    30 Day Time Machine

Two near slips: 1) yesterday I go to fill up my iced tea before leaving lunch. I must not have been paying attention and accidentally got the sweet tea. GROSS!!! If I hadn't been in the middle of the restaurant I would have spit it on the floor. I then just threw away my cup. No I'm not starting over. I'm not worried about the added sugar of one sip of something I can't stand anyway. 2) had to ride the bike trainer today, which I haven't done in at least a couple of weeks. I keep some Honey Stinger gels by my bike and about popped one in my mouth without even thinking! I moved them over next to my husbands bike so he can eat them. I know at some point I'd just have one out of habit!

    30 Day Time Machine

DAY 7 - One week done! Breakfast: Simply Potatoes Hash browns, 2 eggs, fried up in coconut oil Lunch: Zoe's Kitchen - Shrimp Kabob, Fried Potato Salad, Roasted Veggies all off their Whole 30 approved menu! Dinner: Chicken Satay Salad...not very good. Snacks: A few grapes, a few nuts, some leftover Mexican Twice Baked Potato filling after workout. Exercise: 70 minute bike ride through the fog. See NSV Sleep: STRESS! I knew it was going to be a bad night, so I took an Ativan. I finally feel asleep about 10:30-11 and woke up at 4. Thank you Ativan for filling in the middle gap. See NSV NSV: - My bike ride was not miserable! My rides for some time now have just felt like someone turned up the gravity. I'm not sore, I'm not out of breath. They are just HARD. Yesterdays right felt normal. My fitness is in the toilet but it wasn't the slog that it's been. I can build back up fitness as long as someone keeps the gravity turned down. My bike shoes seem to fit better like my feet aren't as swollen, or they are just getting used to them not that I'm getting to ride outside a little more regularly. My bra felt like it fit. I live in sports bras/workout clothes and with the weight gain my regular bras just haven't felt right and I've been to the point that I refuse to spend any money on bigger clothes. Guess that means at some point I'll just be naked but since I rode outside yesterday early, I took a shower and after the shower I put real clothes on, including a real bra and it didn't just bug all day like it has it has been. Weight loss? Of course from my boobs first but what they hell, I'll take it. I DID NOT DRINK OR STRESS EAT! Yesterday was a doozie! Great day until 2 pm when my husband texts me about a school shooting where we have friends whose kids go there, including my friend that I just had a 2 hour lunch with. I got to be the one to tell her when I texted her to keep me updated and she responded with something else entirely so I knew she didn't know, so I called her and broke the news, but he's okay: I'd forgotten her kid was on a school trip to Yellowstone, thank god! I also texted our good friends who both kids go there including my daughters BFF. I go to pick up my own kid, and she hasn't heard so I haven't told her until after I got confirmation that her best friend and brother are okay. BUT THAT'S NOT ALL! Next I'm looking at my kids phone, a video she made for a class when a SnapChat comes in from a boy she's been talking to. TLDR: he's asking her to send nude pics, tears and drama ensues. Thoughts & Feelings: It's so good not to have crap in the house. I would have done some serious damage to Ben & Jerry last night. I'm a bit worried for today, I feel like I'm on a drama hangover right now and that can be worse than the actual drama. I'm making myself accountable here, then I'm going to go get on the bike trainer to keep up my daily workout goal (and cause it's raining outside), then grocery shopping and MAYBE lunch with some girlfriends...they are going somewhere where the only compliant thing I can probably get is a glass of iced tea. We'll see where my strength reserves are.

    MAYHEM's Whole30 Log (Apr29 - May29 2019)

You're not whiny or pathetic! This is not easy!! If I weren't doing this for health reasons and weight alone, I'd been out days ago. You're doing the right thing. You're reaching out, I'm just sorry the response is not immediate enough. Hopefully you have some support peeps for when it's really dire that you can hit up by phone/text/social media. NSV - you're seeing where the cracks are and you're fixing them. Good job tossing out the Almond Butter! Is fruit the issue? It's worth exploring. NSV - You've made it through the first 2 days of the week with your fiance gone. NSV - You're not drunk NSV - You're snacking but you're staying compliant. YOU'RE DOING GREAT! JUST KEEP GOING!!

Anyone else notice that compliant bacon cooks much quicker?? Almost burned mine in close to half the time my regular stuff would cook in the oven. The fire department may or may not have come when the smoke alarm went off - but I didn't hear it because I was outside. Cute fireman asked when I told him what happened "But is the Bacon okay?"

