Pre=prepared hard boiled eggs are my lifesaver!!

Today is a great example - rostered on to start at 11, planning a leisurely breakfast at the market and a spot of shopping before heading in.

Get a phone call at 6.45 to say I need to start at 7.30, someone is sick. I need to walk my dog, iron my uniform, shower and drive the 30 mins to work

Hard boiled eggs to the rescue!!! - grabbed three of them, a tub of cooked vegies  and a frozen container of leftover chicken curry and left in a hurry.

So ended up with a yummy breakfast on the fly and made it through my 12hrs.

I struggled with the template breakfast the first few mornings - pre-Whole30 breakfast would be yoghurt and fruit with a soy latte when I'd get to work.

My first breaky omelette with greens and avocado was so hard to eat, I could have done with a quater of it but I pushed through.

Since probably Day 3 I've woken up hungry and needed to eat within that first hour

I've even had leftover Tandoori Chicken and mashed veg for breakfast and it was the bomb!

    Hey Marcia,

Wow - i just had a look at your novel on Goodreads, it sounds amazing!! Added to the reading list

I read Words of Radiance by Brandon Sanderson, its a long awaited sequel to a new fantasy series and I had really enjoyed the first one.

I've always got at least one book on the go and love reading different stories regardless of the genre, i like them all!

It's actually been a bit blustery here the last few days though the afternoons have still had some nice sunshine and warmth to them, though I suppose I shouldn't complain when I look at your weather lately!! Soooo cold!

How did your roast chicken turn out? Ive just made a green curry with chicken and loads of veg and I must say it was pretty delicious - already looking forward to polishing off those leftovers.

Ive been making a couple of things in bulk (well 4 serves for 1 of me) so I've always got something to hand and then when I have the time just grilling some chicken or steak and cooking some vegies and so far so good.

I think that while Im still feeling tired at the end of the day my energy levels are much better through the day.

We had a ridiculous amount of stuff to do at work today and everything that could go wrong did - and yet I really felt like I kept my cool and wasn't overwhelmed or exhausted and I put in some epic hours with lots of physical work.

That's probably the area I see the biggest change so far, just that constant energy level and clear mindedness. I don't mind that I'm tired at the end of the day because I know I'm going to sleep well.

I bought a cashew butter the other day thinking to use it to make a satay, so far Ive just eaten a few spoons

How are you finding your motivation is holding up?

I hope that warm weather rolls in for you soon - Spring is my favourite season.

    Ooohhh...will check out the recipe!

    Thanks

I found compliant fish sauce on my third asian grocer visit - i really dont think ive ever looked at so many labels but man are condiments full of crap!

Axel was delicious!! A friend and I both just ordered sides (she's cutting out gluten and didnt want the bread) so breakfast was a poached egg, pulled ham hock, mushrooms and spinach.

Also had their filtered coffee black which was quite good. I dont think I could do espresso without milk but im not a coffee addict so im going okay.

I think its probably the easiest meal to have out without too many concerns

I have such trouble eating in the mornings. It makes me physically ill to force food into my stomach while I'm still waking up. But, I'm doing it anyway. Just finished Day 2. I hope my stomach gets with the program soon.

Hi Glory - Glad to hear your W30 weekend went well and was fun to boot!   I love to read...
What book did you pick up?   I just finished a great book  "life after life" by Kate Atkinson.  I really enjoyed it.

Yesterday I wrote you a long reply...and at the end accidentally hit a wrong key (delete/cancel?) and it vanished. ...at which point I said "the heck with it".   (It was probably too long anyway)  So I'm trying again today.

I had a pleasant low key weekend.  Had a great time Saturday night with friends for dinner. Went with steak, salad and club soda...  and only felt deprived for a moment when I spotted the creme brulee on the dessert tray.   The good news, I didn't order it.

It's Monday here. Have now been eating W30 clean for 8 days... That low grade headache comes and goes...eating half a banana helps clear it up.  I've also discovered Almond Butter - It's a new Fav. For motivation, I keep patting myself on the back and reading the It Starts With Food book.   I've also been reading "The Calorie Myth" by Jonathon Bailor. His book focuses on the positive hormonal effects of eating high quality food, covers similar material, and dovetails nicely with the W30.    I've also been posting status updates...to use as a daily log...but they don't seem to appear on my profile, only the current one.  Oh well.

Tonight I've got an organic Chicken roasting in the oven...and will bake some butternut squash.  My stomach is growling in anticipation.

It's summer in Oz.  How I envy you.... the temperature here dropped to low 20's Fahrenheit. BRrrrr. Spring here starts on March 20th...only two days away.  I long for warm temps and green grass.

I'm not usually so chatty - must be all that W30 energy

    Hi Guys,
I'm starting my first ever Whole30 on Monday 10th.
Very excited but also a little nervous - willpower has not been my strongest suit in the past!
My partner definitely needs to jump start his health and has committed to joining me when he gets back from overseas so hopefully that and my own positive changes will help me keep with it.
Am clearing out the pantry and hitting the Sth Melb market tomorrow with my shopping list and meal plan

My day 3 I had some energy issues yesterday and had a nap.  I skipped a planned workout for the same reason.  I told myself I can always do it today!  I think a key may to have some goals for the day but be prepared to push them back depending on how you feel.

I don't use almond milk on my W30.  However, I have used almond milk as an ingredient replacement in recipes that called for coconut milk.  In certain dishes the subtle coconut flavor it identifiable by me and doesn't fit, whereas my palate can always accept a mild nutty flavor to a dish, so almond milk works for me.

