    September 8th, anyone?

Second week of Whole 30 and I am trying to stick with it. The last few days I have felt kind of weak, light-headed, and shaky. I am wondering if I am just not eating enough food. I went grocery shopping today and am going to try to increase the amount of food I eat- especially the protein and fat, and see if that helps. I have had a busy few days and I am on call for two moms who could go into labor any day now. Being a doula and a midwife assistant does make this whole thing a little tricky. When I leave for a birth, I never know how long I will be gone for. Sometimes I am assisting a mom at the hospital and the cafeteria has some pretty decent choices but sometimes they are delivering at home and then my choices are limited to what I can bring. Still trying to work out a plan on foods to have ready. The last birth I went to I had grabbed my bag of pitted dates, a couple of hard boiled eggs, and some almonds. This was the third birth I had attended with this mom and I knew she had a history of quick deliveries. Thankfully, this one was also pretty fast and I wasn't gone too long. Not sure what I would have done if it would have been longer though.

I am still here! Just took a few days to disconnect for a bit. It is getting a lot easier, I am finding myself not even wanting some of the stuff that I ate before (most of the time). 1/3 of the way there!

Breakfast: Sweet potato w/ coconut flakes, sliced almonds, raisins, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, and nutmeg. Black Coffee. Lunch: Leftovers from yesterday. The 2nd half of my burrito bowl and some strawberries mixed w/ coconut flakes and sliced almonds. Snack: Two pitted dates Dinner: Scrambled eggs w/ sausage and roasted zucchini After dinner I also had a Iced Passion Tea, unsweetened. Feeling better at the end of today then I did at the beginning. Looking forward to a good night's rest and a fresh start tomorrow

Just saw the other posts that must have been typed the same time that I was doing mine. Didn't realize so many others were also dealing with the same things that I am. We can do this!

    September 8th, anyone?

Wow, this is a little harder than I expected and not in ways I thought it would be. As of now, I feel kind of weepy, sad and tired. Since I have struggled with depression in the past I have gone ahead and set up appointments with my counselor but I am also wondering if this could be part of the detox? It could also have something to do with the time of month that it is (sorry if that is TMI). Here was yesterday I had an early morning meeting so I woke up and had a banana and black coffee on my way out the door and to the meeting. After I got back home and the kids off to school I made myself breakfast using the leftovers from the night before. Shredded pork and salsa on top of two eggs. I also took half of one of the leftover baked potatoes and cubed it and heated it in the skillet with some salt and pepper. Was sort of like hashbrowns I guess. Lunch was chicken cooked in coconut oil; sauteed spinach, red onions, and mushrooms; and strawberries w/ coconut flakes and sliced almonds. I also had some herbal hot tea. Dinner was the first time I have eaten since starting the W30. We went to Moe's Southwest Grill and I had a "burrito bowl" with just steak, chicken, pico de gallo, guacamole, lettuce, and tomatoes. http://www.twogrand.com/food-journal/ms_quoted/2014-9-10

    September 8th, anyone?

Today has been hard. Yesterday I was around the house all day so had plenty of time to prepare meals but today I had a lot of errands and appointments and it was tough. I woke up extremely tired (we had a really loud thunderstorm from about 5a-7a so I didn't sleep to great) with lots of sinus pressure around my eye, a really bad sinus headache and a runny nose. My husband made me some coffee (which I drink black so I have no plans to get rid of it ) and I managed to {reluctantly} get out of bed. For breakfast I scrambled three eggs along with some onions, multi-colored bell peppers, and broccoli. I had a commitment from 9a-11:15a and then had to run to the grocery store for a couple things for tonight. We have friends coming over and I needed to hurry and get home to have the pork going in the crock pot for tonight's dinner. By the time I get dinner going, I only had about 20 minutes to prepare and eat lunch before running out the door again to make it to a 1pm appointment. So, for lunch, I ended up grabbing some leftover salmon from last night and putting it on top of a bed of mixed greens and baby spinach along with some capers, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, salt/pepper, and lemon juice. I finished that off and was still hungry so I finished lunch off with a banana. I usually try to avoid bananas since they make my throat itch but it was the easiest thing I could grab and take along with me that was compliant. I am back home now and can smell the deliciousness coming from my crock pot. Looking forward to tonight and some great carnitas "tacos". Oh- I am definitely not drinking enough water today. Really bad headache has continued throughout the day along with just feeling tired.

Thanks for the encouragement to stick with the plan! I enjoyed a nice hot cup of TAZO "refresh-mint" herbal tea when the boys got home. For dinner I had salmon, roasted asparagus, and a few slices of tomato with salt and pepper. Water to drink. I plan on having a cup of Chamomile tea before bed. Today went really well. Tomorrow we have another family coming over for dinner. I am planning on making carnitas tacos with lots of toppings (avocado, pico de gallo, olives, lettuce, onion, peppers, etc.) I will have corn tortillas, cheese, and sour cream for those who are not eating Paleo and either baked potatoes or a salad that I and the dad from the other family, who eats Paleo, can put our toppings on in lieu of the tortillas.

Glad to read everyone's updates on Day1! I think today is going pretty well so far. I did grab a hand full of honey nut cheerios while getting my kids breakfast ready and popped them in my mouth. Just as I was starting to bite down, I realized what I did and I spit them out in the sink and rinsed my mouth out. I felt completely silly and you would have thought I had stuck a bug in mouth or something I downloaded a fun app, called Two Grand, which is kind of like instagram but it is solely for logging your food and exercise. It has a social aspect as well, you can "follow" people and comment on their photos. I am "ms_quoted" on there so if you use it as well, find me! http://www.twogrand.com/ Today so far: Breakfast: Sweet potato topped with coconut oil, unsweetened shredded coconut, sliced almonds, raisins, and cinnamon. (super conservative with the almonds and raisins) w/ black coffee Lunch: Steak w/ sauteed spinach, tomatoes, mushrooms, onions and garlic. Water w/ lemon to drink. I am trying to figure out what to do when my boys get home from school. Our after school routine is to read a book together and have a snack. I could just make a snack for them and not have anything or maybe I could have a cup of tea instead. I could have a small snack myself (I was thinking a few dates) but I know snacking isn't too W30 of me. Hmmmm.... decisions, decisions.
