Thank you for yet another very useful link, Kirkor! I'm weening out most of my fruit this week. I know I could look this up but what say you about carbs in acorn squash, which I am just adoring this week.

Hi Augie just wanted to mention that it's all so related - I have sibo and am going on ketwhole30 in feb after my first jan whole30. I'm researching both the selected carbo and keto diets (very similar) for sibo.

Hi Praxis - re your prev quest on leaky gut - yes I was diagnosed with lg years ago. LG and SIBO and IBS and Candida and Celiac and and and and our GUTS are very much related. It could very well be that I had LG because of SIBO years ago and didn't know it. So we're looking at the whole pic - hopefully with major dietary changes and awareness, I'll heal the SIBO and that will take care of any LG/candida issues as well.

Check out this Digestive Health Institute page which has a nice breakdown of all the above mentioned gut issues and associated diets including keto/lowcarb.

I just found this link on reddit this morning! Took a look, left due to info OD... but now you provided a link, which means take a much closer look asap. Fooocuuuuusss...

I just ordered two books from Amazon - It Starts With Food and Why We Get Fat. Also thinking of ordering The New Atkins - buuuut am wondering if the two books I ordered are enough for newbies with a scientific bent, what with all the online info out there as well?

Also, is it smart to start keto without dairy? Cuz I want to start Sunday with keto, but can't eat dairy until end of Jan as I am committed to Whole 30 as well...

Haven't been testing everyday with the Ketostix since I know it's only an iffy measurement of ketosis, but today I got my first non-zero reading!!

Just want to say that keto can absolutely be done without dairy.  I'm doing it right now.    And I don't plan to re-intro much dairy...  None of us do well with it here.  It really needs to be kept as an occasional thing at my house.

For the probiotics it would help some fermented foods like sauerkraut, or even compliant pickles, the fruits are a no-no to fight tummy bacteria and candida.

best to you! We are on the same boat!

Bronnyd,  I'll leave this to Keto Kirkor but leave the dairy out.  Stay committed to the W30.   Your curly hair rocks.

I would keep doing the standard Whole30 through January, mainly just to see it through and have the victory.  Then you can do keto in February and work in your doc's plan for sibo with the yogurt.

    Hey MeadowLily

I love your colorful posts! And such positive support too. Thank you for your thoughtful comments and encouragement and cool images too

I crawled out of bed feeling like I could sleep another 8.5 hours. AND I feel so grateful. I'm on the right track here. Here is a yummy cup of coffee in front of me. Grateful to be learning about Whole30, KetwhOle30 and SCD. Still in the learning process of what diet will best serve by shifting body at this time and grateful to be learning.

I've decided to go keto this sunday after fruit is gone. No dairy (yet) but more veggies and fat. And GHEE! Such a bright cheerful word. Like WHEE! As in Heeeere we goooo....  gheeeeee!

It's great for this month during your Whole30, but if you go ketogenic next month it's probably going to be too high in carbs to be very satisfying (10+/0.5c).

I pretended there wasn't any set way for me to feel and no such thing as carb flu.   I pretended that I could complete any Whole 30 without whining and stay upbeat for my family.  I pretended that black coffee was great and compliant good fats were better than anything in any bakery...anywhere in the Universe.     I pretended in the very beginning...that Melissa helped me throw compliant items in my grocery cart.   If I circled the refined food aisles too many times,  I pretended that she led me out the door and back down the road.   I pretended all kinds of things and every one of them worked.  I even pretended that Kirkor was my brother from a different mother....because he makes me laugh and smile every day.    I've pretended nothing.   Nothing.    I believe all of it to be true.   It came true and I could not be happier eating fish, fats and vegetables.   They've made me feel like a stellar feller or that person I've always wanted to be...or she became me.      Kirkor.

After eating a whole pound of Brussels sprouts last night, I was looking at the net carbs in different veggies ... this list is pretty cool, sorted by net carb per 1/2 cup: http://www.ruled.me/best-low-carb-vegetables-ketogenic-diet/

    Hi Augie and Praxis

Augie, Yes I'm reading Breaking the Viscous Cycle also! I've got bananas and apples in house still so after I eat those, I'm going to cut out most fruits - scd says bananas are ok if very ripe. And it's very hard for me to rid apples. But for the process of elimination and reintro, I am going to anyway.

Frozen blueberries will be the hardest. They are so good! And so many antioxidants. But I will also reintroduce those after Feb.

My plan is to combine the scd and the ketwhole30 for month of feb. Now, the ketwhole30 allows for yoghurt, right?

Praxis, yes the scd diet and antibiotics/herbs are to rid the bacteria overgrowth in the small intestine. My doc put me on a continuous specific probiotic as well for repopulation of any die off in large intestine as well. After this month, I'm going to try the homemade fermented yoghurt. It has to be fermented for 24 hours to rid all the lactose.

Hi Augie Thank you for the insight on candida. I'm thinking I should cut out the fruit and go keto. Hard decision.
I think I'm going to gradually do it. Eliminate slow rather than cold turkey - and then see how I feel for a couple weeks without fruit. Then when I reintroduce fruit, I'll know more clearly whether or not it's affecting mre.

My doc put me on antibiotics (finished now) and nystatin. She also said I could start herbal remedies such as oregano and cinnamon, which I'm doing. All of the herbal remedies and nystatin also treat candida and I did wonder if there was a correlation - would make sense. Funny she did not mention candida though so I will ask her about it next time.

Thank you for the link, Kirkor! The yoghurt isn't a must do - it's something I will do in Feb. but my doc did say to be careful at first with it anyhow. She put me on a special probiotic gelcap so I'm set - and feel sooo much better already (aside from the die-off of holiday treat madness). Amazing how one day can make a huge dif! Today was so much more energetic than yesterday.

    Hi Kirkor

So I'm doing the whole 30 right now, first time, on the start Jan 1 forum, and am very interested in learning more about keto. After the typical whole 30 i'd like to move into ketwhole30. I've been diagnosed with small intestinal bacteria overgrowth (sibo) and my doc wants me to start eating homemade yogurt fermented for 24 hours as well as follow the selective carbo diet (scd). So I'm integrating whole 30 with scd and cutting out all dairy and some whole 30 foods until february.

I'm interested if you know about sibo and whether doing a ketowhole30 would help.
