    Hello Team November!

Glad to see so many folks made all the way to Day30 - well done, all of you! As for me, I bailed on Day 22-ish - I had a huge work crisis boil up, then had a bad Saturday, & then had an accidental drive-by of my favorite pizzeria while I was super-hangry. Yeah, a well-reasoned departure.

ANYWAY, I still feel that I have learned so much from the Whole30. I'm still eating NEARLY compliant - even Thanksgiving was quite close (I made my cornbread stuffing because my brother begged for it, & he made a traditional apple pie). Now I'm still eating Whole30 breakfasts, generally Whole30 lunches, & maybe two-thirds Whole30 dinners. The major difference is I'm eating out occasionally without grilling the servers about ingredients. Oh, & I've had a few beers. :-)

I am definitely going to give the full-on, pure Whole30 another go, probably for Lent 2015. I will be SO MUCH better prepared for Round 2, because of what I learned from Round 1. In the meantime, I'm working on getting some more exercise into the mix - I've joined a swim team here in Denver (we did 3,200 yards last night - 1.8 miles!). I'm also increasing my repertoire of Whole30-compliant recipes - and filling my freezer with ready-to-go meals.

Anyway I wanted to come say congratulations to those who made it all the way through. And if anyone wants to do another one, starting on or about February 18, 2015 - I'm sure there will be a Forum thread! Hopefully I'll have as good as team as this one.

I think we should definitely keep the thread going (even though I'm a bit of a late comer).   I fully expect days 32-40 to be my most post-worthly.   Have you all read the tongue-in-cheek timeline from the whole9 blog?  http://whole30.com/2013/08/revised-timeline/  I didn't find it particularly accurate for the first few weeks, but now it's like they are watching me!  I literally had a co-worker say "28 is as good at 30, right?" because I didn't sign up for Monday's bake-off (I'm the office's reigning champ).   But more than anything I'm a little panicky about eating anything non-compliant.   I feel SO much better than I'm sure at least one of the "No!" items is something that I should avoid forever, but I don't know which one, and I don't want to jumble them up.

In other news - my father always said that it takes 21 days to make or break a habit, and I feel like I've just tested and proved that theory!

    Have a great weekend everyone!

Thank you all so much. I was just in shock when I wrote that earlier. I did not open any of hubby's chocolate. Stayed on track today. I think the sugar dragon is going back to sleep.
Heather I will be here unless there is somewhere else I should go. I am planning to do a gluten re-intro but I guess it's okay to talk about that here??
    Congrats DishE!

2babies2kids - so sorry to hear about the cat and that you had a yucky food day.
Dish E- that's great news about your cholesterol numbers. A real tangible benefit in addition to everything else.
Tomorrow is day 30 for me but I'm planning to continue a bit longer. Is anyone hanging around or should I try to find a group that is doing a second one? I've loved being part of this group and I'm worried that I'll get discouraged and give up if I don't have people in similar situations.
I'm so happy at all the successes we've experience!

    Hey peeps!!
Well, I finished my whole30 on Sunday, but just kept going, I'm feeling good so why not?
I ended up losing exactly 5kg (11lbs), thought it might have been more, but slow steady weight loss and an amazing feeling is so much more important to me at this stage! I don't notice my clothes fitting much different really, and silly me forgot to do measurements before starting.

I had some awesome news thismorning, one of the biggest reasons I started whole30 was to get my cholesterol down, and in just 30 days I have managed to bring it down heaps! Still a little above where it needs to be, but it is lower than it was even 2 years ago, and well below where it was in September. My Dr was so impressed, he thought I had seen a nutritionist (which another Dr had referred me to), however I said it was Paleo pretty much and he was so excited. Turns out he is really into eating this way, and even gave me some names of authors and book titles to check out. I think this is going to be my new regular Dr!!

I did accidentally have a bite of bread lastnight... was at a BBQ with sausages on bread and just took a bite without thinking... nearly spat it out! Swallowed that one down, then just had the sausage without the bread

I'm so excited by everyone who is keeping on going, I feel like I've made some huge improvements in the last month, and am very excited. I've got a Christmas party at work tonight which I was thinking I would drink at, but I just don't know if it is worth it - this is huge for me....!

Keep on track everyone, it is so worth it!

