It's funny. I see all these comments that fruits and vegs are "cheaper at the farmers market than in the store". Not here. And I've been to Farmers markets where they sell bananas. I have yet to see a banana "locally grown" in the Chicago area.

Sometimes, the FB page makes us a little crazy, too  But, when you have a community of over 50K people, there are bound to be folks who are passionate about every topic we post.

There is a place in my city that is very similar (called Ekko de Brasil), and while we were on our first whole30 we called them to ask about their meats (as we had been before and loved it). They were very friendly and helpful. Broken down, here is what they said:

-Chicken breast wrapped in bacon: The bacon has sugar, but they were willing to cook just chicken breast and omit the bacon as a special request.
-Chicken Drumstick: Marinated in beer. Not compliant.
    -Parmesan Pork: Not compliant (cheese)
    -Sausage: Had sugar. Not compliant
-Lamb: Marinated in wine. Not compliant.
-Beef (striploin, ribeye, brazilian, prime rib, garlic beef): All compliant. Only seasoning used was salt.

As for their buffet portion, they had olive oil and balsamic that was compliant as a salad dressing. Veggies & lettuce were also obviously compliant, but that was about all from the buffet potion that was good.

So if Texas de Brasil is similar, it may be a viable option. You would have to call and ask in advance though.

Me to my husband: "I want to save some money this month so instead of grassfed meat and organic produce I'm just gonna get regular meat and veggies"
    Him: "I don't think that's a good idea"
    Me: "why not?"
Him: "we don't have health insurance"
    Good answer.

I forgot to mention that it's suggested by some that you try to get a few people to do meat buys with you. People in your area buy from a local farmer and split the animal so you don't have to buy a huge freezer to store the meats.

Come to think of it, when I make a list and send my husband to do the shopping he spends about half of what I normally spend. I always pick up a bunch of little "treats" like black garlic and $15 boxes of tea that I never drink.

I have a very small fridge freezer provided by the landlord so I can't change it. I bought a table top freezer which, don't laugh, lives in my bedroom. In it, I keep meats that I've cooked and frozen in individual portions. The trouble is, its so crammed full that my new menu planning is open the freezer and whatever falls out first is the meal

Can anyone explain to me why my co-workers think I don't eat real food? I don't bring these comments on. They come to me. Today I was digging around in my drawer of food in the fridge and one of my bosses came by and said "Is that whole drawer full of your food?".
    Me: "yes it is".
Him: "what have you got in there?"
Me: Ground Beef & Cabbage, homemade mayo, an avocado, homemade soup, some vegetable salad...."
Him: "don't you have anything EDIBLE in there??!"
    sigh...

I had to make an emergency pit stop at a different grocery store and the only non-CAFO meat I could find was grass-fed beef in 1lb pre-wrapped packages. Obviously with huge health claims and stuff all over them.
Me: walks up to the checkout counter with my beef and other stuff.
Bagger: *picks up beef package* So what do normal cows eat?
...I can't believe factory farming is now "normal" and FEEDING A COW GRASS is something weird and remarkable.
