JenX got a reaction from Jihanna in Someone just tried to sabotage me... 4 times!
I've found that it tends to be people who are insecure with their own food choices that need to sabotage others. They know  they eat too much crap, and either (1) want to change but don't feel they can, or (2) don't want to change but know they should. And getting others to eat the same crap they want to eat justifies their bad choices. Good for you for handling the situation!

JenX got a reaction from Lorna from Canada in cholesterol levels now higher after 1 yr
TC is going to increase eating anyway close to Paleo. What you need to look at is your ratio between HDL ("good" cholesterol) and LDL (so called "bad" cholesterol, although science is starting to morph on this one).  TC increases because your HDL goes up which is fine. So look at the ranges for each type of cholesterol.

btw - much of the fear surrounding saturated fat and dietary cholesterol is being dispelled with new studies out there saying those have no effect on your heart health. Sugar, increased insulin and increased amounts of inflammation in your body (and in your arteries) are the real killer.

As a side note specifically related to depression, one thing I find really helps is to get outside for a gentle walk every morning (20-30 minutes). do not wear sunscreen and do not put on sunglasses - you want your body reacting with the lovely morning rays. The combination of gentle exercise and vit. D exposure really help.

Challenge for the day - co-workers brought donuts. Now honestly, I don't even like donuts or how donuts make me feel if I eat them, but the last few times this has happened (and it's happened a lot so far this year), I've caved and had at least 1/2 of one.  I set my mind to one rule for this 30 days. NO FREE FOOD. Anything anybody is handing out is not going to be good for me right now.
Challenge #2 happens tomorrow with our weekly delivery of snacks in the work pantry. They're faux-healthy things, like chickpea puffs, or popchip-like things made with cassava. Gluten free? sure. actually healthy? hell no! again, same rule applies NO FREE FOOD

After several years of riding my own bike, living mostly Paleo (and Keto off and on) I'm back for another round. In the past year my menopausal symptoms have been raging: depression along with malaise and general lack of interest, various pains & aches so I don't want to exercise, fatigue, hot flashes and extremely poor sleep. My alcohol consumption has been increasing too which I'm sure is related, and my food has been OFF the RAILS with me putting ALL THE THINGS in my mouth. Over Christmas I even started baking bread! Time to clean it all up again and get back to basics.
    Goals:
Improved sleep More consistent energy More stable mood Get back into the exercise habit June 1- I thought starting on a weekend was going to be harder, but it was actually easier since I had all the time in the world to prep and cook.
B- breakfast hash (shredded yam, cabbage, pork sausage) w/ 1 egg and 1/2 a tomato

My other question would be was it sherry or sherry vinegar? Sherry vinegar is fine and I can't imagine putting sherry in a dressing, but sherry vinegar is delicious.

    Hey Everyone
Can't believe it's already Day 5. I've been feeling a little foggy brained and tired over the last couple of days. I find drinking tons of water and walking on lunch has helped me get through the day. I also find this great energy at the end of the day that helps me power through my workouts. Not quite Tiger Blood but every day I'm drawing closer.
For this program, I've been focusing on a minimalist meal plan. I enjoy cooking more when I'm not slaving away in the kitchen all day. I've been doing egg bakes for breakfast, simple salads for lunch, and hearty soups for dinner. I found some great compliant salsas and dressings which saves me tons of time.
I usually have a crazy sugar dragon but I've been conscious of eating too much fruit so try to get through that hump. On my last challenge, I was finally able to kick the sweetened Starbucks drink habit and I now LOVE the taste of black coffee! haha
I hope everyone has a great day! We're almost finished with Week 1! Woohoo!

    Hey @JenX & @pearlgirl2017
I started my 4th round of the Whole30 on June 1st and I'm looking for an accountability group. I've been completing Whole30 resets for about 6 years now and it always sets the tone for healthy eating habits when I veer off course. My fiance doesn't follow resets with me, so it's nice to have the whole30 community for support.
The reason I'm starting my 4th round of the Whole30 challenge is  to lose a couple of LB's before my wedding in September. I decided it was time to be strict with my sugar consumption and increase my workouts. I always have the best sleep and energy on the Whole30 so I'm looking forward to those NSV's.
    Have a great day everyone!

Well, I've been away from the Forum since 2015, but here I am back again for another round. This is either #4 or #5 (I lost count!).  I have learned valuable things each and every time and I hope this Whole30 will be the same experience.  For the past 3'ish years I've done my own thing... eating mostly Paleo, sometimes Keto, doing some AF here and there. The good news is I won't have any trouble with carb flu. I'll actually have to pay close attention to get in some of the starchier veggies and fruits! it's going to be hard to walk back away from the dairy again, but I know it needs to happen. that and the wine. mmmmm, wine!

So, why am I doing this? My problems are related to hormonal changes in large part  (thanks, Menopause!) - in the past year it's caused weight gain, loss of energy plus my sleep quality is truly terrible.  I'm hoping this round of W30 will help me find a bit more balance. I know it even this can't work a miracle when battling mother nature, but I'll take whatever help I can get! LOL!

I bottled my first batch yesterday and am on 2nd Fermentation. 3 with Raspberry, 2 with blueberry/ginger and 2 plain. I have a nice sparkle as of bottling and I'm sure I'll be fizzy in 2 days at the longest. Now I just have to remember to burp the bottles and hope I don't get any explosions!

Here's a pic - please excuse my repurposed GT bottles - I left the labels on and put plain in Original, ginger/blueberry in Gingerberry, and raspberry in any of the red color-labeled bottles. I decided I'm too lazy to remove them for now.

Added a gallon to my mother vessel to keep it going strong. I can't believe how exciting this is!

I still use the old GT's bottles, have for like a year and a half now. I get fizz most of the time, I've never had a bottle explode (I've had some leak, but never all out explosion with breaking glass, and never the kind of pressure on opening where I ended up with booch on the ceiling either), and if I can't get a lid to loosen, I stick it in the fridge for a while and I can usually get it off then with minimal loss of booch. I keep thinking someday I'll get the swing top bottles, but I'm cheap, and these work, so I'm not too concerned.

I will say, because I've had some bottles leak, I do set them down in a plastic cooler now until I move them to the fridge, just to contain the mess in an easy-to-clean area. I sometimes forget to burp them and I fill them a little fuller than I should and I leave them out at room temp for 2f for a lot longer than the usual 2-3 days, all of which probably contribute to the leaking, so you probably won't have any problems, but if you have a plastic box or cooler around, it's not a bad idea.

Make sure you let it go at least 7 days, Jen, otherwise the full fermentation process hasn't taken place.

I thought to post this shot of my breakfast prep this morning.  On the weekend I diced 5 bell peppers, 3# green beans, a bunch of steamed potatoes and some ham (note, the ham is not compliant but I am not on Whole30).  Now in the morning I just throw a handful of each into a frying pan with some fat, go blowdry my hair and pour a coffee and breakfast cooks itself.  Wash out one frying pan when the food has been plated and you're done!

Note: the ham is non compliant but you could do the same with cooked chicken, cooked ground pork/beef, chopped roast, chopped pork chops etc.  Repeat, the ham is not compliant.

You're right, I do... I could make excuses about having three kids under 4 and a husband that all need to be out the door by 7am every morning so it's a miracle I remember pants some days, but I don't serve anyone any favors that way. Making notes on all the recipes I've found and planning to do some more batch cooking this weekend.
