Thanks for the encouraging words, Susabella! Gina, I love love love your new profile picture. It's a great shot! IMO who cares if you're eating paleo/W30/oompa-loompa/whatever style, as long as you're feeling good and healthy and satisfied... that's what you came to learn and get to. XO keep going & refining the Gina Plan. JenX, sorry you're having the GI issues. I hate that! Dairy is no good for me either, makes me feel IBS-like & always scouting out the nearest bathroom. I hated feeling like that!! So happy for your chips management. Nice work!! Just found out that one of the local supermarket's deli carries a roasted sweet potato/carrot/squash salad with only tarragon, olive oil, and S&P. YAY! One more starchy veg side dish to add to my rotation! also got some beef kabobs. Looking forward to dinner tonight!

JenX - So sorry to hear about your foot! I broke my 5th metatarsal a few years ago and man was it ever painful. Sending you speedy recovery thoughts! I've found that I haven't really reset my eating habits and cravings, and trying to be moderate hasn't been working well for me; too many desires for potato chips and sweet baked things. Therefore, I went back to a strict W30 over the weekend and may have to extend it this time until I really get my brain and body re-wired.... 30 days wasn't enough, even with a slowish reintro and only bringing back a few things. What seems to be particularly important right now are: 1) making sure I eat a Template-style breakfast, and 2) locking down on the no snacking rule.

Hi Beeskie, another welcome here! Glad you wanted to post! Gina - YAY! This is all such great news and I'm glad to hear it all. I'm continuing slow roll. Still aiming for template eating. I tentatively tried wheat a couple of days ago because I just needed to *know*; a few hours later I felt crazy (like slightly maniacal), like I was trying to wade through a vat of goo, and huge numbers of joint aches that I'd thankfully forgotten came roaring back. With a vengeance. That's what surprised me the most, those aches, pains, and stiffness due to grains!! But what a good thing to know - and all of those things were exactly what I'd experienced before W30 and suspected of grains in general but especially wheat/gluten grains. Occasional use of organic frozen kernel corn (no added sugar - can you believe they add sugar to CORN?? small serving once a day, a couple of times now) so far seems to be OK. Went to dinner at a mex. restaurant earlier this week, had about 5 chips + a gorgeous salad with no dairy, didn't eat the deep fried shell. Progress on number of chips consumed and shell not touched: a first for me. And I was *glad* afterward. Felt full & happy, not deprived, and didn't feel like junk for the rest of the night. Hooray! This whole process is fascinating. Keep posting, ladies, I'm learning tons from y'all!! -Espie

    Dirty Thirty "Roundup and Ride"!

Doesn't it make a difference? I have a new-ish girlfriend who is quite healthy. She isn't on the W30 train, but she eats well and exercises consistently, and has been a real inspiration to me. I haven't had many people in my life who *work* on their health in a positive way, looking at it as fun and a personal investment. My friend does, and she's been invaluable in that area (and many [email protected]!)

This all sounds good! After all, it boils down to listening to your body, which you are obviously doing! Let us know how it goes!

Owning my "like" - not that I like what you're going through - at all - but that I love your honesty. I'm with you, I'm more than a little tired of pure compliant prep. The eating was good, but I'm tired of all the cooking and prep and having to be SO careful. Sounds like you had a pretty off-road weekend, and I hope a couple of days of back to compliant will help you feel better. I can tell that, after just a few days, I am not ready to "ride my own bike" yet. I'm still eating 99% compliant foods, but snacking and not eating template simply because the W30 isn't the boss of me any longer. Result? Sugar & crunch cravings all over the place, and I fell face-first into a bag of potato chips, which resulted in allergy-like symptoms and turning into a short-tempered witch for half a day. *Sigh* So, I'm back on W30 starting today. I obviously have a few more things to work out before my mind and body have locked into a healthier way of wanting to be. hugs to you, Gina. And cheers to everyone for sticking with it and working on their reintros - whatever the results and next steps. xo Espie

    Dirty Thirty "Roundup and Ride"!

Holy cow my Riders - it was a wild weekend here at the ranch. April, I'm sorry I wasn't around and more timely in my response: I think you are incredibly brave and strong. I am sorry for your sadness and loss, but so supportive of your decision and your proactive step to take healthy charge of your life. Like the others, I am here for the long haul, whether here or elsewhere on the Forum. We are with you to support and cheer you as you need. MeGA, you are awesome. You are a great cheerleader. Meadow, rock it. You are the Lighthouse shining the W30 light. Keep UR Trailmix, we're riding CLEAN! jmcbn, dave, cottage, DC, Kelli, spinspin, and all the rest: WOOT, you all are the best. So, I did a couple of reintros. Tried some beans. Tried some kernel corn. Both went well, and my body likes them better than white potatoes. I really needed another starch besides sweet potatoes & carrots, so I'm happy with that. Also tried a very little alcohol, because I'd been wanting an icy cold Bloody Mary for weeks. That and a swallow of red wine. Guess what? Alcohol tastes AWFUL to me now. I mean bad in a bad way. I've never been a big drinker, but this definitely opened my eyes. Another surprise - after about a week with no coffee at all (and coming off a crazy coffee habit, coffee was the nectar of life), I don't like it either. Whole 30 is changing my whole body, from my tastebuds to my toenails . I have noticed that I'm having hard-to-control cravings and tendencies to slip into no-brakes territory, so I think I'm going to join MeGA in another round starting today. Hugs all around, Espie

Interesting about milk for you - I don't think we're going to know *what's* going to taste good or bad! Same here on reintro thoughts - a little whole-kernel corn & some hummus for me so far. Some honey when included in ketchup or bacon, so I don't have to go too crazy about compliant items. Other than that, staying the same.

Well, after waiting for about 3 weeks for a Bloody Mary, I made my signature mix on Friday and settled in for a nice patio sunset. Except-- It tasted awful. The virgin mix was fine, but the vodka... same bottle used as the drinks I used to love... couldn't stand it. Tried a few sips of red wine too. Same thing - actively disgusting. Tastebuds totally reset on alcohol, I guess. I was a little sad; I'm glad my body has cleaned up, but honestly, it's just nice to sit on the deck in the summer and have a cocktail. So, I'll be looking for new, virgin ways to make them for a while now. Didn't really drink much at all, it tasted too bad. But that aside, no other side effects noticed as a result.

So sorry to hear all of that, Gina. It's sucky. Were the BBQ sauce ingredients limited enough to help you figure out what might be the problem?

Hello all! I love the stories. Yesterday at lunch I had about 2-3T hummus with my raw veggies. Felt fine, but last night and this morning: gassy! Heh. Other than that, no apparent issues. Thinking about trying organic kernel corn tomorrow....
