If you are craving something sweet you may want to avoid the larabars until it passes. It may just make matters worse (speaking from experience). I know for some even fruit can make it worse but for some it may help.
I have found the peppermint or cinnamon tea has helped me.
Hope the sugar craving passes quickly!!!

Hi last October I did a whole 30 with my husband. It went great and I learned a lot about my relationship with food. I have been staying gluten, dairy, and mainly sugar free. I have however been lack with food prep, eating 3x a day, and having alcohol on the weekends. I decided this am that it was time again.
I have decided to call it a whole? Mainly because I felt a "pressure" for the day it was and for how much longer I had left etc.
I have decided to take it day by day.
What I hope to get out of this:
    - Stop by obsession with the scale. Who care how much I weigh as long as I feel good ( but I would love to lower my body fat and tighten up!)
    - eat 3 balanced meals and stop snacking out of boredom.
    - get back to doing Sunday food prep so I can have a successful week ahead.
    - eat until full and eat more veggies!!

    Coffee black x2
    Wo. Yoga
M1: pork and apple/coco cauliflowe/spaghetti squash with ghee
    Walk 2 miles
M2: balsamic chicken/carrots/large kale salad with almond slivers

I was super hungry in the afternoon yesterday. Will watch this to see if I need more food. Made the salmon cakes from the book. This is one of my favorite meals. May some extra to have on hand!!
Sleep has been stellar. I am falling asleep super quickly which has always been an issue for me. Waking up withou the alarm clock and have been getting on average 8 hrs a night.
Today, I wasn't feeling my wo so I stopped the DVD and did some stretching instead. My calves and feet have been aching me since the start of the whole30
Trying to listen to my body, instead of abusing it. Off to walk the dog before it gets to hot here today!

Haven't checked in here due to taking a break from my cell phone and computers: that was extremely nice! Decided on sat am that I was feeling tied to my phone etc and needed a break. I may try to do that every weekend!
Today is day7. I got up early to do some food prep for the start of the week. I cooked up some veggies some ground pork and apple for breakfast and have a Sunday dinner ready for the crock pot later.
Past 2 nights I have slept fantastic! Ankle/foot cramp is a bit better but still there. it did not wake me up last night though.
Stayed strong Both Friday and Saturday, and feel ready for another week.
    Goals for this upcoming week
    - try to stay off scale. This is a work in progress.
    - wo 5x a week and take dog for a walk daily.
    - continue whole? and make sure I am ready for success with food prep and ready to go meals.
    - try to get a bit more veggies in at every meal.
    - do yoga at least once this week.
-try to figure out if I should go back to school in November or not (for medical billing or medical assisting).
    - stay positive and get at least 7 hrs plus a night of sleep.

Feet/leg cramping can be a sign of potassium deficiency. Add more potassium rich foods, like dark leafy greens, acorn squash, salmon, avocados, mushrooms and bananas.

    Here I go again!

I started my 1st Whole 30 in January of this year & made it to Day 21. This time around my husband is joining me. We're taking a family vacation to Hawaii on October 2nd to celebrate our 10th Wedding Anniversary. We want to feel & hopefully look our best! We have a 4 year old who will be doing a modified version along with us. My husband is very active & is big into Cross Fit. I'm moderately active & hope to increase my activity after getting it together this first week. It took me about 7 days to start feeling good the last time. I took it easy that first week by walking the dog & running around with my little girl. After that I was able to jump back in to Spin & Boot Camp classes. I felt fantastic last time & I'm looking forward to that again. My energy, sleep & mood(s) were amazing!

M1: Hot Unsweetened Green Tea, Sweet Potato, Mushroom, Bell Pepper + Onion Hash sauteed in Ghee with 2 Fried Eggs + a handful of Organic Strawberries.

M2: Larabar, Hard Boiled Egg + Cashews (I will be out until 1 p.m. & won't have a chance to sit down to lunch. I will grab some additional protein when I return home.)

M3: Roasted Pork Tenderloin with Mango Salsa on Broccoli Slaw.

Update: I was hungry around 9:30 a.m., so tomorrow I will add in some avocado to my breakfast. I ate 2 slices of TJ's roast beef and 1/2 an avocado around 1:30 p.m. I knew my M2 above wouldn't satisfy me for long. Dinner was awesome! The recipe for the pork usually calls for brown sugar, so I subbed apple sauce. It worked great and the broccoli slaw tossed with homemade mayo was fantastic! All in all I feel satisfied. I stayed busy which kept my thoughts off food and WINE;) I made up a batch of homemade mayo and poached a few chicken breasts for some quick meals. Tomorrow is chicken stock day! I feel a sore throat coming on and I want to make sure I can whip up some soup if needed.

