    CALLING ALL JANUARY 1ST WHOLE30ERS!

So today marks day 30 of my Whole 30 although I have decided I will continue as per usual with no particular deadline to finish but rather if and when I feel like something outside of the plan. My reasons for this is I feel I have only just begun to hit my stride. I am enjoying my increased energy and productivity levels and my mental alertness and also, I have no particular cravings for anything off the plan as yet. I'm also still enjoying and exploring my behavioural patterns and thought processes around my relationship to certain foods and alcohol and I like the feeling of control I now feel I have over that. As it stands, I am currently on another work trip and am now in my hotel room with food cooked this morning and brought along and, a kombucha (as opposed to ordering a dodgy room service and having a beer or a glass of wine ) but yet I don't feel I am missing out on anything. I'm not sure if it is a state of intense mindfulness or what but I do feel just far more 'connected' than I have for a long time and am quite keen to ride that boat a bit longer. For those that have had a tough time of it or restarted their W30 I hope you continue to acknowledge your efforts and learning and remember as much as there is a template and plan it is also your own personal journey. Hopefully that includes self acceptance and acknowledgement of all your victories as well as the trials and tough times because ultimately we are each individually the only ones that can make sense of what we do and why. Maybe that's that intense mindfulness I was talking about, just being attuned to our inner voices and getting along better with them? Anyhow, happy healthy eating to all and well done to all of us, no matter where we are in our W30 journey.

cocojoe, I agree with everything heatherdoT said. This is an individual journey and the lessons learned along the way I think are probably worth more than the final outcomes anyway because they are the pieces to the puzzle for behavioural change. In fact, your story had me thinking more about how insidious the commercial food industry is that even the most basic of ingredients or products are bumped out with additives. I also think you are right in stating you have completed a successful Whole 30-pat yourself on the back for the effort.

@ Praxisproject, it is Kombucha Max [http://kombuchamax.com.au]. I think they sell all over Australia-they are fantastic and you can order directly from them and they deliver. I bought a box this afternoon to take home of 500ml bottles (much better value then the usual 350ml bottles you get), great flavours too (the coconut one is delicious!) but it worked out at $2.50 a bottle. Small factory set up, we met the owners they were lovely. I think he is an ex-boxer who suffered arthritic type inflammation and got into kombucha and it went from there. I think they have another good deal of 48 bottles of the 350ml bottles and they work out at $1.75 a bottle. They also make kombucha vinegar which is delicious as well (we bought about 15 bottles of that too-so stocked up at the moment! ) Great product , lovely people, Australian made and owned-I'm very happy to support them.

Hi all, Long time no check in for me, we've been on holiday (still here for the next few days) and been enjoying the sun and the local beaches. So am on day 24 now and still going along well. It has been a bit tougher being on holiday particularly when we've been taking the kids out for the day and I haven't been quite as prepared with food as I could have been so there have been some days when I've been a bit hungry and had to wait to get home to eat. The good things about this holiday- there is a fantastic local [compliant] kombucha factory in the town we are staying in where we've been able to buy kombucha in bulk, there is loads of fresh seafood around (fishing town) so have always kept a kilo or so of fresh cooked prawns in the fridge and had fresh fish almost daily, we took the kids to an animal farm the other day and on the way back I noticed a macadamia nut farm pulled in and bought some yummy [compliant] garlic macadamias, chilli macadamias and some salted ones as well as some gorgeous macadamia nut oil, I've eaten out and had plain grilled fish and with plain salad and felt pretty satisfied with that and, I managed to source some of those paleo [compliant] Cleavers sausages that I saw Praxis Project mention in a post so they have been a real treat too. Some friends came up and are staying for the next few days (and these are people I have enjoyed more than a few glasses of bubbles with over the years )-of course they brought up champagne but I didn't miss it at all and still managed to enjoy my time with them with a Pellegrino and squeeze of lime despite them all drinking. My initial reasons for my W30 was just to tweak some poor lifestyle choices I had moved into and I have definitely become a lot more conscious and aware of that, I didn't really need to lose weight although had noticed a bit of a desk belly and bum developing for me from prolonged sitting and the tummy thing is really no longer an issues, the weight has fallen off me if the hang of my clothes is anything to go by and I also have to say I do think tiger blood is having a bit of a whirl through my veins. I have been going to bed fairly late and am waking up at my normal time of 5ish without any hint of tiredness or lack of energy and most mornings have been going for a long walk or a beach run. I feel amazing, in fact the only thing irritating me at all is slight sunburn because I didn't apply enough sun protection cream today when we went for our morning swim-very silly of me! So anyway, just a brief update, am thinking I may well try to extend to 45 days though, I really want to see how long I can sustain this energy level for. Hope everyone is doing well and learning lots about their bodies and health, it has been such a great journey to be on. Take care all!

