    CALLING ALL JANUARY 1ST WHOLE30ERS!

Hello Day 17! I'm fighting off a cold so my energy has been zapped, which makes me feel robbed! On the bright side, my symptoms have been very mild...just lingering for a few days. I am guessing the clean diet has prevented it from being worse. I simmered a nice pot of chicken bone broth overnight and had some this morning, so hoping that will help. I'd kill for a hot toddy or at least a little honey in my hot water or tea! But I'm coping. Getting to the boredom stage with cooking. Chicken is this week's theme. I roasted an organic bird with Meyer lemons & fresh herbs along with some root veggies on Sunday (hence the bone broth). I also made a batch of mayo with avocado oil which I used for chicken salad, and I've been picking at the leftover chicken & veggies. So I'm just about chickened out. Craving some nice, healing comfort food, any good suggestions? Hope everyone is hanging in there, congrats to those who are about to hit the 20 day mark! You've got this!!!

Want to quit at end of Day 9

Hang in there! On days when I feel crappy I just remind myself how I also feel crappy when I am eating the wrong foods. The difference is that this unpleasantness WILL PASS! Just give it a chance!

    CALLING ALL JANUARY 1ST WHOLE30ERS!

Hello! I'm a little late to the party (and still catching up on this thread) but I started on 1/3. This is my 2nd round, completed my first in November and had good results! Like others here I relaxed over the holidays and gained back 5 of the 8 lbs I had lost, plus started feeling u healthy again. I'm mid-40s and dealing with a sluggish metabolism. W30 was the first program that has worked for me in a long time, and it definitely changed my mindset! I CAN get healthier and even lose a little weight at this age! I was seriously beginnining to think it was impossible. My goals this time are to add more exercise (I did very little last time around!) and have more green tea vs. coffee. I know coffee is okay but I tend to feel better when I cut back, and I'm a big believer in the benefits of green tea. My mom is also doing her first W30 and I can't wait to see her experience the magic! Good luck to everyone and stay W30 STRONG! ☺

#Whole30Survivors!!! Wanted to share my "official" results: Down 8 lbs (and a few inches but I failed to take measurements at the start ) Much better sleep Steady energy levels Stable mood (PMS was a breeze!) Clearing skin My re-intro with red wine was rough. Despite the warnings to NOT overdo it, I had little too much and paid dearly for it all day yesterday! Which led to a not-so-great food choice. I ordered take-out from a neighborhood Thai restaurant- Basil Fried Rice with Chicken. I justified it by counting it as a re-intro of grains, but upon the first bite realized it was also full of sugar and soy sauce. I felt weird today...headache, blurry vision and shaky hands. Hard to say whether those are effects from the grains or continued effects of the wine. Most likely the latter or a combination. Let's just say Pinot Noir i is getting another time-out for a while. SL429- I hope your reunion with wine was happier than mine! Today I have a huge pot of beef stew on the stove. Planning to stay W30 until Thanksgiving Day when I will try dairy, I feel like I really need to detox until then! CJ

Berniesmom & sl429 (and anyone else still with us) HAPPY DAY 30!!! can't wait to hear about your results! I'm coming in strong right behind you, today is my day 29. It hit me yesterday...I can't believe I've lasted 4 WEEKS without bread, cheese, chocolate, sugar, chewing gum, and alcohol! Four weeks without take-out or drive-throughs! WHO AM I? Today is my last day in the office until after Thanksgiving. Tomorrow I'm treating myself to a celebratory massage and a couple glasses of wine with my girlfriends. I know we're technically supposed to wait until Day 31, but I gave up alcohol a day before I started W30 so today is officially Day 30 of no alcohol for me. Which is a major feat in itself. How are y'all celebrating and what's the first thing on your re-intro list? Or are you going to double-down with a Whole60? CJ

