    Oh my goodness! This is the same for me!!! I am a recent coffee drinker (I'm 47, maybe drinking it for a year+) but have always stopped at the corner gas station and gotten a 32 oz diet Coke. My first W30 this was what I missed. I still had the coffee with various disgusting coconut creamer concoctions, but I wanted a diet Coke SOOOOOO BAD! That W30 ended and I have an occasional soda now but broke the "diet Coke dragon". Now this time, I'm attempting to give up coffee. Why? I drink it with a ton of heavy cream, and I think that's bothering me. Cheese doesn't seem to have an effect, nor butter. So I think I"m going to give up coffee for a while or at worst, make it bulletproof with grassfed butter. It's funny to see what people struggle with - it can be so varied! Min

    Thanks for the nudge!! It wasn't hiding at all! It was in a (small) peanut butter cup that I had gotten for my daughter. Then the bite of ice cream that my husband was having! Though, as I'm not drying to be dogmatically strict like my first W30, that's a far better dip into the pool than in days past. I don't think that's bothered me as much as my holding on to heavy cream - I may have to part ways with it for a while. I definitely have the bloat as a result which I don't ever notice with butter or even some harder cheeses. I might have to think about that a bit.... (Note- I'm really doing more of a Primal plan than Paleo...so don't let that throw any of the W30 1st timers!)

    I'm in, too. I am having a harder time this time. My food's been good but a couple sugars finding their way in and I can't seem to care. I feel like I'm getting heavier, but I remember that from the last round, too. I think that "real food" takes longer to process or something! LOL!

    I'm with you! My situation is that I successfully completed my first W30 on October 31st and felt fantastic after losing 9 pounds and just ridding my life of junk. Then Christmas happened, then I tried to recover, and now I am gaining weight like nobody's business! I feel WRECKED. My pants are so tight I want to hide in my house and never leave (this is a really bad place to be!). To so quickly go from feeling victorious to this awfulness...it's embarrassing! I feel so badly that I made a doctor's appointment to re-check my thyroid. Something's up. That said, I have a tendency to be diligent for several days and then crash & burn into a pint of ice cream! I know I own most of the blame here. I have a pretty stressful next 3 weeks at work and had planned to start on. March 2 nd after the big event. But tonight I just decided I can't wait. In three weeks, my jeans won't fit at this rate. Time to turn the train around NOW. Since I did the true W30 last time, and noticed no real issue with dairy, I am going to keep dairyi n the mix this time and do more of a Whole Primal....and not just 30. I don't have a number in mind yet. Maybe the end of March. So I'm calling it my Primal 30+. Good luck to us!
  6. So I am in a panic, 2 days from the end! (Day 28) I've lost my mojo! I haven't cheated, prob too many nuts in general, but that's the case all the time. I have come down with a wretched head cold and since Friday I've taken cold meds. Nighttime stuff and some sudafed for sinus pressure. I haven't visited the ladies room....if you know what I mean....since Saturday! I feel like I'm going to explode! My food is fine! I'm following the rules and want to finish strong. Only other element is I'm coming up on that lovely lady time.....arghh! I will be so depressed if on the 30th this is not seriously different. I feel gigantic, bloated and wouldn't even want to put a tape measure around my waist! Do you think cold meds could cause this much trouble? Or is it that plus PMS causing the perfect storm? So frustrated! And a little sad that it might end badly.

    Can cold medications mess you up?

    Yup. I take mag, probiotic, & psyllium every night, have for years. I took NyQuil gel caps 2 nights. Half dose (which knocks me out), then sudafed not from the pharmacy. Grrrr. Irritating. I'm drinking buckets of water tonight, maybe that will help. Thanks all.

    Not too many nuts than my usual... No new foods, the only raw I have are salads. Thanks for the feedback. Ultimately, if I don't "recover" from this ....I won't weigh in until it passes. I don't want to be depressed!