A huge CONGRATS to our November W30 grads: you guys are BRILLIANT!
A huge HELLO to our new starters: great to have you here--we're a jolly (and supportive) group!

It's been nice reading what everyone has been eating, I've not logged in days and days here (though I have been marking out on my pinterest boards here and there). Thanksgiving was a blast and totally whole30, bar the pumpkin pie I made for everyone else (and I had some fab pumpkin custard with coconut cream).

Fun story: Had my first food dream of this run last night. I was eating fairycakes (mini cupcakes) over the sink (I don't eat ANYTHING over the sink, weird!) as I was talking to my husband in our kitchen. And not just one: I'd had several before clocking what I'd actually been doing and was then saying "I had FIVE DAYS left!! WHY??" I woke up feeling rather cross with myself until coming to my senses completely. JUST a dream...haha

    Happy December all...

Ugh, I am such a head case today! I weighed myself, only lost ten pounds and was expecting to lose at least twelve. Then I started thinking, hmm, what if I went ahead and did a proper reintroduction now? And then do a full whole30 again in January? Now I can't stop thinking about all the things I want to eat! Like hubby's birthday pie.... Argh. I am worried that if I do try to reintroduce stuff it'll have a "what the heck" effect on me, and then I'll just go wild. Guess I need to just keep going as planned...

Josie, I'm so sorry if you think I was berating you! I wasn't at all! But as missmary confirmed, those foods are just not compliant. That doesn't mean you aren't doing awesome! You should feel successful for the healthy changes you've made, absolutely. But some people start over for accidentally tasting a food with one noncompliant ingredient. I wasn't sure what your plan was when you mentioned those foods. That's all. Best of luck, and I hope you stick around.

Wow, so I haven't logged in for a while, been busy cooking and sticking with the plan.
I'm so sorry to hear about the the people who have had to drop out, hopefully you can get back to it or find what works best for you!!

Last weekend was where I knew I would have some issues, going away for the weekend, luckily I was able to make a lot of our meals still, and chose really well while out, heaps of seafood and salads!
Everyone in the family has been suffering from a gastro bug, and while I thought I was getting it, it all seemed to pass really quickly without any real symptoms, I'm thinking the lack of grains/sugar/dairy may have just starved the bugs off in me....

Hope those of you in the USA had a wonderful Thanksgiving, and managed to stay compliant.
I can't believe I only have 2 days left... well 4 actually because I'm staying the plan till Wednesday when I get some blood tests done and see how I am really tracking before I think about re-introducing anything else

Keep going if you can, I'm feeling really great, don't think I've seen any weight loss, but the feeling I have and energy is a great start!

stravajunkie - I have the same exact issue with sugar!  I am never, ever satisfied when I eat cakes and goodies - it just sets off a non-stop sugar/carb fest.  I am going to try to NOT reintroduce sugar back in to my diet.  I may even ban fake sugars.  When I tried low-carb I ended up living off of cheese cake made with Splenda - not the healthiest way to eat:)  I am pretty sure that I would start the same nonsense if I could (I am planning to add dairy back in at some point - as of now I am trying to stay on plan past the 30 day mark.)

Jess - I always love your posts:)  It is such a shame that the worst of the U.S. (and I'm thinking of the stores and companies that promote unhealthy lifestyles) are making their way to other countries and obliterating all the local, unique shops and ways of life.  I still read Swedish magazines and I am so sorry to see ads for ready-made foods (although I assume the ingredients are better) and more and more diet articles.

This is day 24 for me and I am having the worst struggle with cravings.  I wonder if it is because I was exposed to so many pies and ice cream treats yesterday that my willpower muscles are fatigued.  I've also been grouchier that normal which may be normal holiday aggravation or may be related to my eating changes.  One of the daily emails talked about an extinction burst in the final days.....maybe that's what I am experiencing?

I did get a lot of praise for my "discipline" during Thanksgiving from extended family.  Unfortunately it was followed by the usual comments about how beautiful I used to be, etc.  At least my mother-in-law wasn't there this year.  She has absolutely no filter (and is obsessed with being thin) so it doesn't take long before she blurts out "you have GOT to lose weight" or even "I was looking at old photos and you were so gorgeous" followed by the previous quote.