Happy weekend! How's everyone doing? Who's still with us? I'm hanging in there but I gotta say I'll be so happy when this is over! I can't believe I'm sitting here thinking "Paleo sounds so easy compared to this!" I'm feeling so good that I plan to try and stick to a Paleo diet, with a little flexibility added for the occasional indulgence. If I feel myself going too far it's nice to know I'll have W30 to come back to! I truly believe I am learning new habits. I miss the convenience of Fast Food but not the way it makes me feel. I'm not sure I've lost a lot of weight but the subtle changes I'm feeling tell me that I'm going in the right direction. Confession: I had SWYPO last night- "ice cream" made with nothing but frozen bananas and garnished with banana chips. I only had a small serving, and I honestly don't feel guilty about it because there were also Sprinkles cupcakes and other yummy treats in front of me! And it was really, really good. I love bananas though. This morning I made pork sausage patties from the recipe in the book. They were very good! Only problem is my entire house reeks of sausage now, lol. But not like it would with processed, store-bought sausage! Actually, my house frequently smells now since I'm doing so much more cooking. #Whole30Problems We're almost there folks! Hope you all have a great weekend.

Holy cow is it really DAY 20?! Two-thirds of the way in and a full three weeks as of tomorrow! I can hardly believe it but like others have said, it is so much easier at this point and I just want to keep going! I've been sleeping very soundly this week and I've awakened with no alarm at 5am for two days in a row, which is truly amazing for me! I am soooooo not a morning person. I downloaded a sleep tracking app and plan to start using it tonight because I'm really curious to see what it tells me. I tried the Cracklin' Chicken recipe I posted above and OMG it was so good! I'm very skeptical of how it can be healthy because it tastes THAT GOOD. But it's "on plan" so I'm going with it! Move over, Popeyes and KFC. You know what else I just realized? This weekend will be the last weekend we have to be fully W30 compliant! We've got this!!! How is everyone else doing this week?

Great job SL429! It's truly amazing how people react when you decline alcohol. Most of my close friends have been very supportive but I still get the occasional "wow I can't believe your willpower!" It's not really that hard people! Yes, I miss it a little and wine is the first thing I plan to reintro, but I've really been rethinking my relationship with alcohol and plan to practice a lot more moderation in the future because I just feel too good without it! Chili sounds good, I am going to do that soon. I am going to try NomNom Paleo's Cracklin' Chicken tonight. Fried chicken is a favorite comfort of mine and this looks like it might be a good substitute! http://nomnompaleo.com/post/74180911762/cracklin-chicken Today is Day 18 for me. I cannot believe I've made it this far and I am so excited to see what the next two weeks bring! Staying off the scale has been a challenge for me but I can definitely feel my clothes getting a little looser and I am really starting to feel great. I think there might be something to this!

YES!!! Hip-hip-hooray for making it a full 2 weeks! It's all downhill from here, right? BerniesMom- I feel the same. Feeling better than I did the first week but no amazing energy yet. I'm finding I may not always be eating enough because I am also bored with the food. Yes, time for some new recipes! I have a road trip carpool and team meeting at a Beer Garden in Austin tomorrow. It's going to be a super-long day. I've studied the menu in advance and there does not appear to be much at all I can have, so I'm packing some emergency snacks just in case I don't get enough to eat. The social part of this is really challenging. When I chose my start date I had only about 5 events on my calendar and wouldn't you know it that has now doubled! Happy Hours, birthdays, surprise visits from two different out-of-town friends...it's like I am really being tested! I will just look at these as "opportunities" to try my new skills and practice some self-control. I've come too far to slip up now! Hope you're all having a great week and feeling strong. CJ

Woo hoo, good job! I also survived! I went to a party and brought deviled eggs I'd made with my first batch of Whole30 mayo, decorated with black olive "spiders". Everyone else had pizza but they also loved the eggs! After we ate, we went out to a club (bottle service and all!) and for the first time in my life I did not have a drop of alcohol in that setting! It was so weird, but I kept my glass full of club soda with lime all night and pretended it was a weak drink and I was fine! My friends kept asking me how I was doing, it's funny how concerned they were. Most were super-supportive and proud of me, but there was one who kept trying to talk me into a shot. "C'mon you should break your cleanse and have a shot!"...she actually said that to me, more than once! But I held strong and told her "next time!" I had a really great time and as I expected it was SO FUN watching everyone. I hung in there until about 1:00 am. The hardest part was driving home and not stopping for late night munchies! Such a bad habit and I now see how psychological it is. The best part was waking up with NO HANGOVER! Victory! Haha.