    CALLING ALL JANUARY 1ST WHOLE30ERS!

Hi team, I've been absent for a while, work and real life has been hectic this week but still going strong. Day 16 starting today and am heading up the coast with the family to hang out at the beach for a week or so so hopefully less work/life stress . There have been a few occasions when I've been so busy the vegetables on my plate have just ended up being salad greens, avocado, tomato and sauerkraut but hey, not beating myself up about it, have still stuck to plan and the reality is real life is real life and sometimes that is just how we live. Have notice HUGE differences in how I look and feel though. My fitness and training is super strong (well compared to what it was) been doing a lot of HIIT sprints which normally kill me, well, they still kill me but I can tackle them a bit better than I was and, everything (clothes wise) feels looser on me. Skin and eyes are really clear and my thoughts and thinking is clear (which was a bonus because I needed to be on my toes this week with some really complex work stuff). All up going great. Will have to catch up on the thread once we reach our holiday house but just wanted to say most of us are HALF WAY and even those who have had to restart would have learned heaps along the way so it is all worthwhile. Take care all!

I like wrapping things in nori sheets, like chicken thighs, cucumbers, avocados basically anything or any mix you might throw in a sushi roll but sans rice. Frittata's are also a favourite for me, omelette rolls, lettuce cups/wraps those sorts of things.

Day 12 down for me, missed checking in yesterday, real life weighed in. The temperature was really hot here yesterday and today (although it is waning somewhat now) and that just wiped my appetite I have to say. Stayed compliant but went cold food/salads until the evening meal when I threw a steak on the barbecue and did some yummy veggies on there too (too hot to cook inside). I have to say when I heard the news of David Bowie's death yesterday it was probably the biggest impulse I have had to date on this W30 journey to crack a bottle of champagne open and raise a glass to one of my biggest musical heroes (to accompany the listening I did last night to all of my favourite albums of his)..but I didn't, instead I had a glass of san pellegrino and threw some raspberries in it and recalled all manner of ways Bowie has created the soundtrack to my life. Am extremely sad about it but equally inspired by someone who created such colour, musical genius and art right up to the very end of his life-what an amazing legacy to leave! So today M1 was a throw together meal of vegetable leftovers from last night with two eggs (used duck fat). M2-was too hot to go out to the shops so had a scatty meal of tuna, baby spinach, cherry tomatoes, avocado with olive oil and balsamic. M3-still too hot to cook but I went to the shops (air con blazing in the car) and got some freshly cooked tiger prawns and made a delicious salad of baby spinach, avocado, prawns, olives, cherry tomatoes with olive oil and balsamic dressing. Have taken a few photos of meals, will upload them when I have a few more. Am really enjoying all the insights people are sharing on here about their food behaviours. Hope all are doing well!

Hi Debra and XDools! I'm a former sandgroper (from Fremantle originally) but now living in Sydney. I hope you are managing okay in the heat, WA summers are something else altogether on the heat range and I always found it hard to eat in summer there, the heat just wipes your appetite out a lot of the time. Good to know you are both safe from the fires although I bet the air is probably thick with smoke. Stay safe and cool the two of you!!

