Well, made my little trip this past weekend. TSA, for whatever reason saw fit to give me pre-screening clearance for both flights (round-trip).  SO, didn't even have to take off my coat or shoes and the Chia Squeeze packets made it through with no problem !   I put my coconut milk into 3 little bottles and used them for morning coffee. Biggest challenge was that my flight was delayed on the way home and I had to kill time for 3 hours in an airport restaurant in Seattle with EVERYONE drinking great beer--except me !  Alaska Airlines is awesome, gave each of the affected passengers $24 worth of meal vouchers for the wait.  I had a Cobb salad with w/ oil/vinegar on the side and Perrier with a slice of lime. My coconut chips and raw almonds helped a lot for in-flight snacks.  I don't think I've ever flown without wine or cocktails before, so NSV I guess!

Can I join you all?  I officially started yesterday, 10/5, so I'm a couple of days behind.  I was dropping things around the edge of my diet and kept saying tomorrow, tomorrow, tomorrow, when Tues. I poured a glass of wine and my DH said "I thought you were starting that paleo, no alcohol thing again."  I did say it, didn't think he was listening, but glad he called me out, so today is day 2.

This is my 3rd whole 30 and it will be a whole 40 at least because I have a half marathon coming up and that was why I wanted to clean up my eating anyway so I go at least until then.  I've done several little 7-14 day stretches and ate pretty close to whole 30 even before doing the first one.  Really, my two big vices are cheese and wine (in that order)  I do have a sweet tooth too and I'll be happy to have my sugar dragon back under control.

Hmmm, I posted this morning, but must not have had enough coffee to realize I didn't hit submit.  LOL

I really really wanted a glass of wine last night.  The cat was nice enough to crawl up in my lap and go to sleep so at that point I told myself I couldn't get up.  (Thanks kitty for the assist!)  I did have a bowl of strawberries from my local farmer's market before the kitty curled up in my lap, not sure that feeding the sugar demon helps with the wine demon but they did taste good and the wine is a much bigger temptation for me than fruit!

I had a brunch thing this morning with food provided by others.  I knew there would be gluten free options because one of the ladies bringing food has a daughter with celiac so there are no gluten containing foods in her house so there is no danger of cross contamination.  She, of course, brought baked sweets, so...
I planned ahead though and sipped on a nice cup of left over pumpkin soup while I was getting ready to go so I wasn't the least bit hungry.  I had a nice glass of water and mingled and because I never sat down I didn't feel weird about not eating.  One person asked and I just told her I had a late breakfast of left over soup and I was still full and that was that.  I actually never even walked to the table with the food that seemed to be the best way to avoid temptation but from other people's plates there were raw veggies and fruit so that would have at least been an option.
@becs staying compliant with the whole 30 is tough with travel.  I know there are people that manage but it would be challenging, hope it works out so you don't need to figure it out.

@frogtox I'm a solid middle of the pack runner.  I'm not winning any races and only run for me.  I've only been running a couple of years and this will be my first anything over a 10k.  I'm really excited about my upcoming race!  And, because its my first half as long as I finish its a PR!   Win!
@Angelina_B are you drinking enough water too?  I get a little light headed if I start to get dehydrated.  Just a thought.

I don't feel like I'm doing much extra food prep but we already had hb eggs in the fridge, I made mayo on a whim, & I have quite a bit of a compliant soup in the freezer.  I was also lazy & bought pre chopped veggies & my backyard garden is still generously providing salad veggies & other yummy things.  I'm also a sahm so I have the luxury of pulling stuff out & simmering away while doing other fun things like laundry.
I'm also sticking with really simple meals/snacks at the moment.

So today I grabbed the wrong container and ended up with breakfast for lunch. I'm a little disappointed but I'm also proud of myself for asking the food truck vendor what oil he uses to smoke his tri tip before caving in on buying a splurge meal. Ended up having my second breakfast for the day and asked a coworker to bring me back some guacamole for some added fat.

Becs- speaking from past experience, be mindful with your wine reintro.  My first w30 was followed by a girls night out & I was feeling the effects much more quickly than before my w30!

Madgab- sounds like a great dinner plan!  You should have more energy tomorrow, but you may be a bit irritable even though you feel better.

Thanks for the visual, Kirkor!  I try hard to run like the first guy, and still run like the second guy in many ways, I'm sure.

That said, I want to share a personal milestone.  Today, for the first time, I ran THE WHOLE WAY.  Now, this was only 2.75 miles.  But even when I was a fat kid in high school and had to run the mile, I ended up walking a lot of it.  I have never in my life considered that I might run continuously for more than 30 minutes, which is what I did.  32 minutes, 5 seconds, to be exact.

