Hello Georgia.  You don't mind if I call you Miss Scarlett, do you?   Now Miss Scarlett had WANT POWER.
WANT POWER trumps will power.   She had more mojo and moxey than most.  She never gave up and WOW, she knew how to quit sugar, smoking and drinking too much hooch booch.

So glad to have you on board, Georgia.  Moxey is getting the confidence up to do anything.  I think you have that.

Consume bioactive phytochemicals.  Consuming sufficient plant nutrients is also important to ensure an optimal metabolism.   Whole 30 recommends 9 cups of cooked vegetables a day to keep your metabolism roaring.

Only a well-functioning gut guarantees an optimal Whole 30.  To support the intestinal flora, some take probiotics that contain a mixture to get enough nutrients from their food.

A Whole 30 has enough potassium.  A balanced acid-base level is a prerequisite for a well-functioning metabolism.  During a Whole 30, you don't have to worry about a slower metabolism like what happens on a diet of over-restriction.  Diets always result in a slower metabolism.

Minerals are important for the acid-base balance in the human organism.  Potassium is the counterpart to sodium and ensures that the fluids are properly flushed from the tissues.  You don't have to worry about any of that on a Whole 30.  Everything has been figured out for you.

A Whole 30 that is a complete success includes the consumption of biologically high-quality protein.  This avoids the significant loss of the body's own protein that happens during any other radical diet.  A Whole 30 prevents the depletion of the body - especially of muscle mass.

Muscle mass preserves the well-being and performance better than any drastic calorie reduction.  A Whole 30 positively influences the feeling of satiety.  This is a necessary prerequisite for completing a compliant Whole 30 without complaint.

If you are constantly hungry, you may cave in and give up.   Bone Broth is a food with high volume nutrition and leads to great feeling of satiety, too.  Enjoy it slowly...sip by sip.

This is for those who've completed one compliant Whole 30...100%.  No SWYPO's and cooking is required.   Please bring your own personality and groceries.  No artificial flavorings or additives.   Authentic, genuine and honest ingredients are a must.   Reintroductions will be promoted for a smooth seamless transition after a Whole 30 days.   Helpful recipes will be welcomed.

Cottage Queen, wow!!  Way to go!  It feels soooo good when you really notice how you feel so good - right?  That is wonderful.

Meadow, your post yesterday made my day.  Hugs right on back to you!  I hope your toe is on the mend right quick - ouch!!  Last time I did that was, in all places, at a yoga studio.  Slipped on someone else's sweat (yuck) and rolled my toe.  It was swollen and purple for a while, but got better.  I haven't tried comfrey, but I've used arnica for such things.

Dave, have a wonderful spring break with the whole fam!

I DO have some Irish on my dad's side:  Scotch Irish roots from way way back when.  Sounds like we should make some Whole30 Irish fare to celebrate, a la Deb.  Some tasty colcannon, a shepherd's pie perhaps?

Top o' the mornin' to you all,

I'm Slovenian......mostly. My great grandparents met at a train station, married and came to the states. That makes me only a third generation American since they got here in the late 1800's, early 1900's. I do have a little Irish and my wife is very Irish. Slovenians have the power to celebrate drinking on a yearly basis instead of just special occasions or days.

Today is a day off so I will be running errands like getting a hair cut, dropping the wife's dog off at the groomer, this, that, and the other. Goofing off! My oldest comes home from college for spring break today which will be great. Should be a fun weekend.

Lily - sorry about those toes.......not fun!

Cottage Queen - I'm very proud and impressed with your accomplishments. It's not easy to break old habits of eating donuts, cookies, CRAP that you have grown accustomed to having. My work has bagels one day and donuts the next and potlucks, and.......it gets ridiculous after awhile. You could literally survive in my office without ever having to buy or bring food in. Its like wandering around a Sam's club around lunch time to eat enough free samples to call it a meal. I'm glad you are feeling the extra energy, the extra strength and willpower, the smaller clothes.....all of these awards YOU have earned. Good for you!

Hi everyone!  Awesome flurry of posts - I'm so glad to see everyone still here and kickin' it.  Reading the posts this morning was just the boost I needed as I'm trying to regroup a bit as well.  Reigning in the offloading… working on some new goals.  Since my off road fest, my sleep has not been as good, sugar cravings are back with a vengeance and I have been drenched in night sweats nearly every night (a symptom that goes away completely when W30-ing).  That is plenty motivational.  And yeah, I've been at a bit of plateau here, too.  So much of what y'all have been writing about has resonated for me!  My super beginner running training was stalling out as I was working on building a base before adding distance (3 miles, 3x week) - that gets boring, especially when there's a choice of two routes from my house.  In the last couple weeks though I started introducing speed work in short bursts, and was astonished this week when, on just a normal 30 minute run, I averaged a full minute per mile faster than what I'd been doing!  Crazy.

