I started my second Whole30 on 8/4 too!  I'm 42 and live in Wisconsin.  I'm in the middle of training for my third marathon and just returned from a killer vacation in Yellowstone - what better time to get clean!  I'm looking forward to the "clean" feeling and the additional energy (I'll need it), but am cautious of that sugar dragon as I've been hitting the sweets hard over the last month.  I think it's easier the second time as you know what your in for (good and bad).

You could also slap a nice fillet of salmon or steelhead on that salad and pick up a bunch of healthy fat that way, too.

I'm at day 12, and used dates during my long run (16mi) this weekend.  They were like heaven and I couldn't help but smile every time I had one (probably because I wasn't used to the sweetness!).  In the past I've also used dried apricots which travel well and don't bother the stomach.

I am a soon to be 46 year old who is 165 inches tall and weighs 145 lbs. On a doctor's scale I measure as being overweight by at least 6 lbs but I don't feel or look overweight. In the past 18 months I have not lost a single pound despite following Weight Watchers and also switching to a Paleo diet for the last 3 months. But, I have gained muscle and have dropped inches even tho' I haven't specifically measured myself - my clothes just fit better and are loose on me.
I decided to follow Whole30 to see if the scale would budge on me - I don't believe I will, but a girl can dream :-) I also want to get rid of my sugar cravings - I LOVE dessert and couldn't do without something sweet after each meal. Ever since going on Paleo I have found that it's actually not that difficult.I am finding it hard to kick my habit of snacking on nuts / fruit midday..that's one thing I hope to conquer in the 2nd half of this program.
I'm also doing it to give my husband company - he needs to lose 10 lbs desperately and is having a very difficult time with it. He's not much of an exerciser and so this way of eating will hopefully give him that kickstart he serously needs..
So, here's to a wonderful journey that I am determined to enjoy despite the outcomes. ..I will start logging my food to the best of my ability.

I know that this doesn't answer the original question, but I decided to stop using buillon cubes in cooking during the Whole30. Even though I didn't make any broth myself, just using salt and spices was pretty much the same as the buillon cubes.
...and as I was going to say that using vinegar could add to the flavor as well, I rechecked the book and my vinegars and son of a mother! Sulfites. Well, I'm not going to restart now as I'm already in reintro phase... Crap. Oh well.

    Hi Caryn!

I've run three half marathons in the past year+ (first one was eating a conventional wisdom diet of low-fat and lots of whole grains; second and third were eating low-carb paleo).

My favorite on-the-go fuel are pitted deglet noor dates.  I don't really use them for training runs, just during races for an extra boost.  I start eating them around mile 5 or 6, then eat a couple every 2ish miles).  I take along my fuel belt with a mix of water, juice from 1 lemon or lime, and some sea salt to help replenish.  I've completely sworn off Gatorade, Gu, Hammer Gel, etc.

    Best wishes with your running!

It gets better.  I am an endurance runner.  After starting paleo and low(er) carb, my quads felt like they were made of lead.  It took about two weeks to adapt, and now I'm running better than before.

lmnett reacted to NatalieBA in Working out at lunchtime - Confused about meals
I am a bit confused about the whole pre and post work out meals thing.
When I initially read ISWF I interpreted that this was only neccesary for like "elite" or competitive athletes or extremely high intensity workouts.
But after reading the forums here I get a different impression, maybe I misinterpreted, so now I need to figure out if I am doing this right.

    Here is my schedule:
I eat breakfast at 7:00 am.
I workout at either 11:00am/12:00pm/1:00pm, depending on my schedule and the classes schedule at my gym.
In the past I just eat lunch after working out. After reading these forums, I decided to add a hard boiled egg before i work out, which I tried today.
Is this enough or do I need to add more food?  Does the lunch right after the workout negate the need for the additional P-WO meal?  The Lunch is a regular Whole 30 meal with protien, veggies and fat.  Maybe a small fruit.

My workouts are typically a 45 minute class at the gym, tabata style cardio/body weight, book camp, 3-2-1 Strength/cardio/abs class, sometimes cardio class or I lift weights in the weight room.

I am so happy to find this out!  I totally thought it was my shampoo!  I hate that ammonia smell, but I had no idea why I have been getting it after long runs.

I'm starting today (21st) as well. I've decided to take control of my health. I've been Paleo before and failed as I had not formed the proper habits to stay the course. I'm excited to embark on this journey. My goals are to workout 3 days at the gym and 1 day at home each week, to eat 8 meals a week at the table and to lose 10 pounds during this Whole 30. Best of luck to everyone, whatever your start date!!

I'm starting on the 21st (today!) as well.  My first time with Whole30.  I'm in a little different place.  Maybe about 8 years ago, I took control of my life and began exercising regularly.  Since then, my eating habits and weight have cycled back and forth, but the exercise has always been there to help me stay on track.  After finishing my first marathon last year, I've had a little trouble focusing and my eating habits and food choices have been terrible.  And it's beginning to affect my running - the extra 15 pounds is hard on my joints, and I have little energy to put into the workouts.  Time to get refocused, and I think this 30 day plan will really help.  I'm hoping it will also help break a cycle that has led to increase migraines over the last three months.  I wish you and me both luck!
