Andrea!  What a day!  I can't believe all the challenges you faced and how you handled them. Kudos to you, my friend!
@Hope4Overcomers, I've been reading along about your setback/restart. Are you glad you restarted? That would have been my suggestion, but everyone is on their own path here.  You'll feel so great when you hit the 30 day mark!
@Michele B.  my first Whole30 turned into a Whole 105. I was concerned about reintroductions, and when time came, I just didn't want to do it because I was feeling so good. I think it's good to have a strategy around re-introduction, but if you're feeling good and aren't ready don't force it
It's been a busy week for me of getting used to being an empty nester. My son is thriving at college, so that make my life so much better!  In addition to that, my husband and I have had a commuter marriage for the last 6 years, and we just moved in together for the first time a few weeks ago. Lots of adjustments all around!
My husband has done several Whole 30's with me, and agreed to do this one, too. That lasted about half a day, so I'm going it alone. It's helpful that he is grilling/cooking compliant items, but other than that, I'm on my own! When we leave for the cruise next week I'll be on day 21, so the plan will be to keep it going. I'll give them my food restrictions on day 1 and hope they'll be able to meet my requests.
My goal for the weekend is to get a walk in everyday, and to start unpacking those boxes from the move.
To the U.S. folks, have a restful Labor Day Weekend!

Wow! I survived Day 12! This week has given me A LOT of opportunities to make excuses and eat something I shouldn’t. Thursday night I had just finished dinner when a storm kicked up and before I knew it, my power was out. My dinner dishes were still on the table. I took my plate to the sink and decided it was a sign, so I reported the outage then decided to go to bed early (9:30 is VERY early for me).
I woke up in the dark with a dead cell phone at 5 am and got ready to go to work. The power company estimated restoration by mid day, so I dared to open the fridge quickly and get some leftovers for my lunch. I sliced a grapefruit and decided to stop for hard boiled eggs and black coffee for breakfast. After I made it to our 8:15 staff meeting I realized I had left my lunch on the kitchen counter (40 miles away). I worked through lunch then stopped before my 4:30 appointment for something from the grocery store salad bar, but by the time I got through the line, I didn’t have time to eat. Picked up my son, got him a couple slices of pizza, came home. Power still out, so I fed the cats, grabbed my lunch bag and my kid, and decided to drive 100 miles to Ikea to get some things I need for my classroom. By that time we were in a crunch to get there before closing, so I just drove. And ate a large piece of baked chicken like it was a donut - picked it up whole and just took one bite at a time - no fork. I must’ve been quite a sight! Another black coffee on the drive home. Now after 19 hours on the go and about 300 miles on my car today, I’m about to go to bed. Tomorrow we clean and get ready for school on Tuesday. Sunday morning we drive to the beach to spend a couple of days with friends. Tomorrow I get to figure out what to take to make my time there easier.
I have been dieting off and on since I was 6 years old. (One diet I remember was the “You Can Do It Kids’ Diet” and they offered a fat camp for kids whose parents could afford it. Luckily mine couldn’t.) I have never been able to resist temptation like I am on this program. Our PTA president made a beautiful breakfast for us yesterday. I looked (just in case there was anything compliant), complimented and thanked her, and walked away. From bacon, sausage, grits, French toast, and cheesy scrambled eggs. Y’all, I’m a southern breakfast girl. Maybe it would’ve been harder to resist if there had been biscuits and gravy. But it was pretty easy. And today, instead of dwelling on the possibility of losing all the food in my freezer, I focused on finding the foods I needed to get through my day.
I am also feeling more relaxed than I have before about school starting next week. Maybe it’s because I’m returning to the same school after getting bounced around my first few years. Maybe it’s because I am off the sugar and processed crap. I can honestly say that i could foresee living my life mostly on this plan. Just need to mix up the breakfast, because eggs are getting hard to take.
I hope you are all doing well and that you sail through the weekend!
    Andrea

@Michele B. Oh how lucky to subscribe to a meal plan that is Whole 30-ish!
Here's my system for what it is worth.  I made a simple meal planner in the Pages word processing program, with "Breakfast, Lunch Dinner, Activities and Next Day Prep" as my column headings. My current week is below.
I went through the Whole 30 cookbook and filled in about a week's worth of meals. I searched online for some recipes that sounded good to me, and asked my husband's input as well.
If the recipe goes over well, (about 50% of the time), I'll add it into the rotation a week or so later. So far I haven't run out of ideas, but only at this for 12 days (5 days with my husband). I must say I am getting a bit fatigued of spending time in the kitchen and washing dishes.
I use the Pilot Frixion erasable pens which I love as plans change so frequently!
I'm also logging my meals under the Mandy's Whole 30 Log in that forum section if you are interested.