I had set out to do my usual 2.15 morning miles, which I have been doing for much of the last two months as a "short" day.  After I ran that without a break to walk -- and it surprised the heck out of me that I did! -- I still had ten minutes left in my half hour.  So I went ahead and continued running around our "block."   That's another 0.6 miles, and there you have it!  32 minutes, 2.75 miles, and I feel so completely awesome that I want to go out and run some more.

And in fact, when I got home, I felt as though I could have run more.  My feet are a little sore, yes, and the other spots that tend to get tired first were just starting to let me know that they were tired, but I think I could have gone another mile.

    Woohoo!

ThyPeace, going to be totally chipper for the rest of the day.

Why is it that NOT DRINKING is such a huge deal... and by NOT DRINKING.. i mean not drinking an alcoholic beverage... who gives a @#!*** what is in my glass... (what are you drinking?... oh seltzer water... WHAT?... WHY???... oh i am just going a month without alcohol... a program i am doing... WHY??  that is CRAZY... just don't eat junk food... just exercise more... just do this just do that... blah blah blah...)  i walked around last night at a charity event wine tasting with a small amount of wine in my glass just to avoid the judgment and the questions... and i am not 17... i am over 50... after the event everyone was going out for pizza... i just went home to avoid a disaster..... (come on... just one won't hurt... seriously one piece of pizza isn't going to kill you... don't be so strict... you're not chubby... you look great why on this crazy diet... ITS NOT A DIET!!!!!)... so i am pledging to myself to never ask someone again... what are you drinking?... and possibly it is easier to just be a recluse. ... thank you for letting me vent... have a good day.

PS.. in my friends' defense.. they just want me to be happy and i think they feel like if i am not enjoying all life has to offer or i am restricting what i can and can't do/eat/drink that i must be unhappy and thinking i need improvement and they want to assure me that i am fine and should just relax and enjoy good food, good wine, good friends.. good weekends!... but it's day 12 for me and i am just now starting to feel really good... rested.. didn't realize how bloated i was... my head feels clear on a saturday morning!  yeah!!.... now THAT's the way to enjoy a weekend

He is partly still "in" whole30, day 31 he got the flue, so he has started adding food later. has tried bread and pasta - worked fine for him and beer (another day).
But... he has started cooking more and he has stared doing shopping by himself :)) I appreciate both a lot. Plus he is doing his breakfast, since Day 31 I have started to eat my regular breakfasts (mostly different oatmeals).
What I was missing most was going out with friends, so only two weeks until that

Zuzka, as a 4-year, 5-time Whole30 veteran with a spouse who refuses to give it a shot (he has a ton of food aversion issues), I just want to say you are AMAZING for coming here to get our perspective to help support your partner! And it's OK if you aren't ready to try it yourself yet. Your partner is so lucky to have you!
One of the most helpful things you can do is dishes! That's how my partner helps me. He eats mostly processed stuff that requires very few dishes to prepare, so the dirty dishes are always 90% caused by me, so I see the occasional load of dishes being done as extremely helpful. If you're not already, cook your own non-Whole30 foods. If your partner has a weakness food that you enjoy, for example chocolate, hide yours somewhere where partner won't know where it is and be tempted. Or better yet, give it up yourself for the 30 days.

He's a great guy - he knows his meat, and he knows how to cook it too.... Once you have a good relationship with your butcher you know he's always gonna give you the best cuts of meat. I trust him, I know the meat is locally sourced, and no way would I even entertain the thought of buying from a supermarket! Plus he has a cracking sense of humour

Maybe me and Melissa Joulwan need to make a video called "Sh*t Whole30 girls say."

Hi, I just skimmed everyone's posts, but I'm joining in too.

This will be my 3rd complete whole30 in 4 years.  The other 2 were in January and were a great post-holiday reset.  My family actually refers to this as "Mom's January Diet."  This isn't hugely different from the way we normally eat, the main differences are dropping yummy cheese, cream, butter and wine.  We just had our last summer house guests and this is a good time for another reset here.

I have started and not finished a couple of w30's since the last one mainly because I let stress and our busy schedule get in the way.
I have 2 boys and they have really full sports schedules year round in addition to all of the school stuff, the oldest is now on the opposite coast and I miss watching him play, streaming video and travel have to do in the meantime.  (and like someone else mentioned, I'm the team mom for both our school team and the off season team here and that can get a little stressful at times)
Our summer schedule is winding down and then there is one week and the high school season begins.

    My main goals this time
    -better sleep
-better stress management-I have a tendency to be an emotional eater and stress can push me over the top with sweets.

mulay's is the best! and they have great customer service - i was unable to find them at any of my local whole foods, so i contacted customer service and they called all the whole foods in my neighborhood, told me where i could find them, and then put me in contact with the manager at the location so i could let him know which flavors where my favorite to keep in stock.
