@AndreaF  Thank you for the tip about microwaving veggies halfway first.  I do that with potatoes sometimes and it works great.  Just hadn't thought to do that with other veggies.
@Efeiner Thank you for the shrimp recipe!
I made a quick turkey hash for lunch today.  I do that often, and throw in whatever veggies are left over or on hand.  Sweet potato is great in that. Something about the slight sweetness with the turkey. Highly recommended.
One really cool change now - I'm not thinking about dessert after meals.  Well, usually.  There have been a couple of nights here and there that I have.  But it's really decreasing.  This is a HUGE change.  I would obsess about dessert.  I didn't think I could ever eat dinner without a dessert.  Yikes.  The retraining my brain to new habits is working!
I hope everyone has had a good weekend!

Thanks, Shannon! I remembered I had ginger juice so I had that as a shot with cinnamon. I’ve been doing that morning and night since Friday and feeling much better. As for the cauliflower rice, I guess that’s no different from zucchini noodles. However, I heated the leftover with a few raisins and cinnamon for breakfast and that started my mind running on all the ways I could make that more like oatmeal or even a custard. It’s a slippery slope.
Michele, when time is tight and roasted veggies are on the menu, I start them in the microwave. Especially for sweet potatoes, carrots, parsnips, and other hard vegetables, I’ve found I can cook it halfway in the microwave then let it cool enough to slice and toss in OO. Then I roast at a higher temp to get the browning I want on he outside. Another shortcut is to preheat your pan in the oven so veggies sear when they hit the pan. This is especially good if you use a large cast iron skillet.

@Elizabeth33 and @Hope4Overcomers  I'm really sorry you feel sick.  Did this happen during your previous times?  Is this common?
I've had to make some effort to make sure I'm eating enough.  That's a first.  I exercise quite a bit, and cutting out all grains has presented a challenge in getting enough calories on some days. I definitely did not eat enough yesterday, and I felt it at dinner.  And after dinner.  So I went in search of a snack, which I haven't been doing. That's particularly tricky at night, which used to be ice cream time.  I looked online and found a great suggestion to have banana and almond (or other compliant) butter in a little almond milk, with cinnamon. I also added about 5 macadamias.  It sounds weird, but it was the bomb!  It was a very nice change in textures and combinations. I was getting a little bored with food, so this odd little snack brought in some variety. It could be good for breakfast as well. And I also felt better after eating, with no repercussions (like ice cream ;)
One drawback of looking online for ideas was the slew of "dessert" recipes that popped up.  Supposedly compliant "dessert" recipes.  Of course the ingredients are compliant, but seeing photos of fudgey cookies didn't help me. At all. Some of these things might be just perfect later on, but right now, not so much. I do understand that something like that might help prevent a major fail, but they certainly aren't congruent with the plan, and I have seen the light on the wisdom of just staying away from things like that for right now. I do plan to continue working hard beyond the 30 days - the reintro part is super important to me.  I would also like to get to the point where I can have those treats occasionally.  But all my life up to this point, one treat has turned into multiple daily treats pretty fast.  I don't trust myself.  But I am learning new skills for dealing with this every day.  What an awesome plan this is.
    Have a lovely day!

    Hi everyone!!
Still here welcome to all those who have recently started.
I’m about to start Day 10. It’s been a learning process for sure but I definitely feel like I’ve got the hang of it now. I’ve spent so much time meal prepping and cooking this past week. Hopefully I don’t get burnt out soon because it really has been a lot of work. I know I can do easier meals but for some reason I have decided to go above and beyond...
I am currently avoiding social activities right now as I feel it’s too soon for me. I skipped dinner on Friday with my in-laws and husband since I felt it would be awkward not eating with everyone and let’s be honest the temptation would be too much to handle.
I did end up eating 4 decent sized meals on Friday and only 2 on Saturday and Sunday...not sure if I’ve broken some Whole 30 rule by doing this but I’m going with the “listen to your body” advice.
I do wish I would have added up all my expenses for this from the beginning. I’m rather curious to know how much eating like a king costs. I’ll start calculating it out moving forward.
I hope to see some positive results soon. There isn’t a whole lot going on right now that makes me feel this is all worth it but I’ll stick with it.
    Best of luck to everyone!
    Marina

Ok I think I just achieved day 4-5 (kill all things) on day 2. I just snapped at my employer. Granted she was texting me for information after work and got upset that I wasn't understanding what she wanted. I called her and said sharply "Don't yell at me on the text. A lot can happen with you want what you want in 3 hours". I then said I am hanging up now and now that I understand I will get her the info. It has been a tough 2 weeks with her with misunderstandings, miscommunications, and mistakes...which of course are all my fault (some yes but not all). Anyway I need to put some admiration her way and find something to like about her and what I am doing. Tomorrow is a new day which I am sure I will get an ear full tomorrow.
Today was good at the start even though I didn't sleep well. I had a lot of pain in my arms during the night which could be detox related or the fact that I am doing my PT now. I was sluggish and a little foggy during the day. Things became tougher after work. My energy really hit rock bottom and I wanted to nap. The sugar dragon which I have always called the negotiator was pretty loud on just wait until Sept 1, you might be going to see your niece put it off until after that. ect....ect... Now I really want some skittles and ice cream.
B - home made turkey breakfast sausages, sautéed Kale with bacon, and left over sweet potato mash and tea
Sn - egg veggie muffins, raw carrots, celery, & jicama.
L  - left over breakfast and snack with an apple and some nuts
D - lettuce burger, leftover zucchini & yellow squash, and sweet potato chips (in the nuwave, not bad)
I am now going to get some chamomile tea and watch tv and then go to bed by 8
I hope all is well with the rest of you.

