    Day 2 of Whole30

Hi everyone, I'm on Day 2 of the program. I did a whole30 a little over a year ago and decided to revisit it to get my body back on track. Looking for anyone who is on the same schedule to support during the holidays!

    Whole30 & Trying To Conceive

Hi everyone, I wanted to jump in here as it sounds like a few people are in the same boat. My husband and I have been trying to conceive for six months now without success. Through tracking, I noticed that I had a short luteal phase and blood tests recently revealed that while I am ovulating regularly, I have low progesterone levels. I am planning on starting a whole30 ASAP to see if I can help balance my hormones. I am very nervous about the whole thing because I currently have an extremely regular cycle and I am worried that the whole30 will render the next 30 days useless as it will likely alter my cycle. I have done a whole30 previously and I bled/spotted for much of it. I will be tracking my cycle with the OPKs so we will see how this goes. Best of luck to everyone!

    5/2/16 Whole30 Group

Hi there, I'm going to echo SugarCube regarding fat. During my first round I was really skeptical about only eating three meals a day too and between meals I was STARVING. When I was making my meals I was under the impression that the oil I was sauteing my veggies or ingredients in counted as the "fat" portion for my meal. Not a chance. This is counter-intuitive to everything we've learned in the modern world but FAT = FRIEND. I have learned that loading up on fat in my meals has made all of the difference in helping me stay satiated between meals for several hours. Below are a few samples of M1s that are an easy go to for me to give you an idea of how much fat I include: 1) Coffee blended with 1 T of coconut oil, half of an avocado, 2-3 eggs fried in a drizzle of olive oil, 1 cup of shredded yams or white potatoes 2) Coffee blended with 1 T of coconut oil, 1 apple, pulled pork (or any meat I have on hand), green beans, and half of an avocado/handful of almonds/cashews I try not to rely too heavily on nuts as a fat source because it doesn't always do the trick for me. I've done a tablespoon or two of whole30 mayo too if I don't have an avocado on hand. The abovementioned meals usually keep me satisfied for 4-5 hours, which for me is a HUGE deal. I hope that helps!

    5/2/16 Whole30 Group

Hi everyone! My name is Kelly and I am from upstate NY. I am on Day 2 of my second whole30. My first was about a year ago and I have gone completely off the rails so it's time for me to get back on track. I'm looking forward to partnering with everyone on this!

What A Serving of Eggs Looks Like

I definitely need to up my egg count. Today is day 1 of round 2 (round 1 was a year ago...maybe this is round 1 now because it's a different calendar year?) and I had a cup of shredded potatoes with two eggs and 1/4 avocado. I AM STARVING! Tomorrow I will have to eat much more as breakfast was only three hours ago!

@cknits - I FINALLY made the chicken wing recipe you shared and it was absolutely delicious! I made it with drumsticks because I was not impressed with Wegmans' chicken wings and I am so excited for my leftovers for lunch today. I made it through yesterday 100% compliant and I will keep going until the weekend. My bridal shower is this weekend and I have a feeling that I'll have either a drink or taste of something. I'm not going to beat myself up too much about it. I'm going to continue holding myself to the whole30 until then and I may end up going straight through if there isn't anything that I feel like breaking the streak for. We shall see. My fitness goals for now include running 10 miles per week and getting 3 days of weights in. I plan on signing up for another 5k in September and I'm already signed up for one in October so holding myself to the 10 miles will help me stay on track. Thanks so much to everyone for always reading/listening and for all of the support. It is really helpful to be able to treat this like a confession/brain dump - kmg

Hi everyone, I'm back on the wagon again and I am even doing my second official whole30. Today is Day 1. I didn't fall too far off the path but enough that I want to reign myself in. @cknits - I had an organic red blend the first time. You are definitely right about different wines having a different effect because I had an organic chardonnay and that did not bug me at all. It was delicious! I am definitely getting excited for the bridal shower. A little nervous because it's all officially starting but definitely excited! My goal for this whole30 is to incorporate weights into my workout routines. I've been doing push ups and sit ups sporadically with a lot of cardio but I'm ready to take it to the next level. We'll see how it goes! I hope everyone is staying cool (it got up to 97 here yesterday!) and enjoying the summer! -kmg

I'm with you all! On Day 33 I had a glass of wine. It wasn't even a full glass but I was SO TIRED the next day. I'm back on the whole30 path again but I'm probably going to have something non compliant at my bridal shower next weekend. I'm okay with that as long as I stick to it 95% of the time. That's great that your husband is getting into it, cknits! Has anyone tried any new recipes lately?

