    Heavy Cream Substitute

    Hi Everybody, I am attending a Paleo potluck this weekend. I have an amazing sweet potato gratin recipe that I really want to bring the issue is it is not paleo. I am hoping there is a way I can make it whole30/paleo approved. The recipe calls for heavy cream. Has anyone had any luck with substitute for heavy cream? I am thinking about trying coconut milk. Any thoughts would be appriciated. Thank you!

    this probably is not the right section for this question, but here it goes. disclaimer: i am not currently on a whole 30, starting my 2nd round in july, first one went great! second, i know butter is not allowed during whole 30. so i was looking around whole foods and i found organic valley pastured butter. it said something like limited release, may through september. now it didnt specically say grass-fed like the kerrygold. which is the better option? what is the difference between pastured and grass fed. i've done a little research but i am still confused. ps - sorry about the lack of caps!

    arnica for joint pain? any thoughts

    Thanks! Would you recommend the gel/cream over a pill? When it was originally suggested to me I believe they told me it was a pill.
  5. I broke my elbow (bottom of the humerus) a year ago and have some arthritis from the break and surgery. A friend recommended arnica (sold at whole foods). Has anyone tried this? Any thoughts or recommendations? I was taking osteo Bi-flex but decided to forgo that during my whole 30. I am also going to start taking curcumin (turmeric) per the recommendation on the supplements page. I'd appriciate any insight!

    raw vegtables? good or bad?

    Hi Betsy, Of course. I use the following vegatables, chop them into small pieces, and toss with grilled chicken, hard boiled egg and homemade balsamic vinegrette. Red Cabbage Broccoli Red Pepper Zucchini Parlsey I use equal amounts red cabbage and broccoli, add as many or as little peppers, parsley and zuchini as you want. Sometimes I mix up the vegtables, but above is my favorite combo. I marniade the chicken in dijon mustard, whole grain mustard, rosemary and olive oil (I have to buy new mustard though that is Whole 30 approved). For the vinegrette I use equal parts extra virgin oil olive and balsamic vinegar with salt and pepper and dijon mustard. whisk and pour. I usually eat 2-4 cups of vegtables with a few ounces chicken, a hard boiled egg, and the vinegrette. Very tasty!

  8. I think I read in the book the raw vegtables were discouraged? I can't seem to find it again. I make a cabbage salad that I love with raw chopped vegtables, grilled chicken, and homemade balsamic vinegrette, and i'm wondering if this can still be considered whole 30 approved. I really enjoy it and it makes it easy to consume 4-6 cups of vegtables a day (raw broccoli, red pepper, red cabbage, parsley).

    Thanks Tom! Is the caramel color the only ingredient that I should worry about? Some of the other ingredients sounded a little crazy.

    Today is day 1 of my first whole 30. I am excited and thought I was prepared until I came across the questions about supplements. I am wondering about the following supplements and subsequent ingredients: PurePharma Fish Oil - Ingredients: Fish Oil Concentrate (anchovy and sardine oil), gelatin, glycerin, water, caramel color, natural lemon oil, mixed tocopherols. PurePharma Vitamin D - Ingredients: Olive Oil, gelatin, glycerol, water, caramel color, cholecalciferol. Lurong Living Essential - Ingredients: Microcrystalline Cellulose, Vegatable Cellulose (capsule). Oseto Bi-Flex - Ingredients: Crospovidone. Contains <2% of: caramel color, cellulose (Plant origin), cellulose coating, silica, titanium dioxide color, vegtable magnesium stearate Contains Shellfish (shrimp, crab, lobster, crayfish) ingredients.
