    Hi everyone -

Well, I learned pretty quickly yesterday that my body is not going to handle gluten well after this Whole 30. I had saved part of the Apple Crisp that my mom made me for my birthday during the Whole 30, and had some of it on Wednesday night. By Thursday, my digestive tract was in disarray!! And, to top it off, I had two sips of my husband's beer (honestly - it was only two!) and I swear I instantly had a headache. So cross that option off the list for me!

I haven't really tried anything else yet though. I already know that most dairy is out for me anyway, so not even going to mess with that one. I've felt so good this last week (until yesterday) that I'm pretty sure this will be my way of life from here on out.

How about anyone else? Any success on reintroductions?

    Hi everyone -

Woohoo!!  Day 31 is here!!  Here's my numbers so far:  weight loss = 10.3 lbs. Lost 3" on my waist, 1/2" on chest, 1/2" on arm, 1/2" on hips, and nothing on thighs (boo).  What is interesting though - I woke up today feeling motivated and ready to take on the world (finally!). I think my tiger blood has finally hit!

My plan is to continue on like this, with the occasional glass of wine, and bacon!!!  How could I forget about bacon!! I was never able to find any in my area that was made without sugar, so excited to bring that back in. I would really like to lose another 30-40 lbs, so it will be interesting to see if any weight loss will slow after the first 30 days or if it will continue on at this pace.

We also have a new fitness challenge at work, so maybe that will help motivate me to kick in the exercise this next month.

Great job everyone!  So fun to see all of the inspiring results!!

Way to go laxmom!! Those are some awesome numbers!

fgermain - thank you for your post and insight. What a healthy point you bring up! It made me think last night also about why I'm doing this. Yes, weight loss is a great side effect, but should that really be the main reason?

I cheated and weighed myself this morning (only Day 30 for me  ), but didn't do measurements. I'll wait to post until tomorrow when I have all the info.

    Have a great Day 30!!!

I will be willing to post measurements and some pictures.  The before is a bra and panties picture...which I had never intended to post online, but I could consider doing so.  I'll do the measurements and pictures on Wednesday morning. I don't use a scale so I won't know what weight loss I had...but all my clothes fit better and I'm able to wear things that weren't even a wisp of a possibility 30 days ago, so.......................

I also would like to lose another 30-40 lbs to get back into a healthy BMI, so would love to continue the support that we've had here over the last few weeks.

    Hi everyone -

So glad to finally be able to catch up and write something on here. This has been a LONG, hard week for me. Lots of stress and work, and hormones all over the place which has led to some massive cravings unlike any I've had this whole time. I was so close to calling 22 days good enough, then 24 days good enough, and yesterday (day 25) was the biggest struggle of all with stress at work. But..I survived it, not beautifully or ideally, but stayed compliant and taking that as a victory!

My plan for life after this is to continue pretty much as I have now, with two exceptions.  1: wine. I just want a good glass of wine. 2: adding some natural sweeteners back in to foods such as honey, maple syrup, etc. I admittedly have a sweet tooth so this will be a big challenge for me. I need to put some parameters around this, or it will be out of control quickly. I'm ok without bringing dairy back, and I feel so much better without breads. I don't think the occasional bowl of rice is going to hurt me either.  But....I just really want a glass of wine!  I might even celebrate with that for breakfast on day 31!!! (HA - just kidding)!!

Stay strong everyone!  So good to hear how everyone's experiences have gone!

I hear you about wine.  My husband was drinking my favourite red wine last night while we were talking and it was so so so so sad that I couldn't have a glass with him!  lol.

I actually read about Melissa's latest Whole30 and she mentions that she often does Whole7s or Whole14s when she feels she needs a partial reset!  I think it's a great way to get your mind back on track, too.

I have been thinking about the end of this whole 30 as well. I am planning to continue through the end of October, because I haven't gotten all the results I was hoping for. I really was hoping to improve digestion and decrease inflammation.  I don't feel like either one has happened. My clothes are looser, so I'm very anxiously waiting for that 31st day so I can weigh myself and see the results!  I can't believe I managed to keep myself from checking at all this whole month!

I have way more evenly sustained energy throughout the day, which is huge for me. I sleep 90% better. I had insomnia for years before this, now I realize it was clearly something in my diet. Inflammation and digestion though... those are the areas I would lie to improve. Have you guys noticed improvement in either one? I'd love to her your stories.

Congrats to everyone who has stuck with this, through results that weren't ideal.  The other great thing I got from this experiment was sticking to my promise no matter what. It's pretty powerful to know that your word is solid; that you made a commitment to yourself and saw it through because you said you would. Knowing you can count on yourself is golden.

    Home stretch!!!!!

    Good morning everyone -

Wow - what a great group! It is so motivating to read other people's insights into what this journey is about for them. For me, I have also been on WW on and off for the last 11 years and have had success, but then gain it all back. I am finding that my body feels so much better when I eat this way. I am fortunate in that I don't have any major illnesses or aches and pains, but I just know my mental clarity is much improved when I eat this way. Yes, weight loss is a great side effect, but I'm trying not to focus on that as my primary reason for doing this. I have not seen "Fed Up" yet, but I'm thinking I will try to track it down this weekend. If it's anything like Food, Inc. from a few years ago, I'm sure it will be good and give me even more motivation to stay the course!

