To all three of you: BRAVO!  You've taken the most important step and I am right with you.  This is a series of decisions made to love yourself in a really good way - not in the "oh, I want a cappucino" way.  I have been on this road before, but need to fine tune some behaviors - and I can learn a lot from each of you who have kicked the alcohol habit....so help me out too - and I will do what I can for you.

There has been no tiger blood for me yet. I am still feeling bloated and tired and bored with my food already so I will have to make something new this weekend.

I knew knew when I started his whole 30that I wouldn't be compliant last night. I met an old friend and we made plans a month ago. I had 2 glasses of wine. The good news is that my stomach was ok . Of course I will have start again, so this is my new day 1. After reading everyone's post , now I realize how weak I sound!

I appreciate everyone's strength - so thanks to all.

Day three for me and still so ready for bed by9.  I can't wait for tiger blood since it has been awhile since I felt that well.  Tried to put on a pair of slacks this am, and it was so depressing.  I am 15 lbs above where I feel good and now can't wear some of my skinnier clothes....oh crud.
I prepare/dress some kale and keep compliant chicken salad on hand....a fallback breakfast when I am sick of hardboil d eggs and homemade mayo.
had lunch out today w a fri me who gladly went to the  shish kabob spot....was really hungry late on by found some leftover coleslaw in the fridge...whew. Nomnompaleo chick wings for dinner....doing great so far but now, well, off to bed.  Tiger blood, hurry up! (I know, ten more days at least)

hang in there fellow campers.  Let's get each other thru.

Just started today, 9/12, so I am right behind you.  I am in Florida and could not start due to hurricane, too emotional. I didn't realize yesterday was my last drink.  Have bought 3 books and finished reading It Starts with Food by flashlight due to hurricane Irma.  My major issue is just plain fatigue.  I exercise a lot, at least 5-6 times a week.  I just want some energy.  I have done similar programs and know I felt better and looked better (flatter stomach, brighter skin) but then I go back to eating the crap.  Not really looking to lose weight, but 10 pounds would be an added plus.  Good luck. ANd I would love to hear about any great, easy, not spicy recipes, especially for breakfast.

Technically you're right. You're supposed to eat your fruit, not drink it. But here's the rub; MiniMe is only 7 years old. That's 2nd grade. Her world is filled with people who eat cereal for breakfast, pizza at lunch, put cheese on their tacos, and make YouTube videos of candy eating challenges. She has stood up to and stayed strong against all of those temptations, and that was just Day 1 & 2! I'm so, so, so proud of her resolve. Having said that, there are no other alternatives for breakfast for her. She despises eggs. She doesn't just gag on them; it's a gross but impressive stream of projectile vomit. Yes, she could just sit and eat a banana, have a small cup of almond milk, and chew on some ice instead of putting it in a smoothie, but that doesn't fill her up as effectively as the thick concoction that I may have snuck some other "things" (vegetables) into. "I want kale for breakfast" said no kid ever. So if they're gonna put me in Whole30 jail for breakfast smoothies, I guess I'll hafta take one for the team. LOL!!

I started my first Whole 30 July 12. Had a slip up with a piece of bread. Re-started 5 days later and completed it. My husband joined me on this journey. It has been very revealing to both us. Never before had I even thought to cut out food groups such as dairy. I did this primarily for health reasons but we both lost weight and feel we are where we should be for a healthy weight. Our physical and mental health has greatly improved. I also have kept a journal. I am restarting today as I notice some foods are slowly slipping back into our diets in a non healthy way. (I put the peanut butter M&Ms in the high cabinet next to the Vodka, the alcohol is not the problem, it's the continual reaching for a handful of the M&Ms that is.) Learning That if it's in the house I will eat it when the urge strikes). Total elimination is the only thing that works for me. Moderation does not work at all for me. So here I go. Cleaning out the pantry, trying new recipes and trying to stay on track. Thank you for your support.

So great to see how well everyone did yesterday!!! AND we had even more w30'ers come on board! This is gonna be fun!!!
DAY 2 = "THE HANGOVER" according to the w30 timeline, but hey, WE MADE IT THROUGH DAY 1!!!! SUCCESS!!!
To my surprise I actually made it through day 1 easily! I really think the support and accountability here helps so much! Even the simple act of beginning the day typing out my goals and intent (as well as facing head on what weaknesses I'm feeling) is HUGE in helping me keep my mindset where it needs to be! Big talk for day 2, right . @aussiegal...I, too, am an emotional eater and am working to find alternative methods of stress management, boredom busting, and anxiety squelching. Oh, and have I mention that I really do not enjoy cooking??? And that I have teenage boys to feed (w30 is not their cup of tea, lol). I am trying to not cook multiple meals though...I cook the w30 meal I'm going to eat then whip up an extra side for them that is non-compliant. Temptation lives around every corner, right???
In addition to this healthy change to dietary components and habits I know I also need to add some fitness enhancements into my day. On a regular basis. This will be a bit of a struggle for me I'm not a complete stranger to the gym, but we're not exactly besties What are you guys doing to address that side of things???
I know w30 is about health not weight but let's be honest...we want BOTH better health AND weight loss...am I right??
Can't wait to hear from you all today!!! Have a successful one!

