Haha... well @kirkor's answer is funny but... the truth is:
If the steak is from a properly raised, grass fed, undrugged animal, chow down!
If the steak is from a less than properly raised, grain fed, probably drugged animal, cut it off... fat is where toxins go to hang out...

Had some GREAT food this weekend and I wanted to share a few recipes...
    http://coorec.com/p/savory-smashed-sweet-potatoes-with-lemon-garlic-aioli
    http://www.planksloveandguacamole.com/2015/01/balsamic-and-basil-marinated-steak-with.html
The sauces (lemon garlic aioli and roasted red pepper pesto) really steal the show. And you'll have plenty left over to add to other meals. The aioli and pesto can make any veggies or protein to die for.
Also, I discovered that Trader Joes now has a complaint turkey breast lunch meat option (their organic line which is just turkey, salt, and water). I love doing turkey wraps (turkey with a bit of mayo stuffed with greens and rolled up) for a quick and easy lunch option.
Can't believe we are almost half way there!

have some people in town tonight and we are going to a famous restaurant in my area that specializes in fried chicken sandwiches.  i am going to eat a big whole 30 meal before i go and just sit with them. worried that its going to be awkward for them eating in front of me, but there's not one thing on the menu that could even remotely be compliant.
i am thinking they will understand and not feel bad about eating in front of me. we'll see how it goes.  the struggle is real!!

Sounds like a lot of us are feeling similarly - although, I am not seeing changes yet, I do feel less bloated/gassy, and on Friday I wore jeans to work that did not fit last month. However, my Achilles tendinitis has gotten crazy better - elbow tendinitis is gone.  Yep, gone.   Sleep is better, joint pain seriously improved.  I haven't wavered from the plan, but might have gone off the template when caught between grocery shopping trips.
I am really looking forward to the Tiger Blood, though.  I know I will see great improvements when I can get my butt out the door and go for a walk/jog for half an hour every day.  Right now, I just want to sleep - which, I do not feel guilty about.
Okay, this is the first day I've woken up and not remembered what 'day' it is.  I'm taking that as a good sign

@Sissi Thank you for posting the link to the article on diets. I found it incredibly interesting. It seemed the biggest negatives of W30 were the fact that no scientific studies have been completed on W30 participants, even though the program is based on science (see “It Starts With Food”). The other big negative was the fact that it required effort and planning - seems to me, if you want to see changes then you can’t expect what you’re doing to be easy - easy would be doing what you’ve always done, which is not going to produce results/changes! It also criticized the fact that it was short term - which shows me the writers of the article didnt take the time to understand the point of the program - to create habits and knowledge that will extend beyond the 30 days (especially if done with proper reintroduction).
I could go on forever about the other reviews/analysis of the other diets too...but I will save you from and endless rant!

I find it funny how accurate the day-to-day description in the Whole30 book applies to me. I have been going from exhausted to moody to discouraged to currently having weird dreams about eating all the things! But overall, I feel really good being on the program. Most importantly, I have struggled with a tendonitis in my knee for months. Rest and physiotherapy did not work. The day before I started the Whole30, I could barely run 3 kilometers without being in pain. Last week I did 6 kilometers almost entirely pain free! I can't wait to see how my next run will go  On a different note, have any of you seen this expert assessment of the Whole30, among others? https://health.usnews.com/best-diet At first, I was quite discouraged and confused, given that the expert panel found the Whole30 to be among the worst of the worst in matters of a healthy diet...However, upon further reading, I find the various assessments of the different "diets" inconsistent. I also found there to be a misunderstanding about what the Whole30 is and what it is intended to achieve. In any event and most importantly, I feel really good doing the Whole30

@DoodleJo  guess I worded that wrong...you dont have to tweak so much as make sure you use cacao not cocoa which they do mention in the recipe.
@Garden Gal I love shashuska! I make it as a breakfast dish and bake an egg or two in it. YUM.
I definitely hit the hardest days with a vengeance. Cried over my husband bringing a hoagie ( a kind I dont even like btw) into the house. He did feel bad and didnt eat if in front of me but the lingering smell in the fridge didnt help!
Im proud to say Im still making the right choices and eating the right things. Ive really really struggled with eating 3 meals a day 4-5 hours apart. It just seems something is always coming up sabotaging my carefully laid plans