@LydiaJo so glad your knee is doing better. For all those parents out there my hat is off to you. It is really impressive on how you can do this and also make meals for family members who are not doing this. Well done for those who have kids going off to college.
I have successfully completed day 1. This is huge for me. In the past I would always find an excuse to push my start date back a day or 2 and then at some point before the week is over talk myself out of doing this entirely. I did complete 1 whole 30 in 2013 and then made it to day 25 in 2016. I am tired today and my brain is starting to fog over a little bit. I will be eating more than the 3 meals a day during most of this since I have gastritis and eating too much causes stomach upset. As I go on I hope to be able to get closer to the 3 meals a day.
I have some bieler broth and chicken broth defrosting for tomorrow in case I am feeling sick. I will be making more this week. I have duck, turkey, and chicken bones to create it - YUMMY I am going to make/prep more veggies tomorrow as well.
    Food today
B - eggs, bacon, asparagus, and watermelon (only ate 1/2 and saved for snacks)
Sn - 2 oz chicken, very small apple, with almond butter
L - Shrimp, mixed greens with balsamic oil & vinegar dressing, and remaining watermelon
D - Meatloaf, zucchini & yellow squash (chopped with nutritional yeast, salt & pepper, topped off with coconut flour and browned the top), sweet potato mash
The meatloaf was the amazing and I have attached my recipe. I need to make more starchy veggies so I don't have as much fruit for tomorrow. I put omit on the things that I didn't use but put it in there for those of you who can eat onions and garlic. Enjoy from case de Schultz
My one worry is that I always get really hungry at night. I always eat before bed so I don't wake up in the middle of the night hungry and not able to sleep. I need to figure out what is something quick and easy to grab out of the fridge in case I can't fall back to sleep. This week will definitely be a transition as I move away from it.
I hope everyone else's day went great.

Hello friends! I've been out of the mix, but following along all week, and have stayed on plan - today is day 7.
This week I spent two days shopping for college with my son, one day packing, one day unpacking/settling in and one day leaving/driving home. It's been a crazy, emotional week.  I managed stay on track, even at picnics and eating out. It was challenging at times, but completely possible. (My guide - can I have meat and vegetables? I'll be ok.)
Yesterday was the hardest, because I'm an emotional eater. I really wanted to jump into an ice cream sundae because I was so sad to leave him at school. However, he is doing great and loving it, which makes it all easier. I slept a lot last night and even took a much needed nap today.
I hope everyone had a good weekend! Week 2 tends to be easier for me, and hope it is for you, too!

@LydiaJo thanks for the tip on planning ahead - very smart!
@Mandy612 I'm laughing about the wine - it's bound to make a difference!  I usually find that I get Tiger blood sometime in week 2 - wait until you get that coursing through you!
I purchased the Whole30 Day by Day book today. I like the idea of having an extra shot of motivation each day.  My day 2 went well, although I had some snacks cravings in the afternoon.

Hello Friends!  I started yesterday, too.  I've done a few successful Whole 30s, but it's been a couple of years.  It's always easier when you have a gang to check in with, so I'd like to join you for the month!  It will come with some challenges, my only son goes off to college Friday, and my husband and I are going on a cruise in early September. I figured that should be an easy place to eat well, since they will cater to every food need  - we'll see!
My latest prompting to do another Whole 30 is that I've had poison oak and poison ivy this summer that will not resolve.  Whole30 has really helped with other skin conditions in the past, and I'm hoping this will help me kick it.
    Have a great day 2!

Had my first food dream last night. I ate a bowl of gumbo and then realized afterwards that there is flour in the roux and rice in the soup. I eat gumbo occasionally, but not frequently enough to even know if there is really rice in gumbo. I did not wake up wanting gumbo, fortunately, although it would probably be easy to make a compliant version! I hope you all have a SPECTACULAR Day 7 (or Day 2 for @Hope4Overcomers)! Almost one week done!

