What am I looking for reaction-wise?

So dairy seems fine, but gluten! Holy smokes! Cramps, bloating, sinus congestion, headache, fogginess, etc. Yuck!
  2. I finished my first Whole30 on Monday 10/29. On Tuesday I had yogurt at breakfast, a glass of milk, cheese at lunch, and ice cream after dinner. Wednesday I felt completely fine all day. On Wednesday I fried my sweet potatoes and eggs in butter, drank a glass of milk at lunch, had butter on my potato at dinner, and ice cream after dinner. This morning (Thursday) I feel a little bloated. I have not had any dairy so far today. I'm thinking the bloating is probably a dairy reaction, right? I don't have any other issues like headache, congestion, nausea, etc. Should I have a clean day today and try wheat tomorrow? Or should I try dairy more?

Women Probs- This is gross but I need to ask!

My last two attempts with hormonal birth control (Mirena in 2008 - 2010 and pills in 2012) have been disasters. I did well on the hormone-free Paragard IUD (2010 - 2011). When I tried pills five months ago I had to stop after 6 weeks because of random spotting and just feeling sick. Even if my husband hadn't had a vasectomy, I can't imagine using hormonal bc ever again. I'd have gotten another Paragard. My body feels so clean and balanced now. I don't want to "pollute" it.

Final Stats After My First Whole30

I felt like my thyroid issues had really shut down my metabolism and that my endocrine system was just out of balance. I felt sluggish, jittery, foggy, and depressed and no matter what I did I could not lose weight. Eating the Whole30 way has helped me feel balanced, clean, and healthy in a way I haven't in a long time. I had a physical last week and I told my doctor about it. She spoke positively and said she has a patient with Hashimoto's who has thus far managed the disease by eating this way without a need for medication. I don't know that I'll ever be able to get off my meds, but I think changing my diet is allowing my body to use them more effectively.
  5. I'm a 32-year-old mother of six. My youngest is 5 months old. I chose to do Whole30 because I have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis and I wanted to see if drastically changing my diet could help. It did. I lost 11.5 pounds (~7% of my starting weight). I lost almost 9 inches off my body (mostly from my belly/hips). I gained a huge appreciation for Real Food and how great my body feels and performs when I feed it properly.

    Reintroduction Starting 10/30

I started reintroduction today, too. The reason I did Whole30 was to determine which foods (if any) have a negative impact on my body. I will test all of them because I want to know the answer for each group even if I stay mostly paleo in the future. :-) I'm trying dairy today. I bought ice cream yesterday to try tonight and it was tricky to find one that didn't have some kind of corn product in it. If dairy agrees with me, I will probably just make my own in the future. Organic cream sweetened with organic maple syrup sounds pretty good. I might try that with coconut milk, too. :-)

    My First Try at Reintoduction

Oops, I guess I wasn't logged in for that comment. :-P

    Losing too much, too fast?

I'm feeling so much better this morning! I made sure to snack before bedtime and I didn't wake up shaky. I made sweet potatoes as part of my breakfast. I grated some sweet potato yesterday and put it in the fridge so that I could easily and quickly cook some in coconut oil today (like hash browns).

    Losing too much, too fast?

Thanks. I had cut out eating after dinner when I started Whole 30. My baby does still nurse at night, so I should put that snack back in. I will beef up my lunches, too. I don't have much meal prep time available at lunch, which is why I've been eating salad. The best solution is probably to make more at dinner so that I have enough for lunch the next day.

    Losing too much, too fast?

I'm eating until I'm full and snacking in between meals. Maybe I'm still not eating enough? Breakfast: 3 eggs scrambled in coconut milk 3 strips of bacon 1 orange Morning Snack: Coconut milk smoothie: 1/2 can coconut milk, a banana or two, a handful of strawberries, and a few chunks of pineapple (sometimes I do avocado in the smoothie with coconut milk and a few pieces of fruit) Handful of nuts Lunch: A few cups of dark, leafy greens topped with hard boiled eggs or crumbled bacon and 1/2 an avocado Sometimes leftover dinner, too, if I still feel hungry Afternoon Snack: Coconut flakes with more nuts Chopped, raw veggies Dinner: Chicken, pork, or beef Dark green, leafy salad topped with 1/2 an avocado Sometimes sweet potatoes
  11. Today is Day 8. Yesterday and today I've been really shaky in the mornings. Eating an orange stops the shakes enough to be able to scramble up some coconut milk eggs. What is more concerning is that I'm down a full dress size in clothing. I am 5'7" and started at 165. I've lost probably something in the 7 lb. range this first week. I'm eating a lot, including huge green salads at lunch and dinner as well as meat, nuts, and coconut milk throughout the day. I haven't been starving myself, I've just been eating healthy food. I do have an autoimmune disease (Hashimoto's thyroiditis), which was why I started Whole 30. My pre-diagnosis normal weight was 140. My lowest adult weight (21 - 25 years old) was 125 due to a fast metabolism. I ate whatever I wanted whenever i wanted and did not gain weight. I gave birth four months ago and am exclusively breastfeeding, which burns ~500 calories per day. I have not been exercising this week. I don't expect to continue to lose this rapidly, but I am worried that what I have lost isn't safe! It does seem to be fat that's missing rather than muscle, but it's still alarming and I wonder if the morning shakiness is related to the rapid weightloss. Thoughts?

    Pumpkin-Themed Birthday Potluck--What to bring?

Chili sounds like a great idea. My sister-in-law is a master baker and she will be bringing some truly delicious-sounding things. Must stay strong! :-)
  13. My dad is turning 60 and my mom is throwing a pumpkin-themed birthday dinner. She is requesting family to bring pumpkin-based dishes to share. My husband and I are on Day 6 of Whole30, so we need ideas using compliant ingredients. Nobody in my family is remotely paleo. Grains, dairy, and sugar will almost certainly be in every dish. Ideally what we bring will be enough to satisfy ourselves and prevent us from being tempted by my mother's good cooking. :-) Anybody have some favorite Whole30 pumpkin recipes? :-)

    Halloween Party Menu - Suggestions?

I'm a newbie to Paleo and am only on Day 6 of my Whole30. However, I am the mother of six children. We hand out little tubs of Play Doh. We've done this for the past few years. The kids all seem to like that and not feel ripped off. You can buy 80-packs at Costco. My kids play with the leftovers. When we handed out candy, my husband and I would eat the leftovers. Play Doh is better. :-P Hopefully someone will answer your food questions. :-)
