Starting July 8th and Preparing for All the Suck

Day 25 here...I'm so sick of salad! LOL the salad I want is a coffee salad with half and half dressing and ice cube croutons!!! I did try to switch things up a bit and made some BBQ sauce and pork ribs. That's helped the food boredom a bit. The meal prepping is killing me though...I just can't get ahead of things, and I feel like the energy I've gained from eating clean is all used up by making FOOD! Ah well. Just a few more days to go..we can do it!

You can do it, @KaraS! Since my flub with the pretzels last week, I'm thinking I'll be going beyond 30 days too (since I'm technically starting over). So I'll be here to stick it out with you! I'm one to reach for the snap peas too...crunchy and satisfying But I'm also snacking less, which is good. I do miss my rice and soy sauce, though!

@ShannonM816 Oh, definitely won't Eat All The Things! I think I will take your advice and see how I feel on Day 30. If I can do another two weeks without much trouble, I'll go for it. Having completed the first two weeks, I feel like some of the hard stuff is over and it's just an endurance thing at this point. @kristilarson Don't worry, I've only been laughing at myself this whole time! Ive had the Craving Dreams too...the worst was last week after I foraged some wild raspberries and couldn't make my traditional summer pie with them!

Ohhhhhhhh, guyyyyyyys...I screwed up! I had an appointment to donate blood today--no problem. Brought an apple and cucumber to avoid the post-donation juice and cookies. Was all proud of myself for thinking ahead. Afterwards the volunteers offered a box of snacks that had raisins, pretzels, cheese crackers, Oreos, etc. Again, no problem. I was prepared--or so I thought. I selected the pretzels and ate them without even thinking about it!! I took the raisins, too...and even looked at the ingredients on BOTH packages! ("Neither had added sugar, so I thought hey these are great!") I even ate the apple I brought! It didn't hit me until I WAS HALFWAY BACK HOME that I had just eaten a packet of pretzels!!! You guys, I feel so silly!! LOL I'm weighing out whether or not to start over or just finish out the rest of the Whole30 as-is. I'm definitely not giving up, just a matter of whether tomorrow is Day 1 or Day 16! Thoughts, anyone? What would you do?

As someone just a few days ahead of the bunch, let me say YES, prepare for some hard cravings on Day 10!! I had a hard day just in general, and not being able to escape into chocolate or baked goods or even just a bowl of rice (I'm Asian, it's definitely comfort food!) made me even grumpier than I had been! I sorta caved and ate a small handful of blueberries as soon as I got home out of spite (and hunger, because it was 7:30 and I hadn't had dinner yet). I know it was against the spirit of the program but at least it was a Good Food...? LOL I say this not to scare anyone but to encourage you to keep up the good fight! We're gonna make it! P.S. I'm putting my meal/shopping template into a modifiable document in case anyone wants to use it. I hope to finish it tomorrow when I have some free time.

The sun is shining this Saturday morning and helping me feel excited to prepare for Week 2! We can do this, folks!

Whoo buddy, I seem to be on the timeline right now! I'm on Day 7, and last night I got home from work around 6pm...went straight to bed and slept til 11pm. Woke up but was still waaaay out of it...I dragged myself to the kitchen to put stuff in the instant pot so I'd have lunch the next day and promptly went back to bed. Woke up at 7:30am and could have gone straight back to bed if I didn't have to work!! The timeline says that my body is learning to use fat and protein as energy rather than the quick burning stuff I used to fuel with. Just gotta keep sticking it out!

Day 4 for me...and the fact that I am a "grazer" is very much apparent! This morning and at lunch I fueled up better, and I could definitely tell the difference between yesterday's snack cravings (hunger from not having enough bulk in each meal) and today's snack cravings (hormones and work methods). I realized that at work, I often snack not because I'm hungry, but because my mind is bored, I'm stalling on an email/task I don't want to do, or my hands need something to keep busy. It's strange how the mind/body work! Tomorrow is the weekly summer cookout at my workplace, which I always look forward to! I already planned ahead to bring portabella mushroom caps and guacamole to accompany my "hamburger no bun this week" order, not to mention some sweet potato & kale hash and cucumber water to replace the rest of the combo meal! Keep up the great work everyone!

Hope everyone is doing well on their first day! I was refilling my weekly pill case last night and realized that most of my supplements are soy based or contain some form of dextrose. Wild! And I don't even take those "adult gummy" vitamins. I read about it in the books but didn't pay much attention til last night. I do have one prescription I can't avoid for right now, but the rest are supplements that hopefully I won't need anymore (iron, garlic for cholesterol, etc), although I might have to go back to the Vitamin D in the winter since I live in the northeastern US. Check your labels on even the little things!

I started on the 6th...can I join you guys with just a few days difference? :) I haven't even done my big grocery run yet! (Planning to go today though! It was just the timing.) I have a few reasons for doing Whole30. Primarily I struggle with low energy I could get 10 hours of sleep and still feel tired. I know sleep issues can be complex so I've addressed it in a few other ways, but I want to see how my diet might also be playing a role. Also, I'm only 31 but I'm on the border of high cholesterol. I'm told it's genetic, but I want to see if I can lower it and learn how to manage it now without resorting to statins later in life. I have a yearly blood test and checkup coming later in August so I'm hoping the results are good! Usually I'm a pretty independent person and I like to do solo challenges, but for something like this I'm glad there's a community available for support! Looking forward to journeying with all of you! -Angela
