    I am happy to report that I was VERY happy with my dining experience at Fogo de Chao!  (And proud of myself for sticking to my Whole30 despite strong thoughts of "it's a special occasion, would a little wine and a piece of chocolate one day really hurt?")
     
    Anyways, I told our waiter about all of my dietary restrictions right away.  He was very knowledgable and immediately told me what I could have as is (the Picanha, filet mignon, rib eye, top sirloin, bottom sirloin and beef ribs), what they could modify for me by cooking in only sea salt (the lamb legs, the lamb chop and the chicken) and what I should avoid all together (the parmesan pork loin, the sausage and anything wrapped in bacon).  He made me feel completely comfortable asking, and even walked me through the salad bar to point out what I could have and what I couldn't.  This was really helpful because I wouldn't have had any idea about a lot of the cooked and marinated veggies (for instance, the beets had added sugar but the zucchini and string beans were just in olive oil salt and pepper).  Anything they didn't know (like does the smoked salmon have sugar? it didn't!), they found out the answer right away.  
     
    All of the servers seemed to know my requirements, but all were very subtle about it.  I didn't ask them to make chicken special for me (who wants chicken when you have lamb and filet mignon?!), but they made TWO batches of lamb legs with just salt and it was awesome!  I had more than enough to eat, but didn't feel disgusting like I would after a heavy carb binge.  I definitely recommend Fogo for Whole30 dinners out!

    This is great to have. I'll re read chapter 20 of ISWF too. I'm not interested in re-introduction right now but I was going to ask a few questions. The links above answered them all. Even if I already read them all, now that I'm in the thick of things they mean more.
    I think you folks do everything here so professionally I'm just So impressed.

    I would go to Costa Rica (we've been trying to plan a trip there for ages). We'd rent a house on the beach, close enough to town that we could hit the market for fresh produce and fish. Our house would have an awesome kitchen, where we'd cook all of our own food... but we'd also have daily cleaning service, so we never had to clean up after ourselves.
    Fresh fish and seafood, mango salsa (we'd go during mango season, of course), fruit smoothies (because when you're on vacation, it's okay to go a little crazy), and tons and tons of fresh salads, because when I'm south of the border, I'm always craving greens.
    There would also be this little place in town that served pulled pork, chicken, and beef, and they could make us lettuce tacos with fresh salsa and mole sauce any time we asked. Yum.
    I'd focus a ton of fun and play, and surf, paddleboard, and do yoga. There would also be awesome mountain biking trails nearby in the hills (hey, it's MY vacation), and we'd take our bikes up there a few times, too.
    And we'd find an awesome, giant boat to take us fishing and snorkeling, and we'd eat fish we caught right off the boat, sushi-style. I forgot about that part.
    Heaven.

    New Years health talk in the lunch room at work...
     
    Coworker: I started doing Weight Watchers again.
    Me: Oh?
    CW: Yeah, it works, I lost 30lbs last time.
    Me: Ummm....did it really "work" if you have to do it again?
    Coworker: I lost 30lbs last time.
     
    I actually feel like the "I'm doing WW again because it worked for me before" is something I hear a lot and just doesn't make sense.

    Just like a square is a rectangle but a rectangle is not necessarily a square. So grains are carbs but carbs are not necessarily grains. Why is this such a hard concept to grasp?

    "I couldn't do what you do" (those who did know me 70+ pounds ago)
    "What DO you eat?" (coworkers who see my great lunches daily)
    "You have such willpower" (to do what?  eat right???)
    "When are you going to be done with all of this?" (ummmm, hopefully I'm never going back!)
    "I can't BELIEVE you're eating THAT!"  (I am soooo going to say this one someday to someone!)
    "I only used a "little" (insert margerine, olivio, sugar, fake sugar, etc.)"   (my sweet mother in law who tries but doesn't understand)
     
    Oh, I could go on and on, but I will say that leading by quiet example gets more people to stop saying some of these things!  =)

    Sometimes, the FB page makes us a little crazy, too  But, when you have a community of over 50K people, there are bound to be folks who are passionate about every topic we post.

    In January, I saw my doctor. She mentioned I had lost a few pounds (I discovered Paleo last year.) I said yes and explained how I had changed my eating habits. She said, "Well, you'll never be able to lose it with just diet and exercise" while handing me a brochure for lap band surgery.
     
    I just had a check up - down nearly 30 more pounds & blood pressure is finally in normal range again.  No kudos from doc, just a reminder that they offer surgery (and will happily finance it for me too). 
     
    Needless to say, *if* I need to see a doctor again, it won't be her!!!
     
    Same doctor is extremely concerned my 2 year old doesn't drink milk. (Dot breastfed for 13 months and I just never gave her bovine juice.) She eats like I do - tons of fresh veggies plus meat and fats. She does eat more fruit than I do though.  Dot is off the chart in height and 75% in weight. Her iron levels are excellent and other blood work shows that she's solidly healthy and has no vitamin/mineral deficienes. But I'm depriving her of calcium. By not giving her milk. SMH!

    Me to my sister-in-law, whose unhealthy weight concerns me (when she asked about my eating): I used to binge eat, but I don't feel the need to any more because I get satisfied with what I'm eating at mealtimes.
    Her: My problem is portion control.
    Me: When I was eating grains and sugar, It seemed like I always wanted more. Now I can feel when to stop and at the end of the meal I'm full.
    Her: Yes, but my problem is portion control. 
    Me: [sigh; change subject]

    In my 1.5 years of paleo eating, I've gotten some stupid comments. But I think the ones that make me the most frustrated is the deprivation ones. And I'm over here eating something SUPER delicious and filling and yummy and they still don't get it.

    The ideal approach would be to eat the post-WO immediately after your workout, with meal#1 coming soon after. For me that means eating some protein at the gym right after, then sauna/shower/dress/walk to work, then meal #1. For a long time I combined post-WO and meal #1, but that meant I didn't eat until about an hour postWO, not quick enough for the recommendations, so I'm trying it this way.

    The Goya Brand has no additives and is usually available in your local supermarket. Look in the canned milk section or the Hispanic Foods section.

    Native Forest Unsweetened is compliant. You can get a pretty good deal on it through Vitacost.com. I find it very nice too, I've used other brands and I like this one best.

    The Trader Joe's coconut milk in the can is compliant.
