Hey! That's exciting about your trip to Oz. It's such a big country. Do you think you'll try and cover a lot of distance or get to know one or two states? If you love getting off the beaten track I totally recommend my region - Blue Mountains, NSW. It's world heritage national park - it's a very mountainous region so the valleys are amazing. It's cold enough to snow in the colder months so be prepared for that depending on what month you are travelling. Let me know what you have in mind and what activities you like doing and I can be a bit more specific. How is your Whole30 going?

Hello Everyone! I'm in Australia and excited and nervous to start January 1st (tomorrow!!!!!!!!). I've done one Whole30 before and I definitely got some amazing results. If this is your first time - I can't wait to hear all about the exciting changes about to happen. I carried forward a lot of the things I learnt from my first Whole30 like: embracing fat; ditching the scales; and learning to read labels but I have let bad habits creep back into my life and I'm SO ready to ditch all that is not serving me for the start of 2016!

Current issues that I'd like to address:
Shoulder pain causing neck pain and tension headaches (inflammation methinks)
Clicking jaw (improved last time through this diet)
Low energy - lack of motivation
    Caffeine addiction
Poor sleep (waking up extremely tired and grumpy)
Breakouts on face, chest and back
    Brain fog
    Cellulite on thighs

My goal is to have consistent, radiant energy that allows me to nurture my relationships and fulfil my duties and passions; to be pain free; to have glowing skin, and to wake up looking forward to the day ahead.

I couldn't have done my last one without support so I'm grateful for this little community we can make online here.

Looking forward to hearing from you. All the best!

    It's Day 31 and I've completed my Whole30! I was 100% compliant (I believe). Hooray for me!
Here is what I said when I started on November 9th:   I'm doing this to help with my GERD/lose weight/eat more mindfully/identify food that nourishes me vs food that makes me feel less than optimal. So, any benefits in any of these areas will make it a success. I'm keeping my foods pretty simple and basic.    And here is where I am on December 9th:   Nourished and energized. It's the last day of classes (university teaching) and I know how I often feel on this day (like a puddle on the floor). Instead of being exhausted and depressed, I feel full of energy and eager to attack my grading and then focus on my research and creative work during my break. I have energy, clarity, calm and have re-discovered "satiety." :-)   My food isn't a reward or punishment, and it isn't a treat--it's fuel. (OK, except for black coffee and LaCroix. Those are treats!). I make food choices without guilt and those choices aren't "clean" (or "dirty') and don't make ME "good" or "bad." They do fuel my daily activities and yes, eating food is satisfying and pleasurable.   (Let me just add that I brought donuts from a wonderful regional donut shop to my morning class and have cookies for the afternoon class. I had no interest in eating a doughnut and won't have any interest in the cookies, either.)   More mindful. My theme for 2015 was mindfulness, and Whole30 helped me extend that theme into meals and eating. My acupuncturist has suggested for "a while" that I MUST chew my food completely and I'm happy to report that I'm eating more slowly and chewing 1000% more.    With dramatically reduced heartburn. I have GERD and am looking at a deadline of May to heal my esophagus to avoid a painful procedure. This is motivating! I eliminated all of my nighttime reflux and was now working on bouts of heartburn for a half hour or so somewhere between 3 and 5 PM. I've had lots of days with no heartburn, some days with just 5 minutes and I'm confident I can get it to zero with a few more tweaks. (Adequate hydration is one of them. Who knew?)   [The "benefit" of my GERD is that it forces me to make sure that my eating is done by 7:30 PM (8 PM at the very latest and only when my schedule has been shot to hell by events beyond my control). I've built on this with my Whole30 and have a disciplined and workable meal schedule that makes sure I eat three meals and don't get hungry in between--another success from Whole30.]   With a re-formed body. I lost a lot of weight. I'm not even going to post the number of pounds because no matter what the number some people would read it and think, "That's all?"   My body has dramatically compacted and re-arranged. This is NOT "water weight" or lost muscle mass. I do 55 minutes of Pilates once a week with a personal trainer and she knows every part of my body intimately and she is astounded at the changes. (When I get to the university in the morning and see my reflection in the glass doors I am amazed at how much my upper torso has changed!)   I'm facing a hip replacement in May. This is also motivating as I decided I would do the rehab BEFORE the surgery and that I would lose 10-15% of my body weight to make the surgery and my recovery easier. Since August, I have lost almost 8% and I'm confident I'll make my goal.   I do water exercise 3 times a week and Pilates once a week in order to keep moving, stretch, and strengthen. These activities are my first priority and are not negotiable and I kept them up during my Whole30 and measurable improved my strength.   So, my Whole30 was a success beyond all my hopes and expectations. I'll be forever grateful to Courtney Carver for mentioning it on her blog, bemorewithless.com, as I'd never heard of the program until then.   I'll be posting my Reintroduction plans later today. (I'm starting tomorrow with black beans. Whoot!) My Reintroduction is, for me, even more important than doing the Whole30 as I am eager for information on how best to fuel a complex and creative life. (And my nutrition is part of a bigger project as I move toward a "simple" physical life with a tiny house in my future.) It may be a long process toward "optimal" health, but I can see that "excellent health" is certainly within my reach.   _____ For those interested, I also drew on Ellen Langer's research where she immersed 70+ year-old men in an environment that replicated their environment 20 years prior. They not only felt younger, but they had measurable physiological improvements. During my Whole30 I channeled how I felt and looked and what I did 20 something years ago, during a period when I was satisfied with my weight, my energy, my exercise and my accomplishments.