Part of my "baggage" is not wanting to be the kind of person who obsesses over every calorie and perseverates about food.   And the truth is that I love, love, love to eat so it's not really in my nature to be "that person" anyway.  However, my relationship with food has been so unhealthy and really shameful (am I the only one who thinks a sleeve of girl scout cookies = a serving?) that I knew I needed to do something completely out of my comfort zone.  I'm actually pretty shocked that I've made it this far and how I am not constantly thinking about food.

Thanks for the yogaglo suggestion Heather. I will check it out.
Spent all afternoon feeling sorry for myself. This happens a lot when I'm trying to take care of myself. I get a good thing going and then this little voice in my head starts telling me I'll never finish this, might as well give in, I've made bad choices with my life and chocolate is the only thing I can count on to make me feel good. Wow, just writing that out makes it sound so silly! Another problem I think is the past three days I have eaten at least four servings of fruit per day, and that totally messes with my blood sugar. Need to stop that right now!
I spoke with a good friend today whose mom died about a year ago. Her mom was probably 60 when she died, but she did not take care of herself at all, in any way, for at least 15 years before her death. I don't want to be that way. I want to take care of myself. I want to live.
Tonight I tried a new recipe that was surprisingly good. It is Lemon Artichoke Pesto Chicken over spaghetti Squash. http://kosherfood101.wordpress.com/2014/01/08/whole30-day-3-dinner-breakfast/. I definitely recommend it.
Yesterday I made Creamed Spinach from Paleo Comfort Foods. It was alright. A new way to eat frozen spinach anyway.

It's been a few days since I checked in. I fell off the wagon at day 9 and restarted on the 14th. I didn't realize it until that morning butthe 14th was the one year anniversary of my father's death. I started this whole 30 because it was something that he wanted me to do and that we talked about before he passed away. Dealing with the dawning realization that it's been a year since he's been gone derailed me for a couple of days so yesterday was myfirst day once again.

am I missing something ???? I'm reading about how hard so many are finding it to cook. Is it because there is so much "fast" "convenient" packaged stuff in America that you don't peel and chop fresh stuff?

I'm not in the kitchen for very long maybe an hour to get dinner. the extra time I get in there is too make pesto, mayo and dressings- my food processor takes all the hard yards out of that AND I love going to my pantry and fridge eating stuff I've made not shop bought rubbish.

My go to meals when I'm tired after work or just want to eat but couldn't be stuffed cooking is steak and salad, with sweet potato circles (done on the sandwhich press= 3-4 mins) or chicken strips with steamed vegies or salad. all up less than 15mins and I'm eating the best fast food ever.
I can't tell you how much I love that thing- it's soooo quick.

Please don't miss hear me- I'm not being rude, patronizing ,glib etc I am genuinely stumped at the problem and therefore second guessing what Ive been eating and preping even though I know it's compliant

KTWalks- witch's brew- that's our family reciepe for luming and stubborn colds
fresh garlic and ginger- equal amounts=natural antibiotics
manuka honey (out for the mo)(it has healing properties)
                                         lemon and hot water

combine the lot and swig in a couple of gulps makes you sweat heaps but helps with that  razor blade throat and stuffed up nose

2babies2kidsmom: I have tried that. I think her skin looks better, she hasn't had any heartburn, & she herself said her pants felt a little bit looser. But I think she has unrealistic expectations of losing 30 pounds in 30 days or something.

She's also a very impulsive person, so by the time she gets home tonight, who knows? She may be fully committed again.

Welcome mangokat - I love your userpic! Speaking of staying positive, I woke up feeling much better this morning. Ate a good breakfast, popping along at work. It's bright & sunny today & warmed all the way up to 34 degrees F! I think getting out into the sun really makes a difference in my mood. I've already taken the dog for two walks  . I also did my morning yoga routine (I've skipped that a few times in the last week, when it was so darn cold).

I have to say - one of the most interesting observations I have made on the Whole30 so far is how hard it has been to refrain from alcohol. While I certainly miss my favorite junk foods, I have found myself craving a DRINK more often than anything else. I have had trouble with alcohol abuse in the past & it runs in my family, so realizing that alcohol still has quite a powerful hold on me has been disturbing. I don't drink that much any more (3-4 drinks a week), but apparently I am quite reliant on the drinks I do take! Very surprising discovery.

