My wife's co-worker says daily "it's low fat so it's good for you".
Last night my mother in law asked if I wanted pound cake and brightly colored store bought ice-cream after dinner. I refused and heard "I like you better when you ate stuff". Her sister then chimed in "it's ok, he's just trying to lose weight". **shakes head and rolls-eyes**
My neighbor while telling an anecdote a couple of nights ago - "gluten free people piss me off (few second pause), can you eat peanuts on the paleo thing?"
"Your brother in law has been told he has high cholesterol and they want him to improve it with diet before they prescribe medication."
Me - "Oh yeah, what diet changes do they want him to make?"
"No red meat, no milk, no shrimp, eat whole grains"
Me - "urgh"
Me- "Can you believe they put soy in canned tuna?"
Relative - "errrr, i'm never eating tuna again"
Me - "But you drink soy milk"
Relative - "Yeah, but I don't want it in my tuna"
My wife's aunt quit smoking, cut out most of the refined sugar in her diet, asked me about paleo, bought some books on the subject, then a couple of weeks later I asked her if she'd started and she replied - "no, I could never give up bread".
Why do people love bread so much? It was always just been a vessel to get meat into my face!!!

My friend said "Oh it's all right for you, you've always been able to give things up (having a severe gluten reaction, I've had no choice) but I couldn't possibly eat like you - I like my food too much"
Another friend " Oh I couldn't possibly eat like you - I couldn't afford all that meat and fresh vegetables are really expensive" while, I kid you not, filling her supermarket trolley with Over £80 of cakes, bisciuts, sweets and processed crap.

I don't need to give up grains cause they don't affect me the way they do you. - my sister
a phone conversation I had with my mom this summer, after I gave up wheat because of being sensitive to it-
mom: So you can't have cake on your birthday? what about coconut pie?
me: no mom, crust has wheat
mom: oh yeah. What about cookies?
me: no mom, cookies have wheat.
mom: oh my, you can't eat much
(I did end up having cake, made with coconut flour. I know not whole30, but sure was delish! That was before I had even bought ISWF)

This was in jest, from a co-worker with whom I'm friends, but: "you should go crazy this weekend and eat a whole peanut!"
Then, a discussion about how peanuts are not NUTS ensued. (I am not going to eat a peanut this weekend, or an weekend in the foreseeable future!)

"salad is not a food!"
wha-what? I still wonder what they think salad is.
One of my favorites was a vegetarian co-worker who was drinking a Diet coke and eating Fritos and a hostess cupcake told me that the grassfed steak on my salad would give me colon cancer. I looked at her lunch and then at mine and said "that is a risk I am willing to take."

My dental hygienist told me today that a low-carb diet will give me periodontal disease. She said that the carb digesting enzymes secreted during the eating process do not know what to do when we don't eat carbs, so the enzymes turn into sugar and cause mouth bacteria.
Never heard that one before...
I told her that my periodontal issues had greatly improved since giving up grains/sugar. She said that they will get bad again if I don't eat carbs. (I've been mostly Paleo for 3 years now.)
I didn't bother to argue. What's the point? She is convinced she is right.
