    Hey, Everyone!
I'm behind the 8 ball on posting but better late than never! I started my whole 30 on the 15th like the rest of you. This is my second one-- first one was four years ago. It was life changing for me. I broke a major sugar addiction, became 'regular' for the first time in my life, and learned that some types of food adversely affect how I feel. After the completion, I began eating Paleo. I ate well for about a year, then I got lazy.
I'm now 51 y/o, perimenopausal, dealing w/joint aches, and 15 pounds heavier. I knew it was time.
This time around has been a bit easier (fingers crossed!) I still deal w/ cravings, so I find something to do for 5 minutes & that helps. I DO like flaked coconut and cashews!!! Got to watch THAT!
Way to hang in there, you guys! It's gonna be worth it!

Fortunately for me, I started a hormone balancing supplement program a month before doing the Whole30. My night sweats have disappeared and I'm not crazy w/my emotions. I think cleaning up my diet is helping a lot, as well. All I can say is this: do your research, ask a ton of questions and go the road that works best for you. There are a lot of opinions out there, but only you can choose what works for you.

Today is Day 0 of my 3rd Whole30 challenge. I have successfully completed one other challenge, and unsuccessfully tried one before that (when my son was quite young, and I was bfing.....it was a challenge, that I failed). My last Whole30, not gonna lie, left me adrenally fatigued, but I think that was due to 2 things. First, I did not like sweet potatoes. I didn't mind them made into sweet potato chews, but those are ridiculously time consuming to prepare! Second, I was drinking coffee - too much coffee! I quit coffee 11 days ago, and found the sugar demons rushing back to me. So, I decided a Whole30 challenge was in order to starve the sugar dragons.
Today I went shopping ($250 at Whole Foods!!!!) and prepared a ton of food. I have bone broth in the crock pot, and I cooked off 2 lbs ground beef, 1 lb ground pork, 3 large sweet potatoes, 3 lbs chicken, 2 zucchinis, and 2 red peppers. Oh, and some mayo. And then there's a bunch of fruit and other veggies in the fridge as well, and delicious pastured eggs.
Tomorrow is Day 1. Excited! Oh, I still need to take photos, I'll come back and post!

Very intersted reading these posts. I am on day 30 today argh I have such mixed feelings about what to do now. Part of me wants to do the re-introducing thing but the other part is worried that it will just start up all my horrible sugar cravings....
I have enjoyed eating Whole30 foods I haven't really missed anything that bad (except for on day 5 - I had an awful day felt like my life as I knew it was over). I loved 1 can of Diet Coke a day before and sometimes it would be more but I haven't had that for 30 days now and my thought is not to bother taking up that habbit again because I know the stuff isn't good for me it might be that I have one on special occasions.
I will read your posts with interest.

Last night ended up involving a small glass of wine at dinner. That was delicious. But it lead to a small (about a 1/4 cup) of Haagen Daaz (how is that spelled???) when I got home. So I woke up this morning with a (warning yuck factor) mucus factory for a nose and a small stomach ache.
Lesson learned: I still love alcohol. Dairy should be occasional and I need to not have ice cream in the freezer (it was a pint I bought for the re-introduction last weekend but didn't finish because I actually ate small servings).
Positive: I eat way smaller quantities of sweet than I would have before. I always used to think "who eats a 1/2 cup of any dessert, really?" and I've been satisfied by more like a 1/4 cup serving. That's awesome. And I'm not having any desire to eat more or snack outside of that treat time.

Tom is right...sleep is so important. Honestly, I used to sleep 6-7 hours and think that was acceptable. I had to force myself to sleep longer, without guilt. Give it a try! I know I feel a ton better and I make much better food choices when I have slept 8 hours. Just try it out. Best wishes!

I wish I had the right words of encouragement right now.
If anything, I would recommend you look at everything you had eaten and then the business at work that lead to this. Are there other stressors in your life that are out of your control?
You can move on with the next new 30 days knowing that you CAN DO THIS. Look at this last 17 as a learning experience.
    Sending you hugs!

    Day 25
7.15am - boiled egg + seranno ham, black coffee
11am - pecan pie Nak'd bar + cc coffee. I needed something to help me withstand the lure of the tin of chocolates I bought for trick or treaters...
12.30 - mashed butternut squash, fried field mushroom, bacon & fried egg, My new small cast iron pan is the perfect size for a fried egg, so cute

So this afternoon I got my delivery of a gallon of Nam Pla. The delivery guy was so nice, look what he GAVE me, free of friggin charge!, It's like paleo Xmas!!! 9 cans of coconut milk and 6 jars of green curry paste!! I spread the love to my paleo friends.