Has anyone else made any surprising discoveries?

I started the day with a Whole 30 win.  I grilled some chicken sausage for breakfast, found them pretty unappealing (and frankly kind of obscene as well) and thought "this would be much better with some mango salsa and then realized I had ALL the ingredients to make one!  Usually when I read recipes I have most, but not all the ingredients but now that I'm in my second week of the program I've started to slowly add the suggested condiments, herbs, veggies, etc.  I was quickly able to create the salsa and it turned my uninspiring breakfast in to a real treat (wish I could figure out how to insert a picture!)

As good as I am feeling about the program and sticking with things I am getting worried that I will be one of the people who doesn't lose any weight or inches.  I know we're supposed to be patient, etc. but there is absolutely no change in how things fit (tight) or anything else.  I know my body is adjusting and healing but it seems like I should have some physical change to celebrate.  I won't horrify you with what I was eating before )nor the massive quantities) but I used to start the day with a scone or muffin (or 2) followed by sugary snacks, followed by pasta and then non-stop coffee and goodies through the afternoon.  And (most embarrassingly of all) I would wake up in the middle of the night and eat candy or cookies.

Hmmm - reading what I've written I guess it's pretty obvious that my poor old body is desperately trying to heal:)

Super interesting.  I have always prided myself that "I can eat anything!" Nothing bothers my stomach, no food allergies, etc..  I have gone off grains and sugar plenty of times.  That's not that hard for me. Never been off dairy before; in fact I LOVE CHEESE!  Anyway, now that I am on Whole30 my so called "seasonal /dust/ mold allergies" are gone.  No more sleeping with kleenex next to my bed or needing water during the night for an annoying tickle cough (which I have year round).  I also have a herniated disc in my neck that causes inflammation that I can even feel externally.  Guess what? No swelling, no pain, no cough.  I had no idea what dairy was doing to me!!!

I have been having a little bit of food blahs the past couple days , wondering how I am going to keep rotating the same old veggies w/spices after Whole30 is finished and I want to continue most of the things we are doing.  I decided to experiment with at least 2 new veggie recipes a week.  Already feeling more motivated!

Day 13 here. Had the most uncomfortable bloated feeling in the middle of the night. Still not sure what I ate yesterday to bring that on. Would a whack of cauliflower rice cause that?

Anyway, besides that, still feeling good. I've cracked a new pace on the rowing machine - chalking it up to my increased energy level. Having lunch out tomorrow with my staff and am a bit worried I won't ask enough questions. Must not be timid!

I'm on day 11 here, and plugging along without falling off the wagon (yay me!). I have been craving fresh squeezed orange juice in a BIG way (not from a carton, actual squeezed oranges). I totally salivate for it, I have 2 glasses a day! It has curbed most of my cravings, and even lessened my coffee craving. I call my juicer my new coffee machine

I have that spiralizer too, and it is AWESOME. We have used it to make sweet potato pasta. Spiral a sweet potato, sautée it in whichever oil you prefer for a few minutes (you're not even cooking it, just heating it up basically), then top with your favourite sauce. Even my 7 year old likes it!

Well it's Day 13 for me in Oz, and wow, we are forecast to have a heatwave and I'm reading about all you Americans in the snow!!
Very warm here which is great for eating cold salads and leftover meats, but I'm not really interested in some soups and hot meals at the moment that I'd love to be cooking.

I'm having some success with the kids which is great, they have decided they want to start trying different things, and my 7yo says his tastebuds are changing! They have now decided that they finally like onion! If I can convince 7yo to try something then 5yo will just follow suit. Have had my hubby away this week for work so it has been great that they are not giving me too much grief about the food!

So not sure about anyone else, but my toothpaste is starting to taste super sweet! It's one for sensitive teeth and usually tastes horrible, but now it just tastes like a mouthful of sugar and it's not even like I'm eating it, just brushing my teeth!! lol

I'm starting to struggle a little with my food choices, feeling like I need more crunch, so I read on here someones suggestion of sweet potato chips cooked in coconut oil. We had that with dinner last night and it was lovely, had the kids fighting over the crunchiest bits too!! Anyone else got some more suggestions for crunchy foods to add? I used to have crunchy noodles in salads, crackers things like that I'm missing....
