No snow here but lots of rain.  I think I'll make some soup and mayo and plan menus for the next week.
Day 7 for me ( started on the 1st).  Pants are feeling a bit looser and my energy is pretty good however, I made the mistake of trying on clothes at Anthropologie yesterday.  It was almost as bad as weighing myself (scale is in storage for the month) from the perspective of being potentially discouraging.  Not sure what I was expecting after merely 6 days but whatever it was, it wasn't there and the body I had when I started was.   I had remind myself that W30 has worked for me in the past, I am not looking for the quick and temporary fix that calorie restriction will bring and regardless of that fact that I look the same, I truly feel better already.  I guess my message to myself and anyone else who is feeling a tad discouraged is...  just stay the course.  W30 works... just stay the course and stay out of Anthropologie for a while!
    Have a great weekend everyone.

Day 4 for me of 3rd W30 and feeling surprisingly good.  I recall feeling low energy the first few rounds as I stopped eating oatmeal, grains and gave up snacking abruptly.  I think the key to avoid hunger and weakness is to eat more at meals than you think you need.  If I eat my "usual" size breakfast, I'm hungry within a few hours.  Adding another egg or including soup from the day before or throwing in some butternut squash has helped satiate me this time.  Just a thought if you're feeling sluggish.
Phantommeb- vomiting definitely sounds like the flu and not detox symptoms.  It's that time of year.
Hang in there and if you need a tasty and comforting recipe to try  Melissa Hartwig's chicken cacciatore is delish!

Happy New Year everyone!  Started my 3rd W30 in 3 years yesterday.  Seems to be an annual tradition to help reset my body and slay the post-holidays-sugar beast. Though I have done the W30 before ( with great success I might add) I love trying new recipes and tips to mix things up and keep it fresh. Today for the first time I made egg muffin frittatas and they're delicious and I have breakfast covered for days. For newbies, Melissa Joulwan's Well Fed recipes are so tasty even the kids and husband enjoy!
    Great luck everyone.

    Hi there,
I started my 3rd W30 in as many years on Oct 1.  Glad to join you all on the forum.  I have found the support and accountability the forum provides, is integral to success (plus makes it more fun).  What I love about the W30 and why I come back to it is that I do not feel deprived or hungry, I enjoy what I am eating, the flexibility works for my busy-mom-of-three lifestyle and it effectively slays my sugar dragon (for a while at least).  I enjoy doing it in the Fall because I kick off the holiday season feeling good, looking good and being more disciplined about what I put in my mouth.  But, most importantly, in the Fall I tend to succumb to Seasonal Affect Disorder ( SAD).  Some may think of it as the "winter blues" but for me it starts in late Fall as the light shifts and days are shorter.  I start to feel low energy, anti-social, and apathetic in general.  It's like a seasonal depression.  I usually start feeling more myself in late Jan or mid Feb as days lengthen and spring approaches. It's almost as if I  want to hibernate, pull in, bake and eat carb & sugar laden treats all winter.  It has been this way for me for as long as I can remember and I have tried many things to try to counter these doldrums.  The W30 is one of the most effective ways for me to find balance and counteract the dark feelings I get during the winter. In the past 2 years while doing W30, I feel so much more positive, light in spirit and energetic.  It makes such a tremendous difference in my outlook and I enjoy the holiday season much more.  Four days down and so far, so good.
Looking forward to sharing this journey with you.

    Hi Everyone,
I'm late to the Jan 4 party but starting W30 #3 tomorrow.  Felt so amazing following my last one in September but holiday indulgences brought my sugar back to l big time!  Need a reset and this program just works for me. No reason to begin mid week other than I had a bug Sun and Mon and wanted to be in food prep / cooking condition to begin.  Boiled eggs, baked chicken breasts, made mayo and stocked up on Coconut Aminos.  I'm ready.  Looking forward to feeling good again soon.

The Hello Cravings video is hilarious!  Thanks for sharing Leeleego. Humor definitely helps!

    Hi Everyone,

I can't believe we are in the homestretch.  It finally feels easy to avoid sugar and non compliant stuff.  Deteremined not to mess things up at this point.
This is my second W30.  My first was exactly one year ago.  I loved my results the first time and I am feeling really great this time as well.   This way of eating works for just works for me.
However, THIS time... I will do a deliberate and conscious reintroduction following the recommendations in It Starts With Food.   The first time around, I ended up with a W36 and then just added things back gradually paying no attention to what I was adding when.  Though I discovered that sugar/baked goods and snacky carbs ( like popcorn, tortilla chips and dried fruit) are binge triggers for me, I am unclear on how diary and gluten effect me.

Prior to this W30 my energy was zapped and I was feeling depressed. Not sure if diary or gluten contribute to that.  I know sugar does.  I am just so grateful those feelings are gone.
Like AngieWG and AB_MN,  I do not want to wake the sugar dragon.  I am so much happier with it in hibernation.

Let's end this week really strong to maximize our results!

UGH! The grocery store! I was just there this morning and I know what you mean AB_MN it is crazy the amount of "food" that is out there that is so bad. I have to keep repeating to myself "I don't want that" as I go through the store. It is hard when you have to go to the middle aisles and get the not so healthy things that other family members request. It is getting easier to ignore the other foods because I am not craving them anymore.

I think I have decided to go straight to the two week reintroduction phase. I am going out of town for thanksgiving and I want to have that process over with so I can know what I need to avoid completely, if possible, and the other things that will probably be okay to indulge in over the holiday. I plan on sticking as close to the whole30 plan as I can over the holiday. I was then thinking about doing a short whole15 or 20 between thanksgiving and Christmas so I can be in better shape for the holiday and not wait until the first of the year to get back on track. We are staying home for Christmas so hopefully it will be easier to stay on plan than if I am travelling.

