evaq got a reaction from Fernsk in Anyone else doing the Whole30 in Canada?
Hey, late to the party (as usual for me!) but for any T-dot'ers:

Sobeys and Metro both have compliant Italian sausages. Sobeys: look for their own house brand (Sensations). Metro: look for their house brand (Naturally Raised). But double check the ingredients list to make sure they haven't changed the formula and snuck in any sugar or wheat (breadcrumbs). I find that having even a tiny bit of sausage (1/3 piece) with my eggs makes my tummy feel much more satisfied.

How is everyone doing?  I can't believe we are 27 days in!!!  Any thoughts about what you are reintroducing first and if you are going the fast lane or the slow route as mentioned in the Whole 30 book?  I think I will be taking it slow.  I am going to start my reintroduction with a glass of Chambord.  I have always wanted to try it and my husband bought it Day 2 into my Whole 30 so I have been staring at it all month long.
I have a pretty good idea of what I am sensitive to due to allergy testing but I would like to know how sensitive I am.  Example: Can I eat 1/2 piece of sourdough bread or should I just steer clear of it all together.  I won't introduce gluten until later but it will be nice to kind of test where the limits are with some of the items my system is sensitive to.
I am reading Food Freedom Forever and LOVE it!  I have enjoyed all of the Hartwig's books and find them very informative and encouraging.
    Meals for this week include:
Whole 30 Meatloaf with whipped sweet potatoes, salad and steamed green beans
Chicken Tagine (with rice for the family and with salad for me)
Salmon with homemade lemon mayo, salad, roasted beets and roasted potatoes.
Potroast cooked mexican style with lime juice to use to top our taco salad with.
Bacon wrapped chicken breast, veggie tray, rice for kids, salad, berries
Chicken and veggie soup with salad
    Have a great week!

I can relate. My son gave me two bottles of wine for Christmas and they are still unopened. I know they will wait. I also still have a few pieces of chocolate with macadamia nuts that a co-worker brought me from Hawaii and they, too can wait. I have also made pancakes and waffles for our daughter for breakfast and have been able to resist, because I am focused on what I want and need for my body.

I have been feeling really good. Lots of NSVs for me... sleeping great at night, more energy, skin is better, inflammation is down, less moody :), just overall I feel awesome.  I made the kids no bakes the other night and didn't cheat, even though they smelled divine. I appreciated how wonderful the aroma was and then didn't think about it... it was great.
I didn't reintroduce properly during my last Whole 30 in July so I am hoping to do it right this time and not just go out and eat everything in sight.  I am reading Food Freedom Forever and just so appreciate Melissa's honesty and her healthy way of approaching diet/life.  I have never "dieted" before so this reset with Whole 30 (first  in July and again now) are the first extreme things I have ever done in regards to my eating habits.  I have always been fairly small but after six babies and now that I am nearing 40 my metabolism is definitely different.  Combine getting older with food allergies/sensitivities and daily life and I knew my body needed some TLC.  After doing a lot of research I settled on Whole 30.  I just love the Hartwig's honesty, their research, and the way they view the body as a whole and how to care for it.  The thing that gripped me the most was when they emphasized that this was not a weight loss plan and how it was more about improving overall health.  For me, living in a culture that is so weight obsessed, that was a breath of fresh air.
Only 9 more days till reintroduction.  You guys are doing great!

Hello all!  HUGE NSV for me last week... I made it through a week in the land of CHEESE CURDS, spent 15 hours in various airports on the 15th, lived in a hotel room for 4 days and, because I was prepared, I was able to stay 100% compliant and I feel FANTASTIC!!
Happy day 21, everyone!  Keep up the great work!

If you feel like your Whole30 progress isn’t showing you results fast enough, I’d like to share a thought I had this morning.  It occurred to me that a huge NSV for me was the feeling of control I’ve been having.  Everyone has so much in their life that they have zero control over.  Those things we can’t control affect us, our lives, our loved ones, and we have to deal with the fallout every day.  Each day we have to, once again, reconcile ourselves and accept them.  Controlling what you eat via the Whole 30, and doing it day after day, has slowly given me a feeling of power that I quite enjoy.  It resonates.  I CAN control something that affects me in a very big way.  It feels GOOD.

Just to clarify in case you misread her post, and for other folks who may see this post --- baking SODA is ok as it's just sodium bicarbonate, it's baking POWDER that has the cornstarch.

This is my 3rd whole 30 (I've done 1 for the past 3 years) and every time I do it, I'm reminded of the kind of power sugar has over me. It never gets easier for me because over the course of the year, I inevitably give in and let my sweet tooth run rampant and make some not-so-excellent choices. So when I do a whole 30, I'm extra vigilant about not letting sugar/fruit weasel it's way back onto my plate. This has to be a full-on reset for me. Fruit is optional in very small qtys (1/4 to 1/3 of a cup) with meals. I usually choose berries/apple. And limited sweet potatoes and very few if any nuts and definitely no snacking (fruit, larbars, RX bars or otherwise) unless it's an emergency. I sound kind of hardline but that's completely based on my relationship with sugar. It's a formidable dragon for me.
Doing a whole 30 makes me very much aware of all my crutches (for lack of a better word) and better prepares/equips me about how my body feels when it's happily fueled vs how my body feels when my cravings are making my food choices. It's easy to forget or blur the difference. When I'm done my 30 days this round, I plan to loosen up a bit ie strict 80% of the time, relaxed 20%. But I'll try my best to keep any kind of sugar consumption reduced dramatically.
ps. Are you getting enough healthy fat in your meals? That'll play a critical role in satiety (and curb snack cravings).