…and I have to revel that I even just wrote that sentence.  I've had a goal of getting back to running for years, and kept having so many injuries I couldn't do it. But baby, I'm baaack!  Switching it up is good.  That post, Meadow?  6 days/week of cross fit?  Yikes, her body must be exhausted.

Laurie, like fruit is your gateway drug:  mine is almond milk lattes.

Dave: revel in that budgeting class!  Wheee!  Hidden behind the nature girl, I am also an Excel geek, and actually think that crunching numbers is fun.  I once made an Excel spreadsheet tracking the egg laying of each of my individual hens.  True story.  Lolita, my New Hampshire red, was the star.  Hanapepe, my Americana, laid the largest and occasional double-yolkers.

This weekend is going to be rainy and wet: a perfect weekend for a cookup, lamb shanks, bone broth!  Yippee!

    Love and hugs to all!

That case study made absolutely no sense since the woman was not eating low carb.  Combine that with all those nuts and it's a recipe for disaster.

Our coach, Dave, is back.  Now it's time for the fun.

I am grateful to those that are still posting and hoping that everyone else is doing well riding their own bikes.

I feel lost.  Steve is not doing well.  He has chronic graft vs. host disease, his liver enzymes are elevated and he lost 7 pounds in the last few weeks.  Doctor raised the prednisone so hopefully that will make him feel better and also increase his appetite.

Last week, when Steve was in the hospital, I had 2 noncompliant bites.  Steve's mom bought me a salad with chicken and no dressing (my request).  The salad came from Subway so you know what that means. The chicken was TERRIBLE so I only had one bite. I did eat the salad  which was fine.  I also had a bite of Steve's turkey (hospital sandwich - just ate the turkey, no bread) which was my 2nd downfall.  I knew these foods were not complaint so I don't know why I ate them.  I guess it was hunger.  I ruined my whole whatever over 2 disgusting bites.  Oh well.  The next day, March 4th, I was right back on the Whole 30 wagon.

I eliminated fruit on January 7th and made it through March 7th.  It was difficult at first but got much easier in time.  March 8th, I began my relationship with fruit again - 1 orange for the day.  Next day - another orange.  Next day orange and watermelon and the next - orange, watermelon and 3 strawberries. My portions of watermelon were normal but they were not with a meal.  It's time to say goodbye to fruit again before this habit gets out of control.  I need to keep fruit in the house for Steve (and he recently requested watermelon - my favorite) so I must  regain the strength to say NO to fruit.

Today I am finally going to start a log and post for 30 days.

Meadow, our rock. Green is one of my fav colors too. right beside red...

Happy to say the stomach bug is well behind me... I noticed something interesting after my unintentional fast. I got a LOT of sleep Sunday, Monday I had a lot of pain in my back, especially the lower. Found a heating pad and used it off and on thru out the day. Since then I have noticed my left shoulder pain, tightness, and ROM has majorly improved. Amazing how things that seem bad can have positive outcomes...

Day 50 and improvements keep on coming!

Welcome back Dave, Lily Meadow thanks for keeping the group alive. I have been so busy with my new job and activities, that I flew away from here for a while but not from the Whole30 lifestyle, most of the days, minus the weekend I got a bad cold and ate a handful of dates (a no brake food to me). But keeping it real and healing my bladder and my whole being in general.

Best to all of the group, Laurie & Steve, Higs, Miki, Lily, CC, Dave, Cottage Queen, GrannieD, and all the other names that I cannot remember now.

Thanks for the warm welcome back Meadow. I am back! This is my second day in a row of posting......wow! It seems that I have been away long enough to make it hard to remember to log in on a daily basis and catch up. I have been reading back thru the threads to find out how everyone has been doing. I see some people are trying to do their manicures in the blender........ouch!

This time of year is pretty tough since I am trying to work out very big budgets for my program and trying to ensure I have the correct amount of people and skillsets on staff. busy......busy.....busy

Put homework, life, wife, kids, shoulder healing, dogs, and everything else on top of that and it's amazing I have any sanity.

My oldest comes home from U. of Maryland this weekend for his Spring Break which will be great to have him home for a couple weeks. The house is always more fun/sillier when all of my boys are together.

Hope everyone is kicking ass today. Hugs to everyone who needs one.......ah....hell......take one anyone!