    Hi all,
I'd love to join this thread as I'm starting day 1 (again!!) today 12th.  I've been faffing around and having false starts  for the last couple of weeks - just lost my mojo in there somewhere. My last thoughts were about doing W30 for a week and having our family day Sunday a "free" day but then I realized I really need to do the full 30 day reset and maybe look at the options then.  I really want to commit to the 30 days so I've dragged out all my W30 books and am trying to get my head in the right head space.  There is alot happening in my life atm but then seriously when isn't there stuff happening in everyone's life? and I know I'm an emotional eater so....say no more really.   I find I also miss my wine and cheese and it IS super hard @50andstillhere!! I feel you there!   I have done whole 30 before and felt  sooo much better from the inside out.  And I have also discovered that I'm not a good moderator of foods when moving back into real life.  Would really love the support to get me thru.  It's going to be a challenge but I need/want that healthy relationship with food not the dependency / comfort / emotional eating thingy that I'm back in.  Good luck to all of us!

Hi Lady49er! Are you just having the smoothie for breakfast? If you are it seems to me like you are missing out on the recommended protein sources or meat/fish/eggs. I know that almonds do contain protein but not to the same quantities as you will find in meat/fish/eggs. I am in no way an expert but I would imagine this could be part of why you are hungry?

Yay for all if you starting today! MiniMe and I started yesterday, and it was ahhhh-MAZING!!! Breakfast is easy because both of us love banana and almond milk smoothies, and we added cocoa powder yesterday and strawberries today. Lunch was some really yummy chicken apple sausage eaten cold with sweet peppers and pistachios. I set it up like a charcuterie tray (minus cheese, of course!), so it was more interesting. She and I were able to have "football snacks" while Daddy and Sissy ate their junk. But guess what ... they wanted what we were having! What???? Healthy family eating?? Whoa! Dinner was the most amazing Whole30 compliant Olive Garden Zuppa Toscana. Daddy and Sissy also had small plates of pasta, but MiniMe and I stuck to our guns. Neither of us got hungry all day.
Proud Momma moment: MiniMe and her sister were over at a friend's house most of the day. They were making YouTube videos and decided to do a candy challenge. The mom took them to the dollar store for candy, and MiniMe politely declined everything. The mom knew about her diet and was texting and asking me if she could have gum or anything, but of course that's out. She bought her a little toy instead since she's couldn't have candy. Yay for fellow mom support!!! Super proud of my little one being so dedicated to this.

Breakfast went well - last night I prepped, so it made it so much easier and faster. I am lucky I don't drink milk or coffee, so it was the usual beautiful morning of green tea (no additives or flavoring) for me. Hubs does drink coffee, so he had it black. He says, "It's alright. It's not killing me."

A note - my husband hunts (for food, not for sport) and we eat venison (deer). Well, he took some of it to the meat processor to be made into sausage which I thought would be amazing with his eggs (I don't eat eggs), our avocado and sweet potato; like a hash. Well, last night I was slicing the sausage and I saw it had spices. It smelled amazing, of course, but I was thinking, "Hmmm this seems like SUMMER sausage." Summer sausage has sugar in it and the spices they use - I don't know if they're Whole 30 compliant. Had a total, "OH NO!" moment. Hubs called the place this morning and confirmed - they add sugar. So these beautiful sausages are out for our Whole 30. I'm so bummed. A word to everyone - we usually process our own meat, but this one time it was easier to have the processor do sausages. If you hunt/forage - indicate to your processor NO SUGAR or anything else in what they make for you.
I'll be using venison steaks and chopping them finely for some of our breakfasts going forward. Pictured is hubs' first Whole30 - for myself I fried an egg really, really hard and ate, aka choked down the white (I HATE eggs). Adjustments being made going forward.
Hope everyone is having a great start to the morning!

Hi! I am starting tomorrow (Sept 11...I am sucker for Monday start days lol). I once tried Whole30 a couple years ago but was ill prepared, was living with my parents and did not have enough $$ to buy the food. Now, I have the time and resources to commit to the no-excuses kick in the butt I need to meet my health goals: i want to lose inches and pounds, feel less bloated, feel more confident in my appearance (the bloating makes me feel preggers), less oily skin, improve performance in my running plan, get less winded during fitness classes like zumba, have fewer PMS symptoms and just feel better about myself and my ability to manage my cravings. I really hope to find and practice better ways of managing stress that do NOT involve inhaling cookies, fried food, pizza, chocolate, ice cream and the list goes on. I want to get on the journey towards food freedom.

I am with you all.  I tried starting last week, thinking Incould do a "relaxed" approach....you know, just a little bit of goat cheese in the salad....etc.  DOES NOT WORK FOR ME, at least not until I have finished 30 or longer...I am at the top of my weight range and feel tired a lot of the time.  I want to lose the pounds, but mostly want to just FEEL BETTER....those famous NSVs!  My husband likes to eat cleanly also, but he has enormous discipline, grrrrr...so he won't protest when I work the program, although I will make some slight changes for his dishes....like adding cheese at the end...but not on mine.  My biggest challenges are the hour or so when I get home from work.  Hubs  pours wine (I do kombucha on my 30) but I am also inclined to snack on nuts then....which is another thing that did me in last week....cashews from Costco are roasted in peanut oil...non compliant!!
so, need to go buy ghee and a crap ton of veggies to make this work.  LAdy49er, your post really touched my heart.  How great that you are in it for your daughter and giving her a shot at a better relationship with her body and well being.  BRAVO to both of her.  Tell her I think she ROCKS!!!

let.s go, Margot, Sytera and Lady....this will be a GREAT chance to learn and be strong.

i wanted to let you know I have jumped to another group starting on the 11th.  I was too relaxed in my start up this past week....and made a couple of rookie errors...so I am starting over.
