Yay, high five! Yep I'm still good! Old habits die hard, I almost ate the pan scrapings of the fried rice I made for my son last night before remembering that's a no go! The next week or so is going to be challenging, I have a few nights out I'm going to have to navigate carefully, which is no problem, but I don't like being the "boring" one that always says no to alcohol and dessert Anway, maybe I'll just get water and claim it's vodka.

Hope everyone survived the weekend ok and you aren't having any "kill all the things" moments!

Hi Sam, of course it's not too late, the more the merrier! I agree, some of us seem to need a bit longer than 30 days, and teaming up is great motivation to stick it out for longer. So welcome!

And Francsois, so jealous of your hiking trip to Tassie, sounds amazing! I actually think it's easier to stick to healthy eating when you're being active, hiking's no fun when you feel like a sloth! But yeah, portable and travel-friendly food can be tricky, but I'm sure you'll be fine.

Coles sells Heston Blumenthal stuff? Whaaaa??? Does it look like a christmas pudding but taste like duck a l'orange or something? Lol! Will have to check it out... maybe next Chrissy

you can still have a fun Christmas - you can probably have a more memorable, fun Christmas as you wont be wasting hours with a fuzzy alcohol induced head, or asleep on Christmas afternoon in a food coma. or be in a sugar daze....
staying compliant with food wouldn't be overly difficult, although the Heston Blumenthal Christmas puddings I bought from coles the other day would definitely not be compliant it's ok, i'll eat your piece!

I think you should use the same rules for your husband that you would use for your kids (since he's maybe behaving like a child... ).  So, if paleofied foods help him get through it, I say go for it. If more snacks, more fruit, etc, gets him through, go for it.  Hopefully, by the end, he'll feel great enough that he'll agree to continue on his own.

Try to appeal to his competitive side and see if getting to the end period is enough of a reason not to quit.

Ask him what he wants and try to make it.  My husband prefers zoodles to pasta, so pasta dishes are aways a good option for us.  If he wants pizza, make a paleofied pizza crust.  If he wants Thai, find a W30 approved recipe.

It may be that he doesn't actually want anything specific, though, and just wants to not feel restricted.  That's when you hope that he's competitive enough to want to finish anyway.  It's only 13 more days, right?  Good luck!

Haha well you're looking pretty healthy already Francsois! I took a before shot too but it's so depressing I'm going to just keep that one to myself for the moment....

I want to lose this 8kg or so I've put on this year, get my cravings under control, get my blood sugars well controlled again (I'm T1 diabetic) and shake off this sluggishness that I have when I eat badly.

I'm single mum to a 9 year old boy, I live in Sydney, and am just finishing up my PhD in pharmacology/looking for a job. The stress of thesis writing has made me spend my nights stuffing toast into my face as a form of procrastination...NO MORE!!

    Hi Ladies!

I've come across some potentially helpful information for hair loss...but first some context.

Three years ago (when I was 25 years old) I discovered a bald spot the size of an oreo cookie (i know, bad point of reference) hidden underneath my otherwise full head of hair. I had lost thousands and thousands and thousands of strands in probably about 2 weeks without even noticing. This was the first time I had ever heard about alopecia and I was scared. I chose not to use prescribed steroids and looked for natural fixes. It took me a whole year to make the connection to gluten (meanwhile my hair was slowly growing back). So a year later I went gluten free. My hair was still falling out a lot in the shower. Every time I washed it I would be near tears at the hundreds of strands because of the potential of what could happen again (sometimes I literally counted ~300 strands). My dermatologist assured me it was a normal amount of hair (you see, it looked like I had a lot of hair but he didn't understand that I was working from a different reference point than him...it was definitely less).

Anyway, about a year and a half later after I had first decided to go gluten free, something magical happened. My hair stopped falling out. It just stopped. I'm talking like 5-10 strands when I washed my hair! I was ecstatic and relieved to say the least.

Fast forward to now, today is day 22 of my first whole30. Last week, I noticed quite a bit more hair falling out when I washed it (~100 strands). I got very worried again and it brought all the old feelings back. But, I came onto this forum and decided the solution was to have more starchy carbs (sweet potato, cassava, butternut squash)- I was having zero. I added some to my dinners for a few days and I am happy to report that today I washed my hair and it is back to normal (5-10 strands).

I wanted to share my experience in case anyone is going through something similar. I know how devastating hair loss can be from first hand experience and it took me a long time to learn the right diet for me (and I am obviously still learning! This is my first experience with whole30 and even paleo for other issues of mine but I will save those for another day ).

    Ciao for now.

I definitely would like to go longer than 30 days! I'm just a bit worried about Christmas etc, it's a lot of social events to get through without a glass of bubbly Haha but why not, I'm up for the challenge! If I can get through Christmas then I'll know I'm really on the way to breaking my bad habits. Ok! Lets do it... Whole100 starting tomorrow? Sooo end date is.... Um 27th Jan? It would be nice to not spend most of January feeling fat and gross actually!

    Hi Zoodles

I just completed a whole 30, felt like a million bucks. But my bad habits are deeply entrenched, and it is clear that I need longer to kick them. When do you want to start? I thought of going for longer than whole30. What do you think?

    Cheers from Hay, NSW

Which non-whole30 foods are you talking about exactly that give you more energy? It seems like you react badly to most non-compliant foods for one reason or another except rice. So that makes me think you need more carbs? Could you try really starchy soups like sweet potato soup, or maybe in a pinch add some organic white rice. I agree with the others, you're meals and snacks look pretty small, especially if you're breastfeeding. I wasn't eating this way when my son was a baby, but I remember I could eat whatever I wanted and I was still losing weight. You need a LOT of extra food when breastfeeding, so you might just need to drink a can of coconut cream or something every morning