Success! I began my first Whole30 on November 12, 2015. I weighed 204 pounds, at 23 years old, at 5’6”. And my weight was climbing. I wasn’t active, eating poorly, and felt awful. I used to actually think there was something wrong with me, where I must be sick, because I would have unexplainable headaches and I would walk around feeling fuzzy and in a daze. I would often feel dizzy and exhausted for no reason whatsoever. I had yo-yo dieted and struggled with my weight for my adolescent and young adult life. I had a two year period of bulimia where I dropped a significant amount of weight, however I quickly gained all of that back again, and more. Any diet I ever tried left me feeling deprived and starved where I would just crave a tub of ice cream or anything deep-fried.

I found the Whole30 by accident. I went into Chapters looking for self-help books or motivational stories as I found myself tumbling into depression and uncontrollable stress. I had been diagnosed with extreme anxiety and moderate depression, and I was scared. As I scanned through the bookshelves looking for anything that wasn’t the “30lbs in 30 days!” “15lbs in only 15 minutes!”, a young woman approached me and changed my life. She recommended the Whole30 book, she had tried it for the recipes as she had dietary restraints, and recommended it as a “lifestyle” book, not a quick fix.

And so began my journey. On Day 1 I weighed myself, did full body measurements, and then hid my scale under a box in my spare bedroom. Goodbye scale!! I was ready to see what good food could do for my life, not just my gravity measurement.

Now, honestly, my day 2 hangover was so bad I was 4 hours late for work. For the first week, it took everything in me to have the energy to make the Whole30 compliant meal plan I had laid out for myself. Then it happened. Around day 10 or 11, my Tiger’s Blood began to course through my veins. I had energy, I was enthusiastic, my stomach felt slimmer, and I saw the light.

By the time day 24, 25, 26 rolled around I no longer had to think about it. I was grabbing the right foods, feeling good about it, and passing by those office donuts like they were dirt on the floor. I lost track of my days because I was just soaring through.

