I would also work on embracing the body she has right now - as it is.
Basically along the lines of "It's not perfect - but it's mine - and I need to respect it" - Respect means no negative self talk and basically eating good nourishing food and just working with what's she's got for now.  It learning to appreciate what her body is capable of as opposed to what it looks like.
This is something I wish I had very much while growing up.
Best of luck to the both of you!

Eating whole, healthy, nutritious foods will never not work. You both might want to redefine "working" though as improved health, energy, mood, focus rather than just the laser-focus on weight. She's so young, as her hormones kick in she is going to likely experience some fluctuation of weight and body comp. Learning and continuing to eat nourishing food and staying away from garbage is her ticket to a balanced, healthy adulthood.

Immersion  is the way to go.. No need for room temp egg..  I use a wide mouth mason jar.. Leave the immersion blender on the bottom for a little bit then slowly pull it up… You can watch it coming together..  Doesn't take long at all… Takes longer to wash the stick blender than it does to make the mayo

wow!! That is amazing.  I don't think I ever even assumed more than 2 eggs is "normal".  BUT.... I have a HUGE goal to stick to the 3 meals a day format, which may involve eating more per meal to avoid snacking.

I wish this same visual could be created with other forms of meat, like chicken thighs (bone-in) and whatnot to know what your portion should be!! I feel the palm-size method isn't very clear for something like chicken wings/thighs/ribs... stuff like that.

Thanks for sharing the egg trick!

I feel like the book is so misleading because the recipe for scrambled eggs is 4 eggs and supposedly serves 2!!!

I DID IT!!!! I made homemade mayo!!!!! After a previous failure I was afraid to try again, but I followed CaGrl's advice as well as praxisproject troubleshooting tips (I thought I was failing at first but then added another egg, and the magic happened immediately!!!)

I used 1/2 coconut oil and 1/2 olive oil.

Now I'm going to google all the Whole30 recipes I can find that I can use this Magic Mayo in!

guys, sorry to be a rain on your parade person here...but: the Califa Farms Coffee Creamer is only just barely compliant. It's not a great choice on a plan where we want you to be eating real foods. Have you tried regular coconut milk or almond milk in your coffee? maybe one without six different additives?

you get to decide where to draw the line with this one, just know there are better choices you could make when you are ready.

Hi!  I have a 6 year old and a 2 year old who are on Day 19 with me and my husband.  I think it really helped in the 2 weeks leading up to our Whole 30, we discussed things as we prepared and cleaned all the non-compliant foods out of our house.  They went thru the "Kill All The Things" phase about 5 or 6 days in, but besides that they have been fantastic sports!  I found their appetites increased dramatically, and their acceptance of new veggies and other foods has been great.
I think it would work for your kids if it was something your whole family was doing.  If my husband was eating cake at the office, it might be tougher for my 6 year old to forgo cupcakes at school parties.
Also, if there's no PB&J ingredients in the house, there won't be sandwiches right?
My 2 year old is gradually eating more and different veggies, so I understand the "2 veggies" only thing.  They get over it.  She also likes her veggies with fruit in baby food pouches when we're out.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do!

We have been having "turkey dinner" for breakfast this week. I cooked a turkey for Canadian Thanksgiving and then put half the meat in a large baking dish, drowned it in the turkey drippings and then froze it.  Then, this week I defrosted and heated the whole thing up (no dry turkey, it reheated in a pool of its drippings) and we've been having turkey, mashed potatoes and roasted brussel sprouts for breakfast all week.  It's been quite delightful!

Ask them what people did before Heinz started pulverizing & fortifying rice and calling it "cereal" for babies? If someone has to "fortify" a product, perhaps we should just eat the things that come from nature already "fortified"?! Why do people think that pregnant women and their new children are community property? I've never been pregnant nor will I ever be but I always felt like that entitlement to comment would be something that would have me raging A Lot.

Not stepping on the scale is not a suggestion. It is a rule. Something that we have found to be important through experience with 1000s of people. You were not an exception. You short-changed yourself by weighing. You let the scale guide your behavior and you did not learn important lessons that you still need to learn. I am glad that you had a positive experience over all, but frustrated that you did not fully engage with the Whole30 process.

Ever since completing my first Whole 30 about a month ago, I've been noodling with the idea of hacking dishes from my food tradition to make them Whole30 compliant. And I've decided to do it! So for the month of June, I'll be trying out various Whole30 Filipino recipes and sharing them in my blog. Come visit! And maybe try some of the recipes for yourself.

I started today with mango pork tocino. It didn't suck, if I may say so myself.

I'll be posting links to new recipes in this topic as I add them to my blog.
