    Hi All 
    I've just started my first whole30 yesterday so I can't say yet if this will help,  I do know that taking Remifemina, a German made herbal supplement (black cohosh) took my hot flushes from 4+ an HOUR to zero in 3 weeks, and this is just something bought at the supermarket.  But beware of black cohosh, make sure its the real deal as especially in Chinese herbal supplements other herbs can be substituted which can harm the liver,  I had an operation just before Christmas and my hot flushes have returned, about 3 or 4 a day and the same at night so I am also hoping to see improvements.     I am with the rest of you, peri-menopausal, 46 years old, hot flashes.  It would not be so bad if I was not so fat.  I am 5'2 and 175...fat!  I tell myself that I started W30 to get healthy, but really I did it to lose weight.  I recently moved 2000 miles to a much warmer climate and feel like exercising now, I work full time and attend grad school.  I ride my bike to work and back, 12 miles total three days a week and go to crossfit 4 days a week...I am still fat. I am hoping, hoping, hoping this will work..

    While I am not in "maintenance" at this point, I have spent most of my adult life either trying to lose weight or trying to sabotage myself to keep my "security weight". Funny thing is that I am very confident in every other aspect of my life.
    I finally feel that with my paleo lifestyle that I can change this yoyo pattern. I am happily married and have a wonderful supportive family and extended family. This is only my issue, they all love me no matter what.
    I am a survivor of sexual abuse as a child and have always felt that since highschool I packed the weight on to protect myself. I have moved beyond the abuse issues through much therapy and finding a man who loves and supports me no matter what.
    I really like the idea of starting to visualize myself how I would like to be now in hopes that I will be able to better adapt to my new body. I believe that with my slow and steady weight loss that will also help me adjust more easily.
    I honesly believe that if you do not deal with the issues that caused the weight to come on then it will not stay off, this is why I delt with those issue and learned to love and respect myself beyond the physical.

    Whole 30 - 8 Week Challenge UPDATE:
     
    I have always struggled with my weight as a child, going on diet after diet to lose the weight throughout my adolescence and into adulthood. I would lose weight, but then would gain it back, etc. (same ol' story, eh?)
     
    When I had my twins 11 years ago, I gained over 90 lbs and my body chemistry went completely whacko. I struggled even more to lose the weight, not having much success at all. The doctor's response at the time was, "Your body doesn't know how to lose weight right now." But they never offered any solution or help. I had hypertension during the pregnancy and it never went away afterwards, so they put me on blood pressure medicine. Then, my glucose numbers elevated and thye diagnosed me as diabetic and put me on metformin. 
     
    No matter what I tried on my own, nothing really worked. I was fearful to never be able to lose weight and would die an early death because of it.
     
    Then, back in May 2013, I read the book, It Starts with Food and it changed my WORLD! I learned the WHY my body struggled with losing weight and why I was feeling the way I did. Not only did it give me the information, but the science (in understandable terms) behind it. And, what to do about it!!
     
    I started changing my eating then and felt immediate improvements in my energy and mental outlook. 
     
    I began my first Whole 30 during an 8 wk challenge a friend of mine told me about. I ended the week before Thanksgiving. I got my blood work done the last day of the challenge. I also began doing Crossfit in June for increased exercise and have come to love it.
     
    Within 15 days of the Whole 30 challenge, I was taken off my blood pressure medicine because my blood pressure was 110/52 without my medication, which was a HUGE and welcomed surprise. About a week after that, I decided to take myself off of the metformin (without doctor's suggestion), which I had been taking for diabetes.
     
    So, here are the results...
     
    Since May (only 6 short months - when I first changed my eating habits):
     
    Weight loss - 30 lbs
    Down from size 24/26 to 18
    Cholesterol is down by 42 points and is well under 200!!
    Triglycerides are down 105 points - down to 94!
    A1C (3mo avg of blood sugar) is 5.5 down from 6.4 and in NORMAL range without meds!!!
     
    My doctor was THRILLED and has even removed my diabetes and hypertension diagnosis from my chart!! WOO HOO!!! 
     
    I am BEYOND ecstatic! Eating whole foods, eliminating processed foods and getting the body moving WORKS!! It REALLY matters what you put into your body. I am forever an advocate for healthy eating. 
     
    I am thankful to EVERYONE who has been incredibly supportive. I hope that my example can be an encouragement for others, as well.

    Im Laurel and I am tired of:
    being fat
    feeling ugly
    being exhausted
    feeling too fat to ride my horse
    I could go on....
     
    Like many people I have gained weight with age..I am now 46 and weigh 175 pounds...makes me almost cry to say and see that number...I have tried everything out there, I lost a lot of weight on the HCG, but gained it back...Ive tried pure Ketogenic diets, but really felt aweful!  I am really busy, Grad school, stressful job, moving almost 2000 miles...I need something different, I need to loose weight, and feel better.  I need to have more energy...So...I am here.I start my Whole30 the first...
