Julie Quates got a reaction from Tom Denham in Applegate Farms response to Carageenan additive
I messaged Applegate Farms (awesome source for clean deli meat/sausage/salami/etc) via their Facebook page asking about the Carrageenan that is usually added to their lunch meats.
This was the response and I wanted to share with you guys. Maybe if more people inquire about it-they will be pused to resolve this more quickly. Either way I will support companies with great customer service and great quality products:
Gerry Clarkson, an employee of Applegate, replied to Carageenan removed?, a question about Applegate.
Julie thank you for your questions. Applegate understands that this is a sensitive issue and we are currently reviewing available alternatives to carrageenan and new recipes that would allow us to eliminate it. We'll certainly keep our valued consumers informed of our progress as we work toward a solution.

Great thread! I work for a food distribution company so everyone in our office is all about the food. People go out to eat for lunch nearly every day. If not they are sitting in a training or meeting eating catered lunch. I do a lot of the catering here and I used to partake in all of it. I gained way to much weight and finally had to say no. I also manage our 'Snack closet.' I used to eat cookies and a Twix bar for breakfast every morning. There comes a point where you just have to take the power away from the food and give it back to yourself. It's a struggle for sure but now that I'm on the Whole30 plan I'm finding my sugar cravings and desires are MUCH less which helps. People at work will usually never understand unless they are truly interested.

Laura B: Great suggestions. We were already blessed with a bright green KitchenAid mixer for a gift. It hasn't made it out of the box yet!!! Also were gifted an Excalibur Dehydrator that I'm sure will get used sooner than later.
The LaCreuset oven is on my registry! Hope I score that one!!

Thanks so much for all the replies everyone. I think our fat actually may have been too high. I don't need avocado with every meal. We've upped the starchy carbs in the form of butternut squash and sweet potatoes and that has seemed to help a bit. We will continue on with that. Also I think I was eating just too much food. Last night I tried to really slow down and chew my food and I realized that I was full from my big old salad before I'd even got to my main course. Eating less overall, a bit less fat and more starchy carbs will be helpful for us. Thanks again for these super helpful responses!

We've done just that and exercise or just being outside vs. my cubicle city does help give me some energy. I've walked twice this week and even did some squats with our olympic bar....starting small!

Hey everyone! Still great responses on this. I do think its a bit of the ketosis with increasing my protein. I rarely wear any deodorant but do wear Crystal (its a wet roll on) and the stick crystal thing (which is strange). I've noticed that when I put Pumpkin Pie spice in my coffee i can literally smell that smell within an hour. Maybe it's just coincidence but maybe I've got a sensitivity to a spice in there.
I'm going to try some FunkButter. I want to smell Yummy again!

Julie Quates reacted to Karen in Any women charting or using Fertility Awareness Method as birth control?
I am, I am! I swore off hormonal birth control almost 4 years ago and jumped on this. I'll admit I still use condoms all the time and a diaphragm when close to ovulation, but if I were in a more serious relationship, I'd probably ditch the condoms. I have a good friend that's successfully used the FAM with only condoms when she's close to ovulation, and it's worked for the past 4 years since her last kiddo was born. (She got her husband to buy into by having him record her temp every day so he could see it in action!)
Charting is absolutely fascinating, if you ask me! Once you get into the swing of things, you'll wonder why this isn't taught in schools or passed down from generation to generation - you'll learn so much about how the body works! My cycles were really irregular for a while (this has mostly resolved since treating my thyroid properly) and temping allowed me to see the changes in my cycle with each treatment. It also allowed me NOT to freak out about pregnancy when I had a 180+ day cycle because my chart showed me I never ovulated, therefore I couldn't possibly be pregnant. It's also interesting to see how my cycle changes with the Whole30 - it always delays ovulation for me.
As for tips, find a website to help you track - it'll calculate your cover line, predict when your period will start, etc. I use the free one at TCOYF, though it has a few bugs in it. I know a lot of women prefer fertilityfriend.com. I have a digital basal thermometer but am thinking about switching to an old-school thermometer. DON'T use a 10 or 30 second thermometer - those are just for fever/no fever. My sister used one of those for months and it had her convinced she wasn't ovulating! When she switched to a basal one, voila, it revealed she was indeed ovulating!
    Good luck!!

Julie Quates reacted to SarahEmily in 100 Days of Awesome "Whole 100" Group Log
I'm probably the youngest one here. My name is Sarah, I am 22 y's/o. I have t1 diabetes and Celiac disease (cannot tolerate gluten). I completed 17 days of a whole30 just before Christmas, but went off plan on Christmas and Boxing day. I plan to begin my Whole100 on the 1st of January 2013. I see others find keeping a food log a bit of a mish, I'm with them. I will try to post recipes if I have something tasty. I shall aim to post in my log on a daily basis.
    >My main reason for aiming for a Whole100 is to improve my health.
    >I would also love to lose some weight, but I realize that this will come slowly and I don't want it to be a big focus for me as I have had disordered eating in the past.
I have a few other health goals for 2013 which aren't entirely whole30100 related but I'm willing to bet the whole30100 will probably make these goals easier for me to achieve:
    >I want to improve my fitness by playing and getting better at at-least one sport during 2013. (I'm thinking tennis/badminton/squash as I've been told I have some relative talent with a raquet).
    >I want to be able to control my moods more in 2013!!! This is a big one for me. I want to stop taking my anger out on my BF. I inherited my mothers temper, and I tend to sulk/get grumpy over silly things. I know that i'm only angry at myself for whatever reason, but I always tend to take it out on my BF. In the end it's always me apologizing and feeling like an idiot. It really gets to me (and him) when I do this so I would love to be able to stop this silly habit. I think I need to do some reading on the subject and I am planning to read the book "Don't Sweat the Small Stuff (and it's all small stuff)". But any other tips would be appreciated! .... I know not strictly whole30, but i've read the whole30 can help with a lot of issues

    Hey ladies...
This is slightly embarassing but I'm wondering if any of yall experienced BO during your W30? I had been using a natural type deodorant (Toms, and then coconut powder) before W30 and never really dealt with bad BO (that I know of). Last night my finace was kind enough to tell me that I had BO! Bad! I have a terrible sense of smell so I'm sure I had smelled funky all day. SO...embarassing.
Is it my body detoxing or something? Will it go away? I'm going to be more aware this week and will use my Tom's a couple times a day. It has tea tree oil which helps with bacteria growth. I'm NOT a heavy sweater but suppose there's been a lot of dietary changes lately. Also been doing hot yoga which is all sweat!
    Any thoughts on this?
I'm really trying to avoid Anti-perspirants as they have aluminum in them and have been linked to all sorts of nasty stuff like breast cancer. Plus...I don't think that keeping your body from detoxing via sweating is a good thing anyway. BUT...I don't want to be the smelly kid! UhhH!
    Thanks!!!