Till touch down brings me round again to find
I'm not the man they think I am at home
Oh no, no, no, I'm a rocket man
Rocket man burning out his fuse up here alone

Mars ain't the kind of place to raise your kids
In fact it's cold as Hell
And there's no one there to raise them if you didn't
And all this science, I don't understand
It's just my job, five days a week
A rocket man, a rocket man

And I think it's gonna be a long long time
Till touch down brings me round again to find

Wouldn't you know I would show up on page 69......like a true dirty bird! Hello everyone! I think my shoulder has finally turned a corner as of last night. It feels like it is actually attached to the rest of me and I have much less pain. I had a few beers with friends over the weekend and couldn't remember if I was still on a Whole 30 or not. I think I was done, but not really sure. I swear the Oxy from last month has made me forget everything. I started a new W30 today! I think I might just extend it to a 60 day commitment just to get me up and going as the weather starts to warm. I want to be able to do more (yard work, etc) and want to be able to feed my body appropriately as I move out of a sedentary lifestyle from surgery and the winter slowness.

I had one midterm last week and another one either this week or next. I am officially on spring break this weekend which means...............absolutely nothing other than one week without classes. I still have tons of homework so it's not really a break.

We've been having some serious winter weather for the past couple of weeks but the temps have improved and the snow is almost gone. It was beautiful on Sunday and I took the Comet for a long cruise......just me and the radio!

Higgs -  My brother was stationed in Astoria with the Coast Guard and I went out there to see him about 15 years ago. What a beautiful place. I took my oldest son who was about 5 at we climbed the Astoria Column and then threw paper airplanes from the top. Very cool place.

Miki - hope you are doing ok. Laurie - my best to Steve.....and to you!

Meadow - you are still our anchor......solid as always!

Everyone else, I'm sorry I have been in and out ......mostly out! You were always in my thoughts. Have a great day everyone!

    Cheers...

I can't tell you the best strategy to lose weight, but I can tell you the best ways to sabotage your weight, in my opinion:

Snack between meals. Your digestive processes won't get a break, and the hormone glucagon won't be released, so your body will use the calories you just ate rather than going to your fat stores for energy. See It Starts with Food for a really interesting explanation of the science.
Eat too little at meals. This will result in snacking later, on less nutrient dense foods or worse, non-compliant junk. Bonus: You will feel like a failure for being unable to resist that snack.
Eat too little fat. This will result in you getting hungry before your next meal, see above.
Eat lots of nuts, nut butters, fruit. This is hard on your stomach, heavy on inflammatory omega 6, and can be Food Without Brakes.
Again, this is just my two cents. Your body will shed weight when it is ready and not before. For many people, eating MORE will lead to this sooner and eating just a wee bit too little will stall your progress.

Good luck, we are all rooting for you!

Awhile back, I visited with Higs about Real Food Carbs.  I increased them, especially at breakfast - but lunch and dinner, too.  ^^^ I'm thrilled about Melissa's  recent article.

Fort Bliss, O Joy...O Happiness found.  This is going to help everyone going forward and I'm following this plan.

"Let’s get you back to the place where you are focusing on all of the other factors that improve when you fuel your body the way it needs to be fueled. Let’s reduce your stress, because wanting to lose weight and not losing weight is pretty darn stressful—which actually makes it harder to lose weight. Let’s just let all of that go for a little while (say, a month?), and even if you don’t full-on Whole30 this month, embrace the “no scale” rule and give yourself a much-deserved break from the preoccupation with weight loss and how your body looks.
Literally, I want you to say this out loud: I give myself permission to stop thinking about my body and weight loss. I swear, I have had more than a few clients who have been able to bust through a stall just by giving themselves permission to stop obsessing about their stall. (I’m thinking of you, Sandy in Toronto.)
I’d be shocked if this plan didn’t get you moving in the right direction again, from an overall health perspective. And once that happens, healthy, sustainable weight loss is a natural side effect, no stress, restriction, or obsession required. All the wins.
    Best in heath,
    Melissa

    Frogs

Where do frogs go when they need to think

    Do they follow the rules

And stick to their lily pad

French bistros are not the place for him

He wouldn't like a bait shop

He could meet friends at the gym

He needs to be safe and quiet

Frogs need to be worry free

With access to his daily foods....

    Flies, bugs, worms and bees

Under roots or the edge of a bog

At some lily pad that'll make him glad

Side of a meadow or old rotten log

    Even his own lily pad

What does a frog think about

Does he even take the time

    Do they think about flies

    Or avoiding the Rainbow Trout

    Hello all-
A quick meal update for today, to keep myself on track.

M1-A cherry spinach fritatta - eggs, coconut milk, coconut oil, spinach, frozen cherries, salt.  Yum!  I couldn't bring myself to eat the roasted garlic sausages with this, so had an extra big helping of the fritatta.

M2-shredded BBQ chicken with spinach and olives.  After eating this a few times, it really isn't all that bbq-y.  Maybe need more peppers?  It's only tomato sauce, vinegar and a few seasonings.  Tastes good, but I think I'll add some chili powder and black pepper to my next bowl.

M3-Steak, sweet potato, broccoli.  Ended up eating leftovers (the BBQ chicken) last night.  Feeling too cold and lazy to cook.