Kudos to @AndreaF and @Mandy612 for your planning strategies! Hats off to you both. My boyfriend and I happily went back to Day 1 today after living in learning from date night yesterday. I bought him the book Day By Day as well, to help him along the journey in understanding the program. He already has and has read the main book. We both remain psyched even though we’re back at “go”!

@Michele B. welcome aboard! So very, very, glad you have joined us! I’m a fellow sugar craving breathing dragon, myself! You are in the right place! I’m craving the sugar and grains even though I didn’t eat many grains. Day 5 for me. I am a bit fatigued and headachy. This is my second round. My first one was a grand success and I lost the dragon and gained Tiger Blood. I love the main book and Day By Day. They are great help.
You are in the right place and again, I’m so glad you’re here!

Hi everyone!  I started on my own on the 21st. This is also my first time every participating in a forum like this.  Glad to be here   I heard Melissa talking on a podcast and decided right then to do this.  I don't have a book yet, and I'm learning as I go. Fortunately, my diet is already somewhat clean, so I didn't need to do a huge kitchen overhaul. However, I'm a lifelong, die hard sugar-lover. I've known that I have a dependency and eat for emotional reasons, but nothing, EVER, has been the right thing to feel strong enough to redirect.  So far, so good. It's actually making me a little nervous that it's not been more difficult...waiting for the true cravings to hit.  Maybe just walking away from these foods entirely is ultimately easier than trying to still have "controlled" amounts.  We will see.  If there are any other sugar fiends on here, give me a shout.  I'd like the company!  I haven't told my family/friends that I'm doing this.  Somehow it seems easier to stay private with it for now.  Except for being here of course!  Good luck to all!

Isn't the Day by Day book the best? I normally write in the Five Minute Journal every day but Day by Day will replace that for the month. Love your breakfast @Hope4Overcomers !

    Greetings Fellow Whole30’ers!!
Whoot Whoot Day 3! I have a busy day but desperately need to get to the store for more supplies! What was that I read about being prepared before you start??? LOL!
Almost messed up Day 2 by being gone all day and ill prepared. I wasn’t counting on being gone all day. Prepare for the unexpected! Right??
This morning I’m sipping on some pure Earl Grey Tea. Had half an avocado, some leftover chicken, and veggies.
I’ve got my Whole30 book near me and Day By Day. I’ll read up and get a move on.
    How is everyone else doing????

I almost made it through my first W30 without a single slip and I gotta say that the one thing that helped the most was this forum.  There are so many experienced W30 members who can walk you off a ledge or get you through with great ideas and encouragement.  I suggest going through the forum in depth a little a day and read some of the past posts (especially the ones about illnesses and issues if you have any) because there is some really good stuff!

Hi everyone, a successful Day 1. It always feels easy for me day 1. Day 3 is when it gets challenging for me
One word about kids on Whole 30: the whole 30 recipes I make are my son's favorite meals. I don't force him to do Whole 30, but I also don't make multiple meals. There are so many good compliant recipes - I encourage you to try some and the kiddos may love it!

I had those Thai meatballs and chard in coconut oil for lunch. Made this pot of spaghetti sauce tonight to have on hand for tomorrow.  Alaska runneth over with zucchini right now so zoodles are happening.  Congrats to all on a successful day 1!

Day 1 down!! Heading to bed soon. Dinner was great!  Had the spaghetti squash, with hamburger and then top with the tomato sauce. Filling and really good! I pre-baked some chicken breast in some green goddess dressing and pepper. This way tomorrow's protein is ready and I can concentrate on the vegetable sides when I get home. I hope everyone had a great first day. Looking forward to tomorrow. Have to admit a bit scared that today was a fluke. I didn't crave a cigarette or an after work glass of wine to unwind. Tomorrow is another day and I'll face it then I guess. Well, goodnight Team Whole30 8/7 and lots of luck for another successful day tomorrow.

Hi all - I've done a few Whole 30's and had great results. I never did great reintroductions until recently, when I found that milk/cheese is a big culprit in a skin condition I've had for several years. Grateful to know what's causing it and that I can avoid it.
Yesterday I stepped off the boat in Amsterdam after a two week vacation to Norway, and today I'm back in the US and super excited to reset. I had some good exercise days on the cruise, but as you can imagine, the food part was terrible. Glad to be along with you for the month!
