    Chess0727 got a reaction from Chellie in January 6 - Day 1
    Hello All

Day 6 here and doing well.  I have my first business dinner coming up tomorrow night and it is a buffet with serving tables....going for the meats and veggies only....It would be too awkward to not eat but if there is truly nothing I can work with ~ I will put some things on the plate and push them around a bit.

Seltzer and lime will be the beverage of choice to keep people from pushing the alcohol We all know how that goes.

AND....I had a dream last night that I ate a piece of pecan pie....OMGOODNESS ~ I woke up this morning and was looking around the bedroom for crumbs, I really thought I ate it and the guilt was terrible.

So helpful to read everyone's updates....keep them coming they are incredibly helpful.

Strong work Team J6!  Wow, the Hangover has wreaked its usual share of havoc.  No worries, get through this weekend and we've got this.

    A note on timing.

I decided to initiate this round of Whole 30 on a Monday.  One of my many reasons for a Monday start is that Day 6 and 7 (I Just Want To Nap) fall on Saturday and Sunday.

Last go around, the host of ailments had subsided by Day 3 or 4.  But when day 6 hit, I was fatigued, tired, wiped out, exhausted.

Solution: I banked a nap on Saturday and Sunday.  It was very helpful.

Weekend naps are impossible for some.  Unnecessary for others.

Just a suggestion.  If possible, consider penciling in a bit of extra shut eye this weekend.

    Best,
    Robert

    A Reflection on Day 3:

I need to love myself as much as my children and my partner do.  My four-year old innocently tells me I'm fat but I know she loves me beyond reason and doesn't see my weight as a disqualifying condition.  My partner tells me I'm beautiful inside and out.  I will have faith in their love; believe I am important, that I am a blessing and I will treat myself with the love I - and they -  deserve.  I will do the next right thing out of love not self-flagellation.

Checking in for Day 3. I'd like to share a victory and vent a little bit.

First, for the victory. Last night was book club. My book club is pretty much an excuse to socialize with friends and drink wine during the week. I considered not going, but I thought it would be a good exercise in restraint and control. I think I may have underestimated how difficult it would be. I got there late with the intention of arriving after everyone had eaten, but, of course, they didn't even START eating until I got there. I had already informed everyone ahead of time that I was doing W30 and wouldn't be eating or drinking. Everyone was super supportive; no one tried to tempt me, which is great. So, I sat there demurely with my glass of water while everyone ate their pizza and salad and drank wine. I got through that part pretty well.

A little later came dessert. I swear ... I could SMELL the desserts as soon as the boxes were opened, and I was practically drooling all over myself. I'm surprised I didn't climb over the counter and attack the food like a starving vampire. (Side note: Has anyone else noticed that, after not eating anything sweet except for fruit and sweet potatoes, you are that much more sensitive to sweetness? I practically chomp at the bit for a chance to eat a banana.) To add insult to injury, whilst everyone was eating dessert, they talked about Little Debbie cakes the entire time. I felt like I was going to freak out.

BUT, with all that being said, I Didn't. Eat. ANYTHING. I sat there and quietly drank my glass of water.

Now, on to my venting. I don't really feel happy about this. I feel pretty pissed off, actually. I'm definitely in the anger stage (read this). I am so angry that I'm having such a hard time with this. I am so angry that I can't have sweets. I am so angry that I'm so angry! Instead of feeling happy that I was able to resist the sweets, I feel angry and resentful towards myself for having such a hard time and for having such a problem with food that I'm feeling this way at all.

This goes back to my post about having trouble with veggies in the morning. I'm being a total brat about having to do it. I literally stomped my feet in the kitchen this morning, grumbling the entire time about having to eat this crap these veggies first thing in the morning when ALL I want to do is eat fruit and oatmeal.

I may just need to have my own, private BF (bitch fit) at home. Maybe that'll help release some of this.

Anyway ... I am so thankful for this thread and everyone in it! This is really keeping me in it. Keep it up, y'all!

Strong work Team J6!  We are almost through the first week (aka Day 3)!  And many early starters are blazing the trail ahead.

We have an impressive group of folks gathered here.  Excellent excellent posts.

A note to the first timers:

Days 3 - 6 were challenging for me on my first W30.  Headache and difficulty focusing followed by fatigue, and pretty much every other ailment described in the preceding posts etc.  I exited the pain cave in good style on day 7.

To those of you quickly exiting the hangover/kill all the things phase, congratulations.  Be vigilant, there may be other challenges ahead.

For those getting hammered by W30, rest assured that this is normal and IT WILL PASS.  It may seem wickedly challenging while you're in the moment.  Remember, for every one thing you can't eat, there are a hundred things you can.  It's all about making the right choice.  Please keep sharing your challenges and look forward to stepping out of the cave sometime in the next few days.  It will happen.

If you get the sense that "I can't do this anymore," please share ASAP.  JKStarcher, Jesmarie and many others will give you the best darn motivational speech you have ever heard.

If you inadvertently stub your toe, no biggie.  Please share and get some guidance from our excellent team of moderators.

If you are not sure how you are going to handle that upcoming weekend with the family or trip to the chocolate factory with the kids or happy hour with your co-workers or weekend BBQ with the neighbors etc., let us know.  For every challenge, there are many solutions. It is so much easier if you talk through a plan up front.  CpTChuckie's upcoming weekend ice fishing trip is a perfect example.  A very W30 hostile environment.  Much like my trip to Disneyland with my son during my first W30.  For most of us, we need to think these challenges through instead of just winging it.

