Well done everyone -  officially over the half way mark as I write this.  I don't seem to have any symptoms good or bad to speak of which I think must actually be a good thing i.e. that I'm experiencing no bloat/cramp/tiredness etc. So if that's what I get instead of tiger blood I'll take it.

    Have a great day

Here is what I am making this week.  If your interested I can send you recipes:

    - Balsamic marinaded grilled pork tenderloin with green beans and roasted fingerling potatoes

    - Barbacoa Beef Taco Bowls, fresh salsa, guacamole, red onion.  Maybe some cilantro lime cauli rice.... If I can remember to thaw out cauliflower!

    - One-pan ground beef and cabbage skillet.

    - Burgers, roasted eggplant "fries" with spicy mayo.

I am trying to economize and use things that I have in the freezer.  Hopefully my grocery bill won't be as humongous as last week!!

Well it sounds like you've had some great nsv's christine! Good work!
Day 13 - we're almost two weeks in! I faced a LOT of temptation last night. We ended up with suite tickets to the Garth Brooks concert in Houston. I tried to bring grilled ckn in with me, but they made me throw it out . I walked into the suite and there was a huge tray of fresh baked cookies (my absolute weakness, and one of them had Reese's pb cups and toffee - I die!). On a normal night I would've eaten two of them. But instead I got a plate of boiled shrimp and guacamole with as much lettuce as I could get (I was literally eating the garnish! Ha ha!) and drank water. I was so proud of myself as I walked out knowing I had overcome!!
Got up and walked the dogs a few miles this morning - about to go shopping for a date I have today. Eeek and yay!
Hope y'all have a great day!

Day 12 - supposedly the hardest days are behind us. It was a little easier to get out of bed this morning! No tiger blood, but definitely not sluggish, which was surprising to me because this time of the month usually completely zaps me.
Breakfast was good (spinach, sweet potato/sausage bake topped with 2 fried eggs and a dollop of mayo). Will need to pack lunch and dinner because I'm going to see Garth Brooks tonight! Yay!
Hope y'all have a great day!

Well, it's day 11 for me now and I feel great. I am also wearing skirt that was a little snug a couple of weeks ago but feels pretty comfy now; even though weight loss wasn't my main goal I'm not complaining. I went on a school excursion with my 6 year old and I seem to have picked up a head cold which is affecting my exercise routine but not my eating. I will have to find some new recipes for next week as I've been making huge portions of whatever I'm having to last me a couple of days but I'm a little bored of the same old same old so I'll be pouring over my recipe books for inspiration.
Keep up the fantastic work everyone,

    Hi Meghan
I'd say the snack of raw veggies may be your culprit, with the problem then having been exasperated by the almonds you've taken in place of meals. Both are know to be hard on the digestive system... Also hard boiled eggs can be tough to digest too.
Are you drinking seltzer by any chance as this can cause gas & bloating? Or is your water iced? It's always best to drink water closer to room temperature...
I'd give it a few days avoiding all of the above & see if it settles for you.
    Hope this helps!

It's great to hear all these positive stories!

I wish someone had told me before I started the whole 30 how easy it is to poach an egg. I'm not always a huge fan of eggs but I love them poached. Now I've been making them for breakfast and topping them with red pepper mayo (with a heaping side of veggies) and I love it!

I also just realized that I'm wearing a skirt that has a snap at the top that would usually pop open when I sat down. Today I've got a shirt tucked in to the skirt and I've sat down and gotten up several times and the snap stayed put. Small victory!

Morning y'all... I slept like a rock last night. I know I could've slept more, but I'm under a lot of deadlines right now - both at work and at home, so unfortunately more sleep isn't in the cards.
I did get 4 pans of veggies roasted last night, and did two rounds of protein on the grill, so at least I'm set in that department! I decided healthy food was the most important thing to take care of last night so it would be one less thing to worry about this week.
    Day 9... Let's do this!

Dinner was steamed green beans and baked chicken breast that I stuffed with a purée I made using artichoke hearts, parsley, and an entire head of garlic that I roasted.

You guys. You GUYS. I think I felt it. The tiniest little hint during my work out today. Tiger Blood. It was the tiniest little bit but it made me feel ferocious. I never feel ferocious!

The last 3 nights I have slept solidly, right through the night. 8 big hours (a thank you also goes to my 10 month old daughter for letting me ) This was a rare feat for me.

I am kicking temptations left and right. In-laws were with us all weekend, bringing with them their bagels and cookies and carbs and things that sat on my microwave all weekend and I did not touch one or even so much as glance at them. Win. Also, last weekend I baked a cake for our church potluck, and since we had leftovers that we could not eat, I plated the rest and sent them to my neighbours. Well, today hubby came home to find a plate of macaroons on our plate, waiting for us at the front door. We quickly threw them in a container in the deep freeze for the next time we have company (usually I'd down one of those bad boys, or at least lick my fingers when I was all done - not so now!)

I hope day 9 and 10 aren't as bad as they're supposed to be because I'm feeling really good right now

OMG! I took a photo of my belly this morning to compare it to my photo the day before I began and holy WOW! Am I allowed to share pictures or is that technically weighing myself?
Seeing this result made the struggles of this weekend SO WORTH IT! I truly considered quitting 3 different times this weekend, but my supportive family and friends would not let me. After seeing my first real NSV this morning, I am so thankful they talked me out of it.

I generally don't share, but if people ask, I say I'm eating meat, chicken, fish, lots of vegetables and healthy fats beacause I find I feel much better when I eat this way. If you're on your first Whole30, you could tweak this to say you're trying this nutritional reset for a month and see if it helps improve x or reduce/remove y health challenges.

