Gamma Rambo got a reaction from praxisproject in Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
I just found this thread while getting acquainted with the forums - I haven't started my W30 yet, but I did start a few days ago logging my joint pain, fatigue, and other symptoms every day so that when I do jump off the W30 deep end I can see exactly what changes.

I have struggled with fibro and CFS symptoms since I was in my early 20s but wasn't diagnosed until I was 42 (I'm 47 now). At one point I was on so many meds and so brain-fogged that I had to have my husband watch me take my pills to make sure I wasn't accidentally taking my sleep meds in the morning (and then trying to drive my car when the Ambien kicked in. It happened once. I survived by the grace of God, but it was terrifying).

About a year ago I purged almost all of the artificial flavors/colors/preservatives out of my diet and started eating whole real foods incl. mostly organic and local veggies and pastured meat and eggs. I have had massive improvements just from that and am off all the meds, but I am still in at least moderate pain every day, struggle with sleep more nights than not, and have a few days a month where my think just forgets how to brain. I thought that was as good as it would ever get without going down the crazymed path again - but now I am excited to find out if maybe I can improve even further by identifying what exactly causes all the inflammation I obviously still have in my body.

Made it through Day 5. I noticed today that my knees did not feel as stiff. I'd injured one last fall and it is still not completely healed but both knees sometimes feel stiff and get sore. Well today, they do not feel as stiff and I am wondering if that could be from the change in my eating. Carry on.
    Cheers

GTG, Physibeth - I will just keep them in my wall locker along with my "emergency protein" tins of sardines.

So, day four came and went and we feel mostly pretty okay. My husband's "tummy troubles" are gone for now and he enjoyed breakfast this morning as much as I did. This has been his struggle - he has been a breakfast-skipper his whole life. But now he's starting to enjoy it. I think it makes him feel a little pampered that I am willing to cook for him while I still have sleepies in my eyes and haven't had coffee yet.

I'm still feeling a bit tired and run down, but not at all as bad as yesterday. Whoo hoo!

    Day four log:

Breakfast - two small baked sweet potatoes with clarified butter, cinnamon, and nutmeg, plus 3 eggs scrambled with garlic powder and salt then topped with oregano, basil, and chives.
Lunch - leftover ground beef and mixed greens with ranch dressing (small portion, I didn't cook enough to have the right amount of leftovers, learning experience) plus celery sticks stuffed with tuna salad and a YAWP! bar (Coconut Chai flavor)
Dinner - Bo ate his "leftovers" from the breakfast ... actually his whole breakfast was left over, because he was too nauseated to eat any of it. I had a big pile of tuna salad on an even bigger bed of spinach and mixed salad greens.

Still not sleeping well. I guess it's reasonable that 30+ years of chronic insomnia isn't going to go away quickly with just a week of problem-food elimination. I did get Bo to turn the thermostat down to 68 last night, that helped some (at least all the times I woke up I was able to go back to sleep faster).

    Day 5 so far:
Breakfast - 3-egg omelet filled with fire-roasted tomatoes, seasoned with basil, oregano, and garlic powder.
Packed for lunch (and dinner) - ground beef with a little added liver mixed with more fire-roasted tomatoes, seasoned with oregano and cumin, plus butternut squash seasoned with clarified butter, cinnamon, and allspice.

I have two "quasi-challenges" coming up. Tonight I have to go straight from work to a ministry team meeting and won't be home until late - and the restaurant where the meeting is being held is a sandwich shop that doesn't have anything compliant on the menu that sounds palatable to me (a plain salad with no cheese and no dressing would be technically compliant, but not very filling  )

And then tomorrow night I am having friends over for dinner.

    THE PLAN:

For tonight, I just packed a double portion of my lunch - so I have enough beef/tomato mix and enough butternut squash for two meals. And if that turns out to not be quite enough to get me through, I added three celery boats stuffed with sunbutter. I'll just eat all of that before I enter the restaurant, and then have water with lemon when I get there. Luckily even though the meeting is held at a restaurant, there is no particular pressure to eat there - most people choose to, but some don't. Whew!

For  tomorrow night (entertaining) my menu is:

NY Strip Steaks (Bo is in charge of these, he is the family steakmaster!)
~and three of the nummiest sounding pages out of WF:
    Velvety Butternut Squash
    Coconut Almond Green Beans
    Berries with Whipped Coconut Cream

    Welcome to the W30!

I would advise you to try to avoid the YAWP bars as they are mostly dates (from what I can tell) and therefore sugar bombs. Especially if you are having sugar cravings. These are like Larabars and should be treated as emergency food. So it is ok to stash one in your purse for those "OMG I could eat a raw horse and I can't get my hands on any food" moments but don't plan for them.

Glad to see some starchy vegetables in your meals today...this will definitely help with the energy.

So far so good, Bo and I have very mild sugar hangover symptoms but not as bad as I expected (knocks on wood).

I did lose my temper a little yesterday with my assistant - a coworker was selling donuts for a fundraiser and stuck her head in my office to let me know. I was about to get away with the simple "nod and smile" but the corporal felt like he had to pipe in with a smarmy "oh, she doesn't eat anything good." The donut dealer nervous-giggled and looked confused, so I explained that I prefer not to eat processed foods. Confusion remained. She asked "is that like ... gluten free?"  I reverted to the nod and smile.

But then the Cpl. and his cohort went and bought their boxes o' stuff, and kid felt compelled to put three of them on a plate and come waltzing into my office to wave them under my nose and spout nonsense like "Come on, it won't hurt you, don't make me force feed you, stop being silly, don't make this harder than it has to be...."

    I snapped.

No, I mean literally - I snapped my fingers at him and said (in my rare but fun "cranky old lady" voice) ... "Okay, that is enough! What I do or do not choose to eat is hereby officially no longer your business. OUT!!!"

He left me alone for a few hours, and when he poked his head into my office again I was eating sardines. He started to open his mouth for commentary, and then his little lightbulb glowed and he shook his head and walked away.  Hurray, he can be taught!!!

Great to know there are others doing this at the same time as I am. Yay! Thanks for commenting on this thread.
I am a habitual and subconscious snacker and/or I love to chew gum, so it was interesting on this first day to notice when I was missing those things, not because I was hungry between meals but just because they are habits. I did nibble a little while cutting up our dinner salad - just popped an on olive and then a snap pea in my mouth. I'd had a workout and think I'd started getting hungry before dinner was ready. Otherwise I did fine today. Nice to "meet" you all.

At a recent visit to Stonewall Kitchen, I found this cool salad dressing container. I know some folks use old spice containers to bring their own dressing to restaurants - I just loved this product and snagged one. http://www.stonewallkitchen.com/shop/kitchen/cooks-tools/prep/600456.html