    Best,
    Robert

Great to read the fantastic success on Day 1 for Team J6.  And thanks to the moderators and repeat W30ers for giving us guidance. One common theme appeared to be in the veggie (more) and fruit (less) department.  Just remember, in addition to your protein and fat, 1 -3 cups of veggies need to join the party every meal.

My mom is joining us on this journey.  How great is it for me to be able to scold my mom to eat her veggies!

And a word to the wise -- start banking some sleep.  The next few days are not the time for you to stay up until 3:00 a.m. catching up on 30 episodes of Downton Abbey.

    Bring on Day 2.

    Good morning all!

Very exciting to see how many people are jumping on our Whole 30 bandwagon !!  Way to go Team J6:)

Am on day 2 (after a restart on day 6).  Feeling good ~ Honestly, am not feeling bad about the slip of the veggies, chicken and guacamole I ate as Im looking at it  as learning experience and it shows me I really need to hit the internet BEFORE I head out to a restaurant.

Right at my start, I did weigh in  and made a note of my measurements...did not take a photo ~ I will probably weigh in a couple of times per week (yes, I know it's against the rules...the scale and my urge to snack are my demons)  Im working on them   The support from this group is amazing and I feel confident that they will be overcome as we move through our Whole 30 together.

This weekend will find me doing a "cook up " on Sunday ~ I have been doing some batch cooking on the weekends (either Saturday or Sunday ~ whichever the schedule allows) to prepare 2 or 3 meals to have ready for the week.  This has been a tremendous help for my husband and I.  We are able to just reheat something and throw in some extra veggies on the side.  Im a fan of the crock pot and always have at least 1 meal from that each week.

I did make a Paleo Shepards Pie on New Years Day ~ oh my goodness ~ comfort food at its finest and we are not feeling deprived at all ~ anyone interested in the recipe, just let me know and I'll find the link to post.

My copy of Well Fed 2 arrived yesterday and I will pull a couple of new things to prepare for next week.  Fortunately, (or not) its very quiet here as we just got dumped with a foot of snow...so my phone is not ringing.  I work as a loan originator ~ holidays and bad weather are slow times for my business.  Gives me a bit more time to give some new foods/ recipes.

Really very happy that our group is growing and that we will all be able to share our day to day experiences with the W30!!

Hope everyone has a great Friday!

    Jennor,
Thanks for the kind words!  Yup, I've got some practice at least!!!

I also have to say that the emails are REALLY helping me too and the note about using the fruits for your "sweets' fix is one of my areas that I need to work on...I also want to "snack" a lot....I am absolutely NOT hungry so this is a very bad habit.  I have used compliant foods for my snacks but it is still the very bad habit.

I have some herbal teas that I have taken out from the cupboard and set on the counter ~ that is what I will have this afternoon between lunch and dinner.

I do still have 15 pounds to take off so these 2 points for me are key.

Hope everyone has a wonderful day!  We are getting another 10 to 16 inches of snow here in upstate NY so Im going to be doing some shoveling...but I do have to get my parents to the airport today as they head back to Florida.  Its going to be a long, slow and messy drive.
    Be well!

Welcome to all of our new joiners!
    I have just finished day 7 .....
Have a question for those of you that are more familiar with the W30 than I (this is my first)
Went out to eat with my family today ~ Chili's ~ so, I made the best choice based on the menu....chicken fajitas. I ate the chicken, onions, peppers, pico de gallo and guacamole. I did NOT the tortillas or any of the chips and salsa. Water was my beverage.
I have just now found (via an internet search) that Chilis uses vegegable oil and am not sure of the exact ingred. in the guacemole...Im sure there were preservatives.
My question is this ~ this was a non-compliant meal because of the oils and the preservatives. Do you count this as a non-compliant meal and start at day 1 again?
    Any advice/thoughts would be appreciated.
    Many thanks all.

Thanks so much for the feedback Chris!  It is all compliant food....snacking is one of my demons that I am working on ~ I battle the "non-hungry" snacking.  So when that happens, I at least reach for compliant foods!!

    Good morning all!

Welcome all newcomers....I started W30  early and today is day 6!!

Day 5 was a success   and Im starting to sleep really WELL.  Love this.

I guess I should probably give some background about me     I am 50 years old and over the past 3 years I've lost 60 pounds.  I have approximately 15 pounds to go to get to my goal weight, body fat , BMI.

I have one son who is 28 ~ so am a empty nester ....

The past 6 months my husband and I have been eating "primal" and I've started at a cross fit gym in August ~ My body fat has decreased by 5% and I've dropped approx. 10 pounds.  Am at the point, where I need to tighten things up to get to the spot where I have hit my loss goal of 75 pounds and am maintaining my body weight....hence, the Whole 30.

For me, the change will be no Friday night "cheat meal" with a Vodka/ Seltzer, no more cream in my coffee or the occasional yogurt and piece of cheese, no more dark chocolate after dinner.  We had stopped the grains and processed foods, diet sodas, sweets  6 months ago so that hurdle has been overcome.  Believe me, I know how difficult it is to kick the grain and sugar demons....I had many "food" dreams during those first few months.

Maybe it will help others to see what a "typical" food day is....so here is yesterdays food:

    meal 1
    2 eggs
    3 slices nitrate free bacon
one small zucchini fried up in the bacon grease

    meal 2
    one can tuna drained
    one hard boiled egg
paleo mayo on the tuna and egg
roasted red pepper and artichoke hearts

    snack
    small granny smith apple
handful of mixed nuts (no peanuts)

    Meal 3
    pot roast
    sautéed kale
    brussell sprouts with crumbled bacon
apple sauce (home made, no sugar , just spices)

Hope this helps and that everyone has a wonderful New Years Eve!!

    Best