Hello Day 10! One-third of the way in! Starting to feel much better and actually made it through a hot yoga class yesterday. I felt way stronger than I though i would! Had a couple of breathless moments but it has been over two weeks since my last class so it could be just because of that. A bit sore today so going to give my body a rest. Things I've noticed: I can feel my ribs! In a good way, they are not visible which would be scary...but I can feel bone where fat used to be! My body lets me know when it's time for bed. When I yawn it's like a very strong, sleepy yawn and if I get to bed right when that starts happening I get a really nice, deep sleep! I'm still having vivid dreams, sometimes about food, sometimes about how I look (no cellulite! ha...if only!) Thanks for the go-to meal tips, BerniesMom! I definitely need to prep in advance a little more. Last night I had a late appt, and did not get home until 8:30 pm. I did not feel like cooking that late so I had a boiled egg, handful of olives and a big handful of cashews before I went to bed. I can't sleep if I am hungry and this did the trick! Not the best dinner but I felt satisfied. They say days 10 and 11 are when most people give up. Let's keep pushing through! If we can get through Halloween we've SO GOT THIS! CJ

    Non-Bitter Coffee

I buy the best coffee I can find (whole bean and grind the night before or even once a week, keep in a canister) Starbucks beans are fine but there are even better brands out there. Try Peet's or a local coffee house. Brew in a French Press for a richer flavor. It takes just long enough to boil water, pour into the press then let it brew for 4-5 minutes while you grab your breakfast! I also just love the ritual of it. And try coconut milk as a creamer or froth it to make a latte. Delicious!!!

Hello there! Hangin' tough over here...today is Day 6 for me and I can't believe I'm about to be a week in! Congrats to everyone else hitting this little milestone! I have been feeling okay, better than I thought I would be for the most part. This is no more physically difficult than other "diets" I've tried, so far anyway. But I've never stuck with anything for 30 days so we'll see how I feel a couple of weeks from now! My main issues thus far have been an occasional low blood-sugar type feeling (I think I need to add more veggies), dry mouth, and this may be TMI but I have to pee a LOT! My hunger patterns have been off as well, over the weekend my eating schedule was all over the board, but now that I'm back at work I am doing better. I feel my stomach getting a teeny bit flatter so that has been nice, but I went to try on Halloween costumes last night and they were tighter than what I had wanted to see, so I immediately got down on myself. Then I had to stop and my remind myself that I was only FIVE DAYS INTO THIS...and I need to be patient! I'm hoping to return to yoga this week. I gave myself a few days off while letting my body adjust to it's new diet and I am eager to see how I feel with exercise. Grocery shopping has been a challenge for me also, reading labels takes so much more time and I get annoyed at how EVERYTHING has sugar in it! Recipes I've tried: spaghetti squash with meat sauce (good but I will never agree that spaghetti squash is a substitute for pasta!), veggie frittata (delicious but I got tired of the leftovers) and my favorite thing so far - coconut milk latte. So delicious! It's almost like the real thing. I am going out on Halloween with a group of friends where I will probably be the only one not drinking. This will be a true test of my patience! I am hoping the extra energy the W30 Timeline mentions will kick in so I am not turning into a pumpkin at midnight. After all...this gives me a chance to be the one to say "do you remember what you did last night?" LOL. In a loving way of course. Let's just say my friends and I like to let loose every now and then and it will be fun to watch. How is everyone else doing? What are your favorite things to eat and what gets you through the day? CJ

there is no way I could ever do this

I wasn't sure either (and I'm still not!) until I read the Whole30 book which really made everything sound so simple! I highly recommend reading it if you haven't. I've not yet read It Starts With Food but that's next on my list. My strategy is to focus on all the yummy things I CAN have vs. being sad about what I can't have. So far that's working for me but it's only Day 3. The book really convinced me to try it though!