Great reflections and seeing how you need to adjust! I never ate immediately after working out either. Come in make my protein shake (man I miss those) sit at my desk check my workout in Strava and Training Peaks while sipping on the shake. Take it upstairs get in the shower and drink most of it while getting dressed.

Mayhem, You're doing great!! You're facing challenges and you're meeting them. You're not perfect, but no one is. I'm so glad you didn't give in. You've come to far to start over. I like not having foods are that still triggering your "sugar dragon" in the house and moving the almond butter to maybe out of sight out of mind. If it were me, I'd have a post-it note on it as a reminder as another line of defense. Something like you're wedding date, or some other goal that you're working toward and a "is it worth it". I just had my first Almond Butter from a spoon today, while making the marinade for tonight's dinner and I was unimpressed. That was not very tasty! I love the idea of keeping your hands busy. I've gone through phases of needing to do that. My most recent was playing Mah Jong (or however you spell it) on my phone and trying to get 3 stars for each level so I had to be quick - no time to eat.

    30 Day Time Machine

DAY 6 - 20% of the way there!! Breakfast: Simply Potatoes Hash browns, 2 eggs, fried up in coconut oil Lunch: Tokyo Joe's Nikko Salad w/ Iced Tea for Book Club Dinner: Chicken Avocado Bacon Salad Snacks: A few grapes, a few nuts, Turkey slices and Bell Pepper Strips after workout Exercise: Weight lifting Sleep: I may have cursed myself. I did not sleep great last night. Up several times starting about 1 and wasn't falling back asleep as easily. NSV: - No cravings at all (though I did yell at my husband who was controlling the remote last night and not paying attention to skip the commercials when an ice cream commercial came on), I cleaned the downstairs of my house (energy!), and I went to the gym in the middle of the afternoon (I always say if I don't work out before lunch it's not going to happen). Thoughts & Feelings: I came to the realization as I'm starting to meal plan for my second week that I made it far too complicated on myself the first week. I have always eaten the same thing for breakfast for months at a time and don't need variety. Coming into W30 it was 2 soft boiled eggs and a piece of toast for as long as I can remember. I'm pretty much the same with lunch, most recently it'd been Costco Rotisserie chicken on a Caesar Kit Salad also from Costco, if I didn't go out to eat. So this next week, I'm only planning dinners, which is what I did before. And I have a ton of leftovers from this past week so that can be my lunches. I looked in my recipe binder, where I keep favorites I've made over the years that earned repeat performances and noted a few that I can make work on W30 so I don't need to keep reinventing the wheel. My goal all this week is to get back to daily workouts, because that's who I want to be again and to help hopefully lose some weight during this process. Yesterday -check!

Did you have your protein meal? Not a craving response but at least it's something. Awesome on all your NSV!!!!! except that part where that means keeping this up. I'm torn. Do I want this to work because I'm sick of feeling like this, but if this works then I'm eating like this for more then 30 days. Where'd you get Butternut Squash noodles, or did you make them? I kinda fail at Zoodle making. But I saw at Walmart, yes Walmart, that they have a number of different veggie noodles. Can't remember if Butternut was one or not.

I need to try that! I felt the same about Kombucha - except from New Terrain Brewery. They get it from a place called Trubucha, which I looked at their website is available at a number of breweries, including Green Mountain Brewery which I have yet to check out. It's the only one I'm willing to drink. The rest are out.

Hi! The weight! So frustrating!! I haven't started down the medication route yet so I'm hopeful that this has some impact. I figure Whole 30 was worth a shot. Jump on it and give it a shot too!

She picked and she'd whine wherever we went. She doesn't like MTBing because her parents do. What's annoying is she's really good at it when she stops complaining. I'm with ya! I haven't been told to lose weight, but I know I need to, stupid BMI. My goal for this week is get my workouts regular again. I slipped for a week or so. They won't be as hard as I'm used to but something is better than nothing.

You're nicer than I am. At home my husband and kid eat what I cook, which is W30. I do buy things for them that won't tempt me and I don't care about. My husbands bagels and yogurt mostly.

We were gonna do that but it was a beautiful day here and the weather is supposed to turn crappy again so we opted to not go yet. Is it good? Worth 3 hours!?!?! I was thinking what would I take to snack on when we go, appreciate the suggestion!