5.45pm - thai green chicken curry on cauliflower rice. The husband and kids had a cunning mix of basmati & cauli, I don't think they even realised (mwah hah hah).

I bought a fresh coconut for the firs time ever so over the afteroon I had the water/juice and several pieces of fresh coconut, it's a bit addictive!

5.45pm - roast chicken (Thomas keller style) with roasted veg. This was so good and I'm that I don't have a photo. I downloaded ios6 and it all went horribly wrong

    Day 74
    Breakfast
    Egg muffins w/mayo
    Lunch
Went to a "hometown" place to eat and was going to order eggs with veggies but they don't serve all day. So ordered Italian beef, no bun. Thought this would be good, but thinking it through more and guessing the au jus juice was loaded with shit I can't pronounce so kicking myself there. Also had house salad, no cheese, no dressing.
    Dinner
Steak, zucchini fries, ranch, pumpkin/apple recipe (from forum)
    Ate too much dinner
    2 cups coffee today 1 w/coconut milk
Half mini loaf the bread I made yesterday
Tomorrow we are going to the pumpkin patch for the 2nd and last time of the season (I think it'll be the last). I'll have plain coffee and a pumpkin dessert!
Today hubby made the comment that all the food I make taste like shit! Nice! Very nice honey!! I can't help it his taste buds are tainted!! Ha!

I have been readingwith interest. I am still very worried about introducing things! I tried Dairy on Monday (a bit later than I was meant to just because I was scared) anyway the day after the dairy (cheese and greek yoghurt) I felt fine other than I had terrible sugar cravings!! I had a horrible day just wanted to eat everything but fancied nothing in particular I didn't go off plan but I just over ate the things I am allowed! By the next day I was back to normal. Today I am meant to introduce grains but haven't done anything yet. I might try a little pasta with my stroganoff tonight but I just worry thatthe terrible cravings start up again!! I don't think me and food have a better relationship yet. I am glad I have done this plan I just need to worry less about off-roading. Good luck to you on the rest of your journey.

Last post for my science experiment! Everything that I don't flat out want to avoid for the rest of time has been reintroduced, with non-dramatic effects. With the exception of occasional cheese and frozen yogurt, I think I'll stay away from dairy. I've noticed that grains spur cravings and hunger, but not to such a degree that I can't have them occasionally. I'll just be aware of what they're likely to do and that is likely to be enough for me to redirect myself as needed. Doing whole grain vs. refined stuff does seem to help. I don't plan to add in sugar unless whatever it is so awesome there's no way I want to miss it. That cuts out about 90% of the sugary junk I was eating before. I'll continue with my plan that if I want to eat baked goods, I have to bake them myself (or hubby is fine, too, because he is doing 100% whole grains also).
For whatever limited audience see this, here's a shout out to Dallas and Melissa, and all the Mods who make this information so accessible--what a great service to the world! It has been tremendously helpful as I begin my lifelong journey of thinking about food differently.

It's been interesting to see how I'm reacting emotionally to introducing a little flexibility in my diet now that I'm post Whole30. I had to go to a formal dinner last night, and I didn't want to grill (no pun) the servers about what was in all the foods. Luckily, the food was buffet, and there were plain pork slices and sweet potatoes available. There's a possibility that something was cooked in something it shouldn't have been, but it didn't seem like it. The pork was, well, dry, and the sweet potatoes were, well, boring. I keep having to remind myself that I'm post Whole30--yes, I'm trying to introduce things one at a time, but that doesn't preclude being at least a little flexible (like I can't see a reason to worry about the fact that the salad had feta in it--I just brushed the feta off, so the fact that it TOUCHED dairy is hardly a reason to get spun up at this point, so RELAX already, right?)
I'm going to switch the order of the reintroduction and do legumes today, before grains besides wheat. I couldn't find anything that said the order was that way for a reason. I have to go out to lunch today at Chipotle, and after a month of regularly eating the only legal meal I could have there (carnitas, mild salsa, guac, and lettuce), I can't bear the thought of eating it again. Unlike the carnitas, the beef is cooked in soybean oil, so I'll have that, and up the ante with some black beans and maybe even fajita vegetables (also cooked in soy), and see what happens.
I'm pleased to report that neither of the reintroductions that I've done so far (dairy or wheat) have set off any firestorms of cravings.

