    Thanks, Vanessa and hi Rachel! You guyzzzzz! DAY 30! I feel so clear, energized and focused. This is the coolest weekend, because not only is it day 30, but it is my 30 year HS reunion tonight!! AND I'm in the middle of a weekend meditation retreat that started last night. So I meditate all day and then go to the reunion  
    All that said, I am sticking with this longer, b/c I still have a lot of bloating and possible IBS stuff, so I'll try to work with a doc. I've been off eggs for 3 days, but I don't think that makes a diff. The latest idea is to go off Nightshades, since my intuition has always told me something was up with those (acid reflux, joint pain, bloating, etc.) We will see. I'm not jumping into it immediately without more thought, cuz we see how that went with FODMAPS, but it's a tinier list that is so much easier and feels right. I also want to finish the red peppers and tomatoes in my fridge
    How are you guys doing!? Probably back on Monday. BIG HUGS!!! M

    How's everyone doing? Day 23 on my end! Feeling good. Starting with lower FODMAP food choices today. A bit nervous, but we'll see...one day at a time. Not sure how it effects reintro, b/c I may need more time or to do it differently. How's it going with you all?

    Hi, @LizaQ Wow. That is ambitious! The AIP plan has no salt, huh? Well, I agree with you on the trends, but pink and/or grey salt sounds pretty and it will help with flavor. I hear you, though...I've spent so much $ on special ingredients at this point, some of which I won't be able to use now that I'm shifting a bit. The laughing at yourself is so GREAT! Me too...
    I'm being really easy with myself, but focused. I am noticing how much I want to much occasionally and since I'm off nuts now, that is even more of a challenge. I'm just breathing...I haven't felt deprived at all until starting this FODMAP thing. Part of it is that there's so much to remember, whereas W30 is really straightforward. I keep referring to the list...focusing on the green side, but a little yellow for a few days. 
    My biggest fear is that I get to the end of all this and still have bloating...but we'll see...Good luck!

    Hi, all. Picking up an old thread for some FODMAP assistance. I have 10 days to go and I want to cut FODMAPS. I have had a VERY distended belly (assume it's bloating) for years and years and I am now determined to figure out what's going on in there.
    A few quick questions:
    1. I started using this list since Melissa recommended this site and I see that you recommend this list, above. Then I noticed that the official W30 Fodmap shopping list has things on there that are not allowed on either of these. So which do you recommend trusting? or when in doubt cut all? A glaring example is that IBS says you can have some nuts and seeds, but Paleo mom says none. 
    2. What is the best way to reintroduce FODMAPS? In Day by Day, Melissa suggested eliminating them for 1 week, but then what? I would consider extending behind 30 days if necessary, even though I would prefer not to. (or should I just not reintroduce them until way after my 40 days?) i.e., I could just do the regular W30 reintro after 30 days but just stay off FODMAPS. 
    3. Anything else you recommend?
    4. Is there any reason to believe that nightshades could also be causing this? I have acid reflux and joint pain, so I've often considered this, but I'm afraid of going too crazy here...It could be overwhelming.

    I was in a similar situation to you after successfully completing a Whole30 last year. I ended up doing 43 days and never really got "tiger blood," though I did experience a ton of other benefits. 
    I encourage you to reflect honestly on your meals and evaluate whether they match the meal template. When I looked back at the food I had been eating, I noticed that I hadn't been eating a lot of fat. I'm not sure you can really achieve "tiger blood" without adequate fat so I've vowed to change that for my next round (if I can ever manage to do another successful one!). 
    Good luck! Congrats on all those victories, regardless of the lack of "tiger blood!"

    I definitely think I’ve been overdoing the fat in my food - might be the reason I don’t feel my pants getting looser (which is definitely frustrating!) I do feel more energetic today though. I was able to go to spin this morning, go for two walks and still had energy to scoot around with the kids and I don’t feel like collapsing now. I was REALLY hungry today - maybe the extra exercise. I started today to be better about measuring the fat for meals to make sure I wasn’t overdoing it.

    Marj - getting the proportions of protein to fat to carbs can be surprisingly challenging. And frustrating. I still seem to struggle eat enough. 
    Yeah, trying to remind myself that comparison is the thief of joy.

    Hi, Louise! Thanks--you guys are also making this better for me. Really. My friends certainly don't want to hear about this anymore. Haha. No, that's not true--they're supportive, to a point...but they love to hear about the recipes. 
    p.s. Hold onto your hat, Louise--if you liked that...I used to WORK at Sesame Workshop (where they make Sesame Street).

    FYI. I edited my note above. I'm just letting you know that I have a tendency to do that, b/c I remember things to add and rather than do separate notes (like I have here), I just keep going with the one. BUT then I realized you guys might read the notes in your email program and not here. Haha. I might be losing it a bit.

    Sorry for not responding in a while. I'm tired and very bloated, but OK. Could be the snacking. Not sure. I have definitely gone more starching (potatoes/plaintains) and fat vs. protein and veg in the past 4 days, but I'm trying to rebound. It's mostly when I'm tired that I make less nutritious choices. I really feel our collective struggling. Kinda feeling impatient. Wanting to see results. So yeah, as usual, it's emotional for me. Though I finally bought prunes to help w/you know what.
    Rachel: I may pick up the day to day book--looks helpful. Worth it? I've spent so much $ already, but it seems worth it. I'm getting nervous about the reintroduction. Anyone else? I feel like that's where it gets really tough. At least for me.

