    Any other Australians?

Day 30 today, 9kg down ( plenty to go still), which is unbelievable as i never lose weight on low calorie diets skin has cleared as has some arthritis and stiffness in my knee, which is unexpected. Have loved this diet and eating real food, planning to stay with it more or less, hadn't realized that dairy was such a problem until I eliminated it. Feel like I learned lots on how to eat. Grains, sugars do not tempt me at all. Everyone says I have a glow, and I'm feeling really good with lots of energy.

Hi Alison Jane, thanks for the link to Rachel's organics, I just ordered the coconut aminos and the fish sauce. Shipping is pretty expensive though, wish it were easier to find these products in store.

Youre right Alison, just re read the ingredients list and missed the sugar. Just wondering why they add sugar to everything! Anyway, thanks for picking that up. I believe there are fish sauces with no sugar, ill just have to keep looking!

    Mayo thread

Crunchylutheranmommy, you can substitute macadamia nut oil in the mayonnaise for the olive oil. It is milder, with a sweet nutty taste. The recipe is in nom nom paleo ( the book), but you could check out her blog for the recipe. Otherwise it's a simple substitution

    Any other Australians?

Hi Angie, I think chilli sauce is going to be challenging, at lot of Thai recipes and ingredients are loaded with sugar. I found the Ayam fish sauce is whole30 compliant, and so are the Malaya curry pastes that I've seen so far. Of course you can make your own too, but they re a bit of work. Still, I'm viewing this as a lifestyle change, and to not eliminate foods I love I'm prepared to have a go! Beware of 'natural flavourings' type labeling on foods, usually indicates a heap of chemicals.

Amount of Fat - what counts?

I like coconut milk with tropical fruit, avocado and olives in salads( and you can add extra olive oil after dressing if you are still a bit low, ghee melted on vegetables, and in addition to mayonnaise I also make avocado, basil and olive oil salad dressing from nom nom paleo, which is delicious, as well as her remoulade sauce ( mayonnaise, paprika, capers, pepper flakes) to go with steak or chicken.

    Any other Australians?

Day 10, my skin looks better each day and I am losing weight, my clothes are looser everywhere, finding the meals great, my only issue is trying to find some time to myself to have lunch at work, - impossible! Constant interruptions by people wanting things done. Ended up getting the protein part of lunch today at 330, had to abandon the avocado ( fat) and salad. Fortunately, not hungry as this diet is so filling.

It's my own cheat laksa. Fry 2T laksa paste in 2T olive oil for 1 minute, add 1 large can coconut milk ( Ayam is my fave) and 250ml chicken stock. Add 1T fish sauce, vegetables of your choice eg cabbage, snow peas, book choy etc, 1T lime juice. Simmer for about 5 minutes, adjust taste to balance sweet ( coconut milk), acid( lime), spicy ( paste) salty( fish sauce)just before serving stir in a handful of mint and basil leaves To serve, serve over uncooked zucchini noodles ( use a julienne peeler) top with cooked chicken breast ( skin on) roughly chopped. Sprinkle with fried shallots from an Asian grocery store. I used laksa paste from the Malaya, but there are plenty of good ones around. Let me know how you go if you make it.

    Mayo thread

Check out nom nom paleo, Michele Tam has quite a few variations on mayo. I'm currently enjoying her Louisiana remoulade, which uses mayo mixed with garlic, paprika, pepper flakes and capers. Great with steak or chicken.

    Any other Australians?

Hi, I'm in Sydney and started this on 28 Jan with some American friends after hearing them rave about how good they were feeling at about the 2 week mark. Day 8 today, and my skin ( rosacea) has cleared, and my clothes are starting to feel loose. I bought Nom Nom Paleo by Michelle Tam and it has been invaluable as most of the recipes are whole 30 compliant, and everything i have made has been great. I've learnt some new dressings and sauces and this has really helped to add fat and flavour . I'd previously been following a low carb lifestyle, so this was not a huge transition, apart from eliminating dairy. Its nice to have some fruit back in the mix.
