Hey all. I don't know if anyone is still here. I had some crazy stuff come up, including one that required replacing the cable modem. Anyway, back from my vacation. I made it to your day 30, but not my extended. It was just too hard on the road and in other people's homes while out of town. I'm going to have to do it all again to figure out my triggers anyway. I just didn't have the opportunity to plan reintroduction. Anyway, while my fatigue never completely went away while I was on Whole30, I'm realizing now that it was much improved. I wasn't falling asleep while reading to my kids or yawning through my afternoon at work. I think next time I'll go caffeine free, too, just to see if that makes a difference. I'm going to pull out my calendar to figure out a good time next weekend, but for now, bring on the coffee - black! Congratulations to all who made it! Good luck to all who plan to try again! For the record, I lost 8 lbs, as well, though that wasn't my goal.

Thanks! Now that we're near the end, I finally have the books! Lol! I'm still here! Glad tomorrow is Friday, though weekends have gotten harder, not easier as week days have. Pizza has been a thought on my mind, too. Has anyone found a reasonable alternative to kick this craving? I mean, it's really just a few more days, but just wondering. Probably hard without dairy or a dairy substitute... Good luck for this final weekend, everyone!

Hey all! Happy birthday GrannieD! You are better at this than I. As I begin to plan for my next Whole 30 (what, am I crazy???), I am trying to avoid my birthday, the kid's birthdays, the holidays... I managed to keep it together through some other children's birthday parties, but I don't think I could do it with my own. Too many of our favorites all in one place. I do think I'll be better at planning these, though. I'll make sure there are more healthy options and be able to eat in moderation the stuff that's really bad for you. Speaking of which, the search for bacon was well worth it! Those burgers were delicious! So glad I have 3 left! I think that I could eat something like that instead of straight bacon and end up consuming a lot less of the bacon in the end. That has GOT to be better than eating the quantity I do when we cook it up for the house! Also, not sure who mentioned it first, but I tried the spaghetti squash with marinara and sausage, too. I'm not sure I could eat it all the time , but maybe with the leftover sauce from now on... I pack my usual sauce with veggies, so with the squash as an option, it very nearly becomes a health food! Off to bed! Not well prepared for tomorrow, so getting up early. Think about where you were 3 weeks ago today! Wow!

I stand corrected (after a visit to Whole Foods where I spent too much on a tiny package of sugar-free, uncured bacon). I just read the Bacon Manifesto. Yesterday, I could it get to any the Whole 9 sites, so I took the word of another blogger who suggested that Whole 30 was nitrate-free. Nonetheless, since Gwaltey probably falls under the "factory farmed" category, I think I have the better option now anyway. I'm no longer all that keen on the idea of bacon by itself (or in the quantities I used to consume) anyway. Off to cut and freeze it for my burgers. :-)

Well, it was bound to happen - in trying all these new veggies, I have discovered an allergy. I ate 3 sugar snap peas and now I feel awful. Oh well, so much for variety. Any suggestions on the best way to cook them? Are they good in soup? (My allergies are all to raw fruits and veggies.). Thanks!

I used olive oil with my chili, but I also tweaked it because I couldn't find a compliant version of the tomatoes it called for. I used chipotle chili powder, in addition to the regular. Maybe the added "heat" made a difference? I also don't know if it would have tasted so delicious without the fresh tomatoes on top - but I usually top chili with cheese and sour cream. The whole thing was a big change for me. So, little story... Was thrilled to find bacon without added sugar at Walmart! Bought it without thinking, only to realize that it's got nitrates. Bummer. Threw it in the freezer and will be headed to Whole Foods tomorrow so my mushrooms don't go to waste. I guess if it looks too good to be true, it probably is. I rarely shop at Walmart anyway, but was short on time to get a birthday gift and thought I'd look, just in case. Oh well. On to day 20!!!

Sounds like I need to start the hunt for compliant bacon! I definitely need something new for next week! Think I'll make veggie soup this weekend with those bacon burgers. What's everyone else making this weekend? Still awaiting Tiger Blood, but I'm in need of a good night's sleep. I do feel better than before - more even in energy throughout the day, except always exhausted when I get home from work... Hanging in there with all of you!

