Today is Day 5 without dairy - I have never, ever in my entire life been so many days without cheese (this is why I was never successful on Whole 30 before).  And I haven't died yet!  I really thought I would just die if I didn't get to eat cheese!  I'm actually pretty ok and not really missing it.

Have a great Whole 30 day everyone!

    GOOD morning Peeps

Magic … that’s going to be my word. I’ve been thinking and thinking and nothing. Then this morning I read Tonya’s post and BAM there it was. “Magic”

I do not think the “pumpkin eggs” are SWYPO. If the dish were then ALL baked eggs/frittatas would fall under the same category. It’s taking 2 good for you ingredients and eating them for breakfast.

Oh no Miki! That is truly a bummer!! I was beginning to really be concerned because I haven't received my mayo from them yet.

So I have been skating pretty well through these phases and feeling pretty good. Slight headache, but that’s about it. Then I started having a frustrated conversation with a stapler, telling it that it was a stupid stapler for jamming. My health clerk was seated at a nearby desk and says “This IS kill all the things day, isn’t it?” LOL!
Yes folks, I was having an argument with a STAPLER.

Make it a great day, all!

Higs - Thank you for full disclosure.   I thought I was the only one.   Me neither, never made it and I am BR all of the way.   I don't make it the same way twice.   I use Macadamia Nut oil  at the end to silken it up and I've used every berry in season.   Sometimes, a tad of clarified butter, too.    Savory and fruity BR's are the coupe de ville of sauces for me.

Higs - I can't wait for the weekend.  I'll be waiting for a drive-by fruiting from you.

Miki - I'm only 1 hour ahead of you.   Rocky Mountain time.

Laurie - Good one!  Like your tweaks and updates about Steve.

NannyD - You are a strong force to be reckoned with.   My heart turns to mush when I see what you're up to.   You are compliant without any complaint.

Dave - motivator.     I was up and down the highway at 6:00 in search of compliant supplies.   Thank you for the great advice.  I do want to be known as healthy chick and not uptight food chick.

I recommend hugs for the challenges we all face and then serious 'sucking it up, buttercup'.  The world is full of breakrooms, super bowl parties, anniversary and birthday parties...all populated with people who won't and don't eat like we need to eat.

We might as well get used to it if we want health to be a priority in our life.    So many of us have ridden that merry-go-round where all the horses' saddles are worn smooth from our butts.

We're eating whole foods in their whole forms.   We don't break these formations down into foods that look like pancakes, crepes or waffles - cookies, cakes or candy bars.   We don't take it to the razor's edge to see what we can get away with because we're only stopping our own progress if we do that.

If you will reread your book and search beyond this thread....you will find that the strategy Melissa and Dallas have created will break the cycle of binge eating.   I swear it broke the cycle for me.

When we eat like kings for 30 days (which is a long time for some of you at this point)....eating all healthy, non-trigger foods - it will make all of the difference in the world for an authentic Whole 30.

There are imaginary Whole 30's.   Yep.   The mods try very hard to point out those differences to us - real and authentic vs. imaginary.

Stay in your lane.   dcducks has ahold of the reins and we're working as a team of  workhorses.    Strong and powerful and everyone pulling for each other.

I may have to break down and try making mayo again, that recipe makes it look very easy!!  I have been using Wilderness brand, but it's sometimes hard to find.

Tulip-It really is like magic - there's all sorts of sciency stuff that you could read about, but basically, when your body is nourished correctly your hunger cues and appetite correct themselves, and you eat the right amount of calories for your energy requirements.  The trick (that I have yet to figure out) is to stay the course of nourishing your body correctly.  I'm not one that really enjoys cooking and planning meals is something I'm still working on.  I have been known to quickly cook up some raw spinach in olive oil in a frying pan, add a Steak'Um (hey, it's 100% beef!) and call it dinner.  I wouldn't do that during a Whole 30 nor most days when I'm eating well, but my point is, you will figure out some quick meals and tricks that work for you and your own personal style.

Pumpkin eggs - This is something I came up with myself after beginning to eat in a Paleo/Primal way.  One of the websites had a recipe for Pumpkin souffle, but I didn't want to separate the eggs and whip the whites.  I eventually got to where I would sometimes leave out the dairy (whipping cream) and just mix up eggs, pumpkin, and spices, then bake it in the oven.  Last night, I was reading about SWYPO on this website, and I began to wonder if that's what this recipe would be considered...in spirit it's not, because I don't see this as replacing pancakes or a pastry or anything like that.  But, it is adding egg to an ingredient and baking it...I actually also make banana eggs, which I found the recipe for as a substitute for french toast:  banana fried in coconut oil, then egg, vanilla, and cinnamon scrambled into the banana.  It looks like scrambled eggs, but I'm not eating that on Whole 30 because it's sweet and I do feel like it's a Paleo-fied meal.  Anyone have an opinion about the pumpkin eggs?  Is this SWYPO?

Still feeling good today - my dogs had me awake at 4:30 am (!) and I could not get back to sleep.  I wonder if I'll crash tonight....

