Today was my first day and my 3rd W30. Been way off the bandwagon so expect to experience some serious suck. Sigh, oh well on my way to improved health and less of me!

Exactly what I was going to say.  He is going to get hit hard in detox so definitely take ladyshanny's advice and give him plenty of fat, salt, starchy vegs and lots of seasoning.  You seriously will have a hard time overdoing it when you use good fats.  Good luck!

    Hi Opsdiva,

Please don't beat yourself up about having to start over.  This is a life altering, life changing way of eating and it takes time and practice to get the hang of it!   And yeah it is really, really hard to go out to a restaurant or a social event during your first W30.  I just avoided it completely but that's me!

A great substitute for hummus is roasted cauliflower hummus.  I am completely addicted to it!  You can find recipes online.  I make a big batch every Sunday when I do my weekly cookup.  I use veggies to dip but dried apple chips are even better although you do have to watch the sugar content.

Have fun and hang in there!

    Hi Emily!
First let me say good job for posting so much. It really helps us help you and I know for myself it really helped to vent feelings, frustrations etc.
I also found myself at the grocery store almost every day and the cure to that issue is to follow Melissa Joulwan's Weekly Cook-Up recommendations in her book Well Fed. It Starts With Food also has the same ideas at the back of their book. Doing this ensures that you have easy and quick to prepare meals during the week. The key to success during your W30 is being prepared!

Welcome and great first step!   Keep in mind that your digestive issues may get worse before they get better.  It's all part of the healing process so please don't be discouraged.  Just keep on keepin' on and post your food logs on the site so that we can help troubleshoot.

    Best of luck!

I am very sensitive to dairy and noticed that when I added ghee to my diet some symptoms started up again.  So disappointing because I love the flavor but will only use it occasionally now.   I primarily use coconut oil and avocado oil to cook with now.

    Hi Kemeki,

Congrats on your decision to do the W30!  This is the first step to healing your body.  However your healing will be delayed as long as you include carrots, onions and egg whites in your diet.  There are so many other things that you can eat instead!  My doc once put it to me this way.  Every time you eat something that doesn't agree with your body, it's like banging your arm.  You get a big bruise, right?  Then you eat it again and you get another bruise and again and your get another bruise.  So the inside of your body is all black and blue from the food you have been eating and this creates inflamation which is the source of all disease.  If you want to see great results from your W30 then you must eliminate these offenders.

To help you meal plan I highly recommend Melissa Joulwan's Well Fed and Well Fed 2.  She lays out an easy way to get healthy and W30 compliant meals on the table every night.  I have also attached the W30 shopping list and meal planning template which must be followed exactly.  Buy what you can afford, there are lots of choices!

Melissa Joulwan's mayo recipe is the best I've found. It is posted on the W9 site. That said it does take a little practice to get it right!

I would seriously try to cut out everything that might be an allergen, as that's the only way you'll be able to isolate the things that truly are when you re-introduce them.

Yes, you may need more resources than the Whole30 protocol offers, but you can find tons of information about the AIP (auto-immune protocol) out there. If you can get your hands on a copy of Practical Paleo there is a full month's worth of AIP-compliant meals.

I'm not saying it will be easy, but it WILL be worth it.

I'm no expert as this is my first W30 but I say quit the nightshades for 30 days! I mean eliminating NS's could be exactly what you need but you won't know unless you give it a shot. Take a good multi-vitamin, you'll be just fine! All the best to you!

    Day 28
    Hooooooooray!
Still sticking to it and moving through the long days out in the world. Packed enough food for the day and a post WOD protein. My food intake is getting smaller, the first time this happened it alarmed me. Haha. I am a great big eater but when my insides get a rest I eat less and get satiated sooner in my meal. Pork butt on the slow cooker tonight, a carnitas recipe we will have to tag team. Clearly day 30 is insight but I am not interested in reintroducing or celebrating, yet. I am still working towards consistency energetically, i.e. hormones, and my total nervous system. I am in need of more time to be even. I really like what is happening to me, although detox is terrible terrible terrible some days. Today I got to work out after a 12 hour day and still report that I stayed on board. Great group and good work.
    Onwards!

Yeah, I'm finding the same thing. I've had a Lara Bar for breakfast the last two mornings just out of cooking breakfast laziness. For one they're not enough food and I'm starving by 10:00 and they also perk up my sugar sensors. Not good!