Hi everyone! We made it through! I have not weighed or measured yet and I have been eating the same. I think I'm afraid to weigh myself because I don't want the number to ruin the great feelings I have. I am definitely one of those people that could have their day ruined by the number on the scale and I don't feel it's worth it. My pants are looser and I feel healthier. That's enough for now. I am experiencing food boredom, though so I'm going to need to get a little creative in the kitchen. @B - that's great that you haven't had a food dream until now! I'm glad the burger was good! Hope all is well!

Hi everyone, Day 29! I know we're all planning on going beyond the 30 days but knowing that we've been successful for 29 days (almost) is pretty satisfying! I certainly need to get busier in the kitchen. @cknits - you're doing so great with all of the sauces. I need to get on it! I should have some time this weekend so I should be able to make some more mayo and hopefully some of that bbq sauce. I've been feeling okay this week despite the fact that I haven't been able to exercise much. Work has been nuts this week so I've been strapped for time and energy. I need to be get myself back in gear. I hope everyone is looking forward to the weekend! -k

Day 27! Chugging along. @boadicea - I am with you on the weather. It was 95 and SUPER humid last night. I made myself a salad with cold chicken. Although it rained it's still a bit muggy here. I'm not sure what I'll do for dinner tonight. It has been a stressful week so far. I emotionally ate an Rx bar last night which I haven't done at all until now. Makes me realize that my relationship with food is still tenuous. The black and white of the whole30 rules are great because you can either eat it or you can't. There isn't any gray or "in moderation" which are the worst two words in my food history. I was thinking of picking up a book on the subject. Has anyone read anything by Geneen Roth? I hope everyone is doing well! - k

Day 13 and not loving it...

I am on Day 25 and I felt very similar to you around Day 13. I also had a weird rash on my face that appeared around Day 11 and left on Day 15. Because you are breastfeeding, I would definitely recommend upping your meals. I would also increase your water intake because of exercise. It is recommended that you do half your body weight in ounces without exercise. My body did not follow the timeline at all and it was a little freaky for me at first because I was convinced that I was doing it incorrectly. When in doubt, eat more! I have found that upping my fats in meals helped with mood and energy. Hang in there, it will pass!

Happy Day 25! We made it through the weekend and I have to say, it was pretty tough. On July 3rd I ran into a snag because I planned on eating just veggies at the place we went to (I had a chicken breast with olives and avocado before we left so I'd still feel sated) but they were all marinated in something that I was told contained sugar. I was so bummed! I had a packet of compliant almond butter with me so I sadly ate an apple and banana with almond butter instead of the vegetables. That's probably SWYPO, right? Oh well. I did NOT eat the carrot cake and ice cream and almond cookies that were covering the dessert table and taunting me from afar. On the actual 4th I did fine as I ate my entire meal ahead of time. I am still craving that margarita! Speaking of reentry, this is my plan: July 17th will be my true end date (result of shelled pea incident) and I'm running the 5k on July 19th. I have decided to celebrate that evening with a margarita. I plan on staying compliant between now and October 31st (wedding date) with the exception of two days per month in July, August and September. The two days per month are already planned out around events (5k and bridal shower in July, beer festival and bachelorette party in August, sister's birthday and a wedding we're going to in September) during which I will "cheat" moderately with most likely a drink and not being super concerned with ingredients. I am mindful that I don't want to go too off the rails because I'm afraid that it will a) negate everything I've done this past almost-month and set me up for future failure. I am actually pretty nervous about having the margarita on July 19th. I'm not sure how my body will react and I've decided that I'm going to do a modified version. Alcohol is still alcohol but I'm going to do club soda and lime juice vs. the margarita mix. We'll see how things go. I'm pumped to hear that everyone is doing so well and @cknits I am definitely going to make the ranch! Thank you all for always being so supportive!

DAY 21! WE ARE TOO COOL FOR SCHOOL! @cknits - definitely let me know how the ranch turns out! @boadicea - the 5k is in the city I live in but the course goes through our zoo so we can all wave to th animals as we run by! I may be crazy but I swear after upping fats I feel slimmer...it could just be the days passing too. I'll take it! Enjoy the day!