    I am confused about reintro. If I have dairy at every meal on day 31, then how will I know if I can tolerate â€some" dairy, like butter, and maybe need to avoid over doing dairy, like having cheese at every meal? It seems that I should test butter one day, then maybe heavy cream one day, and maybe cheese another? I'm also wondering what I am looking for as a "reaction"? I have a wretched head cold now so I'm not sure if I'll notice any sinus issues...or is it strictly weight related? Am I missing something? My plan is only to test dairy, and non-gluten grains. I want to test rice and corn. Again, should those be tested on different days?

    I totally know what you mean! I looked back on my spreadsheet (I am the spreadsheet queen!) and noticed that this time last year I was in the same place. Then stopped keeping track for the 6 weeks of the holiday season....and my spreadsheet started up again after New Years with an extra 6 pounds. I DO NOT want to repeat that again! I want to start the New Year ahead of the curve, feeling in control and have some other resolution!

    I have it all planned out. It will be Halloween, when most people Ugarit themselves out. For me, my "treat" will be dairy! I will have butter intimacy coffee, maybe a splash of heavy cream. For lunch I will go to Chipotle and have a salad with barbacoa and CHEESE. For dinner, I will make cauliflower pizza (crust) with a ton of cheese on top. If I have any dairy issues, this plan will make it appear! I'm hoping I don't, but going forward I will be cutting my dairy consumption even if I'm ok with it. I'm always going to be gluten free so won't reintroduce that, and legumes aren't a part of my diet either, so affect days later I might test rice or corn, the non-gluten grains. My plan, if all goes well, is to continue riding my own bike by going more "primal" with the addition of dairy. Hope that I can!
  16. I'll echo Tom. I'm coming here (day 23) from LCHF and more recently from a ketogenic bent. I could never get my blood ketones where they needed to be. So I let go of the fear of carbs and have been eating a 1/2-1 sweet potato a day and half an apple on several days per week. I don't now about the scale by I know I have lost weight. The other difference is I have more energy. Not a lot...but more, more contentedness. I don't usually log my food but I have done it a couple days and Lo and behold, my net carbs are still around 50. So still low carb by many standards, but not ultra low. So as a LC lifer....I'm now reconsidering and may be more Paleo-ish. I've been eating grass fed everything and no gluten and the increased roots and lack of dairy is really the only change I've made. Give it a shot!

    Day 16 for me and I suddenly feel ....fat! Ugh. Don't know what changed but feel bloated and my flat tummy has disappeared. Wasn't this supposed to happen LAST week on the timeline? Me and my molasses metabolism! I hope this will quickly turn around.

    I still crave it every day....but I don't think I'll go back at the end of 30 days. Maybe as a "treat" at a party or something (I don't drink alcohol, btw), but not every day or even weekly. We got this!

    Halfway through and already thinking of the end. Does anyone do shorter stints of W30 (after the first)? I'd like to take a week to enjoy a Paleo treat and then to test dairy...but then get back to something more regimented before Thanksgiving. I've done the 21 Day Sugar Detox before but am really enjoying my sweet potato! Does anyone every do a modified W30 after themed figured out their issues and know what they can safely eat?

    Day 13 here too. Got up and went to breakfast with hubby, feeling pretty good....no bloating, feel "thinner", ya know....but now 1:30 PM and I could soooo use a nap! I'm kinda IF'ing this afternoon in anticipation of a great chicken recipe for dinner. Just having a pumpkin latte to get me thru (Paleo version). Not hungry, just tired. My husband and I used to Kettlebell 2-3x per week and have gotten away from it this summer. Tried that yesterday....did 10 minutes and just couldn't do it. I need to find a workout solution. Might take up yoga. Feel guilty for ignoring the bells! Ideally I'd work out when I'm at my high energy point of the day, but my boss might frown on kettlebelling in the office hallway! By day's end, I have nothing left. Hoping for a big turn-around in the next couple of days! Trixie, I'm with you on the dC! Holy cow....13 days and I miss it so much! Crave them all the time and I was only a 20 oz per day girl! What the heck is IN that stuff??? Whatever it is it must be bad if we want it so much!

