Whole 30 First Timer- January 5 Start Date

Thanks for the input @Sarah_MT! I think I will end up doing a whole45. As much as I miss my oatmeal, and would like a glass of wine with the super bowl, I’d like to see if more healing will take place with an extended program.

Hi everyone! I hope you are all doing well. I am still going Whole30 strong. Day 17! NSV's: Sleeping better at night (no night sweats, fewer leg cramps and RLS symptoms). I don't feel sorry for myself when I turn non-compliant foods down, or see others eating what I choose not to. I went out to eat with a girlfriend, and wasn't afraid to ask questions to modify my meal to my needs. I think my jeans are fitting looser. I am still waiting for the magic! I don't exactly wake up fired up and ready to go, I am really tired by 7-8 at night and for my skin to glow. Maybe I should let go of these (and other) expectations of the program! I love the food that I am eating. What I miss the most is my morning oatmeal! I am definitely tired of eggs, veggies and avocado for breakfast. I try to switch it up, and often leftovers from dinner turn into breakfast. But still... I read in The Whole30 book that supplements with off plan ingredients should be out for the Whole30. But, I didn't read this until day 15. I stopped taking the supplements (reluctantly), and may extend my program 15 days. I don't know how much difference it will make, or not, to stop taking the supplements, but I guess if I am eliminating all off-plan ingredients, I need to include the vitamins as well. Hope everyone is having a good weekend! I am enjoying a day off, and the smell of beef roast in the crockpot!

Thank you @Abi Labrador! Last night’s dinner was definitely a desperation dinner with nothing much in the house. I too am watching my mindless eating, especially as I clean up after a meal.

Hi all! I had a long week, but I stayed compliant! Wahoo! I am trying to do some meal planning, and everything is starting to look the same. All the pictures of meat and veggies looks very unappealing! I have entered the food boredom phase for sure! I had no desire to go shopping for dinner tonight, so I rummaged to find something. An apple, almond butter, carrot sticks, compliant ranch dressing and some nuts. Not exactly a picture perfect template meal, but it did the job. I have yet to notice an increase in energy, which was one of my reasons for doing Whole30. I am not about to give up, just a little frustrated is all. I work long hours on my feet, and it is hard to get more than 6 1/2 hours of sleep at night. I know the lack of sleep isn't helping, but that has been the norm for a while now. I would love to hear some NSV's. I haven't seen too many myself, but I may be looking for the big ones and missing the small ones. I was hoping your NSV's would help me see mine as well!

Hi everyone! Day six is almost done. Sundypay and Monday I was feeling very bloated, then remember from the timeline that this could happen with all the veggies. Today I felt back to normal. Yesterday I knew was going to be a long day at work. I started at 3am and finished at 5:30pm. I brought all my food and snacks with me. Despite being really tired, I didn’t have any cravings and wasn’t tempted by the donuts thAt were brought in. Have a good night!

@GayleG I just made the mayo from the link you suggested. In less than two minutes I made mayonnaise! I’ve done it before, but used vegetable oil, and was successful. Thank you for this Whole30 recipe!

Good morning! I actually woke up happy today. It could be Whole30, or getting 9 hours of sleep, or that today is a day off. Whatever it is, I’ll take it, Just trying coconut milk in my coffee for the first time. Not horrible, but still not my sugary soy latte either. I guarantee this won’t leave me with a sugar crash though! It’s funny, I didn’t realize how often I was crashing from what I ate until I started this program. Anyone else experience that? Lots to get prepped today as I will be working the next seven days, with not much time to prep daily. Here’s to you ladies!

Day three is in the books. I haven’t noticed a difference in energy yet, but I have not been going to bed early enough, and 3:30 comes way too fast when I go to bed at 10! But, I haven’t had any coffee since Thursday, and my energy is not any less than normal. So, I guess that’s a plus! My NSV for today is that I don’t have slumps after eating a meal. I feel pretty steady energy wise all day. I did notice I was wanting to nibble today on non-compliant foods, but it wasn’t really a craving. Hope you are are doing well!

Thank you @kirbz! I’m trying to avoid fruit as snacks as I already know fruit doesn’t stick with me very long. I’ve been adding it to lunches, but not as a snack.

Hi everyone! i completed day two with success! My days are long, and despite being full from each meal, I get hungry in between. I’m already sick of hard boiled egg and avocado as a snack. I work in a restaurant, so I’m constantly moving. Any suggestions for easy snacks I could bring to work? Welcome @Sarah_MT! Glad you are over the flu and joining us! On to day three!

Hi everyone! I’m loving reading all the updates! i had a successful day one. I work at a restaurant, and am usually nibble all day long. I was surprised to recognize how many times I would have normally reached for this or that, but today I chose not to. I passed up hot chocolat and candy that was offered to me. Not really looking forward to the sugar hangover that is said to happen for the next couple days, but, “this too shall pass.”