    30 Day Time Machine

DAY 5 Breakfast: Simply Potatoes Hash browns, 2 eggs, fried up in coconut oil Lunch: Whole 30 Protein Salad - chicken, grapes, celery, almonds, mayo and a little curry powder for flavor Dinner: Winner! Winner! Chicken Dinner! I finally got a recipe that the family got excited about! Hawaiian Chicken Burgers out of cookbook I got from the library. The recipe I found online here. Snacks: A few grapes, a few nuts, a cup of blueberries. Exercise: 12 mile bike ride with the family in Waterton canyon. Kid complained through most of it. Can't win everyday I guess. Sleep: I was exhausted and was falling asleep on the couch at 8 so I just went up to bed. I only had a few chapters left in my book and finished it while tossing and turning, I had restless legs bad. I thought of taking something but didn't because I'm trying to keep this all clear as to what's changes in my diet and what's something else. But I ended up falling asleep at 9 and slept through till 4. Think I got up once to go to the bathroom. Laid back in bed sleeping on and off until 5:30. I am a big fan of whatever is going on that's allowing me to sleep. NSV: - No real cravings. Energy a bit down, but I did feel like I could keep going on that bike ride at the top where it dirt road turns to steep and to single track, or at least I would have been willing to try. Sleep!!! Thoughts & Feelings: I and my family all survived "Kill All Things" and "Eat All Things" weekend, though the kid just barely with her whining on the bike ride. Still no progress on the hair loss. I washed my hair this morning (I try not to very often given how much hair I lose each time) and yea, still not good. And don't feel like I've lost any weight, definitely curious though. I'm not secure enough in feeling like the W30 is life changing enough without the weight loss though to try it because I know if I got on the scale and it hadn't moved (or god forbid went up!) it would all be a downward spiral from there. My board meeting tonight got canceled and so I could go climbing tonight - fingers crossed that I have the energy to do so.

    30 Day Time Machine

DAY 4 Breakfast: Simply Potatoes Hash browns, 2 eggs, fried up in coconut oil Lunch: Tokyo Joes Nikko Salad Dinner: Pomegranate BBQ Brisket, with coleslaw....recipe from the slow cooker W30 book. Snacks: A few grapes, a few nuts, a cashew butter after workout, a Kombucha afternoon brewery date with my husband. Apple after dinner. Exercise: 200 stair incline hike and playing on the playground with my 14 year old daughter. That's winning right there folks! Sleep: Great! Slept from 9:30-4:30. I laid around for maybe another hour and then woke up at 6:45! NSV: - No real cravings. Energy is still up, but I'm still not where I was or where I'd like to be. Sleep!!! Suggested going out to a brewery with my husband, got a Kombucha, felt like a real human and not a W30 human. Thoughts & Feelings: Did not feel like "Kill All Things" and "Eat All Things", so that was good. I'm great with not having any of the ill-effects of #30 but I really hope I don't skip the good stuff too, like Tiger Blood. I really want Tiger Blood! Loving the sleep thing. Hope it keeps up. I've had insomnia for the past 6 years and I've tried a number of things over the years an it'll work for a week or two and then I'm back to being up in the middle of the night again, so trying not to get my hopes up too high.

    Starting May 1!

Starting Day 5 here and doing well. It's time consuming and a PITA but physically I'm sleeping better and have more energy (still need that level to rise though) but haven't experience really any withdrawal/detox so I've been pleasantly surprised by that. Good luck tomorrow!

    MAYHEM's Whole30 Log (Apr29 - May29 2019)

I can COMPLETELY relate! I relate to this as well, My husband travels quite a bit for work and when it's just my daughter and I I slack off and it's kinda anything goes. I've worked lately at being better and bought some "cooking for two" cookbooks which are no help now, lol. I would say make a plan is a great idea. There's some recipes I've seen that are like make this big protein and use it for several different meals. I would say don't plan on cooking much, because when it's just for you it kinda feels like "what's the point", at least that's how I feel. Maybe even simple stuff like compliant turkey sandwich meat in a lettuce wrap, rotisserie chicken on a salad with compliant dressing. And I'd say make a commit me to me and/or your supportive friends/fiance that you can make it through the week. Reward? A brewery with Kombucha! BTW, my husband and I went out yesterday afternoon after his race to the brewery I talked about I got my Kombucha, he had a beer. It was packed in there, 2 food trucks, beautiful day and I felt like a was a normal person doing a normal thing....which I have not for the past 4 days.