Saved the eggs! Since I have the luxury of working from home I cook everything to order  I did save some leftover sauces.
Once I calmed down from the initial freakout I realized I can make this work. I have a mini fridge that my eggs and sauces are living in along with a 2 expensive cuts of beef that I shoved in the little freezer compartment. I can have eggs every morning and if I have to I can shop everyday and store the leftovers from Meal 2 for Meal 3.
On a positive note I found the part I (hopefully) need at a local store so if my husband is able to fix it tonight I may have a working fridge sooner rather then later.

Amen! I have such a huge sweet tooth. I turn to sugar to celebrate, when I have a bad day, when I'm bored, or any other reason. I love how during W30 I stop thinking about an after-dinner treat and other ways of coping. I really want to bring those different responses into the future (distract, take a walk, etc.) that I never seem to follow through with otherwise... This is my second (or partial third, since I did a "short one" once) go -around, and for me, it's been the most positive, or easiest, or something. I still feel energized and hopeful to see what improvements come each day, and not counting the seconds until it's done. Nut- hooray for this group: we're 1/2-way there!!!!! Congrats!

Can't believe tomorrow is Day 14... whoo hoo, yay for us! I'm also starting to see an upturn, not the "flip the switch" kind of feeling but rather smaller things. I'm feeling less puffy  and definitely have more energy. Headaches are gone and while the pizza brought in by our Finance team today looked REALLY good I'm generally doing well with cravings. Like most of you, did a lot of cooking this weekend but with it being the 3rd time through the rodeo it was easier knowing what works and what doesn't. Found this recipe for chicken/sweet potato hash browns and tried it out this weekend, it was yummmmmyyyyy and an easy quick-hit for lunch on Saturday:
    http://www.realfoodwithdana.com/chicken-hash-browns-the-healing-kitchen-review/
Also made the Whole30 ranch dressing to add to things since I haven't been getting enough fat. That required an epic search of the kitchen/pantry/basement for my immersion blender that I knew I had but somehow had gotten tucked away somewhere by mysterious house gremlins. After 30 minutes of searching then finally recruiting my husband to look everywhere I'd already checked he found it. So more immersion blender recipes are on the horizon for next weekend.
And a funny today... a co-worker made a stop by my office today to tell me that she thought I was looking really good ("not that you didn't before"... ). She thought my face looked thinner and my skin looked great. I didn't tell her that I happened to actually wear foundation today, but took the compliment and ran. Because I'm FEELING better!

Had some GREAT food this weekend and I wanted to share a few recipes...
    http://coorec.com/p/savory-smashed-sweet-potatoes-with-lemon-garlic-aioli
    http://www.planksloveandguacamole.com/2015/01/balsamic-and-basil-marinated-steak-with.html
The sauces (lemon garlic aioli and roasted red pepper pesto) really steal the show. And you'll have plenty left over to add to other meals. The aioli and pesto can make any veggies or protein to die for.
Also, I discovered that Trader Joes now has a complaint turkey breast lunch meat option (their organic line which is just turkey, salt, and water). I love doing turkey wraps (turkey with a bit of mayo stuffed with greens and rolled up) for a quick and easy lunch option.
Can't believe we are almost half way there!

Guys, we're 1/3 through! Woo hoo!!!!
I'm getting tired of my own cooking and eating the same food but I only have myself to blame since I do a lot of big batch cooking to simplify the shopping/prep/cooking. And I'm happy that my running/workouts haven't suffered this time around. I remember how tough and heavy my legs/lower body felt when I did my first whole 30 and tried to run.
Stay strong and keep up the good work everyone!

@DeeZaftig Most people use coconut aminos for stir frys - 1 bottle goes a long way. You can find it in health food stores and specialty stores. I live in Toronto and can find it in all my health food stores plus Bulk Barn. If you live in the US, I know that both Wegmans and Trader Joe's carry it. TJ even has its own house brand which is a lot cheaper (2.99) vs standard $7-$8 per bottle.

@elizabeth.joan Do you live near a Trader Joe's? They carry their own house brand and it's a lot more reasonable (I think $2.99?) than most health food stores (which is where you usually find it). It's also sometimes labelled as "raw soy-free seasoning sauce". The ingredients should be: organic coconut tree sap, sea salt.

Just started today too. Hi everyone! This will be my 2nd whole 30 (first one was in 2015). I definitely need to rein things in and hit the reset button for myself. I'm trying to take the things/recipes I learned from my first whole 30 and hopefully that'll make things a little smoother.
ps. I now have an instant pot so sweet potatoes, beets and long/slow braises on tough cuts of meat are a breeze. That will definitely make things easier.
