Here is a link to info that could help you plan some "go to" meals.
    http://whole30.com/step-six/
I know trader joe's has some compliant canned chicken, and I have heard that cooked sweet potatoes are yummy cold.  I have eaten almond meal coated chicken thighs cold, they are ok that way.  Maybe have some cut up veggies ready to grab?

Second week of Whole 30 and I am trying to stick with it. The last few days I have felt kind of weak, light-headed, and shaky. I am wondering if I am just not eating enough food. I went grocery shopping today and am going to try to increase the amount of food I eat- especially the protein and fat, and see if that helps. I have had a busy few days and I am on call for two moms who could go into labor any day now. Being a doula and a midwife assistant does make this whole thing a little tricky. When I leave for a birth, I never know how long I will be gone for. Sometimes I am assisting a mom at the hospital and the cafeteria has some pretty decent choices but sometimes they are delivering at home and then my choices are limited to what I can bring. Still trying to work out a plan on foods to have ready. The last birth I went to I had grabbed my bag of pitted dates, a couple of hard boiled eggs, and some almonds. This was the third birth I had attended with this mom and I knew she had a history of quick deliveries. Thankfully, this one was also pretty fast and I wasn't gone too long. Not sure what I would have done if it would have been longer though.

I am still here! Just took a few days to disconnect for a bit. It is getting a lot easier, I am finding myself not even wanting some of the stuff that I ate before (most of the time). 1/3 of the way there!

    Happy Day TEN!!!!!!!!!!

I'll be honest and say that the last 9 days have been some of the crappiest I've had in a long time but I feel a little glimmer of light starting to peek in.  Even today when I have wicked cramps and my whole body is aching....I can still feel the change coming.  My mind is clearer, I can feel a bit of energy starting to creep in and I feel like once my menstrual bloat dies down my pants might even be a bit looser.

Entering into this I truly thought that my regular habits were "pretty close" to Whole30.....but based on the NINE DAY HELLISH TRANSITION, I can for sure say that what I perceived to be true and the actual truth were considerably further apart than I thought.  I'm taking that as an amazing lesson in the ways that we can talk ourselves into and out of things and how we justify poor behaviour.

Onwards and upwards.   (and so grateful for all of you guys who post regularly and are honest and straightforward about how you're feeling....it's nice not feeling completely alone (or crazy!).

Hey everybody! Day 3 and I rocked it! Woohoo!
Breakfast was sautéed red cabbage in a dab of coconut oil with 2 eggs scrambled into it with a side of monkey salad (a sliced banana with some cashews and coconut flakes). Coffee with coconut milk.
Lunch was oven chicken fajitas with onions and peppers, kiwi, and some cashews.
Dinner is deconstructed tacos... Butter lettuce, compliant salsa which is more like pico, an avocado, ground beef seasoned with homemade taco seasoning, and Valentina hot sauce.
Need 20 more ounces of water to reach 100 ounces but that shouldn't be difficulty. Going to cook up a batch of the chocolate chili tonight for tomorrow and leftovers for the weekend. Plan to make a sweet potato soup on Friday night. It's starting to cool off here in Iowa so I'm in the mood for soups.
Heading to Chicago to babysit my 5 month old niece this weekend so I have a trip to Trader Joe's planned to stock up on a few items.
Took the stairs all day again today! Yay me! So proud of all of you for doing so well and dodging all the derailing temptations! I dodged cupcakes today. Gourmet cupcakes. Yuck.

Today has been hard. Yesterday I was around the house all day so had plenty of time to prepare meals but today I had a lot of errands and appointments and it was tough. I woke up extremely tired (we had a really loud thunderstorm from about 5a-7a so I didn't sleep to great) with lots of sinus pressure around my eye, a really bad sinus headache and a runny nose. My husband made me some coffee (which I drink black so I have no plans to get rid of it ) and I managed to {reluctantly} get out of bed.
For breakfast I scrambled three eggs along with some onions, multi-colored bell peppers, and broccoli.
I had a commitment from 9a-11:15a and then had to run to the grocery store for a couple things for tonight. We have friends coming over and I needed to hurry and get home to have the pork going in the crock pot for tonight's dinner. By the time I get dinner going, I only had about 20 minutes to prepare and eat lunch before running out the door again to make it to a 1pm appointment.
So, for lunch, I ended up grabbing some leftover salmon from last night and putting it on top of a bed of mixed greens and baby spinach along with some capers, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, salt/pepper, and lemon juice. I finished that off and was still hungry so I finished lunch off with a banana. I usually try to avoid bananas since they make my throat itch but it was the easiest thing I could grab and take along with me that was compliant.
I am back home now and can smell the deliciousness coming from my crock pot. Looking forward to tonight and some great carnitas "tacos".
Oh- I am definitely not drinking enough water today. Really bad headache has continued throughout the day along with just feeling tired.