The whole reintroduction is kinda worrisome. Sugar is a big problem for me as well and it doesn't take much to make my body start craving it again. With the holidays coming up that is going to be even more of a problem. But knowledge is power. So now that I know how my body reacts to these things then I am better able to steer clear of them.

    Have a great week.

I am afraid of waking the sugar dragon.  He's hibernating.  Thinking even a piece of toast might awaken him.  Will be interesting re-introducing items.   My skin is much better and my stomach aches have gone away.  Wonder if that was dairy?  Anyway, let's try to enjoy this last week +/- and proceed carefully into the re-introduction phase.    have a great day!

    Good morning guys,
great to see we are still together on this journey!!

I'm still waiting for my Tiger Blood to come, but I can say I've already noticed some good changes in my energy levels during the day and I believe I haven't been feeling better because I'm only sleeping 6-7hours/night.
Besides that, I can say I've been happier. I catch myself sometimes doing some little dance moves (Oiii? That's not me!!!) and yesterday I went to bed feeling so grateful for my day even though it was just like the other Sundays. On the bad side, I still have those cravings!! All I wanted last night was a slice of pizza!!!

Thinking about the future I haven't decided what to incorporate to my lifestyle, I guess the introduction phase will give me some hints, but I'd love to go gluten free not because of the gluten itself, but because I tend to overeat breads, cakes, pasta and pizza.

Looking forward to hearing more from the other members.

    Good Morning Day 15!

It seems we are all experiencing some of the same challenges at this point, dining out, parties, baked goods temptations and food boredom.   Reading how everyone is facing those potential saboteurs is helping me to deal with them myself.  The forum is a critical element to success for me. Was the first W30 I did a year ago, is now.

Jeanie793- followed your lead on the chicken dish at the Italian restaurant in SF last night.  It was the Columbus Day Parade in North Beach so could not say no to pasta and pizza for kids and hubby.  I explained to the waitress I was off dairy, sugar and grain.  She obviously gets this a lot because she immediately suggested a sautéed chicken breast in broth with capers and lemon and lots of veggies on side. Stayed far away from the focaccia and tiramisu.  Felt fantastic when I woke up this morning.  No food or wine hangover!!

Tata- good luck with the new job today. Grilled cheese is a staple around my house so I know what a temptation that is!   Congrats on making a wonderful tomato soup to satisfy yourself compliantly.

A friend who is a nutrition/fitness coach told me to do the Whole30 in 3D with Desire, Determination, Discipline...  Discipline is the most important D from her perspective. As much as that word sound punitive, in this sense it's important and freeing.  It makes our choices in this process clear and easy. Not to mention the discipline it takes to say no thank you to things that looks so yummy but are not W30 compliant and t ask servers how food is prepared and to plan, shop and prep food at home in advance etc...

Thank you all for your shares.  Wishing you a happy and disciplined day.  After 15 days, we know it's possible.

    Greetings,

Well, day 13 in the books.   Feeling good but craving things like popcorn, cereal and snacky foods.  Find myself wanting to have a snack after dinner and between meals.  Have not been having snacks for the most part because I really want to break my snacking habit.   What's with my desire to out food in my mouth every time I walk in to the kitchen? As a mother of three, grade-school kids, I'm in the kitchen a lot!
Just aware of my tendency and habit of snacking throughout the day now that I am not doing it!

I hope you're all feeling great and ready to kickoff the second half.

jeanie793- love to hear what you ended up having at the Italian restaurant.  Having dinner in SF tomorrow night at an Italian place.  Was thinking about a seafood dish if available.

    Hi Everyone,

It's been a few days since I have posted but have been reading your posts for inspiration.

Jeanie- if you can go camping without eating smores and tortilla chips and salsa, I know I can navigate a weekend in SF coming up staying W30 compliant!

Susanyk- the articles you posted were extremely helpful.  Not sure how I missed those when I did my first W30 a year ago.  Thank you!

Hawk- timeline is great too.  I'm right there on day 11 feeling the food rut setting in.  Time to get creative and break out the WellFed cookbooks.

It's baking season and the temptations are all around.  Don't even want to mention what's in our house compliments of well-meaning friends and neighbors who love to bake.  I would dump it all but I have 3 kids and a husband who are not doing the W30 with me.  They're supportive but they love these treats.  Unlike me, they can have a cookie and call it a day.  I have trouble stopping at one, so slaying the sugar dragon ( or at least significantly taming it) is my intention for doing this W30.  So far, I have not been tempted.  I just feel too good after these 10 days to go down over a piece of banana bread.

Wishing you all well and I truly appreciate the helpful tips and personal accountability this forum provides.

    GO DAY 11!

Well, I made it through multiple parties this weekend at which great wines were poured and dessert tables were filled with incredible treats and no slips. I probably ate more fruit than recommended but given the gourmet cupcakes and homemade doughnuts, I feel good about it.

I really appreciate the moderator's reminder that snacking on compliant food is still snacking and if one is not hungry for food ( which I was not, but was hungry for something.  My habit is to fill the other hungers I might be feeling with food).   Anyhow, will be conscious of that moving forward and do the "hunger" litmus test of steamed fish and broccoli.

Mergethemagnificent, love the recipe suggestions.  I'm craving Fall things like butternut squash.

SarahR- WellFed2 is as good as #1. The Silky Gingered Zucchini Soup recipe is worth the price alone.

    One week down!  Congrats all!
