    Sounds like a friend of mine...she's basically very overweight, and has had issues with her skin her whole life, had such terrible periods that she had to get a uteral ablation and still had to take iron for her anemia...eczema so bad that she takes 3 showers a day (or maybe because of it? yeah...)...migraines...a bit of a mess, but I love her.
     
    She came up as being pre-diabetic, so she's now on a low-carb grain free diet...but she's still guzzling her diet Cokes! *sigh*

    Yeah, the weight loss discussion is somewhat maddening. I was out with several friends, all of whom are WAY smaller than me. 3 of the 4 are half-Korean, and the other one is an ex-track athlete who has no visible body fat at all. I'm not kidding - she's got broad shoulders, narrow hips, and muscles everywhere. I wear a flirty a-line dress, since I do have hips and I do have some padding (not bad, just saying that I've got a curvier hourglass, size 8 usually in women's pants) so it can cover the fact that I do have some extra. The girls all are talking about how fat they look in their skin tight dresses, how I'm so lucky that I'm so skinny. I was seriously confused...say what? Maybe it's just that, out of all of them, I was the only one with confidence or comfortable in my own body? I looked hot in that dress, and I knew it. Hahaha.
     
    Then again, I realized that even semi-cleaning my diet up has had huge impacts in how my clothes fit in the last two weeks. The shorts that were tight are now fitting how they should. I didn't even go 100% template eating, just cut out all grains and added sugar for two weeks. I eat beans so little that they weren't in my diet anyways. I'd estimate I lost at least an inch or two, but I didn't measure before. Hubby still doesn't believe that I had anything to lose, but I know how things fit before and after.
     
    So whenever people tell me how healthy eating grains is, I just smile and stop listening. I do best without them. Yes, I still get carbs. My sweet potatoes, plaintains, white potatoes (not my favorite, but the market has only had SP that are already rotten! ), and plenty of seasonal fruit like the lovely cherries I had this week. Mmm. More than enough for me!

    One other question - I saw a lot of people talking earlier in the thread about adding honey to second ferments to help the fizz. Honey (at least raw) has antibacterial qualities - wouldn't that harm the kombucha instead of help it be better for you?

    Okay. I've heard of kombucha, but never bothered to try it or anything. I've done water kefir before, but that was because it was so easy - add sugar to water, drop in grains, wait three days, filter, mix juice, wait two days, drink. Easy.
     
    But. BUT. Just found out that a new friend here (I moved to Korea 2-ish months ago) makes her own kombucha. She gave me a little bottle to try. It's lightly fizzy, and kind of lovely. I want to do it. I have NO IDEA what I'm doing, or if it's worth it. Or if it's time consuming. I should've been more careful when I poured some for myself tonight, because the little baby SCOBY ended up in my glass and I've drank it. Oh well, it was lovely mixed with cranberry juice. Who needs wine?
     
    She's offered me a SCOBY and...I want to. But...BUT...I'm scared. I work full time. I live in Korea, where electricity is so expensive that I don't leave my A/C on when I'm out of the house or at night (so far). I don't know how long I'd need to do any of this...and I kind of want one of you expert-sounding people, in your 60 page thread, to reassure me. I have half gallon mason jars and a plastic strainer, but I would have to pick up some grolsch-type jars to put it in.
     
    Aargh. I'm sure it's great for me. I just...am not sure. Any ideas from you all?

    Yeah, my hubby is just starting to understand that I *can* say no to sweets because I 100% really, truly don't want them. In the last week, I've turned down peanut butter M&Ms twice, Brookstone chocolates once, and actually didn't want them. I'm not on a W30, but my body seriously does not want sweets. Part of that might be that I bike to and from work twice a day (20 minutes to, 10 back - hooray hills!) and it's in the upper 70s here. We haven't turned our AC on yet, either, so the sweetest things I want are fruit and/or sparkling juice (100% juice + sparkling water, no added sugars).
     
    Did anyone else get SUPER pissed when watching the Nightline clip on the W30 where the certified dietician or whoever she was said how unhealthy it was to cut out whole food groups like dairy or grains or legumes? I just wanted to scream at her - you don't think it's crazy for someone with lactose intolerance to cut out dairy, do you? So why is it that I can't cut it out to see if I am intolerant? Or to find out that I have Celiac's (which I did thanks to W30)? I will say, they did let Melissa say that you don't miss any nutrition on a W30...but I wish they could've shown the side-by-side day out of ISWF. You know, where it has the whole rundown of how you get MORE nutrition from W30 than the SAD?

    Dear person who joked with my boss about seeing me "walk my bike instead of riding it,"
     
    I am recovering from my 2nd shoulder surgery in a year. I bike everywhere, everyday. That hill I walk my bike up? It SUCKS. It sucks to walk up, let alone push my 39 lb commuter bike up. So please, when you're driving your air-conditioned car up a hill that causes cars to bottom out on, think for a second about me working every day to get one inch closer to the top before having to walk. Or the fact that I arrive at work, every time, disgustingly sweaty and out of breath. My entire bike commute (15-20 minutes) is uphill, and that last segment is straight up. As in leaning forward while walking up it. It's terrifying to bike down, and I've already had to get my brakes inspected because I have to granny brake the whole way down to not die. Oh, and I've worked here for a month and a half.
     
    My coworkers are supportive, they ask if I set any new records to get closer to the top. Even my boss has told me that one day he'll see me bike up the hill, and he is certainly not the nicest guy (a bit of a jerk, really). I downshift 6 times just to make it halfway up the hill. So thanks for not treating me like a person. I'm sorry I don't fit your definition of what I should look like or be able to do. No, wait, I'm not sorry. Screw you!

    Catching up from the last few days ...
    Husband: I'm really not hungry enough for lunch because I haven't done anything today.
    He then ate at least four servings of a check mix thing (loaded with MSG which he knows he can react to) and a bag of Dr. Pepper jelly beans.
    Then there was the lady at the store that was overweight. Her cart had Double Stuffed Oreos and a box of diet cereal.
    Husband: but they cancel each other out!
    A friend of ours, after seeing our cart with a ton of veggies in it: man, she's really strict about your food! I'm going to go get my bachelor food ...
    He then walked to the frozen pizzas while we stocked up on meat.
    Am I the only one whose husband is serious about thinking he will keel over and die without his bread and pasta? He agrees that it worked for me and for his dad, but is convinced he would go into shock and die.

It's how my mother thinks/feels about my now needing to be gluten free (discovered I have Celiac's as a result of my Whole 30). She sends me every pin on pinterest that has to do with being gluten free. What I'd love to say is "gee, thanks, mom, for sending me a pin of someone who used the gluten free version of Bisquick to make chicken and dumplings. Because, you know, we EVER had chicken and dumplings growing up? Or I've EVER mentioned how much I miss chicken and dumplings? You know, I nestled it right there between 'I just made cauliflower fried rice and LOVED IT' and 'I just found the best chicken recipe'..."
     
    Seriously, if she pins me another 'decadent brownie cheesecake' recipe or 'no duh' type of gluten free recipe (if it says in the recipe "just substitute a gluten free flour for the flour" I don't want it!fdsa;ljlkjfdsa)...I might explode.