I used to take 4 teaspoons sugar and a good sized plunk of 18% table cream in spread over about 3 cups of coffee in the morning.  I tried coconut milk yesterday and liked it the same if not a little better.  The coconut oil would get a little expensive if used all the time!  I used to drink coffee as basically a cream and sugar delivery system but I don't think I'll ever go back after the W30 is over

Hi Glory - Thanks for your note... I was in OZ and NZ last yr for the month of Feb.  My first trip down under.  Loved it!
Well so far I've made it 2.5 days of my Whole30.  And am not hungry. And no food cravings yet.   I gave up cheese for lent (because I'm a cheeseaholic) so hopefully that craving passed before I started the Whole30.  Today I have a bit of a minor headache...probably sugar withdrawal. A piece of fruit might cure that.  I do have a sweet tooth.   Been getting all my Whole30 info off the website...and from the nom nom paleo site.  Oh...and I also ordered the Whole30 daily newsletter.  A lot of info to assimilate.  Ordered the book...but it won't arrive until the weekend.  Really looking forward to its arrival.  A friend here In MN did this...she just wrapped up her Whole30... feels great and lost weight too.   I'm hoping to lighten my load...and, more importantly, reset my metabolism.   So far things are going well...It's an adventure in good health and good eating!

Since our Whole30 journeys are running parallel (albeit on opposite sides of the globe. I'm in Minneapolis, Minnesota USA.) Let's stay in touch... and be Whole30 buddies.!?  Wishing you well on your journey!

Have been considering this for a couple of weeks...and visited the web site multiple times. Decided last night to Take the Plunge....and Jump in with both feet. It's spring. A time for renewal! I love the idea of a "body reset".  Started this morning 3/10.  Also signed up for the daily emails...and ordered the book.   It's official!  I'm in it...!!!

Okay... I hate getting told I eat "special food" or have special dietary requirements. I don't eat special food, I eat real food! Plain meat, fish, vegetables, fruits, nuts and eggs!

I find that argument hilarious too, I spend at most 15/20 minutes making breakfast, let's be serious it takes no more than 5 minutes to fry up some eggs. My roommate has been so bitter towards me throughout this whole process and she just can't understand how I can enjoy cooking everyday, waking up early (because I have gotten a great nights sleep) and cutting out some of my old favorite foods. She is always passive aggressively asking me things like, "Don't you just wish you could not cook today" and "How horrible is it to not eat cheese anymore, I bet you really miss it". Today after I weighed myself I texted her my results, she didn't respond and when she got back home with her staple take out meal breakfast, didn't congratulate me or say anything at all about my success. I don't need the applause, but I find it so disappointing that someone can't be happy for someone being healthy and completing a goal successfully, simply because their own weight loss progress is at a standstill because of their terrible eating habits. I am definitely going to have to learn to shrug things off, not everyone is going to be supportive in my life, but that's okay, I think having a hater or two is even more motivational!

Yesterday I was filling out the paperwork for a new doctor (I'm seeing an oral surgeon next week). One of the questions was "are you on a diet?". Am I on a diet? What kind of question is that?...and from a doctor's office, no less! I mean, had they asked 'do you have any dietary restrictions?' I would understand it. Way to perpetuate the 'diet' mentality...
I answered 'no' by the way because I am making the assumption they mean "are you eating in a certain way, temporarily" and I'm not, but really, anyone eating food is on a 'diet'. I can't wait to point it out to them when I go into the office next week. Yes, I'm going to be 'that' person.

Really, it should be the other way around: "Other than real food, what kinds of processed, artificial, homogenized, hydrogenated, chemical-laden, or hormonally imbalanced imitation food products do you consume?*
*Please attach another sheet if necessary."

    Hello Ladies!

I have to do a lot of intentional work to drink during the day, which inevitably leads to more liquid consumption in the later afternoon and evening (last night it was 3 cups of tea... that's it from 5-10pm).  Ever since Day 1, I have been up to visit the washroom at least two (and up to 4 last night!) times during the night.  Is this just my body getting a good 'ol cleaning out?  Is this weight loss?  Does everyone do this?  Will my body adjust?  I'm sitting here writing and I really should be in bed.. and I'm thirsty but really don't want to drink in the event that it leads to getting up again so many times!

I'm 51- gone are the days of getting up to nurse babies!  I need my beauty sleep!

    GG

.... and I just went to get a drink before sending it!

Mass prep is your friend! So are kitchen hacks. If you find a meal you like but it's too tricky, ask for tips to make it easier. Some meals are weekend ones only, but some can be every day with a few tweaks

Nomnompaleo taught me to roast two chickens at once (not really any more work than 1 chicken).
Slow cookers are wonderful things, but if everything comes out of it, you'll get sick of it, use it wisely, but not solely
Lots of things can be cooked in muffin pans to make them portable, but still nutritous Egg cups, sausage patties, veggie patties, salmon patties, etc. (12 in a pan is a whole bunch of meals for not a lot of work).
Review the time you spend food shopping - I now save time and money by getting organic veggies delivered (so I can use shopping time for cooking instead) and they're better quality than what I used to get before, some are even prepped for me

If you're getting ready to start I highly recommend the Well Fed cookbooks, they also cover prep as well as recipes (although I'm a much slower prepper than she is lol), she has some great time saving tips.

Hi all! Can I play too? I started my second Whole30 today, and could definitely use some buddies this time around. I did my first round last January (really, over a year ago?!). I had really great results, I felt great, and then decided I didn't need to be so rigid in my eating habits. Plus, I was going through a divorce and eating was a great comfort for me. I've since gotten to a better place mentally and am ready to embrace this as a life change. I miss how good I felt afterwards.

I got myself set up and ready to go yesterday. My biggest challenge is going to be eating at my boyfriend's house. He's incredibly supportive, but leans heavily on convenience and prepackage foods (Hello Schwans!). All in all, I'm feeling pretty good today, although tired. Hoping this passes quickly this time around!