    You mentioned boredom snacking and that is something you'll want to break. Go take a walk, move around, call a friend, do something else if you're looking for a snack out of boredom. Don't make chips for that purpose.

    Hi, @Marj K. There's a couple of things here that make homemade chips okay, while store bought aren't. 
    First, you're not going to be deep frying chips you make at home.  The article linked above specifically says you can bake, roast, or pan fry them, but not deep fry them. 
    Second, when you make something yourself, from scratch, you're a little more likely to eat them mindfully, rather than just inhaling them all and looking around wondering where the rest of the chips went.
    Finally, even with all the rules in place, you are expected to take some responsibility for your own decisions. If you know that if you roast up some potato chips, you'll eat them all even if you're not hungry, or you'll eat them instead of eating healthy meals, you shouldn't make them.
    As for the plantain chips, I'm not sure exactly what Melissa had in mind when she wrote that, but I suspect that what she meant was something like, those chips are still fried and something you are prone to overeating, and therefore aren't healthy, not to mention that they are taking the place of healthier options if people are indulging in them regularly.

    rusrach it's really ok to rant and vent (and i appreciate your being so open and honest about your experience). great that you have more energy! i'm so sorry it's been so tough in other ways. is there anything we do to support you? just know that you're not alone and try to breath through it. also, track the timeline...it says day 10-11 is "Day 8-9: For the love of Gosling, my pants are TIGHTER." 
    LOL. Yeah, boredom is a big one. Maybe get up and take a walk or go chat with a coworker that you like. I work from home or cafes as a freelancer, so boredom happens if I'm not staying busy or if I get tired.
    Speaking of...What do y'all do for a living? Hobbies? It would be fun to know a bit more about each other. I'm a children's media producer/writer/photographer, but spending a lot of time taking care of my dad and being an AirBnB host right now. Well, in truth, spending a lot of time on W30 right now. I wish I could cook all day and get paid for that! I imagine it's tougher with a F/T job.

    Hello, everyone. I have noticed more roominess too, luluqld. I'm trying not to make this about weight loss, but of course it's part of it. I'm having a tough time resisting weighing myself. Anyone else? 
    I'm on day 11! I seem to be doing well. Still cooking a lot and enjoying it and it feels like less work. But I'm wondering about this whole "no snacking btwn meals" thing that they encourage. It's a bit tricky, but it's helping me to notice what causes me to want to snack. It's usually that I'm tired and want to rest (snacking in front of TV) or just bored and want fun (snacking in front of TV) What about you guys?
    I got very sad yesterday about an ex and instead of turning to food, I sat and meditated. Wow. That surprised me. and I was physically hungry at the time.

    Hi, ladies! Sorry to be off the grid. Was thinking of you yesterday and too tired to write (I also need to get signed in on my phone so I can respond...they need an app and I know they are working on one). 
    I'm on DAY 7!! I was so tired the last few days, so I slept a huge amount last night. 
    luluqld: Watched the The Magic Pill last night--thanks. WOAH! I need to rewatch, since I was dozing towards the end. The autistic kid--wow. I know there are other films like this, but wow. 
    I'm constipated for a few days--probably all the fiber. I was very thirsty (with dry skin) too, but I think that's getting better. For both those reasons, I need to force myself to drink even more water than I usually do. 
    I'm having fun with this. Grateful that I pre-made meals for the few days I was tired. Yesterday I ate out AGAIN (4th time). I'm kind of amazed at how doable that is, but I am in NYC, land of special requests. Haha.

    luluqld happy Anzac day! Re: dreams, I was up at 4am and went back to sleep. In it, I dreamed I had started to eat some cupcake and was pulling it out of my own mouth, trying to get every little crumb and worried that I was going to have to start over. Haha.
    Everyone--I hear you on things tasting so good and the fruit so sweet! Cheers to that. Btw, I think you'll appreciate that I screamed "Fennel" with delight when a restaurant added fennel as a surprise. Haha. Last night made sesame crusted salmon--yumm!     Good job! I'm learning how to eat enough that I don't get hungry for snacks. I think in the past I felt like I 'needed' snacks when I didn't. Often it's more of an emotional craving for me.

    It can be hard to tell the difference between cravings and hunger.I developed the “boiled egg test”: if you’re not sure if you’re hungry, or if you’re only hungry for a really specific food (usual carbs), ask yourself if a boiled egg will hit the spot. If not, you’re probably not really hungry.

    I am giving up coffee because I think the caffeine may be affecting my digestive system - one of the reasons for doing whole30 for me is that I think there are many things that affect my digestive system and I can't figure out what it is - trying to see if coffee is the culprit.  I miss a hot cup of coffee (with lots of milk) though.  I have been trying to drink chamomile tea instead but it's not doing the trick.  This morning I decided to drink decaf English breakfast tea with coconut.  It's a different taste but not bad at all.  This might work well. I'll check out the mayo clips - not sure what I did wrong there...

    Congrats on being a Whole30 social butterfly.  I'm headed to the land of donuts (my office) tomorrow so that will be a test.  My husband was munching on a package of goldfish crackers last night while we were watching tv.  It seemed to take him FOREVER to eat them - I was not impressed.  I think the beginning of the rage stage might be settling in...