Now it’s Day 31. Time for the scale. I was so scared to get on it because I was worried if it wasn’t big, I’d be discouraged. Then I reminded myself that this was about the other positives. The big changes. The amazingness.
Over the course of the Whole30, my non-scale victories included:
My skin cleared up. I used to constantly break out around my chin and forehead. I’ve had one pimple in 30 days. I slept better. I used to take over an hour to fall asleep, I would toss and turn, and wake up exhausted. Now I’m out in under 15 minutes, I sleep peacefully, and I wake up feeling energized. My nails are stronger. I could never grow out my nails before, they would always crack and tear. They are now healthier than ever. I stopped getting headaches. I used to get mini-migraines at least once or twice a week, and I pretty much lived with a perma-headache. I’d pop ibuprofen like it was going out of style. I took ibuprofen once in the entire 30 days for a cramped muscle. My 4pm sugar crash is gone. I used to hit 4-5pm at work and need food, and would have no energy left for the day. Now my energy is consistent throughout the entire day and I never crave in-between sugary snacks. My hormones leveled out. Before Whole30 I had issues with not having a normal ‘cycle’ (ladies), and now I’m feeling healthy and balanced again. My clothes fit better. I'm not a picky person when it comes to what size clothes I have to buy, what matters is how they fit. I'm still buying a size large, but now I have a waist and it looks good. Now that I reminded myself of the life changing positives that have nothing to do with numbers, I do have to mention them. With full body measurements, I lost just over 25 inches. 5 inches from my waist! I feel like a new person.

And of course, the scale. At this point I decided I didn’t care, as long as I wasn’t up I knew I was in the right direction. But today, the scale and I were friends. I lost 16 pounds and now weigh 188lbs.

The Whole30 was my gift to myself. I feel fantastic, I never felt hungry or deprived, I learned how to make new, delicious recipes, and I feel like I have control over myself again. I plan to continue on with the Whole30 being my guideline for daily eating. I know there will be Christmas parties, vacations, and other excuses, and maybe I will indulge from time to time. But I want my lifestyle to be the same as it was, and to continue to make good choices for myself.

The Whole30 rocks, and I’m going to make sure everyone knows about it!

    Hello Everyone,

I will be starting my very first Whole 30 on January 1st 2016!

I am excited but also quite anxious, for several reasons:
     - I have convinced my husband and children to join me in the Whole 30 and I hope that I can provide adequate meals to ensure that we stick with the      programme for 30 days.
    - I am a Nigerian living in Nigeria (Africa) and a lot of the ingredients, vegetables and recipes are either unknown or unavailable.

    |However, I am very happy to see that Yam and Bone broth are acceptable foods. I will be posting about my experience and I hope all goes well.

I have never been able to follow a strict diet for more than 14 days, but I am currently experimenting with Paleo lifestyle and changing my mindset from a "temporary restrictive diet" to a "real-food lifestyle change".

    A brief intro:
Female Mid 40s Sugar addict (especially a week before that special monthly event ) Explorer of a wide variety of diets since 19 y.o. Experienced yo-yo dieter Former believer that fat, meat, and eggs are bad and grain is good Current believer that I finally have the maturity to understand that I don't have to be skinny, but I do have to eat well and be healthy.

    Hi all,
I'm Cindy, 29 and from Belgium and will be starting my first whole30 on Jan 1st (seafood platter with plenty of veggies planned).
I live near the seaside with my hubbie, son and two dogs and while I used to be in great shape, now I'm just overweight, tired, suffering from chronic inflammations and allergies and not very happy with myself.
Was seriously in doubt about my start date (original was 23rd as I have 2 full days at business event scheduled before that), but as I've been at home for two weeks I've had time to read up and prep and I'm too excited to wait that long.
Am anxious about my close support system though, nobody in my vicinity joining and all quite skeptical - especially the husband.
Not too worried about my 3y/o son as he's been drooling over the food I've prepped last few days :-).
Very curious to read all your stories!

I'm a bridesmaid in 8 weeks time so I have a little extra incentive to lose this creeping muffin top and get happy and glowing.
Happy to connect over FB if anyone wants an accountability buddy - this helped me a lot on my first one.
Measuring myself and chucking the scales now.
