Carlaccini got a reaction from ocmomof3 in Bloated, looking awful, feeling low
    Clemency,
I hear you. I had digestive issues for a good 20 days. I am on day 28 and it has only been the last week and little bit that my gut has been reacting like it is really happy.
So it does come. I did not take any flora because I, like you, honestly thought that if I was eating good food it should iron itself out. Mind you my gut has always been somewhat erratic, so I figured changes in my diet would obviously take some time for my gut to re-adjust. Especially since I didn't consume large quantities of meat previously. (I was kind of a high carb girl)
So it does come, just be patient with your body. It is adjusting itself. After all Rome wasn't built in a day, so you can't expect your gut to re-adjust itself quickly when you are eating completely different foods than pre-whole 30 days.

Sorry to hear about your troubles.

Think about cutting out the fruit and the nuts.for a bit.  They have been know to cause a lot of diggestive distress for many (including me)

Also remember raw veggies (aka salads) some people have some diggestive issues.  For instance my body cannot break down raw carrots.  They come out the same way they went in (Sorry for my TMI).

That doesn't mean I don't eat salads or raw carrots.  I do - just not everyday.  I also find I have to consume a huge salad (think entire salad bowl) in order to keep satiated for hours.

A drop in hormones triggers a bleed. Think of the placebo pill in birth control - you stop taking hormones and the drop in hormones - progesterone specifically - triggers the bleed.
So what causes a drop in hormones when you change your eating habits? A lot. It's not just one thing. It's eating 3 meals a day. It's eating a balanced meal at each meal. It's eliminating processed foods that are rich in crap that confuse our hormones. It's balancing our cortisol and insulin. For some people dairy or soy contribute as they can confuse our hormones. Ultimately, though, the body is all connected and it's a combination of these and many other things that contribute to helping your body work how it's supposed to, with adequate levels of hormones to support health. A temporary drop in hormones is a sign that your body is adjusting accordingly.

The pill doesn't control your cycle - it just maintains your hormones at certain levels to override the rise and fall of hormones that naturally causes ovulation and eventually your period. When you start taking the placebo pills, your body senses the drop in hormones, and that drop in hormones is what causes you to start to bleed.
That's the same trigger that causes anyone to bleed - pill or not. However, when your own hormones running in the background fluctuate due to changes in food - which is one of the benefits of paleo, your body may sense the same drop in hormones and starts to bleed because that's how our biology works. In a cycle or two, your hormones should settle where they should be and there won't be a that drastic drop again to trigger a bleed.

I thought to post this shot of my breakfast prep this morning.  On the weekend I diced 5 bell peppers, 3# green beans, a bunch of steamed potatoes and some ham (note, the ham is not compliant but I am not on Whole30).  Now in the morning I just throw a handful of each into a frying pan with some fat, go blowdry my hair and pour a coffee and breakfast cooks itself.  Wash out one frying pan when the food has been plated and you're done!

Note: the ham is non compliant but you could do the same with cooked chicken, cooked ground pork/beef, chopped roast, chopped pork chops etc.  Repeat, the ham is not compliant.

Raemikky, the forums are a very supportive community and those that take part regularly thrive here when they accept the rules for what they are, and realize that the Moderators (and other knowledgeable members) are passionate about the Whole30 program, and want to see you complete a true Whole30 meaning you will get the best results possible, and sometimes that takes a little tough love.
Your initial post was effectively encouraging other members to break the rules, and whilst that might have been a rookie error on your part it had to be made clear for everyone that this is not allowed.
I'm sorry that you feel the way that you do, but perhaps once you get over the hurt of your ticking off you might give the forums another chance & find that actually they'll make your Whole30 journey a whole lot easier....

I like it! Sabrina and Josephine.

Hubby is drinking some of the kombucha too - this new flavor we can both drink straight which makes me happy. He doesn't drink it during the week but helps out so to speak over the weekends. I might have to get another fliptop bottle so I can make more at a time...or maybe not...decisions decisions!

Has anyone used kombucha to help their plants? I've got a couple of pots on my windowsill and the soil isn't that great. I'm wondering if the bacteria/yeasts in the booch would help colonize the soil and make it richer...off to research...

Karin ~ I've personally found that after 3 eggs, I can add as many more as I could stuff in me but they don't provide the same satisfaction and "appetite duration" as if I keep the eggs at about 2 and add a couple ounces of meat.  Maybe give that combo a try if the eggs aren't doing it for you?

I was the same..thinking 2 eggs where enough, but it wasn't. So I added spinach, and still not enough so I then had 3 eggs with spinach and what I love are the applegate chicken sausage was great! I also had a half an avocado and that did the trick! I was able to last until lunch time and I wasn't starving at lunch either! Sometimes it was a bit to much, but then I would pack the rest of my breakfast and had it a couple of hours later! Best thing I ever did was eat more for breakfast...it really set the day for healthy day without feeling restricted or hungry

You most certainly can. Also remember that you can't always trust your hunger signals while things adjust. But if you just can't eat anymore saving it and eating it as a mini meal is a great option. Your body will adjust.

Update: my refrigerated SCOBY has come to life, made some good booch, and given birth to a brand new lovely SCOBY. I'm about to bottle and do a second ferment with pomegranate juice.

I'm thinking about trying out juice for second ferments when the time comes. I always used whole fruit to varying levels of success, and it seems juice leads to better fizz. And me likey fizz. It goes better in the champagne flutes that way!

I was so happy to discover my little scoby last night had completely covered over the top of my jar and is thickening up!  I think she's almost ready to go!  So excited.

Aha little scobies running around the kitchen, playing with your spice jars and messing around.

Or you can just pour pure booch in a big jar and store it in the fridge to slow down the fermentation. When you would like to flavor - take it out and do the usual routine.

That sounds normal to me Carlaccini!  The scoby is the white thing on the surface and the fuzzy stuff at the bottom is yeast growth.

Hi There - I'm kinda late to this booch brewing party....  Been considering to start making Kombucha for a while.  I'm still not convinced that I have enough room to making it.... But with all the fantastic flavours I'm seeing listed here - I think I could get very excited about this....

Nadia - I read in a much earlier post that you have some Scoby babies.... If I make the decision to go through with this project would I be able to get some from  you?  I have a bit of a nomad lifestyle and live between Toronto and Montreal.  So I am in Toronto often enough (generally 2 weeks out of every month).  Plus I would like to get some possible pointers and hints if at all possible.

    Let me know.....

    Cheers
