CrazyWiseWoman got a reaction from Elizabeth33 in I Quit Smoking and Started Eating— I start Whole 30 tomorrow!
Congrats @Amada Grace! So glad you are here. I am so proud of you for quitting smoking and vaping (and alcohol!). I quit smoking 7 years ago and I know how hard it is. Stay strong and pay attention to how much better you feel little by little every single day you get further away from the nicotine and the addiction. I think that doing a Whole30 now is going to be a great experience for you. You are already changing a lot you might as well go for it and change the way you eat too! Let me know if you need any help! You will find great resources here and on Instagram so make sure you check it all out!
    Cheers!

    Hi @JessFind and @Prairie Dawn,
First let me say welcome and congratulations for doing something so very good for yourselves. I know that although challenging, Whole30 can be done no matter what. I myself have made it through all kinds of temptations during my multiple rounds. I would say try to stay away from the baking but clearly that's not an option for you Jess. I know you can get thru anything for a month and it sounds like you have a supportive husband which is so awesome. Can't wait to hear how it goes for you guys as we roll on into a super healthy September!
    Cheers!

Hi there! I'm Jess and I'm starting my first round of Whole 30 on Sept. 2nd. I'm a little anxious, but excited to see how this changes my relationship with food. I've had a horrible relationship with food my entire life, and now I've found myself at 33 years old and 200 pounds. I never wanted to be here. I've gained 30 pounds this year, and it has to stop. That being said, I'm not looking at Whole 30 as just a weight-loss program. I really want to better understand how food affects my body. Through my weight gain this year, I've also noticed a lot more swelling and just generally feeling crappy. This makes sense when I'm eating crap.
Oh, also, I'm the wife of a baker. He makes DELICIOUS things all the time -- and while I don't really consider myself having a big sweet tooth (I generally crave salty, spicy things) -- I just can't say no to his cookies. Thankfully he's very supportive and is also a great cook, and I know he'll help me stay on track. That being said, we have markets twice this month where I'll be around his baking all day trying to sell it, which also means he has to cook all that stuff (IT SMELLS SO GOOD). However, this is going to be a part of my life always, so I need to learn to be around it without totally messing everything up. I'm sure I'll have to lean on you guys during those days, though.
But I feel ready. I've bought a food sensitivity journal and am planning on taking good notes after every meal/day about how I feel. I've read the symptom calendar and know that I'm going to feel gross for probably the first two weeks, maybe more. But I'm hoping to break through these cravings and take control of my life. I hope to get more energy and be able to think more clearly.
    Any and all advice welcome!

Thanks!!  I have already figured out I am not eating enough. Felt like I needed to go bed after lunch and did some quick math (just for research) and realized that at both breakfast and lunch I ate probably about half of what I should. One to TWO portions of protein and much more veggies, as well as fat, are needed!  I am 57 years old and can tell you that I have probably spent enough money to buy a car on a very popular weight program and this is the long-standing habit I need to break - the starve yourself thin piece.
    Day 1 lesson learned.