HALF WAY THERE! So, I've decided on a few things: I will continue to prepare healthy breakfasts ahead of time. This starts my day off right and makes it easier to resist the brownies in the break room. I will have at least 1 Whole30 compliant day each week. This will probably turn into 2 or 3 with leftovers. I will continue to actively seek the healthier choices, where one is available (like the canned tomatoes without added sugar). I will honestly try not to eat junk "just because it's there." I will repeat this at least 1x per year (anyone else up for meeting back here the day after Memorial Day next year?) Also, my thoughts on camping food - you must do chocolate chili, if you haven't. I ate it with chopped tomatoes on top and a salad on the side. Also, sweet potato hash and fried eggs. Perfect for breakfast with leftover veggies from another meal. This is a new favorite in my house that will be around for many years to come. Boil up some eggs ahead of time and maybe make a yummy soup or stew to have your first night. Bone-in chicken is always delicious over a fire, even with just olive oil and salt & pepper. Good luck to you, but I think camping might be easier. The more I think, the more ideas I come up with. Another recent favorite is ground beef, turkey or chicken cooked up with peppers (multicolored), onions, garlic powder, salt and pepper. I douse it with compliant or homemade salsa and avacado. Add a veggie on the side and Yum! Happy day 16 everyone!

I was debating between cheese and wine to break the "anti-fast". Perhaps it makes more sense to start with something I haven't been missing as much, to avoid overindulging. I am also considering a SWYPO recipe, instead of jumping immediately into banned foods. I guess I'm likely to feel different 2 weeks from now, so maybe better off waiting to plan this... Shopping done. Tomorrow's plan: -cut up fruits and veggies for raw consumption -get pork butt trimmed, seasoned and into the crock pot -make sweet potato hash -make compliant BBQ sauce for pulled pork later -make breakfast casserole for the week (going to try the one with shredded turnips... A little nervous about them) On to day 13 (right? Losing track of days...) Happy preparation day, everyone!

Made it through another cookout! I think my final big challenges will come next weekend with back to back kid's birthday parties! Of course there are little challenges all along the way. Really wishing I could find some compliant sausage for some variety. Going to look into this nomnom pork. Also need to roast some veggies to keep on hand again. Raw is good, but roasted are so yummy! So, I have ask... Am I the only one who's already thinking about the end and what you'll eat first? I know I'm going to try not to splurge, but thinking about a good way to make sure I learn something from all this and determine where my true sensitivities lie. Some of it may be out of my control, since I won't be at home...

Tough day, but won't be beaten by myself at this! Must prove to myself I can do this! Day 10 is the day when it gets boring. The ease of a cheese stick or chips and salsa seems like just the thing and a glass of wine would go down so nicely, but I will not cave to laziness! Tonight I will get a good night's sleep. Tomorrow I will have salsa on my eggs and drink my coffee on the deck and all will be right with the world. Off tomake dinner! Happy Friday everyone! Only 2 left for some of you!

Love this group! Remember all, if you can't beat yourself up about your food choices, isn't that one less stressor, in the end? If you've read the timeline, you know that the best is yet to come! Keep at it because I want to hear how you all feel when you get there!

Amazing! I just left a reception with some very delicious-looking free food and wine. I wasn't even slightly tempted. I couldn't wait to get home to my planned dinner! Does anyone know if there's a printable version of the plate showing portion sizes? I'd like one to hang on my fridge as a reminder. I think I tend to do less veggies at some meals, but make up for it with others (mostly because of time). I'd like to even that out more. Thanks for the recipe suggestions. I have no special cookbooks, at this point. Maybe I'll see if there's an electronic version. Trying to declutter... Another positive to report before I sign off to get in one more veggie... My son started eating raw peppers again! They used to be one of his favorites, but someone must have convinced him he shouldn't like them because he's been refusing to try them - even the fun Today he asked for one of each color, then proceeded to eat them and have seconds. He's excited about the cauliflower soup, too. He requested it for dinner tomorrow. Love it! Great job everyone. We're coming to the hardest part, but the best part is on the other side!

Oh! Almost forgot. Lately I feel like I'm content with eating less food at a meal, yet I'm pretty hungry before the next one (oddly not as unpleasantly hungry as I used to get). Should I make myself eat more at meals or will that eventually pass? For example, last night I ate a whole yellow squash (medium sized) and what seemed like about 1/4 cup of chicken salad (not measuring) with pecans and paleo in it... After that I wasn't hungry for more, so I stopped eating. By breakfast this morning, I was really hungry and felt like I could eat a ton, but was happy with two boiled eggs, a hand full of berries and half of a small green pepper. Thoughts? Thanks all and good luck with the end of the work week!