I ate enough yesterday that I did not need the nighttime coconut milk/cherry smoothie,  This has seemed way too easy so far.  I expected to struggle the first few days, and then have it get easier.  I hope it's not going to be the other way around.

Getting ready for the gym. I will straighten lots today. I'm still working on that template, eating earlier and not having seconds (even if it's just protein). I read an article yesterday that said if you're having problems with bloating, try taking smaller bites, chewing longer, etc. Kind of made sense to me.

Coleslaw was really good yesterday. Looking to try some different protein this weekend. Maybe some shrimp veggie thai curry over spaghetti squash - that'll cure what ails ya.

For me, this program (any program) is way over 50 percent psychological and emotional. Choose to focus on the beautiful colors of the food you're eating. Choose to think about how they nourish your body. Choose to be grateful to yourself for taking the time to heal you from the inside out.

Today I will straighten my thinking...(don't worry WD, I'll straighten my "drawers" too).

right now I'm trying to get myself to walk away from the computer and get to the gym!

That may not happen today (not happy with myself)...but there is always tomorrow.

I'll do situps in the bosses office, she's not here today.

Today I'm making my coleslaw again (next week I may ad some left over chicken or shrimp, it would be a meal then).

I saw they had ketchup at the same company I get my hot sauce (I should say order, as I still haven't gotten it).

I'm so impressed by some CC and Meadow come to mind, that have "adopted" this way of eating for the most part, that is my goal. I feel so awesome between day 8 and day 16. I don't have the energy wave yet, but the old girl might just be a little behind all you youngins.

Embrace your amazingness, love yourself, your body and yes...even Whiskey (dry) Dave.

Ok - mood swings are going to happen for a few days to a week into this. DONT PANIC! Your cravings will come and go and so will appetite and energy. I have felt bloated for the past two days but yesterday that started to go away and I was wide awake at almost midnight last night (3-4 hours past my bedtime). This made me nervous that I would be exhausted this morning but I popped out of bed at 0500 and I was up and running. I still have some cravings but you just have to say NO! this is 30 days people.......30 DAYS! You are almost a 1/4 the way done.

Mayo - shouldn't be runny. I would try a different mixer next time. For those that don't like mayo, I will tell you that homemade mayo has a different taste and texture which some people who never liked mayo now enjoy!

Tulip - snap out of it! It's only been a couple of days! If you are feeling fatter, it might be the bloating phase that some people go thru. Stay the course! To cut and run now will solve NOTHING! This is your first time so there are going to be many experiences that are new to you. DO NOT GIVE UP! DO NOT GIVE IN! Make sure you are eating compliant! All of the carbs and candy and CRAP that you have been eating goes straight to your gut! The body doesn't know what to do with all of the sugar so it keeps storing it.......IN THE FORM OF FAT! Give this 30 days and you will see the difference!

Nikki - do not skip meals! Make sure you getting enough food and the right food!

All - this program does not have to be expensive and it doesn't have to be time consuming. Does it take more time than opening a bag of Fritos......YES! You will get out of this program what you put into it!

DO NOT THINK OF THIS AS A DIET! Think of this as FINALLY eating what your body needs. In the quantity that it needs! When you really start looking at what you are eating compared to what you were eating.......its disgusting! Do you think I ever would have guessed that there was sugar-free bacon on the market? Not in a million years. Sugar, sodium, chemicals, preservatives, CRAP......is put into soooooo much food it should be a crime. Companies continue to find any and EVERY alternative to increase their profit. If you think they care what is going into the food....YOU ARE WRONG!

DONT DO THIS PROGRAM FOR ANYONE BUT YOURSELF!

House chore - straighten something.....book shelf, fridge, pantry, linen closet, scrap book..................DO IT!

    Dave

I think the body breaks fat down in strange and mysterious ways.   Things may get loosey goosey but hang in there.  It's nature's way of cleaning up the house.

"On a related topic, I wanted to discuss something else that often happens when people are getting lean and dealing with stubborn body fat: the fat gets squishy, feeling almost like there are small marbles under the skin.  Yes, very scientific, I know. That’s the best I can do.

As folks get lean, down to the last pounds of fat, the skin and fat cells that are left will often change appearance and texture.  It will feel squishy to the touch. This is good because it means that the fat is going away.  I have nothing truly profound to say about this topic, just realize that it happens and usually indicates good things are happening."

    Good afternoon from California!

Bone broth is defrosting as I type. RX bars arrived yesterday for emergencies. Romaine & spinach cleaned, chopped and bagged. 5 Jars of salads ready for the week. 2 pounds of bacon baked. I’m steaming eggs tonight for HB eggs and for deviled eggs. MY FAVORITE!! I’m baking a spaghetti squash tonight. That out to get me through week one!

NannyD – I do not put egg shells in my BB. I haven’t heard of that before. I drink BB steaming hot straight out of a nice heavy coffee mug. That’s my favorite way. I also use it to make soups. When I need to boil something in water, I’ll use ½ water and ½ BB. (Depending on how large my supply is at the time)

Chore for the day: Since my housekeeper comes tomorrow, I won’t be doing floors. HOWEVER, she is tiny and can’t reach the high places, even with a step-stool, so when I get home from work I’ll clean all the ceiling fans, and do the windows. That ought to burn some calories.