Another social day. I have been on a jury for a case competition all day and night, and everything but compliant food was constantly served: candies, sandwiches, cookies, cake, wine, champagne, cheese, chocolate, soda…
But I sticked to water, herbal tea, some fruit, and my own snacks. I also brought my own lunch and managed to find some great food at the dinner buffet.
Today several people also commented that it looks like I have lost weight. Perhaps I have. We will see next week.

    DAY 20: DINNER SOLUTION
Tonight I was invited over to a friend's house for dinner, but when I sent the list of things I could and could not eat, my friend suggested that we should move the dinner to my house. So that I could cook Whole30 food for all of us. The others would just bring wine and dessert, for themselves.
It went fine. I cooked a large Bouillabaisse, without wine, but with really good, fresh seafood and fish: salmon, cod, seabass, shrimps, mussels… mmm. Served with an homemade aioli with saffron. Bread and cheese for the others. Olives for all. And then some berries for dessert for me, and chocolate for the others.
    FOOD
B boiled eggs, avocado, ½ grapefruit, espresso
L lambburger, salad, olives melon, espresso
    D bouillabaisse, olives, berries
    S ¼ bananapancake with berries
    MOOD
    Fine.
    MOVE
    45 min PW/jog, 3000 Fuel.
    SLEEP
7,5 hrs. 11.00-06.00 + 5.00-5.30. Woke up too early and felt tired all day. I sleep tight, but I seem to wake up earlier with Whole30. Took a nap in order to survive the night.

So today 22nd October 2012 marks the start of my second whole 30. YAY!!!
I completed my first one in July, starting 1st July. I wrote about my adventures in a log you can find it here- http://forum.whole9l...y-through-july/
Much of my reasoning behind doing a second whole30 is the same. After myt first one, i felt amazing. I had sooo much more energy. I loved the person staring back at me in the mirror.
I then went on a 6 week tour of Europe, where my food choices were not always in my control, as some meals were catered. And i caved in to some sugar here and there So i've come back feeling bloated, lathargic, and bascially not feeling as great as i know i can.
I did start a sugar free diet, as soon as i landed in Australia, and have been eating paleo since. I have been tossing up doing another whole30 when a friend came to me to ask some advice on how to eat paleo, and healthier. I send her all the links to the whole30, and after raving about it to her, i decided to join in the journey with her.
So here i am, starting my whole30 for October/November, i will finish on my birthday 20th November After my 30 days is up, i'm moving onto a further 54 days, to complete a 12 week transformation. I am entering an online body transformation competition, and i am using the whole30 to get a good base, so i am mentally prepared for the rest of the 12 weeks.
I will try and get my friend onto the forums too, as i know this the best place to get support......
    So todays food is :
breakfast- chicken, green vegies (broccoli, zucchini, basil, chives), cauliflower, sauerkraut, coconut oil, cup of pepermint tea.
lunch- chicken, green vegies (broccoli, zucchini, basil, chives), cauliflower, sauerkraut, coconut oil, vitamin and minerals drink.
dinner- turkey meat with green vegies (boky choy, leek, basil, chives, kale, zucchini), onion, coconut oil.
    snacks- bone broth
PWO- egg whiles, tahini, cinnamon, sweet potato

I am using this whole30 to remove reliance on fruit and nuts. In my last whole30 i relied on them a little too much, and ended up over eating on them. I have since discovered that nuts do play up with my tummy. So removal of them will work in my favour a lot more.
So i know the whole30 is not about weightloss or anything like that, but for my 12week transformation i have taken measurements, and have taken photos. I will only be revisiting this at the end of the 30 days. As this first 30 days is more about getting my head in the ball game, and preparing mentally.
    LETS DO THIS

i have the honor of watching my husband slather a 2" thick layer of nutella on a not so thick slice of freshly baked white bread almost every evening after dinner. he's also one of those hybrid humans -- never gains a pound, is constantly asked by strangers if he's a swimmer, biker or diver due to his lean/muscular figure. on another note, he is almost ALWAYS tired. i lost my chance to sell him on the w30 and paleo style of eating. he thinks it's all a bunch of b.s. whatever, husband. whatever.