Hey sugarcube, yes, purely macros in terms of the template, I'm not sure I would even know how to count or track them lol! A template with servings of thumb sizes, handfuls etc is good enough for me. So my Day 10 is now complete. I had a big breakfast because I knew my day might be a bit skewed with work stuff like yesterday so M1: throw together hotel room meal of left over roast chicken, roast vegetables and some salad with some olive oil. M2: another scatty on the road meal driving meal but roast lamb leftovers and a salad with olive oil and balsamic and M3 decided to treat myself because I was home and made some crispy Chinese pork belly (just used a dry rub of five spice, salt, black pepper and a bit of chilli) with some cauliflower fried rice and steamed Chinese broccoli. Might have a mango a bit later. Have also had a kombucha and loads of mineral water with lemon. Have had a few comments from family and friends about my skin and eyes looking fresh and "glowing" which is nice to hear. Big things I am noticing is my previously bloated stomach is back to its normal size, all bloating is gone! My energy levels are flying and I feel clear headed and 'present'. Have had a HUGE weekend of work related stuff with very intense and confronting things involved which, although I am used to that in my line of work normally by this stage I would be curling up on the couch and dozing as a means of blocking a lot of it out. I actually feel very alert and might now go for a walk or possibly the gym. Energy levels are excellent. Just very pleased with how I am feeling. Hope everyone else is doing well, loving reading the posts and progress to date.

This is exactly what I had last night in place of a glass of champagne, wasn't so bad and certainly a lot cheaper!

    CALLING ALL JANUARY 1ST WHOLE30ERS!

Day 9 down, have been driving and in work meetings all day so adherence to meal times has been tough. I had M1 around 7.30am with some liver, two compliant bacon strips, an egg and a some kale but was actually not really hungry and had to force myself to eat and then took some leftovers with me . I then had to drive for 2 hours and was in a meeting from 10am to 1.30pm so was crazy hungry by the time I came out. Thankfully I had prepared with bringing food but ate M2 during the half hour drive to my 2pm meeting (while also driving-bit of an effort!!). For that meal I had some salmon I had poached in the morning with some ghee and garlic, a boiled egg and some left over kale from breakfast-a bit average but almost hitting the macros (fat content down a bit but I had some coconut flakes after it). Out of that meeting by 5.30pm and pretty sure because I had such a gap between M1 and M2 I was again ravenous! Got to my hotel room and gobbled down 2 boiled eggs as a snack before nipping off to the supermarket and getting some pre-made salad (with no dressing), some sparkling mineral water and some lychees and a mango and raspberries. Came back and mixed the salad with the roast chicken I cooked last night [and packed for today] and an olive oil/balsamic dressing. I then had half a mango, about 4 or 5 lychees, and some raspberries with coconut flakes. Far cry from my normal comfort food room service and/or hotel restaurant orders but definitely made me realise how much I have been lapsing of late with bad habits on my work trips. Will definitely be tightening up my act around this from now on. Quite proud of myself for getting through it though, and definitely starting to realise the importance of the regular meal times and appropriate macro ratios.

Day 8 down, started with coffee with coconut milk and had a training session with my PT in the gym at 7am. Was a really productive session and I was pleased with my strength and stamina. Did lots of weights and also some sprints and just felt strong. Meals today: M1: Liver, eggs, compliant bacon, baby spinach, cherry tomatoes, avocado with ghee M2: pan fried salmon, with left over papaya/avo salsa from last night, spinach, coconut flakes and some fresh oysters [just because they were fresh and yummy and it is Friday!] M3: Had a bit of a play with some coconut oil, lime juice, garlic, coconut amines and chilli and made a roast chicken on the barby with some roasted sweet potatoes, mushrooms, brussel sprouts, broccolini and kale, was pretty damn yum. Travelling tomorrow morning for work coming back Sunday so have portioned up the roast chicken and some left over roast lamb and roast vegetables to take, will grab a salad bag from the supermarket and take some olive oil with me and probably pack it all in a little esky (thankfully am driving not flying this time). I have olives, nuts, coconut flakes and tins of salmon, sardines for other meal options. I also have my bone broth setting in the fridge, have been cooking it for the last 24 hours, looks great so will take some of that as well. For someone that normally just has an overnight bag and my laptop on work trips I don't think I've ever been so organised lol!

Trying to be very organised and sort out a photo bucket of meals cooked to date. I haven't taken photos of everything I've cooked but have tried to take at least one a day. Hopefully this works: http://s1318.photobucket.com/user/bornsandy/library/Whole%2030%20meals?sort=2&page=1

I have a jawbone and RHR has dropped from 61, 7 days ago to 58, sleep is way better too. I just had a session with my PT and even my PT (who is a notorious hard arse ) said she was impressed with my endurance and strength, I went heavier, harder and longer in everything and this is only a week in-yay!