Thanks for the encouragement to stick with the plan! I enjoyed a nice hot cup of TAZO "refresh-mint" herbal tea when the boys got home.  For dinner I had salmon, roasted asparagus, and a few slices of tomato with salt and pepper. Water to drink.  I plan on having a cup of Chamomile tea before bed.

Today went really well. Tomorrow we have another family coming over for dinner. I am planning on making carnitas tacos with lots of toppings (avocado, pico de gallo, olives, lettuce, onion, peppers, etc.) I will have corn tortillas, cheese, and sour cream for those who are not eating Paleo and either baked potatoes or a salad that I and the dad from the other family, who eats Paleo, can put our toppings on in lieu of the tortillas.

Loved that about the Cheerios! Also about feeding your dog French toast. I'm sure my cat would eat French toast if I offered it to her.
I had a muffin and hot chocolate last night. And cake on Saturday :/ anyways, here is to a new start. I'll look into the app!

MSQuoted  - Love that about the cheerios... Last night I was feeding the dog some French toast (long story) and there was a crumb of the French toast that I naturally picked up and put in my mouth.  I did the same thing (without the rinsing of mouth) to take it out of my mouth and give it to the dog.  LOL.  (I started yesterday because I did not want to wait another day).

Regarding your afternoon activity with the boys including a snack.  If you are not hungry, then don't eat. Part of this plan 30 day plan (as I understand) is to break our old bad habits.

Enjoy a cup of herbal tea (they did recommend no caffeine after noon) or just some refreshing ice water.

I know I am doing my best to concentrate on breaking the bad habits that I know has contributed to the health state I am in and want to change.

    Good Luck!

Maybe that breakfast could be 2-3 eggs, 1/2 sweet potato (or a whole if it is a small one - sometimes the ones near me are over a pound!) topped with a tbsp of coconut butter or ghee and then a side of creamed spinach (made with a little coconut milk)?  If you haven't had coconut butter before... you are in for a treat!

I went through a creamed spinach phase... I would cook up 2 lbs of frozen spinach and let most of the water cook off.  Take it out of the pan.  Brown some onion in a little fat, add the spinach back in and then add ~1/2 cup of full fat coconut milk and a little bit of salt, pepper and nutmeg.  I'd always eat it cold because the coconut tasted sweeter to me that way.  That 2 lb batch would usually get me 4 side servings.

Just wanted to take a moment to encourage the first timers...
You CAN do this! Some important things that I've learned along the way:
    - preparation is KEY to success. Prepare food ahead of time. Pack more food than you think you'll need for work. Having healthy food ready makes it harder to make bad choices.
    - breakfast does not have to be Eggs. You'll find it really isn't weird at all to have dinner left overs for breakfast and it's so much more satisfying than cereal.
    - read labels. One little slip up with an unapproved ingredient can send you right back to day one. Not fun.
    - ENJOY! You will be amazed how good real food tastes, especially as you try new ways to cook them. Seriously... I never thought roasted Brussel sprouts would be one of my favorite foods.
    - don't jump on the scale until the end. Seriously, it's counter-productive.
I look forward to this journey with you all!

Welcome msquoted! I think you will love it. When I tell myself it's just healthy eating! The first time round I just kinda winged it... and for the most part it went well but there were some days that I definitely just reached for emergency protein and veggies with no real plan. I was just proud with surviving without going off plan, but I think goals will help reap all the benefits. Honestly, off plan for only 3 weeks and I have missed my whole 30 every day.