@Mandy612  Thank you!  That was super nice for you to post that.  I'm impressed.  Not sure if I can stay that organized...
In regards to the questions above about meal delivery compliance - Sun Basket offers a lot of choices to select from each week.  So far I have been able to find recipes that are compliant.  They are NOT linked to Whole30 or advertised as being compliant.  I just have to select well.  A big drawback is not having leftovers and therefore spending lots of time in the kitchen. In regards to other options,  I haven't been able to get on board with the popular meal prep system on Sundays/once a week.  I look at some of those plans and think that I would rather not cook with ingredients later in the week (and therefore less than fresh) that I chopped on Sunday.  I guess we all have to find our balance. I'd like to be better organized and not reliant on a meal delivery service, but one step at a time! I will be interested to keep learning from you guys here.

@Michele B. Oh how lucky to subscribe to a meal plan that is Whole 30-ish!
Here's my system for what it is worth.  I made a simple meal planner in the Pages word processing program, with "Breakfast, Lunch Dinner, Activities and Next Day Prep" as my column headings. My current week is below.
I went through the Whole 30 cookbook and filled in about a week's worth of meals. I searched online for some recipes that sounded good to me, and asked my husband's input as well.
If the recipe goes over well, (about 50% of the time), I'll add it into the rotation a week or so later. So far I haven't run out of ideas, but only at this for 12 days (5 days with my husband). I must say I am getting a bit fatigued of spending time in the kitchen and washing dishes.
I use the Pilot Frixion erasable pens which I love as plans change so frequently!
I'm also logging my meals under the Mandy's Whole 30 Log in that forum section if you are interested.

And....back again  I could use some advice.
I subscribe to meal delivery service. Currently Sun Basket, which my family doesn't love, but I can make it work and it mostly fits my needs. I have found that using a delivery service is sometimes less expensive for us because I spend less time at the store, and it saves me TONS of time (but no leftovers!!!)  However, it is more challenging now to select meals that are Whole30 compliant, although Sun Basket is pretty good and the best I've found. Blue Apron is currently advertising Whole30 compliant meals in September, but only for 2 person plans, which I think is crazy, given that lots of busy families utilize meal delivery. Anyway, they also won't allow doubling up on a selection, so they are inflexible with families.
Has anyone found a really streamlined way to plan/prep compliant meals? I've looked at apps...but every time I stray away from meal delivery, I end up spending way more time on planning/shopping/prep. Maybe the answer is to just stick with the delivery ;), but I'm curious what other successes you guys have had. I probably need to develop some new skills/habits with meal planning to break away from delivery and be free to explore other recipes and foods.
    Thank you!

Kudos to @AndreaF and @Mandy612 for your planning strategies! Hats off to you both. My boyfriend and I happily went back to Day 1 today after living in learning from date night yesterday. I bought him the book Day By Day as well, to help him along the journey in understanding the program. He already has and has read the main book. We both remain psyched even though we’re back at “go”!
    You all be encouraged!

@AndreaF I have a similar strategy on planning ahead for my "worth it" moments. I plan on being Whole 30 until Sept 22, re-intro until Oct 2 (where I test out gluten at a lunch with a friend), and then we are going south from Oct 5-9 where I will not be cooking.
After that I'm going to be Whole 30 plus the foods that don't bother me and then full Whole 30 again from Nov 24 to Dec 24.
I think it is great that you are planning ahead!

OK if I join in with your group? I am officially starting on my first Whole 30 August 24th with my husband as that is when his vacation starts, but I have been mostly compliant since Friday.
The headaches for the first 3 days were really something! I am noticing increased productivity, perhaps relating to no more wine with dinner. Anyone else experience this?

Hi, I'm Kira and this is my second attempt at the Whole30. I made it to Day 7 last year and then opted to quit, deciding that it caused more stress than good (though I did quit before I had a chance to really see or feel any personal victories). I'm in a different life situation now and am committed to making it through the 30 days this time around! I'm going to log all of my meals and exercise publicly as an additional mechanism of accountability. I welcome any feedback, comments, or encouragement. I absolutely love this forum as a support network.
    Goals:
I want more energy. I comment that I'm tired almost every single day and that drives me crazy. I wake up tired, I'm tired throughout the day, and I go to bed tired. I just want to be healthy again. I know I'm not and I feel it in every part of my body. I'm "only" 32 and shouldn't feel that way. I want to someday be 70 years old and still be active in the outdoors because my body is still strong and healthy.  I want more stamina to do the activities I love (i.e., hiking, mountain biking, stand-up paddleboarding). I don't want to be a slave to food. I LOVE chocolate and sugar and all things bad and eat them in ridiculous quantities. I want my food freedom to allow me to have a small portion of something I love and feel satisfied, rather than getting out of control so that I eat the whole bag of chocolate or the whole tub of ice cream.  I want to lose weight. I am currently in the "obese" category, though most people would not guess that based on the way I look and the activities I do. I feel it though and know this is not even close to being a good weight for me.

Hi - I started on the 20th as well.  This is my first time and I just found time to get on the website and the forums.  I’m doing OK so far.  I usually eat Whole Foods and lots of home made meals, not prepared foods, so that isn’t a big change.  My big change is no wine, and no chocolate.  I miss both of them, but I haven’t been desperately tempted.  That probably comes later?
I had a little headache today - but not looking forward to tomorrow - the day that the timeline describes as Kill All The Things!  I don’t have room in my life for taking out my problems on other people.  Hopefully I can just be “chill”.
Good luck to everyone for a great Day 4!
