    Kerbi got a reaction from h e a t h e r in September 8th, anyone?
Flora123 - I have horrible migraines - sometimes daily, I take topamax, Botox and something else just to control them. I have found them to be subsiding during this (although had two in the past week). I had the newer iud put in in June bc I hate the pill and this iud was chosen specifically keeping my migraines in mind (my ob and neurologist spoke and that's what they came up with, it's called skyla).
My ibs is better as well and that is also severe, I take some major drug for that too (and the drug is a miracle drug) But food choices always affect that. Ibs and migraines are connected but hormonal migraines are significantly more intense. I also have crohns though so it's hard to know where the ibs ends and the crohns begins
This diet has worked well for all my crazy symptoms

morning!  As I said this was going to be a week of iron will for me - I'm really trying.

last night was a huge challenge for me, I hadn't eaten well during the day (too stressful a day) and it was a potluck for open school night and let me say - these kindergarten NYC parents went crazy!  there was so much good food (I mean insane amounts) and the dessert table - inexplicable!   and 20 bottles of wine!!  Oh and I had to set up and clean up.  So I followed my friend's paleo husband around to see what he would pick and I ate two meatballs (possibly not 100% compliant but it was either that or faint - so those who want to throw me out I apologize but I had no other food with me (and it had been 6 hours since I had eaten and I couldn't leave for another 2)) and water.  So I may have eaten non-compliant meatballs but I didn't give in to the cravings so to me it was a win.

I still feel good and tonight I have to go out for Rosh Hashana dinner and talk to a waiter which should be oh so fun.  Since I didn't have time to cook I'll go to the gluten free place for lunch which makes compliant food and get a grilled chicken and cauliflower and I brought sunshine sauce and sweet potato from home.

Glad you liked the Green Chicken Heather - we eat it in our house normally!

    This! YES

    And...
I must admit that even though I know I am eating healthy I am sad to be missing PUMPKIN ALL THE THINGS season.  They had a gluten free baking mix at trader joe's that I resisted.  Thinking of trying to make a coconut milk and pumpkin sauce concoction.

Making green chicken tonight, thanks for the ideas everyone!

Jordanbrook - I totally agree with you - I've basically been watching foodporn all weekend and at night - things I don't even eat normally look good now (some show called carnival food - crazy).  Part of it is I just want to be normal again and part of it is just pure food enjoyment - I love cheese and sweets and I do all these things in moderation; and I want to drink a glass of wine with my friends  I spent far too many years being too sick to partake and now I can.  I think this was an excellent journey for me and I needed it but it is not a lifestyle for me.  I will lower my intake of everything but this strict lifestyle just doesn't work.  But it is great to reboot when I go crazy again like I had.  I think I will try to make these recipes once or twice a week though as a goal and bring lunch more often to work which was my biggest downfall before.

What I forgot to put in my post before was that my three friends and I have been having dinner before book club for three years now - through my crohns flares and everything and they all remarked that last night was the healthiest I looked in the time they have known me.

I haven't watched it but I guess I should - maybe Fri night I will.  We eat a pretty healthy diet, there is very little processed food it in (I'm a pretty big cook, I just have a big sweet tooth which has always been my issue).  This has been a interesting learning experience for me.  Some nights when I come home I can even eat my kids' leftovers bc they are compliant (wild fish or meat and roasted veggies) so I feel good about what we are eating in general, it really is about the sugar.

I can give my faves so far (not sure if anyone wants them but just in case)

grass fed short ribs (nom nom)
my sister's green chicken (nom nom)
    asian chicken thighs (nom nom)
turkey cranberry meatballs and czech meatballs (well fed)
chicken satay with sunshine sauce (marinade (if people want it I can come up with it) - sauce Well Fed)
    choc chili (everyone has that)
Mark Bittman's curry chicken with cauliflower (w/o chick peas) from Food Matters - this was actually a life saver bc it had everything - fat, protein and veggies

I feel sooo much better today.

I won't be going for anything beyond 30 but I may lurk and see how you all are doing.  I will me making recipes though and altering my lifestyle a bit.  I woke up feeling much more energized.  Last night was hard and great at the same time - went out to dinner with friends (very healthy friends, they ordered some apps (all healthy I just couldn't eat them) and I was nervous to order with my restrictions but I did apologetically and then the waitress said - "no worries, if listed the things I can't eat, we'd be here all night!" and then she and I chatted for a few minutes while my friends picked their wine.  Then at book club I stared down the cheese and homemade treats (some of you say you don't want it, wow and good for you - that just isn't me, I drooled all night) but didn't succumb.  Came home and made a baked sweet potato for part of my lunch today and fell asleep.

clothes are looser - day 16 is here!  on to open school night!! still need to try mayo and ketchup.  I know someone offered to list her dishes she likes - I would love that!

Morning!  This is a little long so apologies but maybe other people have felt like this?

This weekend was soo hard for me, I really almost quit.  Saturday was ok until the night  - I just lost it; I don't know what got into me.  I went out to eat for my anniversary (nothing crazy - we're putting that off) and I felt so constrained and bitter I just was miserable.  Then Sunday I felt horrible and spent half the afternoon in bed nauseous.  I was again ready to just be done and have some white rice to get rid of the nausea.   I also had to make nutella crepes for the kids this weekend and s'more cups for the open school night tomorrow and cookies for my husband and kids (torture).  Also this week will be a major challenge for me - I have to go out every night except the night I have to cook for 15 so I am totally stressed out and not sure how I will have time to prepare food for myself and 15 people and deal with restaurants (so basically I may have had a mini-whole30 breakdown) BUT I had marinaded some chicken in a satay marinade I cobbled together so I grilled it and had Well Fed's Sunshine sauce (I couldn't tolerate any veggies) and felt better (it was so good all the kids at the table (who were having my husband's tacos) asked me to make it for them later this week).  So after a rough start I am back on track (and the thought of failing really bothered me).

So the lessons learned this weekend - Well Fed's sunshine sauce and turkey cranberry meatballs (not together) were winners (and both approved by my 8 year old daughter).  And persevering through the really hard days is worth it because I felt good this morning.

I also spent my anniversary Sat night in whole foods at 8:30 with my husband and my 5 year old son (very romantic).  I think I owe my husband a very fancy dinner next month.

Exercise - I have yoga today as I have been doing every Monday.  That's about my limit this week with the Jewish holidays - sorry.

Book club tonight and meeting my friends before at a wine bar...ouch.

Sorry for the diatribe but I really felt like a whole30 failure this weekend

Kerbi - you did not quit, that is a success!!!

The emotional part of this process is so huge, and I really think it is not acknowledged enough.  We only get so many anniversaries in this life, and to stay compliant through one?  IT IS A BIG DEAL.

Laxmom- I'm not going to lie - it was a hunt.  I'm not sure where you live - I happen to live in NYC.  I looked in the suburban (westchester) whole foods where I did my Sunday shop before we all started and they did not have it - the NYC one that I went to this week did (I was so excited I bought two packs even though I live only a few blocks away) - I just don't like going there bc it's a madhouse (although I just learned it's open until 11 and so I can send my husband after the kids are asleep).  So I guess each Whole Foods is different - the urban ones seem better.