    Good 1st day all!!

Hi all! I'm a little late to the game joining the forum, but I'd love to hop into the group since I started my first Whole 30 today too! I admittedly have had a rough/silly start on Day 1 because I literally haven't eaten yet - have been out of town and haven't had time to shop yet, and don't have anything edible in the house! I'm headed out to grocery shop and stock up within the hour and will be home prepping food for the week this evening.

I follow some great Whole 30 Instagram accounts, but love the idea of having a group to be accountable to as well.

So hopefully you can all ignore my terrible Day 1 start and let me in! (That $5000 check is on the way!)

P.S. I'm a 26 year old student/music business person living in NYC (originally from CA), am currently at my highest weight ever (scary!), dealing with high blood pressure (a recent issue), and been gaining weight rapidly over the past couple months (I'm usually pretty steady even with a high weight my whole life!) So this feels like the perfect time to jump in and change my eating habits...finally!

First day drawing to a close and how's this for a start?? On my way to work and I got in a car accident! Nobody was hurt so thats all that matters. But I made it through the day without inhaling the chocolate in my fridge out of stress. And the only caffeine I had was green tea this morning which is amazing for me. Here are my meals for the day...nothing exciting because I was supposed to do my big shop after work but that is hard to do when your car is out of commission!
M1: hard boiled eggs, tomato, celery, drizzled with olive oil ( celery first thing is something I will never ever have again..ever) - not a lot in my fridge and had to leave early
    Midmorning-decaf coffee with coconut cream
M2: mixed greens, peppers, cucumbers, tomatoes, avocado, chicken breast, olive oil and lemon juice dressing
M3: shredded zucchini, sweet potato, spring onion, kale, coconut oil, beef mince, lots of mixed herbs
Hope everyone had a good day!

You are going to be the one who loses the most inches, the most weight, changes the most clothing sizes, has the softest skin, gets the better job, marries the great guy (you might have already done this but I'm on a roll), becomes famous! YOU CAN BE THE ONE WHO MAKES OUR GROUP PROUD!

Meadow - I love the ship theme! But not to worry, the picture you are painting is not bleak. We have plenty of food, delicious food, healthy food! I am glad the rats ate the bread and sugar and the Captain Morgan is gone! We will not go hungry....we will feed the machine.

Samantha - Google "Paleo Steak Skewers with Cherry BBQ sauce"....good stuff!

All, I actually make my homemade mayo in a blender/processor. Yup......still works!

Jeslight...er - find something to clean that takes 30 minutes.......be creative!

Sarah - welcome to our group....be strong and amazing things will happen for you.

I weighed in this morning......the damage is done! The scale will find its place in a dark place deep in the closet. The number on the scale means nothing! NOTHING! I want everyone to realize that YOU have the ability to do great things in the next 30 days. You are healthy enough to lose weight (some more than others). You are healthy enough to be active and to become more active as we go on. But most importantly, you have the STRENGTH ....the MENTAL STRENGTH to do what is right for your body. For those of you who have never cleansed your body like this.......you are going to notice some weakness, maybe some dizzy spells for a couple days......but then the TIGER BLOOD comes in and you feel invincible! You go to bed ...........AND SLEEP SOUNDLY.......wake up bright eyed and bushy tailed. You stroll past the donuts, sweets, and any other trickery that has always captured you in the past. It takes 21 days to break any addiction......and we all have one! Breads, chocolate...whatever it might be..........they will be hanging around....tempting you! But just for a short while.....and then you will start to see improvements in EVERYTHING! Clothes fit better, allergies go away, skin is radiant, joint pain subsides. We even had a fellow member get a new job from doing the Whole 30! Not just because she lost a few pounds and her clothes fit better......but because she BELIEVED IN HERSELF......for the first time! How can you convince people that YOU are what they need......if you don't believe it yourself!

I know...I ramble on......but I'm only speaking the truth! "The only easy day was yesterday" and I want you to have that mindset! Think of all the people who DONT support you! The ones that know that this is "just another diet" that you will fail at. THIS TIME........THEY ARE WRONG! Because this isn't a diet......its a new way of living! You are finally going to treat your body like something you want to live in. Like something you want to last for a while. AND I AM JUST THE GUY TO KICK YOU IN THE ASS WHEN YOU NEED SOME MOTIVATION!

I'll say up-front that I will likely only check-in during my lunch hours...I unfortunately miss a lot that way!

I was glad to read though that if you are non-compliant, you are out of the group.  I have never completed a Whole 30 (though I've started several), but have been part of plenty of groups that would allow me to complain about why I couldn't remain compliant.

So I shopped on Saturday, and spent yesterday making meatballs and meatloaf for quick go-to dinners on the nights I won't be able to cook, and also a week's worth of salad-in-the-jar for lunches.

I'm looking forward to clear, non-itchy skin, better sleep, more energy, fewer headaches, and better fitting clothes!