Happy Day 12 everyone!  I'm at the stage where I Iook at myself in the mirror and think: "Aren't I supposed to be seeing changes by now?" I still look the same!  Tummy is still poofy and I don't feel my clothes are fitting any better... seems like some of you are having the same issues?  Maybe I'm just wishing for results too soon?
I feel good, and my cravings for wine have got a heck of a lot better (yea!)  Having said that, I am avoiding social events because I don't trust myself that much yet. I can handle the office with its bagels, cream cheese, ever-flowing goldfish and bowls full of chocolate... somehow, I can breeze past all that without worrying about caving into temptation as I munch my hardboiled egg and DNX bar.  BUT, if I go to friends and they are all drinking wine/sparkling wine/champagne, I just don't think I can do that yet.  I do have a big social function I've been invited to on January 27 which will be Day 26 for us, and I'm hoping by then I will be strong enough to sip sparkling water and smile.  Hey, maybe I'll even be able to fit into a dress that's too tight for me by then?
It seems my go-to dish is the shepherd's pie.  I think its the fact that in one dish there's meat, potatoes and veggies, and I made a huge batch again 2 days ago, mixing up the veggies so I added onions, carrots, celery, and leeks with the ground beef and regular potatoes on top with a few slices of compliant salami. I never knew that using salami as a topping while baking was so delicious!  It gets all crispy and yummy.  The pie fills you up so much and it's all good stuff.
Thanks to everyone for all these great posts - so wonderful to read the experiences!

Have been having tough days here too, got up to go to the gym this morning and was so exhausted I turned around and went back to bed for another hour! So good to hear how others are pushing through. Feeling very puffy tonight, and really hit the wall at 2pm today. I think potatos aren’t helping me so will cut those out for the rest of the program
thanks all for the inspiration to keep going, I was having serious thoughts tonight about a swan dive off the program and into a bowl of ranch dip and ruffles potato chips! But y’all are right, we’re almost half way and haven’t really given it a chance so I. Will. Stay. Strong!

Day 11 and I am feeling pretty good. I did wake up about 4:30am with a headache, but I think a large part was I needed to drink more water. I took some medicine and drank water and was fine by the time I got up and left for my barre class. I had some of the chili I made the other day for breakfast, with a salad. Very good. I will be making the salmon cakes from the Whole 30 program book for dinner. My husband really likes them. I am going to add some Old Bay as seasoning because- Maryland.
I am so excited to have found grass fed beef at our local chain grocery store at a decent price. I also noticed that Whole Foods has their animal welfare ground beef on sale, so I think I will try that as well. Since my husband and daughter are not eating Whole 30 it will be nice to stretch the ground beef budget since our daughter wants me to make hamburgers this weekend.
We have got this. We are headed towards the half way point!

So I decided last night that I was going to give my mayo another shot and what do you know, another fail!  So I followed these directions you gave me and it worked!!!  I literally jumped up and down with joy and my kids laughed at me, but I don't even care because that's how much I love homemade mayo!  Thank you so much for the tip!!

I'm 55 and have never been a good sleeper.  4 hours straight is a good night, with an hour here and there after 4 am.  Expert power napper, though.
I thought my sleep was improving the first week - slept 10+ hours on Friday night.  But, this week, I'm having a lot of trouble falling asleep (that's not usually a problem) - which makes me agitated, too... making it harder.  And then the cycle starts.  Keeping the faith that it will get better.  Sleep is number 1 reason I'm doing this.
I'm often commenting that time is flying by - this program has definitely slowwwwed it down - so aware of what day it is...
We hit the double digits!  Woo hoo, indeed!

Yes!  I feel the same way.  I can't believe I have made it 1/3 through Whole30!  I am finding solace in a cup of tea at night when my hubby has a wine/beer.  Also, I treated myself at the grocery store yesterday by buying the latest People magazine that features women who have lost more than half of their weight.  It is inspirational!  Even though I don't agree with the Nutri system/optifast methods that many of them used, I still am impressed with their resolve and dedication.  I don't need to loose half my body weight, so it should be easier for me - but it's tough to stick to it.  I just keep telling myself that I am smart and strong for making these changes  - and that the changes are not really a sacrifice, but a smarter way to live.

We are a third of the way there!!!  Woot!  How are you all doing?  I am feeling really well and enjoying the meals.  I make the same main dish to serve for my non whole 30 family and even they are enjoying it (most of the time).  This soup was a hit last night https://www.jaysbakingmecrazy.com/2017/09/04/paleo-whole30-chicken-pot-pie-soup/ and I served it with rolls for the crew and a spinach and strawberry salad with grated beets and almonds and a homemade balsamic vinagrette.  Keep on keeping on guys, we can do this!

Welcome to "the hardest days" y'all. I woke up this morning and really did NOT want the breakfast I had prepped. I've officially hit the breakfast rut. While my breakfasts haven't been the same everyday and I think I do a pretty good job of keeping my menus "fresh", they usually incorporate some combination of sweet potato, egg, brussels sprouts, avocado and meat.  Anyone else experiencing a food rut?

Oh wow.   I had/have something similar, too.  Thought it was just me.   I feel like I have ground beef or steak breath all the time.  Brushing teeth helps, but not always practical (if out running errands).   I found that drinking lime/mint sparkling water helps (that is what is available to me during the day).  I am hoping it doesn't last forever... anyone know?  Thank you.
Just saw an answer above... thank you ShannonM816.

Found buried in the freezer over the weekend, a huge whole salmon!  The Hubs baked it last night with just a little ghee, lemon and salt free seasoning, yumm-o!  Then he tagged me on FB in the salmon patties with tarter sauce, dinner is served!