I am not a fan of eggs either. I will usually go for some leftovers of dinner. Sometimes I take ground pork, apple, coco butter, cinnam and mix it all up. I find it has a bit of a sweet taste which is sometimes nice for breakfast. I will have that with a veggie and be fine til meal 2.
    Hope this helps.

My mom is always concerned I won't get enough calcium (um, broccoli?) or vitamin D (um, go outside?)
It's just a mom being protective. It's really hard to overeat beef and vegetables when there is no added sugar. Your body will tell you when to stop!

Day 32. I am still plugging away
I decided not to do measurements and the scale just yet. To be honest I am not feeling like the improvements are there so instead of getting disappointed I will wait a bit longer.
Been going to bed at 9pm every night this week. Rest is needed.
Made the best chicken you ever tasted from well fed last night it was so nice and moist! I'm not a huge chicken fan these days so it was nice!! Will be a keeper for sure. If nothing else this past 30 days has really made me enjoy food differently and enjoy cooking it too!!

Hello lovely people of the Whole9 Forum! I am in such a wonderful mood, nothing can bring me down!!!
I finished my first Whole30 yesterday and my goodness it has been a wonderful journey. I am so thankful for Melissa and Dallas for creating this program and I am so fortunate that I stumbled upon the website and clicked the link to purchase It Starts with Food on Amazon! Best decision I have made in years (maybe ever?)
I just blogged about my journey on Tumblr, so please check it out! freckledfoodie.tumblr.com
Also follow me if you are on tumblr
I posted my Before & After photos on there and I wasn't sure if it was appropriate on this forum so I decided not to, at least for now... but I AM SO PROUD OF MYSELF and I can't wait to help as many other people as I can who want to make the journey and take control of their relationship with food and move towards better health!
Thanks for everyone on here for being so supportive. Not only of me but of every other person on here. It makes such a difference when you have support, regardless of whether you personally know your supporters or not! Keep up the good work friends