    Day 10, still want sugar, BAD

    Actually, my body is not used to quick energy! Prior to this body-hacking experiment, I was a ketogenic dieter. Thus, (coffee), fat and bacon & no veggies looks to me like a "complete meal". It's now day 11 and I've had a total of 3 sweet potatoes and a couple carrots. Hard for me to think that the starchy carbs won't lead to weight gain but since, technically, my fat is lower, my protein higher, maybe the carbs won't be so bad. Having less fat is what's giving me lower energy, IMO. So I guess I should just have a sweet potato or a beet and see what happens. Also to Amberino, my meals did have fat in my sample menu, I just didn't list them out. Fat is not a problem! And my bacon is compliant. Thanks for the tips and meal ideas. For history, I am 47. In my 30's I was about 255# and lived on sugar when I wasn't on weight watchers. I'd totally spend all my points on M&M's. Around 1998, I lost almost 100# basically by just cutting down! but let's call it starvation. I hung out at that weight for 6 years then inched my way back up to 200#. I started another diet at that point, not wanting to totally undo myself, and eventually found low-carb and then that morphed into Primal (I've always had dairy until this W30). I'm now probably 20# from where I can comfortably hang out at my age. So, low carb is not a problem. Running on ketones is not a problem. Convincing myself that a carrot/beet/sweet potato is not going to kill me is! I'm not sure what is worse, the physical damage done over the years, or the psychological implications. When it's all said and done, IF I find I am still ok with dairy, Primal is probably where I'll "live"- on the LC side.....
  22. Today is day 10 of my W30 and the good news is that I'm still here. Is it too soon to hope that the cravings for sugar, specifically Chocolate, will have gone away? I still think about it a lot, and it's all over the office where I work and it takes every ounce of my willpower to not have any. I haven't, btw. Interestingly, I also still crave diet Coke. In fact, that's the thing I miss the most. I'm wiped out, too. I sometimes Have to take a power nap when I get home. I'm waiting to get the energy that people talk of....and to not dread the next 20 days. I usually feel better after a nap & dinner. Thoughts? In some ways I feel like I'm "white knuckling"this thing.

    OK, thanks for that. The thought of veggies at breakfast makes me sick. Blech! I'm a very fussy eater so I don't touch mushrooms, tomatoes, onions - - stuff that people usually add to eggs. But I'll do something. I guess I can have a salad! So this might help energy but I don't see my chocolate/sweets cravings leaving any time soon ....or ever. I wish they would! I literally had to give myself a talking to this AM before I landed at work, because I was to be the first one in and the Hershey Miniatures are abundant! It was all I could think about! ...no, I didn't. But I was thinking about it! Ugh!

    Day 10, still want sugar, BAD

    Average day: Coffee with my coconut milk "creamer" Uncured bacon - 2-4 strips pinch of nuts (like one mouthful) Leftover meat & broccoli or salad 1/2 apple or berries or nothing (around 3-4 pm...just to get me through) dinner is meat & green veg, sometimes a 1/2 sweet potato (roasted with coconut oil or baked with ghee) My fats are the coconut milk, ghee, coconut oil for cooking. On the w/e's I'm more likely to have eggs in the AM. Sometimes if I'm desperate and have to work late, I'll have eggs for a quick dinner too. On a couple of occasions, at night, I've had a pinch of nuts and a pinch of raisins because I really want something sweet. I know it's dangerous so it's not an everyday thing. Thoughts?? Sometimes I do think I need to eat more....and other times I'm stuffed and feel fat.

    Holy cow! Back away from the diet Coke and nobody gets hurt! LOL! If a handful of nuts or half an apple keep you from the edge then by all means, cut yourself a break! On day 3 you need to pick your battles. Worry about perfection next week. At least that's my point of view. Tonight after dinner, my usual dark chocolate time, I had a pinch of salted nuts and a pinch of raisins. It was heavenly, and just enough to get me to "settle down." I find that I do well in the AM and by mid afternoon I'm in a slump. Dinner rejuvenated me. Maybe I need to eat more at lunch. But please stick it out. In 27 days you'll be happy you did. Keep us posted!
