FODMAPS- when will I feel better?

Thank you for the suggestion! I am a little afraid of probiotics only because I WAS taking them regularly and having constant diarrhea until I stopped them. There are so many option that have so many different strains I don't know how to know which ones I actually need.

FODMAPS- when will I feel better?

When I reintroduce the FODMAPS I will use that app for sure! I downloaded the free version, it is a little lacking, I will need to try the $3 app instead, thanks!

FODMAPS- when will I feel better?

LucieB I have not kept a food log on here. I will have to look into that as an easy way to keep track. While I was doing my initial whole30 I wasn't experiencing these issues, just over the last month while still being super clean. Bet that is exactly why I was hoping for some shared experiences. This way I know if I am not feeling relief in a week or two I may need to contact a GI specialist even though I have never had GI issues ever in my life until now, which is why I am hoping it is the FODMAPS. Thanks for sharing your experience Noelle! I am hoping that eliminating things will help so I don't have to take supplements. I hope!
  4. I did my whole30 (Whole47) in May. Since then I have transitioned into super clean Paleo. I basically follow the whole30 but don't sweat the sugar my bacon was cured in. Over the last month though I have noticed bloating, gas, stomach distension and diarrhea that has continued to get worse over time. I THINK it is from the FODMAPS. I have been indulging in fresh stone fruits at the farmer's market since late June amongst other fresh veggies and fruits. So I am cutting out all the mean fruits and veggies listed on the FODMAPS charts I have seen on paleo and IBS websites. My question is for those who have been there, when can I expect to feel better? I realize it can take 5-6 weeks for my gut to heal, at least, but what have your experiences been removing these from your diet? It is starting to disrupt my life (the diarrhea just hits me without warning) so I am looking for a little reassurance. Thanks for your input!!!

    Spring into May Whole 30!

That is completely weird that it makes that big of a change dependent on age! I had read that the scales are pretty inaccurate, but if you are using the same scale to measure changes, the changes would be accurate. Didn't know they could be that grossly inaccurate!

Thank you for the heads up on the casseroles! I really despise making food that doesn't taste good. So much wasted money and effort.

    Spring into May Whole 30!

So, can all of us that are still going and reintroducing just stay on this thread? Seems so much easier haha. I don't want to break up!!! I finished my first whole30! Though I am going to continue, because I want to support my husband who started on my day 12, and have had some sugar dragon issues. So I am looking at another 15 days at least. BUT I decided to weigh myself today. I have a scale that does body fat %, and while I know the scale itself is likely inaccurate, I read that the comparison from one measurement to another on the same scale should be accurate. Here are my results: Weight: down 8.4lbs Body Fat %: down 4% currently 24%! BMI: down 1.4 to 21.9 Non scale victories: No more 3pm slump! This is so great considering my life really picks up after 3 pm juggling kids activities and getting dinner on the table Depression: One of my big hopes was that the whole30 (that is supposed to be great at reducing chronic inflammatory related stuff) would help with my depression. I went off anti depressants 7 mos ago, I was on them for post partum depression, but I could still feel it, and could see it's effects on me. I already feel like the weight of depression is being lifted from my shoulders, it is lovely. I have been saving a gift card to a clothing store that I got for Christmas. I will finally get to use it for some summer clothes before we go camping in two weeks. I refused to use it before because I wouldn't accept my body in the state it was in (filled with sugar and sadness). I was talking to my hubs today and a local gym had an advertisement- $29/mo with no contract and TONS of fitness classes that would work with my schedule (and free daycare if I sleep in and have to take the kids!). I just really want to do some pilates, yoga, and a small amount of strength training to tone and tighten my slimmed down, more energetic body. I want to be strong again! I enjoy the camaraderie of group fitness classes, no way I would just show up and use the machines, but usually gyms are too expensive, don't have a schedule that works for me, or cost a fortune for child care.

    Spring into May Whole 30!

So turns out my body wants to be all PMS symptoms when I ovulate now a days. That is charming. I was bloated and headachey and retaining water and like- what the heck? Then it dawned on me that I was likely ovulating. Sure enough, two days later I wake up (this morning) and the bloat and water retention is gone, thank goodness. It was making me miserable, made me want to eat my feelings because I was miserable. I completely relate to you all about the cooking and food preparation. I stay home with my 5 kiddos, and am usually super organized and have meals on the calendar a week or two out, everything runs smooth and within budget. Lately I find myself not getting dinner on the table until almost 7pm some nights instead of my usual between 5-6, that is pretty late for kids to eat! Anyhow, my point is I signed up for the 14 day trial of emeals, the Paleo for Families version. I hope it keeps me eating well with my family and now dreading my dinner planning and shopping list anymore like I have this month. Relieve me of trying to find creative meals, I am hoping it is worth it. CAMPING!? We are going camping while on an extended whole30! Camping as a family for 5 days, plus 3 days of travel. I am completely procrastinating meal prep for this. I went to a baby shower last night, even though I heard the words chocolate fondue and cheese fondue I never even looked at them. My eyes are drawn to the brightly colored fruits and veggies and ignore the breads and cakes and mac n cheese bake. Felt good to not even be tempted by the other stuff. Here is today: Meal1: 3 egg scramble with onion, broccoli, roasted red pepper. Blueberries. Black coffee Meal2: left over pulled pork carnitas with homemade guac and green cabbage slaw Meal3: chicken stir fry with curry sauce I have tried quite a few meals from the whole30 book and been pleasantly surprised by how delicious they are! Makes the work worth it, sort of We are all staying together when this is over, right? Through the extensions and reintroductions?

