    Starting January 2!

I was looking at the NiCola ones online - I've never tried them, and understand why they're SWYPO - but they look like they'd be a good option for those who are soda drinkers to keep soda off their "plate" post-Whole30. With no color or sweetener (including stevia, which I'm still skeptical of), these are much better than diet cola. I'm not much of a soda drinker myself, and have never been a big fan of sparkling water. I've been using La Croix to have something a little more festive to drink when everyone else has a cocktail or beer. I've found that if I have more than one or two the bubbles make me feel bloated and uncomfortable, so probably will be sticking to one and then switching to water with lime.

    Starting January 2!

My husband is doing Whole30 with me this time. He is usually pretty bad about eating real meals, and just snacks on not so healthy things throughout the day. Now that we're having these HUGE meals with actual nutrition, he says he's hungry all the time! It's strange, because we are eating foods that SHOULD keep you full more better than simple carbs - including protein and lots of fat. My best guess is that it's because he's used to constantly fueling with easy to access carbohydrates throughout the day, and maybe has even revved his metabolism. Regardless, he's the type that has trouble gaining weight/keeping it on so I actually suggested that he make himself a 4th full meal rather than add snacks, since the unhealthy snacking and forgetting to eat is the habit he really could stand to break. As for me, I survived two birthday parties yesterday without much temptation. I drank la croix/sparkling water because it's nice to be holding something at a party, and I will say - not a big fan of how it makes my stomach feel! Bloated and bubbly. I may need to stick to water. Here's my meal plan for the week... might be a tad ambitious! http://www.notesfromamessykitchen.com/2018/01/07/whole30-week-2-meal-plan/

Hate to say it because they look delicious, but your breakfasts are both SWYPO.

I was thrilled to find that my Trader Joe's carries it. Last time I had to order on Amazon - good fall back option!

I want a freezer full of fresh caught salmon! I never knew you could bake frozen! Do you just cook longer? Or different temp?

How's everyone doing? I'm still LOVING this food! I've been really tired, but never experienced "the hangover" on past Whole30s so I think it may be a bit of a bug/actually still recovering from sleep deficit over the weekend. I've gone pretty far off my meal plan, but it's worked out! Last night I REALLY didn't feel like cooking, but knew I'd run out of things to eat for breakfast and lunch if I didn't... or have to eat pulled pork for every meal . I made stuffed plantains instead of the full pastelon, which was easier but not quite as yummy. This morning I had a bit of extra time, so instead of the egg muffins I made portobello mushrooms, brussels sprouts, chicken sausage, fried egg and avocado.

Some Applegate products might be compliant, but if cane sugar is on the ingredients list that one isn't!

Yes, homemade cashew milk is definitely ok! Cinnamon is fine, but you can't use vanilla extract.

No such thing as "too big" - if you felt no need to snack, you've got it right! My meals are HUGE :-)

Personally, I think using almond butter to satisfying a craving is a bigger deal than eating a trace amount of honey you didn't know was in it. That said, it's day one so you may as well. I probably generally would just let it slide - I once had a restaurant serve me something incorrectly pretty far into a Whole30 and took a bite of brussels sprouts fried in peanut oil, and I didn't start over.

I forgot how much I love this food! Day one was easy peasy, but talk to me when the weekend comes.

Awesome job on day one! Dinner sounds delicious. It's not necessarily that fruit later in the day isn't okay, but fruit in the form of dessert like that definitely is not allowed. Fruit on your salad or in a sauce would be fine to have for dinner.

    Starting January 2!

Looking forward to starting my third Whole30 tomorrow! I'm actually really excited about it this time. It's been about two years since I've done one, and my habits have gotten very bad again and the weight is creeping on - Whole30 is really the only thing that gets be back on track. I love how mindful and empowered it makes me. The biggest challenge for me is always the social aspect - we go out a lot and eating and drinking is a big part of our social lives. My goal is to not pass up anything I'd do if I weren't on Whole30 - I think we'll find that it can still be fun sans food and alcohol. If anyone is looking for recipes, I just put together a round up of my favorites from over the years! Good luck everyone! We got this!

    Fogo De Chao

I am happy to report that I was VERY happy with my dining experience at Fogo de Chao! (And proud of myself for sticking to my Whole30 despite strong thoughts of "it's a special occasion, would a little wine and a piece of chocolate one day really hurt?") Anyways, I told our waiter about all of my dietary restrictions right away. He was very knowledgable and immediately told me what I could have as is (the Picanha, filet mignon, rib eye, top sirloin, bottom sirloin and beef ribs), what they could modify for me by cooking in only sea salt (the lamb legs, the lamb chop and the chicken) and what I should avoid all together (the parmesan pork loin, the sausage and anything wrapped in bacon). He made me feel completely comfortable asking, and even walked me through the salad bar to point out what I could have and what I couldn't. This was really helpful because I wouldn't have had any idea about a lot of the cooked and marinated veggies (for instance, the beets had added sugar but the zucchini and string beans were just in olive oil salt and pepper). Anything they didn't know (like does the smoked salmon have sugar? it didn't!), they found out the answer right away. All of the servers seemed to know my requirements, but all were very subtle about it. I didn't ask them to make chicken special for me (who wants chicken when you have lamb and filet mignon?!), but they made TWO batches of lamb legs with just salt and it was awesome! I had more than enough to eat, but didn't feel disgusting like I would after a heavy carb binge. I definitely recommend Fogo for Whole30 dinners out!

    Fogo De Chao

I did end up calling and speaking with the manager. All of the beef items are simply sprinkled with salt and pepper. The chicken and lamb, however, have wine or beer in the marinade. However, they said they would be happy to make those meats with only salt and pepper at my request. The sausage, pork and any of the bacon wrapped items are out entirely. We're still planning to go on Friday - no, I can't have the rolls or the caramelized bananas, but I bet we'll still eat well! Plus, gotta get out once in a while! I'll let you all know how it goes!

    Sweetgreen update

Bad news... I got the following response to my e-mail asking about how their proteins and cooked veggies were prepared: Response: "Hi Johanna! Unfortunately, all of our cooked ingredients have sugar in them... sorry about that :("

    Approved sausage?

What brand is the chorizo? I'd like to find that!