On another note, today is my birthday and the "old" me would like nothing more than to get a good bottle of wine and a big piece of carrot cake to celebrate. But after reading everyone's posts from the last few days, I'm going to stay strong and celebrate sometime after this is done. I'm looking at this whole 30 as a present to me for better health. Have a great day everyone!

Hey Kristinmarta ~ I'm going to be the one dissenting voice and ask you to google and read the article on Whole 30 Gone Bad (google exactly that, it'll come up...I can't copy and paste at work).

If you really are feeling like the Whole30 is stirring up disordered eating demons and causing masochistic tendencies...then it's worth it to you to take a look at the article and decide if your Whole30 is more hurt than help.

On the other hand, I would also caution you not to use "Gone Bad" as simply a convenient excuse to stop doing what is actually a very difficult and trying program.  If it really is "Gone Bad" then it's possibly time to stop.  If it's just hard and uncomfortable.....keep pushing on!

    Kristinmarta -

You mentioned that you went for some more tests when you were at the Dr office a couple of days ago.  Have you gotten the results back, yet?  Hopefully, you will see some positive signs coming from the inside of your body that will give you the encouragement you need to continue.

Stick with this until at least you get these results back.

The Whole 30 has a lot of good things going for it, but if the challenges you are having are not related to your body's response to the eliminated foods, then this may not be the answer.

Please continue to work with your doctor to help you.

My thoughts and prayers are with you.

I have a bit of a different feeling about Tiger Blood and I think that the Hartwigs might've discussed this but I can't find the article right now. I think sometimes people are doing the Whole30 and expecting the Tiger Blood experience to make them feel like a different person. I really think that the whole Tiger Blood thing is more about feeling like yourself and less about feeling like a wild animal that is able to conquer All The Things.
For me, I think I'm in Tiger Blood stage....but all it means for me is that my mood is balanced, my energy is consistent from morning until night, my sleep is between decent and awesome, I'm able to let small stressors roll off my back because my body isn't overworked dealing with booze and sugar. I feel......good. Stable. Consistent. Balanced. Well.
I still don't overly want to race out into the dark morning (or evening at this point) and run 10km, I would still rather sip tea on the couch at the end of the day and watch PVR with my husband. I'm still just me.....but I feel better...and the "better" is only noticeable because of the enormous bag of crap I was feeling like...but didn't even notice.
I would probably make the same suggestions to those having unchecked cravings.....get out the fat and start eating...the more protein and fat that you eat, the less room there is for cravings. Or post your food plan and ask for help from a moderator, it could be a really simple little fix that gets you over the hump into good-better-best.

Part of what I am trying to do is recondition my brain to what is "normal" for my body - as in what is best for it - and not what is normal as defined by the food industry. This journey has been a true educational experience and I am glad that I have taken on this challenge.
Watching Well Fed at this time was perfect as it really helped to hone in what is going on in the food industry to challenge me. It is really sticking with me and makes me sad that I bought into it for so long. I have to go back to cooking from scratch like our grandparents did.
After 2 weeks on the whole 30 plan, I canceled my weight watchers membership. I have been on and off weight watchers for 40 years. I started at the age of 11. Some years I would have great success, but the weight always came back and added more. Doing this plan has shown me why I have failed at ww for all those years. The processed food need to be eliminated and the reduction of fat to such low levels contributed to my eating more sugar which just created a terrible cycle. This also explains how I struggled to even lose a pound or two no matter how exactly I followed the plan.
I know that we are not supposed to weigh ourselves during this 30 days, but I was feeling different and I needed to know. I have lost more weight in the past 20 days than I have lost in 4 months on ww. My body is really taking to this program.
I feel good, less pain which makes me want to do more things. Allof this is leading to a happier person. So even if this is not Tiger Blood, it is a wonderful feeling that encourages me to continue.

Clairezip - I had a horrible, grumpy day yesterday too. Very short fuse for some reason and it just felt like everything was irritating me. But it does get better. On my first whole 30, I think the mental clarity finally set in between days 20-25. I keep waiting

Finally getting a chance to post something after the weekend. So good to read everyone's posts and hear about their weekends and sticking to the plan. We had a end of the year potluck for my daughter's softball team last night and hopefully managed the food choices ok. I had a burger (minus the bun and cheese) topped with onions and salsa, a huge helping of carrot sticks, and half of a brat. Passed up the pumpkin cheesecake, ice cream cake, chips, cookies, pasta salads, and caesar salad (figured I didn't know if the dressing would be compliant or not). The ice cream cake looked so good!! I don't handle dairy well even when I'm not on whole 30, so at least that was a good reason for me not to indulge.

Does anyone else watch the Blacklist?  So excited for the episode tonight. LOVE that show.

I can't remember who put out the challenge to exercise 3 times this week, but I'll be onboard for that. I did exercise the first week, and then I let that slip last week in favor of sleep.   Got up this morning and did my workout - one time done for me!

Have a great week everyone - day 15 and we're halfway done!!

I went to the sports bar I always go to for Sun. Football, ordered compliant food, wasn't too bothered being around all the other foods.....deep fried this and that.  I must say, I felt good not drinking also.  No "touch down" shots for this lady!

This morning I finally have a small victory. I work in the schools, and we are allowed to wear jeans on Friday. The last two weeks, my jeans have been uncomfortably tight to be able to wear.  This morning - victory!!  I can't say the fit is perfect, but at least I can wear them without feeling like I'm going to pass out a any minute!! That is my motivation for today!

Hope everyone has a great weekend and stay strong!