    Spring into May Whole 30!

I am super sad that the recipe was a bust! I let the flavors meld overnight and the next day the texture was just wrong, the flavor was way over lemony. It was a recipe from food.com that I found that had amazing reviews and I obviously screwed up because I usually like baba ganoush and thought it would be nice since hummus was out. I am afraid to waste another egg plant trying again.

    Spring into May Whole 30!

I'm glad to see, though sad to see? that I am not the only one who's sugar dragon is still attacking sometimes. I am definitely needing the longer whole30 that I will be doing. My baby still isn't sleeping great, but better, and so am I, and I can feel it. Yesterday I felt like my whole body was zinging, begging me to go run or do something super active. I had to disappoint it by just doing chores. Told myself though that I would jump on the treadmill when the baby was down for a nap today to let that energy loose. I did, and I jogged, which felt AMAZING. I don't jog, or run. I am a power walker when I am active, which is like never lately. So two minutes in my lungs were SCREAMING at in me in pain haha, oops, so I slowed to a power walk and did intervals. Hubs said we will go walking together each night when the littlest kids are in bed (our oldest can guard the house while we stroll the neighborhood) so that we can improve our heart and lung capacity. I am only 32 for Pete's sake haha. I have been cooking one meal for my entire family the last 3 nights, tonight is #4. Here is what happened: Saturday: garlic shrimp over zucc noodles topped with romesco sauce. One of my kiddos eyes bugged out in panic with shrimp in his mouth that my hubs would not allow him to spit out haha. Sunday: chicken cacciatore. Made 2 pans for the 7 of us, not a scrap of chicken left. Kids loved munching the chicken legs like they were Vikings. Monday: Classic chili. Most ate it, some kiddos had 2nds and 3rds. One wouldn't touch it. Tonight is chicken chowder. The meals aren't that much different then what I usually prepare for them, just all the processed carb fillers missing and more veggies. M1 egg scramble with mushrooms, roasted red peppers, onion. bosc pear M2 left over classic chili, celery with almond butter, orange slices M3 chicken chowder I am so tired of cooking though, I really need to chop all the veggies ahead of time for a few meals to make the process less consuming.

    Spring into May Whole 30!

Awe, thank you so much! It is most definitely zaney around here. Never a quiet moment. My twins start kindergarten in the fall and I will have 3 in school and 2 at home during the day, it will be so weird for me with only two home! They drive me up a wall but it is so worth it, greatest bunch of crazy tiny humans. I am feeling a little brighter today. Went shopping last night and today (specialty store was closed last night) and have meal planning done this week that makes all dinners whole30 compliant for the entire family so I am not cooking two meals. I'm not having my kids do whole30, but my hubs and I are, and at least dinner the kids will be by default. I am really hoping this means left overs for lunches so I don't have to cook lunch. Today I had a simple lunch that was great. Yesterday I made my own guac and baba ganoush. The guac was great, the baba was a little lemony. Today I made my own mayo and ranch, both were great! M1 left over spinach frittata (onion, tomato, spinach), banana M2 3 boiled eggs, yellow mustard and homemade mayo as egg dip. Raw broccoli and carrots with homemade whole30 ranch, 6 cherries M3 Applegate compliant beef hot dogs (2) cooked in sautéed onions and jalapeno, topped with sauerkraut. Roasted asparagus, baked sweet potato with ghee- first time I have had ghee! I expected it to taste like butter so was a bit surprised, but good! I bought some compliant lara bars today to sample since we are going camping soon and figured it would help supplement as needed. Split one with hubs to try it, the cashew date one. 1) I wish they didn't label them pies and cookies and cakes, 2) whoa. Good stuff, but definitely triggered my bingey sugar dragon. Must stay away from those and only use in emergency. Looks like I will be doing at least a whole45 if not a whole60 because I am still struggling with sugar cravings and with camping wouldn't be able to do a proper reintroduction.

    Spring into May Whole 30!

Day 21 I am feeling a wee bit better today. Though baby is still sick (and now only one other child) I held him in my arms and slept that way all night. My body is stiff from it, but better than getting up and down and up and down all night. M1 Frittata (sautéed onion, fresh spinach, tomatoes) and naval orange slices. black coffee (over ice is how I take it nowadays) M2 left over chicken with homemade taco seasoning, avocado, tomato, romaine, half a bosc pear M3 chicken with roasted sweet potatoes, parsnips and broccoli Wish I wasn't having chicken twice today but I don't want to waste left overs. Trying parsnips for the first time today! I bought a ton of whole fat coconut milk yesterday, as well as some tahini and eggplant. Planning to make some Whole30 ranch as well as some baba ganoush to make raw veggies more exciting at lunch time so I am not constantly cooking them.

    Spring into May Whole 30!

I just bought a pair last night and am going to roast them today! Pretty excited. Next I may try a rutabaga (I know I spelled that wrong..) one new veggie at a time though. I don't have any ghee though. There is a health food store across town that sells it. I need to go there when I do my big shopping trip this evening.

    Spring into May Whole 30!

I am having the same disinterest in food lately, even though I am trying new recipes to try to avoid food fatigue. I'm just not hungry and nothing sounds amazing. Losing bloat has been one of my favorite parts of my whole30 so far, that and no longer having a 3 o'clock slump. Thinking I need to add ghee and parsnips to my menu. I have never had a parsnip before.

    Spring into May Whole 30!

Oh my goodness that is the pits! Good thing it wasn't more complicated to fix, but how stressful!