Hi, Ava! Congrats on your successes so far.
Now about the vegetables -- google whole30 picky eater and you can find lots of past discussions on this with suggestions, but the biggest suggestion is that you stop thinking of yourself as a picky eater. You're an adult and you can choose not to be picky.
There are so many vegetables out there, and so many different ways to prepare them, you are bound to find some that you like a lot.
Think about the vegetables you don't like. How were they prepared? Is it that they were boiled or steamed with no added flavor or fat? Or cooked to the point they were soggy and mushy? Because no vegetables ever have to taste that way.
Most vegetables are better roasted. Try roasted cauliflower sometime, it's completely different than raw cauliflower or even steamed. Try zucchini chopped up raw in salad, and then try it sometime in this recipe: http://theclothesmakethegirl.com/2011/08/18/comfort-noodles/ It's like two different vegetables.

I am quite frankly amazing myself.  It is the end of day 6 and I am determined! Woo Hoo!

    My successes:
Had friends over to my house. Ordered pizza and breadsticks for the kids, picked it up, smelled it the whole way home and brought it into the house. Didn't eat a piece or even feel tempted too! Made myself a salad with shrimp and sat sipping my Lacroix while they drank beer and wine.  Tonight I went to a party to watch fireworks and ate a compliant dinner before and my good friend Lacroix was there. I realized this week that I am not really hungry. That has been an issue for me...I think. When I think about my old habits I would snack on sugary, crunchy, carb loaded snacks. Now that they are off the menu, it doesn't seem necessary to snack at all.

My biggest struggle has been eating enough vegetables and fruit. I tend to prepare the protein portion of a meal, love nuts and then fill in with veggies. I need to figure out how to be more successful with getting in more veggies. I am kind of a picky eater when it comes to veggies. I can only eat so many cucumbers...

Feeling great overall. A couple of headaches. I sometimes feel a tad feverish....almost like my inner furnace is burning.

Keep up the good work everyone.

    Ava

Keep up the great work, everyone!  We're over the hardest part.  I'm on Day 7 and just had a great 60 minute run - the first run all week that didn't feel sluggish.  I had so many endorphins kicking in during my run, I found myself planning the next race, and the next, and the next, all the way from 10ks to a marathon and maybe even a triathlon next year.  I'm starting to feel invincible (my favorite part of Whole30) and that is AWESOME.

My tiger blood is kicking in early probably because I have been done several Whole30's in the last year, and my eating has been OK in between… but when I start going down that slippery slope of old habits, it is time for a reset.  Stick with it, everyone, because good things are right around the corner!

Oh - but I was REALLY proud of myself last night too!
    1. At the bar and only drank water!
    2. Got to tell multiple people about Whole30!
    3. Made brownies for my friends in the band so I could get some of the baking supplies out of my house (I bake for people a lot). While making them I realized just how many bites, licks, tastes I take while baking/cooking. My impulse was to lick the whisk, lick the chocolate off of my fingers after putting the Reese's cups in the brownies, and to taste one as I was packing up. I didn't do any, but it really opened my eyes to some bad habits! Thankful for Whole30 for AWARENESS of nothing else!

Oh my goodness, last night turned into a CLUSTER! I went to a concert with some friends for one of my favorite bands, and randomly ran into another friend. As we were hanging out on the bus after the show, the friend we ran into (Tim) realized his car had been towed.
Without other options, I ended up agreeing to take him to get his car from the tow yard. Only they refused to release it because his insurance card doesn't have the VIN for his vehicle on it (company car thru a lease program, insurance covers anything he's driving). So after trying to find a solution for an hour, I ended up having to drop him off at an IHOP to wait for a notary. I didn't get home til 5am. Ouch!!!
Just woke up at 11 and had a compliant breakfast. Ready to tackle the day, although I'll likely need a nap!

I find that "happy hour" is just as happy and relaxing if I have a kombucha or an iced tea or a fruit infused water.  It's the part about sitting down with your spouse at the end of the day and taking a deep breath and just resting/being social.  It doesn't matter that there is no alcohol in my cup, it matters that we're still enjoying our time and decompression together.

Doing well today! I think it is easy the second time around because I'm not stressing about meal planning. I like the idea of Protein + Veggies + fat approach to meals. My last one my cooking self-esteem was hinder by my lack of following of directions or ingredients sizes (i like to eye ball) and things would turn out awful. This time, I'm now experimenting with seasonings and different type of protein and veggies sources. It is honestly making it super easy doing it this way with being a full time working mother of 2 small children. Now to get my children to eat their protein sources that is a different story... I'm still struggling with getting them to eat like this and finding myself making them something else. I don't want to do that. It has been a constant struggle with my 4 year old. My 1 year old is pretty open to trying new things.

Good morning Day 4!! Today stared off iffy. I turned off my alarm and meant to just close my eyes for a second. I ended up missing spin class. I was going to go for a run, but it was pouring.... finally got myself dressed and tried a body combat class. I am less than coordinated, but it was awesome! I am happy I didn't go back to bed, now my workout is done and I have the whOle day!
We are going to a Phillies Game today, which would normally mean hot dogs and beer.... But I planned ahead, found some compliant bacon and some Tessa Mae's dressing am making a big Cobb salad to eat at our tailgate. I am also going to get some Lacroix water and drink it from the can in a coozie! I have a Larabar hidden in my bag just in case the smell of hot dogs, nachos and Philly soft pretzels gets to me! I CAN DO IT!
I am marinading some chicken souvlaki to grill up when we get home, with some asparagus and fingerling potatoes. So that I am not too tired and cranky to think of dinner. All I'll need to do is throw it all on the grill!
I'm not going to lie, I'm kind of excited for today!! No kill all things for me yet... But it is still early