    My before:
Life was just sort of okay, maybe a little bleh. I felt like I couldn't really complain, but kept feeling something was missing. I had my “health†after all.
I got really, suddenly, very sick in 2003. I had just graduated from college, was working in a research lab at a university, and was getting ready to start a PhD program. I woke up one day feeling as if an elephant was sitting on my chest, and through the day, my heart would just start racing for no reason. I ended up being admitted for almost a week due to a pulmonary embolism and a blood clot in my leg. Instead of getting better, I got sicker. I lost like 15 pounds in a few short weeks. Everything made me sick. I had no energy, just taking a shower made me feel like I was 80. I had horrible joint pains that would wake me in the night. My stomach felt like someone was reaching in and just squeezing. It took just a few months (though they did not feel short, and racked up 20+ emergency room visits) to be diagnosed with Crohn's Disease. The next 4 years were pretty rough, regular admits to the hospital, liquid only for months to rest my intestines, medications with side effects that were very real and very scary, and a total redefinition of my life. A trip to the grocery store became my big outing for a week. I was “disabled†and Social Security. And when you're in your 20s, that's not a good thing at all.
But then, I started to feel a little better. I have not been admitted for a few years now. I was able to start working, just a sedentary desk job to ease back into the work force. Not exactly the job I had dreamed of and worked towards through school and college. I take one immune suppresser these days, not 48 pills of 5 different medications like I have in the past. I started to eat more and more foods as time went by.
But I didn't feel good, not as good as I knew I could feel. I just wasn't deathly sick. So, I started searching, and wondering. I wanted to feel great, to be the healthiest person I could be even with a disease they don't know how to cure. I wanted to be happy and full of energy. I wanted to start my day ready to go, not wondering when I could take a nap. I wanted to not be irritable and almost anxious feeling. And I always wondered, why isn't food a part of what we talk about when I see my specialists? When I was really sick, it took the GI specialist almost a year before he suggested cutting out dairy as many people with Crohn's become lactose intolerant!?!
Besides wanting to feel better, I wanted to be healthy. The medications I have taken to treat my Crohns can cause cancer (not to mention the 20+ cat-scans). That's not something I want. My dad died of a brain stem cancer when he was only 42. Two years ago I cared for my mother in my home while pancreatic cancer killed her. I have a sister that had ovarian and cervical cancer before age 45. I take cancer risks very seriously.
This Is How I found Whole30:
I stumbled on the paleo diet. The science geek in me that longed for that PhD in Molecular Biology fell flat out in love with Robb Wolf's podcasts. And I can't resist snark (and he's a little snarky). I started listening, in order, to podcasts from 2 years ago. I bought his book and started moving towards a Paleo way of eating and sleeping. And one day, he had Melissa and Dallas from the Whole9 on. So I checked them out online. And I ran out that night and bought ISWF. I read that in about 2 days. And then I read it again. And thought “yeah, why not today?†So I started working on my sister and may have forced her to read it. I'd already been cooking more Paleo for my husband. I told him he was welcome to join in, as all the food in the house was going to be Whole30 compliant. And I started on September 19th.
Now that I've finished my Whole30:
I could cry. This didn't just change my life, it's blown my mind.
I've been so sick and so tired before. I thought just the absence of horrible pain was maybe going to be what I settled for. That I was going to settle for a less than dreamy job because maybe I wasn't healthy enough to go for more.
I love reasons, not rules. I have loved science and experimentation since I was old enough to read. I want proof. And now I AM THE PROOF.
I feel so good. My sleep (I need 9 hours and I refuse to feel bad about that) is restful. My energy is even and high. I wake up excited for the day, even just regular old workdays. Even when I'm tired, it's not a bone-numbing cranky fatigue. It's just simply tired. My mood, well, I didn't think I had mood issues before. But I must have, because I feel awesome now. I'm happy and calm and just great. When people ask me how I'm doing, I'm working on saying the words “fabulousâ€, “great†and “wonderfulâ€. I'm not good, I'm better than that and I want to share that. I eat. A lot. And I love it. I love eating fat and meats and vegetables. I feel satisfied. And I can tell I'm healthier. Joint pains I've dealt with for years are gone. My skin is just nicer. I feel confident this way of eating and sleeping and caring for my body is a way to battle cancer, that I'm arming my genes in the best way I can.
My body just feels good, like every cell in my body is rejoicing in some serious sunshine and rainbows.
I don't know how much weight I lost because this journey moved me to banish the scale (it's in the basement, and likely on its way to the landfill instead of being donated). I know that my clothes fit better. I know that I feel like dancing. And running. And lifting some heavy stuff.
What's next? Well, we're going to keep eating like this. I'm going to follow the re-introduction plan to check out dairy. But I don't miss any grains. Maybe someday I'll be tempted, but I'll wait for that day. I'm never going to drink pop again (I had an unhealthy relationship with a certain diet soda). I will also follow the plan to check out some legumes. And honestly, I want the solid data from doing a re-introduction.
With my husband's support, I'm looking at a graduate program. But instead of molecular biology in a pure research lab, I'm going to pursue a degree in food science and nutrition. Because, I BELIEVE, It Starts With Food.
Thank you, to everyone on the forum for their support. To my sister Sarah for sharing the cooking and the cleaning. To my husband for coming along for the ride.To Dallas and Melissa for sharing with all of us.

Slept so much better last night. Got in 8 hrs. Can't believe the end of the 2nd week is approaching. I have a family luncheon at my brother in laws house on Sunday. I will pack my own lunch for me and my husband. This is normally for me, but I am sure there will be a ton of questions as to why son is eating this way! I plan on making a nice pork roast on Saturday, and brings the extra leftovers for Sundays lunch. Trying a new recipe. It looks really good form Clothes that make the girl blog. I think all of her food looks amazing. I just bought her book. I have to get cooking some of her other recipes.
    Yesterdays eats.
    No workout in am
    coffee
    M1: ground pork and apple/sp mash/roasted cauliflower
    walk 2miles.
M2: chili on spinach bed. I was still hungry so I had a 1/2 spoonful of coconut butter
    walk: 1.5 miles
M3: cajun spiced flounder with peppers/onions/tomatoes/sweet pot mash/roasted brussel sprouts.
I have noticed I eat a lot of onions/peppers/tomatoes. I am going to back off a bit next week and see if my bloat subsides a bit. I was thinking that I may need to follow the autoimmune protocol for a while after this.......will see how I feel at the end of 30 days. I have been thinking I may continue with this whole 30 or do a autoimmune.
